15641  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Tribes Vengeance on: November 06, 2004, 01:42:44 AM
Looks like the dedicated server will be a little more difficult than I thought to set up behind my firewall/ router.  Tomorrow for sure though....
15642  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Paladin Talents Sneak Peek on: November 05, 2004, 11:55:54 PM

15644  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Tribes Vengeance on: November 05, 2004, 06:41:08 PM
Last night I was standing victorious with 39 kills 4 deaths and 19 flag caps on one map.  I'm looking forward to some game time....

And I suppose I could send you a nice round spinfuser...its like a pizza, except for the plasma and the burning...and the explosion.
15645  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Tribes Vengeance on: November 05, 2004, 05:58:39 PM
Well, regardless of whether EA bites or not I'll set it up tonight.  I'll post the server info in here and on the front page when the server is up and tested.

Or because Ron typically doesn't see why we segregate titles that are released from those that are not, but opened Road to Gold because you guys asked me to.  slywink
15647  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Tribes Vengeance on: November 04, 2004, 01:15:33 PM
Ok, I got the game last night and played a bit.  Seems I'm a little rusty but I was still getting 4 kills per 1 death on average.  I'm going to try to do a cross-promotion Fight Night with Evil Avatar, see if we can get some of those guys in.  Stay tuned....

15650  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / The Propriety of Advertising Pimps Lord on: November 03, 2004, 03:29:53 AM
Apparently our readership was not interested in the game.  Despite our fantastic number of readers and repeat visitors, very few clicked through on Pimpslord.  It will fade from view shortly....

You know, for one handed websurfing.

Somehow I think this gets a disproportionate amount of use from non-handicapped people....

15657  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Hands-On Preview on: November 02, 2004, 01:10:49 PM
Well, I played in the hub I was in for two and a half hours and ended up walking past a lot of shops and skipping a lot of side quests to really try to get a taste of the overall game.  There is a lot going on in these areas.  Yea, there is some back and forth, but thats RPGs for ya.
15658  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Hands-On Preview on: November 01, 2004, 07:06:34 PM
It won't be until people actually start playing it that we find out about bugs.

Players will figure out new and interesting ways of exploiting and otherwise breaking the system...its always been that way. smile
15659  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Hands-On Preview on: November 01, 2004, 07:04:50 PM
How fast twitch is it? I suck at FPS.

It really isn't bad.  Your health doesn't fly down really fast and neither does theirs so it isn't click-click dead if you aren't paying attention.  (might be so with bosses though, I dunno)

When the npcs speak, is it voice only or is there readable text?

You have an option to turn on txt for their speech.

Is there a dvd version available?

Nope, its looking like 3-4 CDs on release for the game.

Is there a heavy emphasis on puzzles?

Didn't see a heavy emphasis on puzzles as much as interactions.  Dealing with the right people and how you deal with them seemed to be more the focus.

Is there an auto map system, or waypoints?

We only got to play in one hub, but at the bus stations there are city maps like the ones you might see in a mall.  As far as 'waypoints' its not set up so much like that.  You start off in the one hub but as you get reason to visit other hubs you can go there as well.  I was pretty leash-free to explore anywhere I wanted though...

BTW, RPGdot mentioned you.

Cool!  Thanks for the heads up.

I didn't read after the spoiler warning. Did you encounter any bugs or issues you thought might be bugs?
I ran into one graphical glitch with two guys playing cards where the card seemed to get stuck a few inches off the table.  Its really all I saw...
15663  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Hands-On Preview on: October 29, 2004, 06:45:50 PM
Loren is dead on on this.  This is a must have day 1 purchase for me.  This trip only solidified that.

As for Troika and the bugs, I talked with them at great length about this and they assure me that they have taken great lengths to make sure that did not happen here.  The delay after delay of Half Life 2 also gave them extra time to provide extra polish.  The removal of multiplayer also allows them to reign in the scope and focus a bit.

I can't say what happened with Arcanum, but publishers DO have to pay for those patches, so might have been one of those 'you'll pay or we aren't coding it' kinda scenarios?  I dunno....
15664  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Hands-On Preview on: October 29, 2004, 04:49:52 PM
Le date de release?

Official date is going to be announced 'soon' but the game is absolutely going to hit in November.
15665  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Hands-On Preview on: October 29, 2004, 04:48:44 PM
Did you really get a feeling that the choices you made had a long term impact on later events? Or were most of the choices only in the short term with the story basically on a rail?

Ahhh, one of my big concerns.  Yes.  Stuff you do has a short, medium and long term effect.  It might not always be immediately apparent but there are always machinations in the background.  Sometimes you'll see it manifest in more choices, new contacts, or new quests.  Sometimes it'll determine who helps you later or looks to hurt you later.  That kinda thing
15666  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Hands-On Preview on: October 29, 2004, 04:34:17 PM
40 - 80 hrs of gameplay?

Yea, and that is for the QA team that already knew what to do and where to go!  I'm wired....

How were the combat animations?
Very well handled.  The ragdoll physics are very much alive here as I clawed a bouncer through a plate-glass window.   Its very well done.  The FACIAL animations however are beyond
15667  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Hands-On Preview on: October 29, 2004, 04:32:44 PM
Can you be good? Or at least good for a vampire? I mean no unnessecary killing of humans, only kill evil vamires etc.?
Yes!  And if you intend on controlling your frenzy you will need to be careful of that.  If you feed a human to death you lose a point of humanity making it easier for you to frenzy.  Outside of that, you can also seduce humans or just in general be nice to them.  If you have ever played an RPG like Baldur's Gate or Arcanum you'll get the idea, there are a ton of options, often with a neutral, good, evil, and a few special options if your skills are set up correctly.  The fun begins if you are Malkavian as your chat options

15672  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / CG out of bandwidth? on: October 27, 2004, 04:33:44 AM
Well, its interesting you ask.  It is true, the rapid influx of traffic pushed us over the edge of our current bandwidth plan and we were forced to upgrade.  Granted, my host isn't the speediest on customer service, so you weren't supposed to see that, but it does reveal just how much bandwidth is being used.  I'll just say that its north of 50GB and 10 million hits monthly...

15677  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines on: October 24, 2004, 04:11:12 PM
Does the release date of Half Life 2 affect the proposed release date of Vampire: Bloodlines? Can we realistically expect it this year?
Yes, it does.  They are contractually obligated to release after HL2, so I'd expect it this year, but not until after November 16th. (I'm thinking November 23rd as a guess but it could be as early as the '24 hours after' rumor that I also heard)
15678  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EQ2 bumped to a Nov 8th release? on: October 24, 2004, 03:04:46 AM
EQ2 isn't hardcore, its rooted in tedium and 'grinding'.  I don't want to have to sit for hours and shout "SOMEBODY PLEASE PLAY WITH ME!!!" to get a group or grind for hours and hours and hours and hours to get the 467 items needed to take the 1 shot at fabricating the one uber item that could break during production.  Convince me how that is fun.  EQ2 is EQ1 with a paintjob.   Having played both of them for quite a while and being far more focused on GAMEPLAY than 'beautiful vistas' WoW is certainly the better of the two titles.

You want to play on YOUR terms instead of having to plan out your time?  Pick WoW.  You want to see beautiful graphics that will only run smoothly on an x800 (seriously, you can't max it on a 9600 pro or a 9700 pro or even an x800 pro without serious framerate issues with more than 1 character on screen) then go with EQ2.

You want player housing?  WoW.
You want breaking items?  EQ2.
You want quests that aren't all FEDEX? WoW.
You want to get penalized when your friends die?  EQ2.
You want mounts between towns...oh wait, EQ2 just stole that from WoW at the last second.
You want your opinion to count?  WoW

Take a look at Sony's track record with EQ1 and all the problems with the way that the game has been managed.  Look at all the 'features' that should have been free that have been sold as seperate addons.  (what are we up to, 9 now?)  Look at the disaster that is Galaxies?  You want more of that?  They have a saying here in Arizona....I think they have it over there at Sony can fool me once, shame on me....fool me can't get fooled again!
15679  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / exploring in WoW & EQ2 on: October 24, 2004, 02:53:49 AM
Both titles aren't geared (at least based on what I've seen) for long, drawn out dungeon crawls.
There are MOST ABSOLUTELY larger dungeons that do not have exits nearby (discounting the use of the hearthstone that can warp you back home 1x per hour) but they are a bit higher in level.  There are some dungeons that, if you aren't horribly over-leveled for the area, might take upwards of two hours to complete.  That's about right I think....
