Thx i'll keep updating my post with correct answers. @lex: in H6 i think it is second part not first @Blackjack: i'm suprised you didn't guess G8 (looking at your avatar ). You can answer in "spoilers" in case someone wants to guess the games himself.

I played it today for several hours! Even though game launch in EU is on friday, i could play today . I just (pre)downloaded my game from EADM and it worked . This game rocks - best FPS ever, not only multi, but single is very fun! I enjoy it a lot. My in-game nick is Kossak, so feel free to add me.

Displays testshell error for me. Cant see anything on the home page store. Games page looks pretty but also means I cant see as many titles and so it takes more clicks to find what I want. Probably not an issue for most people but i have 100 steam games.
i have > 100 games on steam too, and if i change the view from "list" to "details" (top right corner buttons) i have a pretty compact list of my games on the left, so can get to one specific game as quickly as with the old version.

I should see what's new. Username is Teggygah.
Kossak - 613 hours on Heroes of Newerth? Seriously?
yep - this is for me the best game ever- and i'm still not bored with it. And funny: i still learn this game! I have one bug with Raptr - it imported my xfire stats only once (few months ago). Now when i remove my xfire from raptr and add it again, it should get all new statistics from xfire but it doesn't. I asked them about it and they said it should be fixed at the end of the week. I want all my games stats imported if i'm gonna use Raptr instead (or better along with) xfire. I added you all, so see ya in Raptr

I wonder how many people here actually use it? I made myself an account few months ago, just to try it and then went back to xfire. Now i installed it again and i really like its community features on website. I read that they rewrote the whole program lately, maybe it is worth checking again. It is still in beta and lacks some features that xfire has, like in-game UI, screenshots, videos, voip, chat rooms, but i really like its website that is like facebook just for gamers . I hang out for a while on Raptr and see how well it works. Add me, my nick is: Kossak.

HoN has leveling (25 max level). You level up in one game, gain exp/gold/abilities/items but in another game fight starts again from level 1. It doesn't have this MMO aspect - you can't get anything that would be passed to another game. Every game you start from zero point so everyone is equal, no matter how long they played before. Denying - is killing your own creeps. If you kill your own creep: (it can happen only when the creep is below about 40-50% of its health) - enemy gets less exp (he still gets it, just less) - enemy gets no gold Enemy would get the gold if he killed your creep, if nobody kills the creep nobody will receive gold. You receive exp by standing near dying creeps (less exp if the creep is denied). Denying is one of statistics that many people look at to judge how good player you are.

I'll have to admit, I booted up HoN, got settled, and set up a private practice run (are there any bots or was I just running around on my own?). I had no idea what I was doing. I think there were shops somewhere, and I bought a few things, but they didn't go into my inventory... so I guess I was supposed to pick them up somewhere. I ran around a bit, looking for Mobs to kill to see how my beasty looking guy did. Mostly, I was confused. Then I remembered how, had this been an actually match, I would have been called names that make sailors pause.... hmm... I didn't really feel it. I'll try again, and give it another shake, but I was confused. Also, and maybe this is just my confusion - it looked like HoN only had 3 maps... yeah... so many more than LoN. And to be REALLY picky... the font was way too small for my poor eyes, so I couldn't read the text of my powers well.
just as i suspected . But don't worry - read few posts before how i feeled after my first HoN match - I never wanted to see this again, possibly you feel similar. And see now what i think about HoN. If you get deeper into the game you will probably change your mind (just like millions of DotA players, and HoN players now). But don't expect that right after the next match everything will change But of course you don't have to if you don't like it. Demigod is still good game (despite multiplayer having some network problems or bugs), LoL i guess too, for some people at least. (Well i actually moved to LoL too after my first HoN match, but after a week or two when i played more HoN matches, i started to "feel it" ) Now some info: You probably didn't watch those movies/links i posted earlier. If you want to understand basiscs you should watch it. Those items you bought went to your "stash", because you weren't close enough to the shop. You can see the shop whenever you are on the map, but if you buy something then it goes to stash and not your inventory. When you get close to the shop you can get those bought items from there to your inventory. But if you stand near the shop, items that you buy go directly to your inventory. And see the link "how to start practise game" (posted earlier with all HoN links) so you know how to spawn heroes, items, creeps, buildings (whatever) in this mode. As for maps - there is only 3, but HoN - in contrast to LoL - will have map editor, so the community will be able to make maps as many as it wants. Main HoN map is much bigger than Demigod and LoL, and i can guarantee that even after months of play this map will still have secrets you will be discovering slowly .

i'm actually glad you posted this, because that's a beutiful example of trying HoN:D. Remember to give HoN some time, after this - i can guarantee you will change your mind by 180 degrees about HoN - just as me:). Well actually it was the same for almost all my friends, who never played DotA before. On the beginning they didn't want to play it with me till they actually tried it for a bit more time. Now everyone from about 15 people, who were telling me they won't play such bad game - preordered it . If you saw my suprise when one by one were buying it And i new Tals you woudn't be able to defend LoL. I was interested in LoL because i thought i can see some interesting (don't know, maybe some better, amazing features/gameplay), but it turned out to be really complete failure. Well mabye the game is not complete disaster, because for some people it's still good game, and i believe them, but seriously, this full game is not even half of what beta HoN can offer if you get deeper into it . For me it doesn't have be the end of the thread - just the end of trying LoL.

so i tried this LoL today, and.... you probably don't want to hear my opinion, cause i had much better opinion about this game when it was in beta . But i write anyway: The game isn't even 50% of what HoN offers. For me it was disaster it lacks so much features, for example: - really poor abilities tooltips, lack of clearly or at all(!) stated
- use on : self/position/enemy hero/creep whatever - damage type: physic/magic - radius of effect (number) - range (number) - cooldown/damage/radius/range at all levels (not only the current one or next), even before leveling (i mean i should see the damage/range/radius/everything of lvl 4 ability when i haven't leveled it yet at all) - i don't want to check more.... just look at HoN tips how they are accurately described, and clearly presented
- shop - good for noobs, but it's design is bad for more advanced players. And those writings instead of icons?...
- tooltips for items in shop - the same as for abilities. And everything is written in one line? not clearly readable at all. And the prices are put in such places that you wonder if it is for item on up or down of this price.
- can't follow a creep - i right click a creep and my hero doesn't follow it. I guess there's no way to follow creep? or another champion?
- the map is so little small! hence:
- there is so little juke spots! only grass here and there - HoN has so much more juke spots (partially because of much bigger maps), and they are so cleverly put everywhere on the map
- top left avatars doesn't show of your teammates - is there any clear way you can tell if you teammate has this particular ability in cooldown/not leveled/available/which level, how much gold he has? They even don't have tooltips!
- the sound channels are badly organized - you hear only on left/right channel things that are on screen and only a bit aside!
- when you don't see the fight on your main screen (but it's very near the side of the screen) - you don't hear sound of a fight at all even if you are standing really close! Fail.
- you can't "get ready" in lobby and you have to wait this 1.5 - 2 mins every single time - or did i just miss something?
- gameplay is slow! I thought it is fast-paced game...
- no creeps stacking? or did i just miss something?
- no denying....
- MMO aspect (leveling) which makes all competitive play not fair
- no i'm not playing further i'm really discouraged from this game and tbh it's a waste of time....
For me there's no more point comparing both games, LoL is a quite fail in any serious playing. But i guess it lacks so much features, that it's great for new players and casual gamers because it's easy. And it is maybe worth saying again: if i never saw such a variety of features, clean and easy organizations of tooltips, shops UI in HoN i would probably never think of LoL as a failure (that's why in beta i thought it's much better - i didn't know then about so much features). But once you know there is so much features, that could make the game and gameplay awesome, and LoL doesn't use them... well enough. I really wish you a nice LoL play guys, i believe this game is great for you

I don't talk about gameplay because i talk about all those great features than HoN has and apparently LoL doesn't. I wanted to compare these two and see which has more features. Should i quote myself where i talk about different FEATURES (in contrast to gameplay)? I don't think it is necessary, because i would be again repeating myself for umh****teen time But if you want a bit about gameplay, here you have: HoN is simply the best of all new games in moba genre, it's fast paced, involving strategic thinking, big variety of everything in comparison to LoL, it has much more heroes, items, maps, creeps, everything, game modes, mods, game mechanics (like denying, creep stacking, 35 neutral creeps(!), converting creeps and using their abilites and others). Alll this makes outstanding gameplay experience. Because of all this it gives you much more strategic opportunities and gameplay styles. For example strategic thinking in HoN begins in lobby, when you can counter pick your heroes when you see what heroes enemy pick. While playing you can not only gain experience and gold for yoursel, but also DENY exp/gold for the enemy. You use not only your own abilities against enemy, but also use converted creeps (and their abilities) and surprise enemy, you can use those creeps and stack other creeps. In some modes you can even ban heroes that you know your enemy is good at. And you can know it just by going to replay portal or players portal. But LoL doesn't even have game modes to do it. On top of it in HoN everyone is equal. When in LoL player who plays or PAYS more has for example bigger mana/helath regeneration, in HoN everything is just. You don't have advantage over the other player just because you played more. The winning is based only on your skills and knowledge in contrast to LoL. And yes when i talk here about HoN i mention LoL all the time, because that is my purpose (along with this thread subject) - to compare HoN and LoL. I don't talk only about HoN because i don't really care if you're going to play it or not. I just want to compare those two, because i see that LoL is inferior to HoN in many aspects, so want to know which and what exactly. Or maybe i find some stuff that LoL does better than HoN, but i get really interesting answers from you, that confirm everything. Answers like "i don't need it", "it is not a big deal" or similar. And if you say so i believe LoL just doesn't have it and lacks many of FEATURES that i like. Now, do you make my point? I don't want anyone to play HoN, it has enough players - I want to compare two games from the same genre.

Do I have to answer that question for the umpteenth time - really?
On the financial viablility created from mods if the developer goes bust what happens to the servers? The game will not work if the devs go bust.
So i guess no. btw. i didn't play the game lately and i know it i don't remember which question, which forum - but i can tell the same: should i repeat myself what happenes with servers when the developer goes bust? answer: nothing, cause S2 will release server binary files after launch. So we will be able to put our own servers. Besides after release we will be able to even rent servers (like in cod4). So now answer me: what happens to lol servers when Riot goes bust? I already posted what i love about HoN, when i post it again you say that i write it for ump****enth time . Then i asked if LoL has those features? But i guess the answer in most cases is obvious too. ** on the xfire stats if I play it from steam it doesn't detect so don;t just sit back and assume HoN is leading unless you have actual play stats from the devs of each. Xfire is just an indicator but not great if detection doesn't work as default **
i hear similar explanation for every game that is not doing very well on xfire. I know that people in this thread are better example of what is more popular than xfire lol

tbh most people in this thread and debating this game will prefer LoL.
So take a bit wider audience, for eample all xfire users - what do they prefer? Answer is obvious - whenever i look at xfire ladder HoN is most of the time (all the time? i don't check everyday) higher than LoL. Even last day 6389 xfire users played HoN against 5399 LoL'ers. That's almost 20% of difference. tbh i suspect that LoL should be more popular, because: - it's free - it's easier - it's already out and open to everyone But current statistics show something different - why? Why still more people play this closed beta instead of LoL which is out? Why people prefer HoN if they don't like how hardcore, difficult it is? Maybe it must be the same reasons that millions of players played DotA for many years, despite bad community/difficulty etc. And guys, don't think i try to make you play HoN. Please don't play it, if you like simplier games don't even look at HoN - it is bad game for you, really bad I have one more question: Does LoL have mods or any kind of map editor? HoN have it (editor is work in progress) - if somebody doesn't like dots and colors on minimap, he can make a mod that will display avatars (or make request for such mod). If we don't like map - we can make new one. If we don't like this item we can make new one even when developer will go bust in the future etc. Does LoL have it?

Probably you're right, but i heard from some people that DotA community is much worse, and HoN community is getting better. If this "bad" DotA community survived - how many? - about 7 years with millions of players, I think it had this something that sucks you in despite bad community. For me it's the same in HoN. I won't yell at you, i actually don't yell (almost at all) ! (there are exceptions sometimes, but these happened only few times - when my friend wasn't listening to me and was dying because of this, feeding enemy team )

I'd probably still be playing HoN with you if you hadn't bailed on me when I tried talking you into giving it a fair shake I've moved on now, not going back. To think that you prefered Demigod to HoN, where is your Demigod now! Heathen! oh no, Hark, please go back, please, please, please Ok, no joking: I wasn't trying to make you play HoN, i tried to compare these two games and see what are the differences, i see of course many features that HoN has, but i didn't hear from you what LoL has that HoN hasn't? So i have to play it myself and check. And i really don't mind you playing anything (or not playing anything) so don't worry - have fun with what you like . I tell you a secret: I like LoL... it's a great game, (shhh just don't tell anyone ), really, you should be playing it. To think that you prefered Demigod to HoN, where is your Demigod now! Heathen! In the same place where lemmings, civilization 1, quake, unreal, hidden and dangerous, settlers, cod4 and 999*9999 other games are:). They were all great games. Its more that they are features that excite you yep, me and people playing HoN. But this is funny too: if i didn't get into HoN i would probably never need those features! It's like with knife: if you never new knife exists, you would be slicing bread with your teeth all the time. But once you get knife in your hands - you don't want to give it away It isn't that I can't handle it, I just don't want to be part of a community like that. When the game is played with friends it rocks...when it is played with a PUG, it isn't that great and the enjoyment is diminished. I just prefer not to hang out with a crowd that just slings around derogatory words like presents during Christmas.
I thought the same, that's why i stopped playing HoN when you stopped playing it too (along with Tals and Hark) half year ago. But then i thought: why a 10 year old boy or just a rude person can make me not play this game? Maybe it's a great game? No, i will do as i want and not as 10 year old boy and will try this game for some longer. And i did, and you can think what happened later As i said earlier i witness rude behavior very rarely now and haven't seen it in a long time. So after new player stops being noob he won't hear much (i would say even at all) rude behavior, but i understand it is a big problem for some people.

From what people are saying, this hardcore aspect has me a bit gun shy.
The same aspect throws some people away to simpler games like lol or demigod. But HoN is more and more popular and is slowly replacing even DotA itself. Like in biggest LAN party Dreamhack in Sweden (source: HoN replaces DotA at Dreamhack 2010) - DotA harcore players must be really suprised. Even in its beta stage, HoN is the most popular moba game on the world and still growing The map aspect for me isn't a big deal
Funny: i quite often hear this, when i ask about any feature that LoL lacks. Somebody answers "it is not needed", "i don't like it", "it is weird" or something like this. So i start to wonder why they need champions or items at all . Or similar somebody can say "i don't need plates, i can eat directly from the pot". Or "i don't need a pot, i can eat from the floor". Of course you can, and it maybe fun for you, but it's a bit different kind of "fun" The biggest issue I have with HoN is that the players are RUDE. Instead of attempting to help you out, I have some 10 year old kid calling me a "fag", "noob", and other colorful language. Really, does the game mean that much to you? The LoL experience has been much more friendly As i say: if somebody is too sensitive and a 10 year old boy can offend him - better not play this . But as i hear from my friends "i know how to deal with 10 year old" hehe. To be quite thrutful i haven't heared any rude behavior for long long time. But that's because i learned the game, but new playeres should be aware of this and be able to handle such situations.

At the point if you are loving HoN I would see no point in trying LoL - certainly from my perspective I see no point going the other ways. The things that appear to excite you totally turn me off I see the point - curiosity . Besides maybe I'd like to understand why some people would choose LoL instead of HoN if HoN is just deeper, more advanced and everyone is equal without playing/paying more. Or maybe find something LoL has that HoN doesn't (like mini avatars on minimap). So maybe it'll be inspiration to HoN community (or me, i programmed few small games in the past on my own) to make HoN mod and introduce one particular feature that i like? Well possibilities are endless with HoN mods and later editor . So it's always worth to try different moba game

hehe - Jerome: i didn't wanted to make anyone to play HoN! Eventually everyone will play what he likes. I want to try LoL again, but you don't have to play HoN for this! Not at all:). I was going to try LoL myself, but as i said i can't even sit at my computer without anyone offering me to play HoN (and it is so fun that sucks me in till i go to sleep). And i really want to try this LoL again, so when the time comes i will. Can't guarantee when and if though, but i installed LoL about 2 weeks ago . And i repeat: don't play HoN only because i will play LoL with you! More: don't play it at all if you don't like it or don't want to:)

well it seems normal when a thread has title "LoL & HoN..." and i like to compare if i see that one game is superior to the other in features/mechanics, because i can discover something new (maybe new features in game, LoL, that would make it at least a bit more appealing in comparison to HoN). But ok - i try not to do it, play LoL peacefully. It's a great game despite all lacking features:) Or maybe make a thread only for talking about LoL, because mods don't want to split this thread i think.

the most humorous part of all this for me is that when I tried to get Kossak to play HoN he said it was too difficult to understand and he wouldn't play with us. I moved on and ended up having more fun with LoL. Now cut to several months later and Kossak is the one trying to get everyone into HoN. O_o
I'll be playing LoL when I get the time...
very true HoN on the beggining is very, very difficult, and if you don't give it some time you probably won't like it (if you are new to such games as i was). But once you get into HoN, it's the best game ever and you wonder how could you ever play a moba game without features that are in HoN . -- edit -- Oh and i'm not trying to force anyone to play HoN - after half a year i have quite plenty of friends to play, and now find it difficult not to play when some of my friends are online (and there is always somebody online) . But if you look at both games, it's clear that HoN has more features and is more competitive (and for me more fun).

I think I'll pass on HoN. Is it still in Beta then, if you have limited keys to give?
Yes it's still in closed beta. You can't get into it if you don't have a key. From time to time they open beta for 24 hours for their facebook fans. I sent you a key via PM. If you want create your account. If you never played any MOBA game before it's good to watch basics on YouTube and/or read a bit. But some people prefer going right into the game. If you want so, make sure you know how to start practise mode (don't play anything else for the first time). You can practise right from the start without worrying about others (noone will connect to you) and statistics (they are not counted) and you can do anything you want in practise mode. Nice tip: you can have HoN running and your browser at the same time, and flawlessly alt-tab between them when you check this option: HoN -> options -> Graphics (first tab) -> uncheck "exclusive mode". With this your screen won't flicker at all while alt-tabbing. Here are some links which proved very helpful for me: Not official but very good knowledge about HoN: And Official: My in-game name is "Kossak" so feel free to add me (when you login and press "play online", you will have all community features under F6).

as for HoN: i have last one key left. The community happens quite often to be very bad (only for noobs, i don't see it at all now, when i learned how to play), so if you are kind of a sensitive person - better not play this. If you are sure you want to try this game with quite noob-hostile community and are not afraid of it - i can give you my last key . as for LoL: yea i coudn't find this client as well and had no idea where the hell they hide it . But at last i found a link from beta in which i was participating, so i guess it is it: https://signup.leagueoflegends.com/download#2 Though i don't know if it is EU client or US one. It seems to be US server... Tals will know better.

i didn't mean to force anyone to play HoN . Eventually its more of a personal choice which game to choose, but for me HoN has clearly more features. I would probably never need them if i didn't see them, but once you get used to them you wonder how you could ever play a game without it

no i didn't play LoL lately, but i did play it when it was in beta and i read forums about it. So does it mean i am wrong saying which features LoL doesn't have? So i have similar question: Did you actually used denying in HoN if you say it is so bad thing? I think this is clear, can you say it is different: when new person doesn't see what certain mechanic is for (or thinks it is unnecessary or too difficult), and advanced player can use that mechanic to gain big advantage - it is for sure very competitive mechanic, isn't it?
