Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Can you truly cut the cable? Getting away from the cocks at Cox.

After yet another price increase with literally nothing new to show for it, I'm seriously considering cutting the cord to my cable provider. Has anyone else out there had much luck with this? I don't watch a ton of TV, but the stuff I do watch I like having at my fingertips. I don't need the phone beyond my alarm system, and I watch far more movies than I do anything on cable...but there are some shows. Help?

These are the same people that think setting a pet on fire is "hilarious". Every generation looks at the one coming up and wonders if they were this bad...but I'm sure of this as I am anything else in my life - the generations coming after mine are a thing of horror. I'm sure that doesn't apply to all of them, but this sort of thing just didn't seem to happen as often 20 years ago, did it?

Heh, funny - you have come to the future, and I've gone back to the past. I worked with a friend who did home theater work, so I had him over for dinner and we cabled the entire house with hardlines. The only time I'm on wireless is when I'm on my laptop or my phone. Hell, my entertainment center has 12 drops just behind it ready to go to keep all of my equipment connected to the tubes - they are addicted as I am.

Nice one Autistic Angel. The funny thing about all of this (if there is a funny) is that it reminds me of dealing with children. "If you clean your room, I'll give you a toy" didn't work, so we've gone the other direction - "If you don't clean your room, I'll take away your toy". I'm not sure why we think that either one will work, or why we have to 'make a deal with ourselves' to get adults to engage one another in an adult way. Maybe it's rose colored glasses, but were politics like this when we were all young? It just seems like politicians lately have taken to even more childish behavior than ever before. Folding their arms and refusing to play, playing the silent game, or just not even showing up is all somehow acceptable behavior. Mystery abounds....

Whoa, wait, what? I missed this thread. Yes, I'm 100% in for this. I *loved* the previous DX title.
Adam Jensen may have "not wanted this" but I damned sure did! Now they need to reboot Legacy of Kain / Soul Reaver.

My mom had her hip replaced so we got her a powerchair (the kind that helps you sit up). The manager said we should put in for their midnight giveaway. We did, knowing we'd never win. Well...we won. We got a $5000 dollar Tempurpedic cooling bed (kinda awesome here in AZ) that we also gave to my mom. Free bed FTW.

The headshake on one of those Aliens immediately made me say "Hurrrr Derrrr....I'm an Alien...herrrr" so I'm guessing that's a no. Seriously though - I'd be good with an RPG. Obsidian can write the story and somebody else can code it - those dudes can't debug for shit.

I don't want to turn this into some sort of ad for the company considering it's owned by my employer Go Daddy, but take a look at http://www.outright.com It's free and makes doing my taxes infinitely more simple. Single click for printing my tax forms makes my trip to HR Block to do my taxes soooooo much shorter.

My favorite bit from Rubio's response: More government isn’t going to help you get ahead. It’s going to hold you back. More government isn’t going to create more opportunities. It’s going to limit them. I believe in federal financial aid. I couldn’t have gone to college without it. Um. I think my favorite part of his speech was the incessant drymouth lip smacking. Sure, it's shallow and I missed the point, but I doubt I'm alone.

By all means help someone out, but I'm pretty sure you could crowd source this. Have 60 people take 100 items?
Maybe that would be too risky to give that many folks access...?
I would love to do that, but yea, it's a lot of access to grant. We might be able to restrict it, but I thought this might be a better way to give back to the community rather than giving it to somebody random on CL. I also don't want to manage 60 people. I would be fine with 5, 10, maybe.

i have a friend out of work who could probably do this. Do they have to be a forum member and will they need constant internet access?
Yep, you'll be editing things on GT, so you'd need constant access. Make him sign up for the forums and contribute! (but no, you don't have to be a member - just somebody I can trust, in this case, by proxy)

I have a very simple rote and repeatable copy/paste items that need to be done. About 6000 of them. I'm willing to hire somebody for a month or two to do this for me. I know some of you are hurting for work, and I'd like to put some money in your pocket. It'd help you out, and it'd save me a bunch of time that I could be spent writing. Hit me up directly if you need the work and have the time. This project MUST be completed within the next 60 days. That works out to repairing 100 items (each taking about 1-2 minutes of time each) per day for the next 60 days. burke [at] gamingtrend.com or gamingtrend [at] gmail.com Thanks, all.

I figured I'd be playing Colonial Marines. So much for that. I hit up my martial arts class and got some good work in yesterday, today is lifting and grocery shopping. My life is dull folks.

The author's name is still there on my screen, just above the social media sharing buttons.
Oh, weird: I just hit Refresh and it popped up. It really just said "By...." before. This reminds me of the 9.2 IGN gave Master of Orion 3. Of course, the difference is that MOO3 was a 4X strategy game whose miserable design failings could masquerade as sophistication. It was an incomprehensible mess, but if you didn't want to seem dumb you might pretend to really love it. This is a *shooter.* The basic elements of being a shooter don't work. It's only a few hours long. Seriously, now: how could a reviewer possibly miss the mark this badly? -Autistic Angel I can answer that: 1.) Got the game mere hours before the embargo date. 2.) Used the back of the box and previous previews as the base for the review 3.) Screenshots rather than playing the game. I'm not saying those things happened in this case, but I've certainly seen it happen on other sites.

Hmmm...have a few items I think.
1.) Passing my Master's test to get my 4th degree in Tang Soo Do. I have one in Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu as well, but it didn't mean as much to me as the one in TSD. 2.) This website. We've been doing this for over a decade. I've met so many people in the industry including Garriott, Molyneux, Itagaki, the entire Bioware team, the God of War team, etc. etc. etc. I could fill this page to capacity with just the people in this industry that I've gotten to meet. It's kinda awesome. Getting to meet a few of you was pretty awesome too! 3.) Served my country with honor and came out alive.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: SimCity beta opens soon
|

I don't know about you guys but one of the fun aspects for me in a SimCity is the transportation. Being able to create a city where my Sims can get around with out major bottlenecks on every block. As I watch this game near its final development almost every Video, pic and promotion shows a major city in a small space with Major Gridlock on every corner. How is this practical if emergency units will need to get from point a to b in a set time to fight crime, out fire, save lives. when there is noting but cars from light to light not going any where? Not to mention cities have outside Sims pouring into the already cramped city. There is no way a city will function if what your showing us is practical game play city. In the beta I tried to avoid building city blocks as much as possible to avoid this and focused on long roads with as little intersections as possible to avoid this mas buildup of cars. Which I must add is not my idea of an actual city planed. I trust Maxis will fix this issue, maybe limit the traffic pouring into the city and\or add a micro management for stop light to move a stretch of road at a time to get the city moving.
I suspect it's going to be a lot of retrenching in your city - pulling up mid-sized roads and putting in the huge 4 lane bastards. I hope you are right though - I'm not looking to build a freeway in every city street, I'd rather..you know....build a city.

So Viglink is just a way for us to generate a little revenue to pay the bills. That's correct. It's not nefarious or anything like that - it simply says "Oh, hey, you are talking about Dead Space 3 - I'm gonna link that to Amazon so if anyone wants to pre-order it, GT gets a small cut".
If you could take a picture of how prevalent this is for you I'd appreciate it, because from my experience it's somewhat rare. (And obviously I'm not blocking my own site since that's cutting off my own revenue stream) I stopped asking folks for donations, so I've gotta try to pay the bills somehow, no?

Wizardry Online is the most hardcore fantasy MMO ever created. That's what it says on their website yet not one person is talking about it. Is this game going to be an epic fail? I actually had a beta invite I totally forgot about Well, you can be PvP killed anywhere and the death is permanent. If that's your thing, then uh...well there ya go.
