81  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS4] The Order: 1886 on: February 19, 2015, 05:51:17 PM
I think there is an element of divisiveness for sure, but the more reviews I read, the more 'rotten in Denmark' this gets.  People go on (and on) about how fantastic parts of the game are, then with little info to the contrary hand it a low score.  This feels a little more witch hunt than usual.
82  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS4] The Order: 1886 on: February 19, 2015, 04:36:16 PM
I think a lot of folks have gotten wrapped up in this quality / quantity debate and it's had an impact on the scores here.  The 20%?  That's just clickbait.   My 95?  As was already said, the setting and characters really resonated with me.   If you are an action gamer, this game isn't for you.   We have been talking about it a lot as a team as well.   The example that I pointed out was Wind Waker.  Did Mr. Tingle's Extortion Quest for the bajillion-piece Triforce make that game better or worse?   I like games that don't overstay their welcome.  smile

So Ripley will have a thick South African accent and the whole thing will take place in a bombed out desert.   Oh wait, that's just every other movie Neill has done so far. slywink

Just kidding -- I'm just excited to see somebody new take a shot at it. Maybe he's a fan like us and gets what we want to see.  Ridley obviously has forgotten...

In Arizona very few people have basements.  (Something about the ground being made of sand, clay, and deported immigrant tears or something)

You have to dig below the frostline when placing the foundations for a house, and for places with deep frostlines you may as well dig a wee bit deeper to get room for a basement.  Since the frost line in your area is only a foot or so, it takes a lot more time and money to dig the rest of the way for a basement.

Since your friend has an Arizona basement, he must be rolling in the dough and so he should pay for your laptop.   Truthiness!

Lol!  He's certainly rolling in huge house payments!   He's one of those dudes that never seems to have two pennies to rub together but always has the best toys.
86  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Help/Advice for amateur fighting on: February 18, 2015, 07:13:48 PM
I'd stick with your current class.  Guys with longer reach are still gonna be leaner fighters.  They may have a little bit of a reach advantage, but you'll be at a more 'neutral' weight.  Cutting through dehydration will greatly add to your first-round adrenaline dump as your body needs to carry electrolytes through your system via water.
87  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Help/Advice for amateur fighting on: February 18, 2015, 05:15:27 PM
Holy shit Kato!  You put on some serious muscle since we met!  Nice work on the wins.   I fought amateur for a while, and I've trained more fighters than I can count (some semi-pro), so if you ever need advice or have questions, let me know.   Maybe I can drag the info you need out of my punchy skullbox.  smile

Bhahahhaha....I needed a good laugh.    In Arizona very few people have basements.  (Something about the ground being made of sand, clay, and deported immigrant tears or something)   Well, a friend of mine DOES have one, and it has a concrete floor.   I rolled my ankle walking down the stairs and the 17lbs laptop became a 17lbs missile, bouncing down the stairs resting splayed open on its face.   So, yes, while it does look like I dropped it from space, it was slightly less distance than that.

Or TLDR, it wasn't this:

I've been kinda under the radar over the past few days....why?  Well....this fresh hell below.   I have insurance on the thing, but it's soooo frustrating and stressful wondering if they are going to cover it.  It's accidental drop and damage, and I accidentally dropped and damaged it, but at the end of the day SquareTrade is an insurance company, so all bets are off.

V for Vendetta
The Last Samurai
King Kong

All are on HD-DVD.  If you want em, pay for the shipping and you've got em.  If I don't hear from somebody in a few days, they are going to the trash can...sadly. :/

The issue was with the console firmware, not the game.  No such issues on the XB1 and PC version, and no such issues if you didn't patch up to 2.0 before you played.  They are expecting the 2.0.2 patch today or tomorrow, and it's already confirmed to fix the crashing / corruption issues.  I wouldn't worry too much about it compadre.  smile

I'm rather torn on this topic.  Watch a few episodes of Drugs, Inc. and see if it changes your mind.   I think it does get abused in some places, but in others where the need is more dire I can see the need for an armored vehicle and assault rifles.  It's certainly a topic worth discussion for sure...

I appreciate all of your feedback, everyone.  I think my faith in people's interpretation of religion is really what is failing.  Also, since that cart is hooked to politics on both sides, that creates an even heavier burden.  I think I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing - being the best person I can be and not worrying about what anyone else thinks about it....

Later this month I'll have the opportunity to play Dragon Age: Inquisition, experiencing the first few hours of gameplay, along with a good bit of the multiplayer experience.

The three main classes for the Inquisitor are listed below.   Since I'll be doing capture for my preview, which of these would you like to see any why?  I'll only have time for one...

Warrior: Two-Handed
Warrior: Weapon and Shield
Rogue: Dual Wield
Rogue: Archer

Realistically, you'll get to see much of this anyway as I'll have a full party at some point, with a spattering of these skills under their tunic, robe, or belt.   My tendency is towards Mage for my first Inquisitor.  Thoughts?

I'll also have the chance to sit down with team for an interview or two.  Let's drum up some questions.  I'll start:

1.) It's a huge tactical change to remove healing spells from the game?  Will there be other methods of healing?

It sounds like you are trending toward a generic spirituality or mysticism -- deism, animism, or some other paganism -- rather than a religion. Religion is about answers based on revealed truth, not questions. That makes it the opposite of science. Science thrives on "unanswered things" and does not ask you to believe in it except as a powerful method of investigating and understanding the material world.

While I think all religions can be philosophically illuminating, none of them are as "true" as they think they are, and none are worth joining or following unless you crave the social inclusion.

I don't believe in any religion (obviously) nor am I very spiritual, so this probably isn't the perspective you're looking for.

On the contrary, it's exactly the perspective I'm looking for - a rational one.  I guess that's the part that sticks in my craw; the revealed truth.  Truth hasn't been revealed to me, I have to buy into it.  I'd rather my belief not resemble a magic trick where I have to believe hard enough to make it real.  There are entirely too many things out there that can't be explained away by science or religion that make it where I can't let go of "God" (or whatever powerful force created us little ants) but I can't look at, for instance, the Bible and say "Yea, everything in there?  Totally real."  I'm sure I'm "going to Hell" and all that at this point, but I think it's more important to be as good a person as I can rather than ascribe to a religious dogma.
114  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Crisis of faith or is it over? on: September 26, 2014, 09:52:56 PM
I was raised "platform agnostic" but lean more Baptist than anything else.  I've found that as an adult my philosophy with martial arts and my time in the military had an interesting effect on my faith.  Reading and re-reading the bible, watching documentaries from all sides, and watching the absolutely vile people who call themselves Christians but then go very far out of their way to cast aspersions and judgements on their fellow humans have driven me down a path where I feel like I only believe in the general concept of Christianity lately.   I thought maybe crisis of faith, but it isn't passing.  I still believe in God, or a higher power that put all this random shit together, but there are too many unanswered things on both science and religion to fully accept and believe either.   I think I'm a good person, but I find myself having less and less in common with anyone who would call themselves "religious".

Interested to hear what you folks have to say...

I feel like I just bought my 780 and apparently I'm now two generations behind.   I look at the Xbox One and Playstation 4 and I think to myself "Yep, that's where developers are going to aim for this generation" - is there even a point to pushing much higher than I am right now?  Or is there some incredible PC game that I need to have that isn't on XB1/PS4?  I just feel like Nvidia is upgrading for upgrade's sake.
