15521  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Goldeneye: Rogue Agent (Can you say "ouch"?) on: November 29, 2004, 07:54:36 PM
Hey, I enjoyed the hell out of Burnout3.  I loved Burnout2 so I knew what I was getting into.  The computer cheating?  Yea, knew that going in.  Is that EA's fault?  Nope...they didn't put in one bit of code.
15522  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Pirates! - A few thoughts... on: November 29, 2004, 07:13:34 PM
It could be that I still play Pirates! to this day but I found that I could devistate a Spanish War galleon with a Sloop.  Maybe the difficulty level will rise as I play but it didn't take long before I was the top dog on the pirateyness list and I had purchased most items twice.

"Hey, I've got this great spyglass to sell you!"
"Is it like the one on my hip here?"
"Yes!  Exactly like that!"
"Will it actually do anything different than when I didn't have it?"
"No!  Its the same!"
"Here, take my money good sir!  I'm a sucker for an overpriced duplicate bargain!"
"Yarrr chaching!"
"Off to my dancing lessons!"
"Oh I got boots for that!"
"There's no help for me good sir....Pirates don't dance."
"Yarrrr, especially with the wood leg"
15523  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / How have CG's forums changed since the flood of GG refugees? on: November 29, 2004, 03:06:19 PM
I have to admit that I was a bit worried there for a while, but good discussion among managers and mods and the community at large kept the oars in the water.  I'm happy with how things turned out.

As far as how things changed, we do have a bit more traffic than before, but I don't think our core has changed much.  We had a solid community of people interested in gaming and I think we still have that.

That said, I'm happy that we are now covering PC - there were just too many great games that we were not covering because of our console-only focus.  I'm happy to be covering great titles like WoW, EQII, Vampire, HL2, etc. as well as the smaller nitche titles that some folks won't necessarily pick up like CSI and Sherlock Holmes.  As we move forward and integrate PC a bit better I think the focus will re-adjust and blend so its more even, but that'll take time.  I love watching this site grow...
15524  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / why does it take hours for private messages to be delivered? on: November 29, 2004, 02:55:27 PM
Hmmm, I'll look into this.  I've not noticed any latency but that doesn't mean its not there.  Keep me posted if you see any other fluctuations.

Hahaahaha.  The best part is, the guy across from me at work is trying to get me in on some free ipod 'deal' as I read this.

15528  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Can we get more focused reviews on small-to-mid sized games? on: November 26, 2004, 01:50:54 PM
I fully understand - not to worry, the lamda won't be up there long.  We have a whole host of new reviews upcoming that will take its place. smile

15530  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW - Server Choice on: November 25, 2004, 11:02:48 PM
We have 80 people thus far in the guild roster of The Lost Order of Akalabeth.  Don't know if you guys are interested, but suffice to say there is always somebody on.  I don't want for gear, enchantments, or anything else - our guild takes care of its own.
15531  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Can we get more focused reviews on small-to-mid sized games? on: November 25, 2004, 07:27:38 PM
Specifically what small to mid-sized titles have we missed?  We didn't rush to press with our 'blockbuster' titles like Halo 2, or Killzone, so I don't know that we fit in the 'me too!' demographic.  I know we have some titles coming up like Bust a Move, Spyro, Tron, etc.  Would those more fit the bill?
15532  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Great Vampires: Bloodlines forum on: November 24, 2004, 06:17:03 PM
My only complaint with that site is that they condone a lot of chat about piracy.  That has always bugged me, but its not my show so I don't control the curtains. smile

The cool thing about using this engine is that is is VERY moddable, so I fully expect that we'll see the Vampire community take this game to the next level as soon as they stop playing it long enough to work on it. slywink
15533  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Anyone into hacker games? on: November 24, 2004, 05:57:54 PM
I routinely play through Neuromancer and both flavors of Shadowrun once a year.  I love hacker games, just wish somebody'd do something decent with em.

I'm onboard for this.  The folks at Bioware tell me that they had their hands in the mix the whole time, so I'm less nervous.

Hahhhaa.  Well, I can't turn em all off or we simply defeat the purpose, but I'll try to keep them as tasteful as possible.  On the other hand, name one other site that is willing to remove ads for you. smile

I'm not a fanboy, I'll tell you if something is broken - When I logged on last night I had zero lag and zero queue time.  Its not a canned response, its just the truth.  *shrug*  Am I being an ass?
15540  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WOW Buzz. on: November 24, 2004, 01:31:51 PM
The first thing I did when I got into the newbie area was leave it.  smile  I know that all I had to do was complete one quest to get my warlock pet and I could take on level 4 critters, so I could leave the Undead newb town.
15541  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WOW Buzz. on: November 24, 2004, 01:19:30 PM
I logged onto the Lothar server and made my character and leveled him to level 5 without issue.  No queue, no problems.   The population is listed as 'low' when I was playing as well....the division of the servers seems to be evening out.  Hopefully Tim will get a clue and join us. smile

ads are good.  flashing "winner" ads are bad.

I'll see if we can replace it with something more tasteful, same thing with the roach ad.

I guess I'd also hate to see a 'pissing' match, hard feelings, or users here split up into different groups when all most of us want is one good group to play with. I couldn't care less what is official or not. Most people on these boards seem pretty mature, which is why I imagine most of us want to play together.

You got it!  That's all I'm looking to do.  I just want to get the crew together for runs into VC and smash and grabs on those cute little snacks us undead call "Gnomes".  smile

15547  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / MMORPG Question on: November 23, 2004, 07:29:39 PM
Here is some insight:  I can run this site, manage her staff, and play WoW while working full time and going to school full time.  I'd say it fits nicely into the small nooks and crannies of limited time constraints.
15548  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Summary of WoW Guild Info? on: November 23, 2004, 07:27:22 PM
I belong to a massive guild called The Lost Order of Akalabeth that dates back to the pre UO days. We play pretty much everything and have hundreds of active members. (http://www.lostorder.com)  We'll be playing on the LOTHAR server and I'm hoping that regardless of the formation of any other guilds they will to.  All cards on the table, official and unofficial don't mean squat to me, I just want the community to well...commune and work together and have fun. smile
15549  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Are you interested in an official CG WoW Guild? on: November 23, 2004, 07:23:26 PM
I simply go by the will of the readers.  I'll be doing my own thing with my guild, I just was offering to set up something affiliated with the site as that was what was requested of me.  This won't be turning into a pissing match, so lets not go down that road, k? smile
15550  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Are you interested in an official CG WoW Guild? on: November 23, 2004, 04:25:36 PM
I'm not looking to undo his work.  I'm just saying that I've got a lot more than 15-20 messages in my box that want something official.
15551  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Are you interested in an official CG WoW Guild? on: November 23, 2004, 04:13:17 PM
Some folks have expressed an interest in an official CG guild.  While I'm a member of a far larger guild I'd be willing to make an official guild if there is a lot of desire for something official.  I'm not looking to step on anyone's toes here, but the requests are a bit more overwhelming than I anticipated.

15558  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [CG] Ad Banners on: November 23, 2004, 03:46:39 AM
I'm working on those as well Tebunker.  If I could get a steady stream of those I'd go games-only and never look back.  Its hard to put us and Penny Arcade in the same boat though. smile

I'll look into the scrolling to the side thing, those ads shouldn't have broken that.  As for donating to the site, I've got a paypal account setup with the email address [email protected] for that sort of thing if you are inclined.  smile
15559  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [CG] Ad Banners on: November 23, 2004, 01:54:05 AM
Well, I'm also trying to keep the deceptive ads away.  I honest don't think I'm the #857336'th visitor to this site, nor do I think I've won.  I also think that you guys are savvy enough to know that it is a function of profitability and nothing more.

We aren't in any danger at this point, just would be nice to not have to run CG entirely out of the lint in the bottom of my pockets and instead be able to get some cash flow to buy upgrades and such for the place.
15560  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [CG] Ad Banners on: November 23, 2004, 12:38:46 AM
In an effort to reduce our costs and grow our site we are trying a new ad agency.  The ads are not generally game related per se but they might just pay the bills.  I'd like your feedback and would appreciate your patience.  Be honest but constructive please.  If there is an ad (and don't say all of them) that is particularly bothersome (flashing, etc) please let me know.
