PG-13 the HELL are you going to have an epic battle between two of the deadliest killing machines ever to hit the silver screen and have it be the same rating as Austin Powers?

THe earpiece itself worked, but that little piece of plastic it uses to clip itself onto the other piece of the headset had broken off. So I Drilled a tiny hole through both the earpiece and the headpiece and put a bolt and nut through it from an old remote control car I had.
EXACTLY the same issue I had with mine!  Stupid crappy clip design....

I'm looking forward to those bluetooth babies I saw at E3 from Hip.
16124  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Collateral - Movie Discussion (Spoilers) on: August 09, 2004, 07:28:12 PM

How in the world would a trained professional killer not have his an amateur with AT LEAST one bullet during the train scene at the end? But the amateur hits him? Please...
You can see the bullets in the door that didn't quite penetrate from Cruises gun that he got from the cop.  Foxx'es gun was the assassins gun, you can bet he was probably using armor piercing rounds, so I'm willing to suspend my disbelief on that.

It's not a bad movie, but between the look-how-cool-I-am director kitsch, the easy-way-out plot devices, and all of the coincidences, (yeah, like you're going to lose cell signal in one of the busiest business districts in the world)
Ugh...I know EXACTLY where that building is, and having stayed in the hotel close to there let me tell you that the cell reception was crap.  Besides, he ran out of power. smile

That said, there were some plot devices that needed too much thought for an action flick.  As for why not drive himself, they explained in the movie that he uses the crazy-cabbie as his cover.  He doesn't exist...
16125  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Collateral - Movie Discussion (Spoilers) on: August 08, 2004, 03:44:53 PM
So I went and saw Collateral yesterday and I have to admit that I enjoyed it quite a bit.   I'm not a big Jaime Foxx fan and that dude from "In The Cut" made me think he was going to pull a Halle Barry and ruin my movie in record time, but all in all it was solid performances all around.  Even Tom Cruise didn't turn in his usual Captain Charisma character portrayal.  (Although I really wasn't sold on his 'aged' look)

(Spoilers below)
The move kept a solid pace and some parts of it completely shocked me (Jazz man...I didn't see it comin)  and other parts were absolutely predictable (JP Smith as last on the list).  The only thing that I thought could have used a little more love was the very just seemed very abrupt, although him sitting on the MTI and riding it was fitting.
(End Spoilers)

Anyone else see the movie?  What did you think?

Xbox Chooses Game Stars Live To Present Playable Code

Friday 6 August 2004/... Visitors to Game Stars Live will be among the first players in the world to get their hands on the hugely-anticipated Xbox® blockbuster Halo 2, as Xbox has confirmed that the follow-up to Bungie's record-breaking, award-winning first-person action adventure will receive its UK public playable debut at September's Game Stars Live, the biggest computer and video gaming exhibition the country has ever seen.

Halo 2 has been kept under wraps since its announcement – only a few select members of the press have been privileged to play any code to date. The Xbox presence at the Docklands event will feature a dedicated Halo 2 area, with visitors able to sample some of the explosive action for themselves, way ahead of Halo 2's UK release on 11th November 2004.

For the first time in the series, Halo 2 will offer full online compatibility through the revolutionary Xbox® LiveTM service. Game Stars Live visitors can therefore gain a competitive advantage, ensuring they're ready for battle once the game is available.

Game Stars Live runs from September 1st to September 5th at London's impressive ExCeL exhibition facility. Filling an area the size of three football pitches, Game Stars Live will offer visitors the chance to play all the top Christmas releases from the major games publishers, in a star-studded show that offers something for everyone – no matter what their age or gaming experience. Celebrity appearances, gaming challenges and a whole host of special, themed zones will excite and enthral visitors.

Attendees confirmed to date include Acclaim, Activision, Atari, Eidos, EA Games, Gizmondo, Konami, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nokia and Ubisoft – with many more to be announced shortly. Tickets for the show are on-sale now through, priced £10 in advance or £12 on the door.

"Halo 2 is one of the most anticipated games on any console, and it's coming only to Xbox this Christmas," reveals Stephen McGill, Head of Xbox Marketing. "We're sure its attendance will prove to be one of Game Stars Live's busiest draws, and we look forward to proving that the relentless hype and enthusiasm from both press and public since its initial announcement is well-founded."

"This is incredible news for the UK's gamers," says Kirsty Adams, event director, London Event Company, organisers of the event. "We're delighted Xbox has chosen Game Stars Live to unveil one of the year's biggest releases, and we can't wait to see the reaction of attendees when they finally get their hands on Halo 2 two months before its release."

Further information on Game Stars Live can be found at Tickets can be bought through the Website or by calling the ticket hotline on 0870 272 0012).

Press passes to the show can be applied for at, the Website of the event's sister show European Games Network (trade only).

Question: What did you do in the military before you became a civie like the rest of us? Or is that classified?

Hmmm, I had two jobs while in the military, one I can talk about (Worked in IT for RED HORSE on a Nuke base and a Fighter base) and one that I can't talk about. smile  I enjoyed both.

Question: Has your life changed for the better since the inception of Console Gold?

Hmm....changed for the better?  Well, I find that I've learned a lot about people, business, management, and life in general since Console Gold kicked off.  That knowledge will serve me well in my life I think.  I'm sure I don't need to tell you how much time this takes though, this could easily be a full time job.  I'd love for it to become one....

Ok, so I'm thinking with games like Doom 3, Vampire, and Half Life 2 on the horizon I need to upgrade.  There are a ton of boards out there that have Serial ATA connections, what does that do for me with my EIDE?  Is that board completely incompatable with my current hard drives or will I just not get the performance bennies of Serial ATA?

Q: What the hell are you talking about?

I ask that question....often.  Especially here at work.  "

Q: When is the official CG Phoenix get together?

That is a good question.  What would we like to do?   I'd be cool with trekking down to AZ Mills or something for a movie / lunch kinda thing on a weekend or something.  Might be able to get quite a few of us there... (For the record, I hate the mall though)

16152  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Console Gold Interviews - Our Readership on: August 02, 2004, 02:38:01 PM
Something that Evil Avatar did back in the day that I really enjoyed was the interview with the readership of the site.  The interviews allowed us to learn a little bit about our fellow readers and they were always fun.  I'll kick this week off by interviewing myself.  Next up....lets find out!  Feel free to ask questions, that is half the fun:

Q: Who are you?
A: I'm you, you idiot.

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
A: That isn't a question....what is wrong with you?  *sigh*
So my real name is Ron Burke, I run Console Gold.  I currently live in Phoenix, Arizona.  I'm a full time Network Engineering student at DeVry and I work full time at an ISP called CableOne.  I'm a gamer at heart and I love the industry.  I get to work with a fantastic core of people both here at the site and also at companies like Eidos, Bethesda, Namco, Codemasters, Sammy, and more.  It has been an interesting couple of years and it just keeps getting better.   I graduate at the end of next year-ish and I fully intend to take the next step and get into the gaming industry on the IT and infrastructure side.  (You hear that Blizzard?  You NEED me for Worlds of Warcraft's infrastructure!)

Q: What is wrong with me? Did you read your own, you are all over the place.
A: Was that a question?

Q: So how about your personal life?  "Married with Children" or more like "The Bachelor"?
A: Ugh, reality TV.  What vapid airheads on those very shallow.  Oh, sorry, I digress.  I'm married and have been since 1996.  Her name is Laura and she works here at the site as the staff photographer.  Anyone who has seen some of my camera work can tell you why we need her on staff. *shudder*  She is attending Le Cordon Bleu Academy of Restaurant Management and will graduate about the same time I do.  The wife and I agreed very early on that we would not have kids until we graduate from college, so there are no Ron 2.0s running around or plans for that software revision any time in the immediate future.  Instead we have two Dalmatians, one Jack Russell Terrier, and two ferrets.

Q: So why Console Gold?
A: That's not an easy or quick answer, but here we go:
I was a Gone Gold reader when it first kicked off.  I don't remember why I started reading but I think it had something to do with pancakes. Mmmm...pancakes.  Well, I talked with Rich a few times on the phone and via email back then and we talked about his plans to open a console gaming site with Rob Smolka of PCGamer fame at the time.   Well, it sat there for a good while with a coming soon page and I decided to give it a shot.  I didn't know the first thing about web design or the industry, so it was absolutely trial by fire.   It is amazing I got this thing off the ground at all.

We went through several iterations of graphic design to get to the one you have now, but the vision has pretty much stayed the same.  We want to bring our readers quality reviews, news that matters, and previews that aren't paid for by the highest bidder.  Its a lot of fun and a lot of work.  It is a ton of sleepless nights, but is also very rewarding.  I've gotten to meet a lot of great people and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Q: What? Oh sorry, I drifted off.  Can you use smaller words and speak less?
A: Uh....Napster Bad, Console Gold Good.

Q: Anything other questions you wanted to ask?
A: Nope, that about covers it.

Q: I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to the readers...
A: Oh

My suggestion?  Talk with the PR drone for the school and show them the site.  They are always looking for better ways of retaining new students, let them know that this isn't something you are going to drop over summer break, and then print business cards.  If you go the card route, let me know and I'll direct you to the place I use. smile

That is correct.  When you skid against a rail, the paint transfer stays forever.  Same with marks in the pavement, damage to the car, and more.   I am writing a preview on the title where I'll see if I can't shed some light on some other goodies. smile
