It's live and I'm about to hit 92! Is anyone else playing?

Shadowmoon Valley is gorgeous and garrisons are really, really cool.

yup but stuck in queue hell

God help me....I just reinstalled.  I think I'm gonna dip my toes in the water and see what happens.  I've not played since 2005ish, so it should be.....interesting.

There is a second patch that supposedly helps with some of the stuff you'll see in our review in an hour.  smile

The issue was with the console firmware, not the game.  No such issues on the XB1 and PC version, and no such issues if you didn't patch up to 2.0 before you played.  They are expecting the 2.0.2 patch today or tomorrow, and it's already confirmed to fix the crashing / corruption issues.  I wouldn't worry too much about it compadre.  smile

Can you guys all do me a favor?

Jump on N4G and throw some comments in there?  It helps us expand our audience by pushing our review up the ranks.   It also, obviously, has our review in it.   4000 words, a video review, a side-by-side comparison, and 90 minutes of multiplayer isn't easy to cobble together on a deadline.  smile

However, even in the lore, the term kossith is no longer used. Is just Qunari or nothing.

The fact that you are this invested (as am I) in the religion of one of a handful of races in the game says a whole hell of a lot about the power of storytelling in Bioware games.  smile

A new episode of the Metatheory podcast is up! I'm really proud of this episode, aside from some great gaming discussion, we touch on the recent Gamersgate controversy and what it means to gaming culture. There's a lot of rich, insightful commentary from the staff that explores points I haven't seen raised elsewhere.

Give it a listen if you have the time  icon_biggrin

50  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Should Police Departments Have Military Gear? Obama says "Let's look into it." on: October 17, 2014, 08:14:02 PM
I'm rather torn on this topic.  Watch a few episodes of Drugs, Inc. and see if it changes your mind.   I think it does get abused in some places, but in others where the need is more dire I can see the need for an armored vehicle and assault rifles.  It's certainly a topic worth discussion for sure...
51  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Crisis of faith or is it over? on: October 17, 2014, 08:12:33 PM
I appreciate all of your feedback, everyone.  I think my faith in people's interpretation of religion is really what is failing.  Also, since that cart is hooked to politics on both sides, that creates an even heavier burden.  I think I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing - being the best person I can be and not worrying about what anyone else thinks about it....

Hate to point it out, but some of what's going on in this thread is the cause for my crisis of faith.  It's become a polarizing political issue more than one about a relationship with God.

56  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Need community help! Dragon Age Inquisition on: October 09, 2014, 09:41:37 PM
Later this month I'll have the opportunity to play Dragon Age: Inquisition, experiencing the first few hours of gameplay, along with a good bit of the multiplayer experience.

The three main classes for the Inquisitor are listed below.   Since I'll be doing capture for my preview, which of these would you like to see any why?  I'll only have time for one...

Warrior: Two-Handed
Warrior: Weapon and Shield
Rogue: Dual Wield
Rogue: Archer

Realistically, you'll get to see much of this anyway as I'll have a full party at some point, with a spattering of these skills under their tunic, robe, or belt.   My tendency is towards Mage for my first Inquisitor.  Thoughts?

I'll also have the chance to sit down with team for an interview or two.  Let's drum up some questions.  I'll start:

1.) It's a huge tactical change to remove healing spells from the game?  Will there be other methods of healing?

It sounds like you are trending toward a generic spirituality or mysticism -- deism, animism, or some other paganism -- rather than a religion. Religion is about answers based on revealed truth, not questions. That makes it the opposite of science. Science thrives on "unanswered things" and does not ask you to believe in it except as a powerful method of investigating and understanding the material world.

While I think all religions can be philosophically illuminating, none of them are as "true" as they think they are, and none are worth joining or following unless you crave the social inclusion.

I don't believe in any religion (obviously) nor am I very spiritual, so this probably isn't the perspective you're looking for.

On the contrary, it's exactly the perspective I'm looking for - a rational one.  I guess that's the part that sticks in my craw; the revealed truth.  Truth hasn't been revealed to me, I have to buy into it.  I'd rather my belief not resemble a magic trick where I have to believe hard enough to make it real.  There are entirely too many things out there that can't be explained away by science or religion that make it where I can't let go of "God" (or whatever powerful force created us little ants) but I can't look at, for instance, the Bible and say "Yea, everything in there?  Totally real."  I'm sure I'm "going to Hell" and all that at this point, but I think it's more important to be as good a person as I can rather than ascribe to a religious dogma.
62  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Crisis of faith or is it over? on: September 26, 2014, 09:52:56 PM
I was raised "platform agnostic" but lean more Baptist than anything else.  I've found that as an adult my philosophy with martial arts and my time in the military had an interesting effect on my faith.  Reading and re-reading the bible, watching documentaries from all sides, and watching the absolutely vile people who call themselves Christians but then go very far out of their way to cast aspersions and judgements on their fellow humans have driven me down a path where I feel like I only believe in the general concept of Christianity lately.   I thought maybe crisis of faith, but it isn't passing.  I still believe in God, or a higher power that put all this random shit together, but there are too many unanswered things on both science and religion to fully accept and believe either.   I think I'm a good person, but I find myself having less and less in common with anyone who would call themselves "religious".

Interested to hear what you folks have to say...

I feel like I just bought my 780 and apparently I'm now two generations behind.   I look at the Xbox One and Playstation 4 and I think to myself "Yep, that's where developers are going to aim for this generation" - is there even a point to pushing much higher than I am right now?  Or is there some incredible PC game that I need to have that isn't on XB1/PS4?  I just feel like Nvidia is upgrading for upgrade's sake.

It would be great to have better integration with the front page reviews and topic discussion, but it might make those non-specific discussions drop off from awareness.

What's missing from Tapatalk?  Should be working as that not the case?
66  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / The forums - how can we improve the experience? on: September 12, 2014, 10:05:12 PM
We've had plans to get the forums, the front page, G+, facebook, etc. all integrated to all comments from all locations feed the same.  It helps spur conversation.  I'm going to put finances on that to make it happen, with any luck, before the end of this year.  I wanted to ask though...

What else would you like to see?   What other wish-list items do you have?

For frame of reference, this is an example of the software we'll be moving towards and how it can be implemented:

I welcome your feedback and look forward to making some serious improvements across the entire site.  smile

wow! Talk about doomsday here guys.

The 'experts' are all saying that should it migrate to NA we have tried and true quarantine procedures that would serve to greatly lessen the impact.

Nothing to see here - move along (or keep watching Fox News..... ninja)

I'd like to politely ask to keep this from being moved to R&P because I legitimately want to participate, and my conservative ass isn't allowed there.

However, to think that it's unlikely it gets here is naive at best, and I Hope to God our quarantine procedures are that bullet proof.  The Fox News jab was frankly nauseatingly naive as well.

I agree - this isn't a political conversation.   Let's not make it into one unduly.

Yea, I'm not going to jump ship before I have sturdy something or other to land on.  I do feel like my job is paralleling a Dilbert cartoon though.

I told my boss today that I don't feel appreciated, haven't for several years, I think my previous bosses have torpedoed my chances of success here, and as a result I feel like I might need to start looking for other work.   I figure that'll either light a fire under his ass, nothing will happen, or I'll end up leaving.  Either way, it'll work itself out and I just started the countdown....
74  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / So when do you quit? on: July 25, 2014, 10:24:36 PM
So I've been at my job for coming up on three years now.  In that time I've had 8 bosses, 6 VPs, and 4 CIOs.  My newest boss sat back and analyzed things for over 4 months, leaving an ailing department to suffer in the wake.  We've also had 7 reorgs in that time.   I've not received a decent pay raise in three years.  (The first was pro-rated because reasons, the second they punished everyone because our current CIO was angry at our boss at the time, and the third got shuffled out to January to reset the cycle as we used to get raises in July)  I've been handed four teams to manage, with two managers reporting to me that I have to mentor.  I made a case for a promotion to Director more than enough times and I'm getting the runaround.   People adjacent to my boss in the org chart are telling me that it'll work itself out if I'm patient, but c'mon...I've been hearing that for three years.   I feel underappreciated and underpaid for the amount of work I do.   At what point do you say enough is enough?     icon_cry

Just got into this tangle with Centurylink.  So my mom lives in a 55+ community.  At the pedestal outside the park they are getting 26db of signal, but by the time it makes it to my mom's house it's 5.3 db, less than what is required to even remain connected, much less actually use the Internet with any reliability.  So I talk to the tech and he tells me that they'll likely just disqualify the entire area and roll back all of their internet rather than putting a tap in to boost the signal.   saywhat   I'm continuously blown away by just how awful customer service has become.
