16041  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [CG news discussion] Game Sales Down? on: September 03, 2004, 04:38:57 PM

16042  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Wanna play Dragon Empires? on: September 03, 2004, 03:15:51 PM
Well that's too damned bad.  It has been cancelled due to 'technical difficulties'.   Technical Issues usually boils down to "We'd like to finish the game but technically we'd have to pay you, and that will create difficulties as we technically have no money".  D'oh!

Codemasters has taken the decision to cancel further development of Dragon Empires, the company’s massively multiplayer online role playing project.

Dragon Empires received incredible support from its online community and won acclaim from PC and online media while in development. However, technical issues have resulted in the project’s discontinuation.

Many of the game’s development team, including programmers and artists, are being transferred to Codemasters’ internal development studios to work on current and future titles.

The decision to close Dragon Empires’ development does not impact on Codemasters’ long-term ambitions in the massively multiplayer online gaming market and the company remains very active in evaluating future opportunities.

The Dragon Empires website and its popular community forums will remain live at for the immediate future.

If it was the most realistic Sniper simulation to date, they'd know its called BDC or Bullet Drop Compensation, not Bullet Trajectory Degradation.

Sorry...gotta poke fun.  smile

I'll have to check it out.  I always play the sniper in any game I can so this'll be right up my alley.

and combat as you face the seemingly impossible task of battling an advanced
race of evil aliens.

...and NOW?  That's right...he just called my insurance company, reversed himself and is filing a claim on my insurance.  SO now I get to file assault charges, have him arrested, go to court, beat the ticket and he gets to look like an ass.  It would have been less work to just kill him....sigh.

16052  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / SW Battlefront = Gold on: September 02, 2004, 07:40:50 PM
LucasArts has announced this afternoon that Star Wars Battlefront has gone gold for PC, Xbox, and PS2, and will hit store shelves on the 21st of this month.  Hmmmm....that is EXACTLY the same day that the original trilogy is hitting shelves.  Coincidence?  I think not.

Star Wars Battlefront is an intense open-ended single player and multiplayer action game set in the Star Wars universe that puts fans and gamers in the heat of the action as they re-live all of the epic battles from the classic and prequel eras. In the game, console and PC players can choose intense free-form multiplayer combat or a variety of robust single player modes including "Historical Campaigns" and "Galactic Conquest."

16054  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [CG news discussion] Game Sales Down? on: September 02, 2004, 05:18:16 PM

16055  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [CG news discussion] Game Sales Down? on: September 02, 2004, 05:02:20 PM
I think there is still room to compete, even on that list.  For instance, I have ZERO interest in GT4 when you put it next to Forza Racing.  That said, I'll be there picking up GTA, Halo 2, HL2, and MGS3.  (and I've already pre-loaded HL2 for next September...or this September...or whatever that crowbar ad said its coming)

Its funny, when I think of my holiday list, this group didn't immediately come to mind.  Strange, that.

My list would go a lil something like this:
Xmen Legends
Cthulu (yay!)
Suikoden IV (I've already set 110 hours aside for this title)
Mech Assaul 2

See?  I think its just naysayers screaming at the big titles.  News flash guys, those titles are not at the tops of everyone's list!

(oh yea...and j00 need d3 ecksbocks Tom)
16056  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Ico 2? on: September 02, 2004, 04:45:36 PM
I posted it on the front page but check it out:

According to a new website from Sony, a pair of previously-unannounced titles are going to debut in a shade over 7 days. I smacked the caption with Bablefish and it translated to "SCEJ has two wonderful titles to announce!". Of course, 'unvealed' doesn't mean 'coming to the US' but we can keep our fingers crossed!

(UPDATE: Some wiley fans at 1Up have decompiled the animations on the page and found two titles; "Nico" and "Genji". Nico is the rumored sequel to the smash-hit Ico, while Genji is still unknown.)

I can't imagine why it has taken Sony this long to capitolize on such a fantastic title!  I hope the rumors are true....

16058  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Acclaim is sunk...but what's going with it? on: September 02, 2004, 02:22:40 PM
I'm thinking the independent development houses will hit the big red Pause button and have to look for a new publisher.  I don't think they are part of the shipwreck though.

My heart goes out to the 600 people who lost their jobs though...that really bites.

From the PR Piece:

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon® 2 for PlayStation® 2 will be a completely different game from the XboxTM version, and the first title in the Tom Clancy franchise built exclusively from the ground up for PlayStation® 2. Ubisoft's Shanghai studio (creators of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® for PlayStation® 2) is developing the PlayStation® 2 game, while its Red Storm Entertainment development studio continues to focus on the XboxTM and PC versions.

Looks like Shanghai is doing the PS2 and Red Storm is handling the Xbox and PC.  Our bad!  All makey-fixey on the front page.  Thanks for pointing it out. smile

Looks like Alexander Seropian (founder of Bungie) is pushing forward with his company "Wideload Games, Inc." and has picked Aspyr Media as his publisher.  Might we see a RTS of Myth-like proportions?  We can only hope...

Aspyr Media Announces Strategic Relationship to Publish First Title from Wideload Games; Worldwide Agreement to Publish Game from Former Bungie Founder

All of the basic principles of being an evil megalomaniac are available to be mastered.  Gamers can build a secure underground base complete with armories, barracks, and all-important freezer rooms. They’ll train an awesome army of brutal mercenaries armed to the teeth and prepare to repel the Forces of Justice who've caught wind of their whereabouts. They’ll extract information about their plans by capturing and interrogating prisoners, and use their powerful henchmen to defeat the martial arts legend and super agent, Jet Chan, in a final chaotic showdown.

More information about Evil Genius can be found at the official website:

In Evil Genius gamers assume the role of a wicked mastermind bent on achieving global domination through the construction of the ultimate doomsday device.  A tongue-in-cheek take on the 60's spy thriller genre, Evil Genius offers the chance to be the villain and control a secret island fortress complete with powerful (and strangely dressed) henchmen, mindlessly loyal minions and a wide range of hilarious gizmos.

All the everyday tasks of the megalomaniac are available to experience as players build a secret base, train minions, gain infamy and notoriety by completing daring missions, toy with the forces of justice by setting clever traps, torture captives with ingenious devices, and develop evil super weapons to complete a nefarious master plan.
