15521  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Hands-On Preview on: October 29, 2004, 04:34:17 PM
40 - 80 hrs of gameplay?

Yea, and that is for the QA team that already knew what to do and where to go!  I'm wired....

How were the combat animations?
Very well handled.  The ragdoll physics are very much alive here as I clawed a bouncer through a plate-glass window.   Its very well done.  The FACIAL animations however are beyond
15522  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Hands-On Preview on: October 29, 2004, 04:32:44 PM
Can you be good? Or at least good for a vampire? I mean no unnessecary killing of humans, only kill evil vamires etc.?
Yes!  And if you intend on controlling your frenzy you will need to be careful of that.  If you feed a human to death you lose a point of humanity making it easier for you to frenzy.  Outside of that, you can also seduce humans or just in general be nice to them.  If you have ever played an RPG like Baldur's Gate or Arcanum you'll get the idea, there are a ton of options, often with a neutral, good, evil, and a few special options if your skills are set up correctly.  The fun begins if you are Malkavian as your chat options

15527  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / CG out of bandwidth? on: October 27, 2004, 04:33:44 AM
Well, its interesting you ask.  It is true, the rapid influx of traffic pushed us over the edge of our current bandwidth plan and we were forced to upgrade.  Granted, my host isn't the speediest on customer service, so you weren't supposed to see that, but it does reveal just how much bandwidth is being used.  I'll just say that its north of 50GB and 10 million hits monthly...

15532  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines on: October 24, 2004, 04:11:12 PM
Does the release date of Half Life 2 affect the proposed release date of Vampire: Bloodlines? Can we realistically expect it this year?
Yes, it does.  They are contractually obligated to release after HL2, so I'd expect it this year, but not until after November 16th. (I'm thinking November 23rd as a guess but it could be as early as the '24 hours after' rumor that I also heard)
15533  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EQ2 bumped to a Nov 8th release? on: October 24, 2004, 03:04:46 AM
EQ2 isn't hardcore, its rooted in tedium and 'grinding'.  I don't want to have to sit for hours and shout "SOMEBODY PLEASE PLAY WITH ME!!!" to get a group or grind for hours and hours and hours and hours to get the 467 items needed to take the 1 shot at fabricating the one uber item that could break during production.  Convince me how that is fun.  EQ2 is EQ1 with a paintjob.   Having played both of them for quite a while and being far more focused on GAMEPLAY than 'beautiful vistas' WoW is certainly the better of the two titles.

You want to play on YOUR terms instead of having to plan out your time?  Pick WoW.  You want to see beautiful graphics that will only run smoothly on an x800 (seriously, you can't max it on a 9600 pro or a 9700 pro or even an x800 pro without serious framerate issues with more than 1 character on screen) then go with EQ2.

You want player housing?  WoW.
You want breaking items?  EQ2.
You want quests that aren't all FEDEX? WoW.
You want to get penalized when your friends die?  EQ2.
You want mounts between towns...oh wait, EQ2 just stole that from WoW at the last second.
You want your opinion to count?  WoW

Take a look at Sony's track record with EQ1 and all the problems with the way that the game has been managed.  Look at all the 'features' that should have been free that have been sold as seperate addons.  (what are we up to, 9 now?)  Look at the disaster that is Galaxies?  You want more of that?  They have a saying here in Arizona....I think they have it over there at Sony can fool me once, shame on me....fool me can't get fooled again!
15534  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / exploring in WoW & EQ2 on: October 24, 2004, 02:53:49 AM
Both titles aren't geared (at least based on what I've seen) for long, drawn out dungeon crawls.
There are MOST ABSOLUTELY larger dungeons that do not have exits nearby (discounting the use of the hearthstone that can warp you back home 1x per hour) but they are a bit higher in level.  There are some dungeons that, if you aren't horribly over-leveled for the area, might take upwards of two hours to complete.  That's about right I think....

Three words:  Mobile Cell Jammer sounds like a great idea, everyone's connection dropping simultaneously as you zip on by...till you think of the very next second - 15 drivers all looking at their hands instead of the road.

I personally have gotten rid of my cell phone.  There is absolutely nothing so important that it can't wait.  This is really driven home when your boss's wife get's to hear her husband's last words through his cell phone and gets to listen to him gasping his last breaths through a punctured lung from the ensuing accident.  Puts life's little shortcuts into perspectives...I'll wait till I get there.  :/

So...if you hit the front page (You'll hear me say that a whole hell of a lot around here, so get used to that) you'll see that there are a ton of new screenshots for PC titles.  The reason being is that we are beginning the building of our PC Gold Guide in ernest.  Right now it is fairly barren but that will change quickly.  We are also posting PC news on the front can tell its PC news by the little mouse icon.  (look for a more elegant sorting option long-term)

Atlantis Evolution
Battlefield 2
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Commandos Strike Force
Half-Life 2

I'm just sayin.....stay tuned.  As we add more support for more titles and more features, its gonna get fun!
