Do they still lose the pick? If so, ouch. They might've been able to keep Parise without Kovy's contract too.

The Bruins decided to pick Jaromir Jagr in the first round this year!

Shanahan is big on suspension length being tied directly to the severity of the injury. That's why Ference only got a game for elbowing Grabovski in the head even though that was much more egregious than Gryba's hit. If Eller's face didn't smack the ice I doubt that would have been a penalty let alone a suspension. An unfortunate event for all parties involved.

Penguins are an embarrassment of offensive riches now. I still don't trust Fleury enough to proclaim them Stanley Cup champions yet, though. Also when you have so many players coming in to the team there's always the issue of chemistry being affected.

As a Bruins fan, it sucks that we didn't get Iginla even though Calgary said we would. Feaster completely botched the trade, promising Boston (who had a much better package than Pittsburgh) that the trade was done without actually having Iginla waive his NTC. Then Iginla's list of 4 suddenly became a list of 1 and Feaster dumped him for basically nothing. Woops.

Matt Cooke claims another victim:

FWIW I don't think it was intentional, but that is a devastating injury.

Guys. GUYS. Why are you even arguing? Your teams are minor league compared to what Jeremy Jacobs is doing. He's giving THREE FREE (non-alcoholic) CONCESSIONS to each fan for every game in January. I'm buying a ticket to every game because there's no way I will ever get three free $10 hot dogs again.

Not that they will, but the NHL and NHLPA should listen to the damn President:

Quote from: Barack Obama
My message to owners and to players is, 'You guys make a lot of money and you make a lot of money on the backs of fans, so do right by your fans. You can figure out how to spread out a bunch of revenue that you're bringing in, but do right by the people who support you.' And I shouldn't have to be involved in a dispute between really wealthy players and even wealthier owners. They should be able to settle this themselves. And remember who it is that's putting all that money in their pockets.

Apparently both sides are actually pretty close but they're both acting like children and refusing to be the side that gives in.

Well we're a lot closer than we were yesterday:

82 games starting on Nov. 2 would be a lot of hockey.

Adele has a voice tailor-made for a Bond song and she/they definitely did a nice job with it. I actually like that they used previous Bond themes (or variations on them) because it makes it sound like a Bond theme song, not something that's completely out of left field.

do you use a tablespoon or teaspoon?

I used teaspoon as a kid and continue to do so.

My father uses a tablespoon.

This made my laugh, because I'm the same way. I use a tablespoon for everything except eating cereal and ice cream, which is a habit I have from childhood that I've never changed.
13  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2012 NHL Off-Season on: September 14, 2012, 10:56:19 PM
It's hard for me to feel too sympathetic to the owners when they complain about player costs that are due to contracts that they hand out themselves. The players bent over to get the last CBA through, it's time for the owners to suck it up for this one.

I doubt it will happen, though. The players want to play much more than the owners do, despite what bobblehead Bettman says.
14  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Olympics 2012 - London on: August 08, 2012, 04:14:54 AM
After seeing the replays that call is even more ridiculous. Goalies routinely take longer than that to get rid of the ball. I know Matt Reis, the goalie for the Revolution, often takes a small eternity to get rid of the ball and he's never been called on it (that I know of). And yes, Tancredi should have been red carded for that stomp as well, though I think the ref just missed that one.
15  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Olympics 2012 - London on: August 06, 2012, 10:51:47 PM
I didn't watch the game but I can't believe they actually called the goalie for delay of game while handling the ball. I don't think I've ever seen that called.

I would feel bad for Canada, but then I think back to the winter Olympics two years ago and I don't feel so bad. The schadenfreude-lover in me is secretly hoping Japan beats the US in penalties again.
16  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Olympics 2012 - London on: August 04, 2012, 06:03:28 PM
You guys should find a UK VPN (like expat shield) and watch the BBC coverage. It's so much better. I'm not sure if the actual camerawork is any different but there's no ads, everything in HD, they actually show the pre- and post-match stuff, it's great.

Pretty good deal for the Rangers. I don't think Erixon is much of a top prospect and the draft pick will be late round. Dubinsky and Anisimov are solid, but 2nd/3rd line guys.

Of course then there's Nash's contract which is why I'm glad Boston didn't get him. That by itself may prove costly for the Rangers, but they'll probably just pawn him off to Montreal or someone else in a few years..

Edit: OK, I guess Erixon is a good prospect, but he's not Del Zotto or McDonagh.
19  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2012 NHL Off-Season on: July 20, 2012, 11:52:50 PM
The small market owners cry BS because of the guaranteed money. Nashville probably can't afford $26 million or whatever it is over 3 years even though they have the cap room. The cap hit is the average of the term, which is why there's 3 years tacked on the end of the contract at $1 mil per.

Parise and Suter both to Minnesota. Good for them. Wild are relevant again.

I'm not sure how good of a team it makes them, but Minnesota definitely needs some big names. It's the biggest hockey hot bed in the US and they've been cursed with boring and mediocre teams for too long.

Also, $7.5m per year for each. I'm not surprised the price is that high and I'm glad my team didn't go anywhere near either of them.

NHL awards are tonight. Really hoping Bergeron wins the Selke. He deserves to win one during his career and I'm not sure he'll have a better all-around season than this past one.

I'm also really hoping Karlsson doesn't win the Norris. I don't think Chara will get it again, so I hope for Weber.

25  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2012 NHL Off-Season on: June 13, 2012, 01:15:31 AM
Bruins re-sign Kelly and Campbell, effectively making next year's roster identical to last year's with the exception of Rask replacing Thomas (and a new backup) and someone replacing Corvo (probably Dougie Hamilton).

Assuming, of course, they don't do something stupid and trade for Rick Nash.

Not to take anything away from the Kings amazing run.. they've played by in large perfect hockey and deserve this cup - no contest.

But beyond the royal rumble that was the first round, this has been the most uninteresting playoffs I can remember in my 30+ years of watching hockey.

Agreed. LA is/was the only team that stepped it up this postseason. Every other team was a different shade of mediocre, more notable for how badly they played than how well.

But you get some duds every now and then and I have no fear that next year's playoffs, assuming there is one, will be much more exciting.

Can't trade him and he counts against the cap. Sweeeet.

I'm hoping this isn't Thomas being a petty child and actually something serious, because it would likely end his NHL career.

It should be a good series though the chances of me getting to watch a whole game are about .01%.

Despite the icky feeling I will be rooting for the Devils. Cheering for anything from California goes well beyond icky.

I make call center software for a living and you would have to pay me a very sizable amount of money to actually work in a call center.

I also once quit a job without having anything lined up. It took a (long) while before I was working again, but it did eventually happen. Good luck out there.

Yeah, he was totally faking it.
33  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2012 NHL Playoffs (Conference Finals) on: May 23, 2012, 10:08:56 PM
I think the Brown hit was a bad hit. It wasn't dirty but there's absolutely no reason he should have initiated a check with his leg out like that. Dumb play that could have injured Brown as easily as it did Rozsival. I don't think it warranted a suspension but it was still dumb and avoidable.

I forgot to mention that Drew Doughty throwing those hissy fits might have been the highlight of the playoffs for me.

I'd be pretty pissed too if he just badly injured one of the players on my team with a wreckless hit.

Congrats to the Kings, they were clearly the much better team. I'm still baffled how Phoenix even got that far.

I'm going for Phoenix for the comedy.

I can't root for a team from LA, or from New York, or the Crapitals, and I'd root for the Devils but then rooting for the same team as Devil feels dirty, so Phoenix it is. Go... Coyotes! It's Coyotes, right?

Triple overtimes and beyond are hilarious to watch, simply because all the players (minus the goalies) are playing in slow motion.
