15441  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Suikoden IV Review... on: January 14, 2005, 03:31:15 PM
Metal Gear Solid anyone?  Yea...I like running around the last hour or so holding my jiggly bits in the buff.  Stupid ending....

I did finish Suikoden III before I reviewed it, lets see how this one flows and I'll re-evaluate as I go along.
15442  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Suikoden IV Review... on: January 14, 2005, 03:16:16 PM
You have my word, I'll write up a short take after I put a few hours in.  I'm hoping to have it today. The full review will come later after I've put some serious time into the game....

I'm ok if its 3 out of 5 stars, but you can't judge that by the back of the box and 15 minutes of gameplay....

Let me take another shot at finding it, my plate is so overloaded that it was something more for the collection that I'd eventually play than anything else.  slywink
15444  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Suikoden IV Review... on: January 14, 2005, 01:53:17 PM
Hey all,

I'll be doing the review on Suikoden IV but rather than rushing something out the door as quickly as possible and giving an incomplete picture of the game, I was thinking of putting at least 40-50 hours into the game first.  That'd be roughly half from what I hear.  I'd like to hear what you think...for incredibly long RPG titles like this, what do you think about delaying reviews to ensure a  more accurate review?  Or do you think they are any more accurate if they are delayed?
15445  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Elektra - ouch.... on: January 13, 2005, 06:17:33 PM
Sweet Jesus!  Wow...that is HOOOORIBLE.  I don't know if JG's smokin' hot bod is enough to get me to even pay matinee given these scores...

What happened with this?  Did your insurance company handle it?  What are you doing about your console library?

Guess I need to hunt this down.

I shipped our copy off to a reviewer so I never got to play the original myself - I can't seem to find it anywhere either.  :/  The search continues...

Can we select people for this list?  Cuz...uh....Martin Short and Hally Barry (sp?) would be at the top of my list.
15451  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Million Dollar Baby [Movie] on: January 12, 2005, 04:27:41 AM
Wide release is the 28th of this month.  I am in Phoenix so I got to see it on one of the 9 screens it showed on this weekend.  Your friend is right...this is absolutely one of the best movies I've seen in a long long time.

I'm an animal lover, I have three dogs myself - I constantly worry about the time I spend away from them just working full time and going to school full time.  The greeting at the door should tell you that you did the right thing. smile

(oh, and I'd be a lousy corrections officer...I'd definately mishandle some prisoners)

15456  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Million Dollar Baby [Movie] on: January 10, 2005, 01:06:47 PM
Got to see an early screening of the new movie Million Dollar Baby starring Hillary Swank, Morgan Freeman, and Clint Eastwood (who also directed and scored the film).  This movie is fantastic!  If it doesn't win a metric ton of awards I'll be shocked and far one of the best movies I've seen in a long long while, hands down.

Anyone else see it?
15457  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / MechAssault2 Game impressions (WARNING - Spoilers) on: January 05, 2005, 11:04:21 PM
Sounds like you had the same experience I did Justin.  That end boss had me swearing in several languages.  The ending was just horrible and cliche'.  Bleh.

That said, maybe we can get some online time sometime soon!

That's right, it is Lil' Mermaid.  There are more things like this though, the "Sex" clouds in Lion King for instance.

15460  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Elektra on: January 05, 2005, 05:11:50 PM
Yep, and they did suck.  For instance, Aliens Vs. Predator.  I was there opening day, and did suck.
15461  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Elektra on: January 05, 2005, 02:08:13 PM
It will absolutely suck, and I'll be right there on opening day - tickets in hand.

A whole movie devoted to Jennifer Garner in leather?  I'm sold.  No plot required.

(Oh, and I'll just say it before Mitch gets here...blah blah, worthless without pictures yadda)
(edit - too late)

I liked the game as well, but I did admit that the multiplayer was a bit untested at the time of review.  These next few weeks will be crucial to determine whether this is a great game or a 'could have been a great game'.

Don't worry....I openly admit that its my goal to shut IGN down. smile  I'll achieve that goal some day....
15473  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Where is OO? on: December 29, 2004, 01:33:39 PM
I'm too busy to be bitter.  My only pain is that I don't feel very welcome when I go to OO.  The few times I've been over there it hasn't been pleasant so I don't go anymore.  It has more to do with the readership than the leadership, although there are pains there too.

As for us all hanging out together, I wish that was the case, but as somebody who had to straddle both sides of the fence, I am going to completely disagree that we had that kind of relationship between CG and GG once we moved into our own home.

Oh yea....we got the cool smileys too.  As for not being a PC site, meh...we held the only review on the entire Internet of Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines for several days.  I'd not call that a small feat...hell, IGN was almost a week behind us.  We do plenty of PC gaming round these parts...

If it makes you console haters any more comfy, you can think of a console more along these terms. Linky cuz its huge.

15476  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / What happens if your personal message box is full? on: December 28, 2004, 01:13:29 AM
You should get a mailbox full notification.   The pain in the ass is that it uses a pop-up to notify the recipient that they have new messages so unless they allow pop-ups from us they won't see the notification.  You'd have to rely on their powers of observation to see the "1 message waiting" notice.
15477  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Random Fighting Discussion on: December 27, 2004, 05:32:27 PM
I like kickboxing as much as the next, the only drag is that most of the fighters I've trained with are more destroyed by the training than any battles they might find themselves in.  They burn out too fast.  Martial Arts, traditional ones anyway, are a way of life.  You train for life and you live to train.  I might be a little more soggy round the midsection than in my prime but I've not lost any of my lethality because I did put in the 6 days a week, 4 hours a day for about 22 years.  I look forward to graduation from college not so much that I'll be a network engineer but more that I'll free that school time to go back to training.   You want to learn how to fight 'quickly'?  You might want to rethink why you want to learn how to fight, it might be just a hot head talking.  You want to learn how to completely devistate your aggressors two and three at a time with minimal effort?  Put in the time and get 'good' at a martial art.

15480  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / No cd cracks and CoC on: December 24, 2004, 03:03:19 PM
I'll tell you a story that will explain my feelings on them.  I am a huge Ultima fan...despite being burned time and time again by EA and their purchase of Origin I was very much anticipating Ultima 9.  I got the game and rushed home to install it.  I had purchased the "Dragon" edition, the box is essentially the size of a sheet of drywall and there are a ton of goodies inside.  I more than paid for my purchase.

I couldn't play it.

For whatever reason, safedisc hated the True52X CDRoms from Kenwood and I happened to have one.  I had to resort to a no-cd crack to play the game and realize my full dissapointment.

Fast forward to more recent times, I'm playing Morrowind and I'm wondering why I'm getting such jerky performance on my system.  One no-cd crack later and the thing runs like silk.

Lets face it, no-cd cracks are almost necessary for some games to even function.   That said, lets be smart about it, take it to PM or email.  Out and out requests for the no-cd in public forums make the publishers unhappy which hurts the site, some of them don't realize that we are a more mature gaming crowd who actually purchase the games we play.
