I think it's an indexing problem.  Adding or deleting may or may not help.  Might not do anything at all.  Can't hurt though - give it a try.   smile

Replaying StarCraft 2:Wings of Liberty's story mode to refresh my memory before starting StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm.

I enjoyed HOTS far more than Wings of Liberty.  Just talking about it makes me kinda wanna play it again.  (and that, kids, is how backlogs are born!)

Guess not.  I'm seeing issues where some threads (i.e. the Steam Deals thread) aren't working correctly.  You'll click on page 94 and it takes you to...hell, I don't even know.  I know which database table to repair but it is huge...trying to research how to do that safely.    Stand by.   New threads shouldn't be affected at all, and it seems that *most* threads are working as intended.   icon_evil

Lately it's been salad.  Lots and lots of salad.  Still working out hard to lose weight, so it's been easier said than done.  I guess what I'm saying is that I'm kinda tired of salad.  hehe

Whew!  now that the forums are back up....Sniper Elite III and, of all things, KOTOR 2.  Turns out I never finished it.   Gonna rectify that problem.

I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying Sniper Elite III.  Never played the other ones, but there is something satisfying about scoring a headshot from clear across the map....

As far as comments on the Gaming Trend news/video items, can we use our GT forum accounts to login there? Or does it have to be a separate login we set up for comments-only?

Separate for now, but hoping to unify that this year.

While that's a nice offer, be careful about making this type of representation. They have ways of making your life financially and personally miserable if you refuse a legitimate court order.

Not just an offer.  I'd burn the place to the ground first.  Additionally, Gaming Trend will be an LLC shortly, so I wouldn't be doing anything...I just work here.  Businesses are people now, so they can just talk to the Gaming Trend.  slywink

So through a bizarre confluence of events, I'll be traveling from Phoenix to LA for E3 alone.  Flight prices have skyrocketed because reasons, so I'm stuck driving.   I need some cool travel music.   You all know I'm a huge Rush fan, but I'm also a big fan of EDM.  DJ Hero and the sequel were awesome for me.  I'd love to get your recommendations for some tracks that I might enjoy.  I've got hours to fill, so it doesn't necessarily have to fall on those categories.   Hit me with some tunes!

It's both a blessing and a curse. One has to wonder if the Internet will work the same way in, say, 20 years.

The way our government is allying (or forcing) companies to cooperate with shady investigations, I see a cyberwar the likes of which we've never seen on the horizon.  Personal privacy and digital privacy are converging, and neither of them are safe.

So several of you have approached me to "clean up your online persona" or various deviations from that statement.  Let me explain how the Internet works.  Once you say something, it's said.  Like, forever.  Google indexes this site, sure, but it also caches everything.  I can still find stuff from and that's long since passed into the realm of spammers and cybersquatters.  Deleting posts from the forums makes literally not one iota of good.  Not even a little.  There is no such thing as 'cleaning up'.  I've been in the Internet Provider industry for approaching 20 years, so trust me on this one guys.   Believe me, I'd love to help you, but the only thing I can offer is a shield.  If I'm approached to release information on you or anything said on this site, I'll refuse.  No information will pass from this site to any agency.  The only information available here is available to the public; the information you've already posted.

It mortifies me the things I hear people teach their kids nowadays.   Harpua is right on needing a reset, but man...what if these people had no moral compass to begin with?  I've heard more racism since Obama got elected even from within my own extended family.  I heard the "stop the takers" horseshit from my own father in law.  His daughter?  Disabled by a goddamned moron who hit her stopped car while driving WAY past the speed limit.  She gets disability because she'll likely never work again.  At one point in our life it was the only thing that kept the lights on after we had cut literally everything else out of our budget. When we start citing specifics he said "we shouldn't make it personal".   How the hell are these things not personal?    If somebody gets cancer and goes through an entire battery of treatments and gets handed a $98,000 bill how is that not a devistating life event?  Why shouldn't they have insurance?  How are they "takers" for not wanting something out of their control to not destroy their family?  Politics absolutely disgust me over the last 15 years.  Corporations as people +  "People" now suddenly able to give unlimited amounts to campaigns = candidates bought and paid for in the open.   Horrible...

I like Hannibal - it's keeping me very engaged, and I can't say that about most television.     This season hasn't been great for TV for me though.  Believe and The 100 had me tuned out pretty quickly and both are looking at possible cancellation.  Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is great and I'm really hoping that one sticks around.  The wife has Once Upon a Time (and was sad when Once Upon a Time in Wonderland got cancelled) and Vampire Diaries in the TiVo.  We both love Arrow, and are finally caught up (we fell a little behind).  We are both junkies for Hell's Kitchen as well.  Beyond that?  Netflix and Amazon Prime FTW.  We are watching 24.  Just finished Season 4 last night.  Turns out we are 1.) out of time and 2.) this show is about answering the phone.

Quite true. I've noticed more and more sites giving up on forums (perhaps they just don't want to mess w/ moderation issues) in favor of Twitter, Facebook et al.

With me, I really try to keep my Gaming self and, uh, Regular Guy self separate on Facebook. I just don't post about gaming on Facebook because I think too many of my non-gamer pals think gaming is the Evil.  icon_razz If I say, posted on Facebook that pixelized explosions of blood spray and gore in Broforce tickle me... I don't think they'd understand. Here, I think people would.  icon_cool

I like sifting through Twitter for interesting posts but haven't so far been willing to Tweet. Perhaps if I can just get a Twitter going as my Blackjack self and focus it that way, it might be fun.

As far as comments on the Gaming Trend news/video items, can we use our GT forum accounts to login there? Or does it have to be a separate login we set up for comments-only?

The new system we are working on will be a unified login, other than Youtube.  Youtube is it's own beast - you need your own login for that to comment.

I'm interested to know - when do you guys buy your games?   With multiplayer it's always tough to wait due to forum effect or the fact that multi dies after a while.  Are you folks bleeding edge day 1 preorder junkies like me, or do you wait a while and overturn the cheap bin?
195  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Almost Human = cancelled on: April 30, 2014, 05:01:13 PM

Damn it Fox.  Why do you kill everything I love?!  It ONLY had 5.6 MILLION viewers.  Obviously we need to cancel that and replace it with some other shit-tastic realty or singing show....
196  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: First CK, now MO? on: April 30, 2014, 04:51:19 PM
So I'll even say that I've been posting less here.  I've been so focused on building the front page content that I've neglected the boards.   You guys hit on a good point though - boards are starting to become an antique of sorts.   Newer generations of gamers eschew them completely (or don't know what the hell the word eschew means) in favor of things like Twitter.  Often they have a "if it ain't on my phone, it ain't worth seeing" sort of attitude.  As a result, other areas of the site are growing while the forums (despite the feeling) is pretty much steady on traffic.    Put simply, we have roughly 130,000 unique people hitting GT every month, but they are spending their time at our YouTube channel (just cleared half a million views on that), get their news from our Twitter and Facebook feeds, and read our editorials on the front page.   If I could figure out a way to get them in here I would.

All of that said, we are looking at folding the whole thing together and unifying the front page with the forums.  Comments on the front page would also appear in the forums, and visa versa.  It'd unify the conversation, and engage new blood that otherwise would avoid a forum.  We are also in the process of hiring somebody to tackle news on a very frequent basis.  We want to become your go-to place for gaming news in addition to reviews and such.  Step outside the forums - we've got really cool stuff going on elsewhere on this same site!

I sell things here and there on Amazon.  I've only run into one issue.  The differences between Amazon and EBay is that on Amazon my item sells within hours, sometimes minutes.  On eBay it can sit forever.  Risk of doing business?

Will do.  Ubi does a solid job with their PC ports.  The question will be how intrusive is the UPlay part of it.   From what I've heard it's "check once on launch" and then it goes away.  We'll see....
