If Simon and Loren are OK with it, I'll be more than happy to extend those same +'s here.  The issue then becomes maintaining them across two boards but I leave that to you and them.

Yes, the missions can be difficult, but if you try it so many times it'll ask if you'd like to skip it.  smile  Frustration abated, off you go to the next Simpson adventure
16125  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Hardware Reviews Discussion - CG Development on: July 19, 2004, 09:15:00 PM
Battery Life was more addressed in "Power Management".  The idea being to bring to light that some controllers say 100 hours and some are 50.
16126  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Hardware Reviews Discussion - CG Development on: July 19, 2004, 06:04:29 PM
What elements would you like to see in a hardware review?  We want to relaunch that section but we'd like the reviews to be tighter focused to what YOU want to see in a hardware review.  What is important?  Here are a few to get you started...

Price?
Durability? (Subjective over a short timeline, but important I think)
Ergonomics? (works for controllers, would be a more 'placement of controls' for things like speakers)
Game Test? (You'd think we'd test it with a game, but some stuff doesn't apply like the Pelican switchbox)
Power Management? (Again, doesn't always apply)

We might also add 'editors slant' or somesuch that'll allow a 5% +/- to the review based on how we feel about it.  Some stuff just doesn't get the score that it should or gets a higher score and shouldn't, this might help.

What are your ideas? smile

Get Ready to Summon Your Spirit Strike -- Sudeki Goes Gold

Microsoft Game Studios today announced that Sudeki, the exclusive Xbox® roleplaying game (RPG), has gone gold and is scheduled to ship to stores on July 20 in North America for an estimated retail price of $49.95 (U.S.). Sudeki will be available in Europe in August. Developed in the U.K. by Climax Group, Sudeki immerses players in a world of real-time, fast-action combat, where they'll need to use their wits, magic and powerful Spirit Strikes to defeat other-worldly forces.

Four heroes -- a sultry wizardress, a soaring gunslinger, a powerful swordsman and a dark huntress -- are about to be hurtled over the edge in a flight into a world of darkness and evil. Sudeki pushes the limits of what an RPG can be by providing bigger worlds, more powerful heroes and sexier heroines; all set in the context of fantastical real-time action. In a world ripped apart by deceit, Sudeki players become heroes on a twisting path of betrayal, real-time combat and unbelievable magic.

16131  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Gonegold and Consolegold on: July 15, 2004, 04:35:06 PM
Well, we did in fact discuss at great length possibly having the forums lead to eachother in the manner that Loren stated.  Unfortunately it never felt like it was 'supported' by the mods at GG and my attempts to talk to Rich about it never worked out.

Beyond that, some of the features we have planned for the forum wouldn't have worked out as we have absolutely 0 control over GG's forums.  Frankly, the 'conversion' process has taken more than 9 months and was causing us to crash every time the forum software burped.  I can't expect my readers to put up with that level of instability.

We also wanted to change some of the rules that were in place at Gone Gold.  I have seen 0 negative backlash to having pricing in our trade forums.  Granted, they aren't as active as I'd like but we just have a different look on things here than over at GG.  We also wanted to expand our boards into several boards that would allow us to branch out a bit.  We have grown pretty dramatically in just a few months, and continue to grow.

To answer your question, the best way to get things fired up in here is to start engaging conversations and tell your friends.  I try to toss out whatever is on my mind on these boards to get things going.  Any suggestions are more than welcome though.

One last thing, Tom tried out a 60 minute mini-review thing for Tales of Symponia.  I think that worked out well, so I'm thinking we might be doing more of that in the future, but again, any suggestions are welcome. smile

Why is it that some movies and shows never get a US retail release, or if they do its so vapor thin that you can never find it?

For example:
Airwolf series - wide release in Europe, Ebay only here
Best of the Best - DVD is only released in Europe

Is the market more flexible there or is it just too saturated here?

Now THAT is a great idea! With the current setup I don't know how easy it would be to do that (although the stories are marked with the little icons) but that would be a very cool thing to implement. I do that on GameTab since I don't own a Cube.
Already something in the long range plan. smile

Also, rather than having a daily wrap-up as a news article...
The Wrap is becoming automated and will probably be moved to the features page.  Still figuring out where it works best.

I don't know why you can't search old news archives.

They aren't quite DB driven yet, that's coming.

It is a ton of work and because we are all (to borrow a phrase from some friends) Gamers-With-Jobs, we have to do what we can when we can.  Just know that none of us are the 'stand still' type and we will always keep moving to the future.

I'll agree with Loren.  There is a lot to be said for setting everyone in the room on fire then sailing away on your own personal stackable crate!

Well, I've done well with just occasionally using my herbology skill.  I can usually find what I need to get by with my enchanting skill.  I like how the skills are complimentary but not mutually required.  You don't HAVE to skin creatures to work on leather, you can buy it cheap enough, but that cuts into your profit margin.  I'm finally at a skill level where I can craft and make money with it.  Good times.

So you are on the fence for whatever reason (length, middle-of-the-road review scores, whatever) on a new game.  Today's poll asks whether you would rent it, buy it, or wait for the eventual price drop.

16147  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Worlds of Warcraft - An Introspective on: July 12, 2004, 12:20:30 PM
So, Tim and I got into the Worlds of Warcraft Beta over the weekend.  First off I wanted to see if anyone from CG has made it in so we can adventure together, but second I wanted to really commend Blizzard for making the first MMO that never felt like a treadmill.  I'm level 14, almost 15 and I'm still enjoying it as much as when I started.  With the quest system, the pets, the tradeskills, and the sheer scale of the game I just don't find this to be 'more of the same' as I did with other games in recent memory. (Lineage II comes directly to mind)

I'm casting my support to Blizzard, congratulations....you've got the formula, and my 12.95 when the game goes retail!

It sounds like a lofty goal to me, these spammers are crafty little bastards.

Whoa, that is cool.  Their discography has been pretty accurate on most of the things I've put in too.    Some of the recommendations are a little odd (Six Degrees of Seperation between Depeche Mode and Britney Spears) but still that is pretty cool.  I'm gonna check out some albums that they recommended, so they accomplished their goal. smile  Pretty smart way of getting folks to buy through your Amazon link!
16155  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Spiderman Sells 2 million on: July 07, 2004, 07:56:02 PM
Thats the PR spin.  If EB purchases the games, they are purchased as far as Activision is concerned.  They are stating it (and everyone does) from their own perspective.  Think of it this way, if you are selling apples and some vendor comes by and picks up 50 apples, as far as you are concerned you just sold 50 apples...what they do afterwards is no concern of yours.  Its a weak analogy, but what can ya do? slywink

But its good of you to read through the hype!  Never trust what you read! </conspiracy>

16157  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How many finished games in the first half of this year? on: July 07, 2004, 07:42:46 PM
I've learned to function without sleep.  Sincerely, I will sit down for 10-15 minutes and play when I get home just to detox from work and school.  That usually means I play through one mission of Front Mission 4 or something and then put the game away.  It takes a great deal of restraint.  Eventually the game is finished.

That said, when a review is pending, I'll block time to churn through the game to review it.  It make mean several smaller blocks or a few larger blocks, but its all about time management. (but its mostly the 'not sleeping' thing.)
