161  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Suggestions for a great mattress on: February 04, 2014, 04:33:23 AM
We have a tempurpedic bed with a topper.  It was 5k when it was new.  It's miserably hot during the summer here in Phx, and this tempurpedic material doesn't help with that.  If you go with a tempurpedic, get one with the cooling tech in it and some cooling sheets.

On the topic of the pricing thing - we got a mattress from one of those "random mattress R Us" in a shopping mall places for our spare room.  They had a king sized 500 dollar mattress for 200 bucks, including frame.  Why?  It got rubbed against during shipping and the logo was a little roughed up.  Entirely cosmetic and covered by a sheet.

So tomorrow you'll see (very obviously) that we have landed a contract with Wargaming.  They are trying out GT as an ad opportunity.  I'm not soliciting you guys to do anything you normally wouldn't, but I am asking you guys to take a look at their product.  It's obviously a big step for us, and I do want to show them that this awesome community is worth supporting long-term.  Even if it's a click and a look around (or better yet trying out the free-to-play game) that'd be solid of you.   Thanks for helping us support GT.  We've got big things in store for GT, and this is the start of funding those projects.   High five!

Full retail disc-based and in the plastic.   icon_confused

So we have opened up an arcade at Gaming Trend.   If you hit the front page you'll see in the nav bar three flash games.  Not to worry - we aren't turning into Kongregate (though I'd love their traffic revenues!).  We will only put games in the arcade that we find to be fun - GT Tested and Approved!    Take em for a spin and let us know what you think of them.  If you have any trouble with them, let us know that too so we can tweak it.   Have fun!

I followed everything you said, but GPOs are not my specialty that's for sure.  You might try this though:

From admin on the box that's misbehaving:

Gpupdate /force
Gpresult /r /scope:computer |more

If memory serves that will force the update locally and for all users, and give you feedback to see if it worked.

I felt like I was playing a TES game with the occasionally poorly-named NPC running by every once in a while.   I think I'm in on this one - it felt much better this go around, and it was far more stable to boot.  My biggest complaint was the interface for crafting as it's not just unintuitive but counter-intuitive.   They have time to fix that though, and hopefully some of my feedback helps.

On the subscription front, I don't bat an eye at 15 a month when there is this much content.  The Free to Play model seems to attract the absolute WORST players, and I'd rather avoid them altogether.

On the "why isn't the client free" side of things, I wouldn't expect them to give away years of programming time.  If you believe what they've done is worthwhile, you pony up to experience it, otherwise we are back to that f2p model.  Free to Play has become nuisance-ware.  Want a bank slot?  Money.  Want to be able to have more than pocket change?  Money?  And the worst of them - want to rearrange your interface in SWTOR?  Money.  I'd rather pay a subscription so the devs can create more content than have them nag me for nickels and dimes until I quit out of frustration.  Am I alone on this?

That's how I prefer to watch TV. Following a show in "real time" seems so...slooowwwwwww...especially when they do those half-season breaks that seem to be common now. The only downside is that we often blow through a show's 3- or 4-season run in just a few months.

We're watching Buffy this way right now and are already near the end of S3. Will probably start Angel and alternate those disks with Buffy to stretch them both out (the two series aired contemporaneously starting in 1999 or 2000, right?). Other shows that we blew through were ST:DS9, Eureka, Babylon 5, BSG, Firefly, and Farscape. We've pretty much run out of great sf shows.

What's worst is catching up with a show by binging on its first few seasons on disk and then having to follow the rest of it in real time, as we did with Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Lost.

The only show I watch in real time is Game of Thrones.  (lol, I typed in realm time and corrected it just now)    I just can't get enough of that show.  Now THAT's a long wait between seasons!
183  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Binge TV watching on: January 12, 2014, 11:01:28 PM
I see the news that Boardwalk Empire is over.   Nikita ended in December.  24 is off the air.  Arrested Development is done.   Does anyone else typically wait until a show is done and over before binging on all of them right in a row, or is it just the wife and I?   I imagine it hurts the whole ad revenue thing, but I bet that a great many people also do this.  I wonder if content makers bear this in mind?

IMHO, ever since Richard Garriott got back into the limelight with his new not-Ultima game the prices of everything have gone up.

So yeah, this is going to get expensive for you and quick. I'd just stick with the GoG releases unless you really, really want to get everything physical they came with back in the day.

Hmm. Makes me wonder if I have anything though...

I have completed every Ultima game multiple times (I have them all on the 1-9 CD that came from EA back in the day) - it's the physical goodies I want.   I'll lay out everything I have and figure out everything I'm missing to show you guys.

And yea, before March since I'll be speaking on a panel with him. Might ask for a signature or 9 while I'm at it.  smile

If there is serious interest, I'll spin up a community-editable calendar that we could maintain together.   I just know that I don't have time to do it myself and write awesome content too.  smile

Just having the calendar would be a start.  how would the content be updated?  per day, per title or uploaded?

Probably the easiest would be to put together a Google calendar, give folks access, and add games to the Tuesdays and Sundays (thanks Nintendo!).   What do you think?

Ultima II: Revenge of the Enchantress (not quite complete) - $34 and climbing...or

Ultima II: Revenge of the Enchantress - 279.99, still in the shrinkwrap

Ultima Martian Dreams Complete - $99.99

Haven't since the big redesign back in 2011. We've wanted to bring it back, but it hasn't really been a high priority and it's so hard to maintain. You are the first person to mention it since it went away, if that gives you any idea of why we pushed it down the priority list...

I liked it too Soulchilde, and I wouldn't be abject to bringing it back, but if we did it'd have to be community run.  Everyone pitches in and keeps it updated kinda thing.  It's very time consuming for one or two people.

Starting a weightloss challenge at work tomorrow.

Already lost 6 lbs. Fasting x2 a week (24 hour H2O + lemon juice cleansing cycle).

Also trying to stick to paleo foods. May go for the 2-400 cal. x7 meals throughout the day. Already having a cup of cottage cheese as my last snack (casein protein to carry me through cleansing periods and nighttimes).

I'm 254 right now. FWIW I hit a milestone in the gym three weeks ago. 5 reps of 350lbs on bench. (to just better than 90deg - I've injured my shoulder in the past, so I don't force it).

I can now swing and change direction on monkey bars. Max is 54 rungs. Problem is, the TRX system at the Y has bars that are too narrow by about an 1/8 - 1/4 inch so I end up getting blisters. Gloves don't help.

The TRX system is that hateful system with the straps too, right?  I damned near killed myself on this exercise:
