Ha!  Those are pretty cool.   I think the Dash could be ultra convenient, though not always the best price.   The balance struggle is real.
2  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver stopped responding... on: March 06, 2015, 08:41:03 PM
Hmm...the other thought I had when I saw this was twofold:

RAM or Heat

Were it me, I'd take Memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/ --- use the free version) and put it on a USB stick and let it test my memory.   If those all check out ok, I'd check and see if all my fans were spinning and clean.  Heat can cause crashes just as sure as bad drivers or hardware failure.

Let us know what you find with those two things.   If you are playing Tomb Raider or TitanFall, both are pretty resource intensive and would drive memory or heat.

5  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What skills will be obsolete in 50 years? on: February 24, 2015, 09:47:32 PM
I'm wondering about the fate of automobiles in that time.   Self-driving cars seem to be a big push.   I'd love to reclaim that time for literally anything other than silently staring out the window concentrating on not dying.

I'm hoping that in 50 years we'll also see the death of commercial power.  While I'm not sure we'll get everyone off the grid themselves, it'd be nice to see all commercial power replaced by renewables.

The biggest thing I see dying off is small-form manufacturing.   "Oh shit, my controller cracked.  I guess I'll print another one" will be the norm.  maybe not for proprietary things like controllers, but that doesn't mean people won't figure out how to make their own.
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Batman: Arkham Knight is rated M on: February 24, 2015, 09:38:28 PM
I find it interesting that movies will do almost anything to not be rated R, but games are (thankfully) moving further into a comfortable space with being rated M.   Does the rating matter to you?  (Not just this game, but others as well?)  I know for me, I'll skip a horror movie that's rated PG-13 more often than not because it's gonna be horror-lite.

So now Microsoft wants to frustrate the piss out of me.   I'm about ready to start just buying codes from Amazon as well.  This almost as bad as going to GameStop!  48 hours to process a digital code???? WTF.

Paris: Thanks for contacting Microsoft Store Chat, my name is Paris!  How can I help you today?
You: Placed an order for a year of XB Live yesterday. Still no code.
Paris: Okay no worries, as I'd be happy to assist you with anything regarding Microsoft products!
Paris: We can definitely work on this together and try to have any problems fixed in a timely fashion.
Paris: First may I have the Microsoft Account email address that you used to place this order?
You: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Paris: Just a moment while I look into that for you.
Paris: Did you please this order directly at our Microsoft Store online (MicrosoftStore.com)?
You: Yes, I did
Paris: For security purposes, you will need to validate your account. To do this, I can provide a link where you can login to retrieve a verification code. Please provide this code into the chat so that we may proceed. This code allows me to look into your Account details a bit further.
Please click here to validate your account!
Please provide me with the code that you receive after logging into your account.
You: XXXXXXXXXX

(skipping personal information)

You: I've got a paid invoice from Paypal, so it was at least paid for.
You: I don't want to be charged twice
You: Invoice ID: XXXXXXXXXX if that helps
Paris: Right and that is understandable. Did you receive an order confirmation? It may have been placed under a different email address.
You: I never got anything back from MS. The screen after I placed my order said it may take 4-7 hours or somesuch, and I got the confirmation from Paypal that it was paid for.
Paris: Okay and I can definitely understand where you're coming from. Would it be possible for me to get you over to our Customer Service support department?
You: certainly.
Paris: Thank you for your cooperation.
info: Please wait while I transfer the chat to the appropriate group.

Now we are getting somewhere, right?

You are now chatting with 'Yen'.
You: Hi Yen. Did the previous tech fill you in on the situation?
Yen: Thank you for contacting the Microsoft Store Customer Support. Please give me 1-2 minutes to review the previous conversation.
You: Thank you
Yen: do you have the order # for that purchased?
You: I don't. Just the paypal payment. I never got anything from MS other than the order was complete and would take 4-6 hours or something to get my code
Yen: Do you still have that email?
You: of course. Would you like to see it somehow?
You: Did I lose you?
Yen: Sure.
Yen: So that  I can check if it has the order #.
You: how would you like it? Copy paste? email somehow?
Yen: Or you can also check if a Reference order # is indicated on the email.
You: it's not
You: the only thing in here that would uniquely identify this is :

(more uniquely identifying info redacted)

You: you now have everything I have
Yen: Did you purchased it in the MIcrosoftStore website or in the Xbox.com website?
You: Microsoft Store
You: Xbox.com charges $59.99, MS Store charges $39.99
Yen: Can you please provide me your name and phone #, I will try to search for a possible order but if I wasn't able to pull up an order.
You: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
You: don't know which you have on file
You: Order placed at:
You: Date: Feb 23, 2015 Time: 11:07:33 PST
Yen: Let me try, thank you.
Yen: Let me try to send a code to your email address so that we could be able to check for certain details regarding the order.
You: ok
You: can you just paste it in the channel? I'll just hit it from there
You: still no email
You: can you paste it in?
Yen: One moment please.
Yen: Email has been sent. Please check for it.
You: got it
Yen: Thank you. Your account has been verified.
Yen: please let me review your account here.
You: ok
Yen: Upon reviewing the order here. I see that you were being charge for the xbox live that you purchased.
You: Yes, but I didn't receive the code
You: if you can paste that code in here, that'd be great
Yen: Yes, but the order is currently being reviewed by our accounting department. It will take 24-48 hours but the on the records it says that the order was placed 2/23. What we can do is to wait for the review to be completed today by 1 PM CST.
You: *sigh*
You: I sincerely hope that they can see fit to give me the thing I have paid for yesterday so I can move on with more important things.
You: because that's how transactions work. I pay you, you give me the thing I paid for
You: so frustrating
Yen: Once the review is completed, you will receive the email containing the code for the XBOX product.
Yen: I do understand how frustrating it might be to your part..
Yen: That is why I really apologize for the inconvenience..
You: I cannot imagine why this is a 48 hour process
You: it's an electronic transaction
You: it should be instant
Yen: I assure you that I will keep on monitoring this case for you..
Yen: I will send update to your email so that you will be informed that the order is already completed..
Yen: Again, I am sorry for the delay.
You: You DO realize that 1pm CST is in 12 minutes right?
You: if this isn't fixed by now, what difference is 12 minutes going to make?
Yen: Yes, we will just need to wait for a couple of minutes.
Yen: Let me provide a case #.
You: great
Yen: Here is the case #: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
You: fantastic. I'm off to post this in my forums for my readers. I'm sure they'll appreciate it
You: so disappointing
Yen: I will send an email to you later about the order completion.
Yen: I hope that I was able to help you in resolving your issue. I will continue to assist you until it was completely resolved.
Yen: Aside from this, would there be anything else that I can help you with?
You: No.
Yen: Alright. If you still have any inquiries, please don't hesitate to chat us back again or you can call us at 1-800-642-7676.

17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Interrogation or helpful? (GameStop) on: February 21, 2015, 12:32:39 AM
I found a New Nintendo 3DS for purchase at GameStop.  I called ahead and the guy wouldn't hold the thing for the 10 minutes it'd take to drive over.  Ok, fine, whatever - I get it, first come, first served.  That said...I got there and picked up the last system and the last copy of Majora's Mask.  That's when the interrogation began:

- "Would you like a credit card?
"No, thank you"
- "Are you a PowerUp rewards member?"
"Yes, my phone number is XYZ"
- "This is my last system.  Do you want a warranty with it?"
"No, I'm getting that through SquareTrade"
- "Oh. I see.  You know, if you had the credit card you'd..."
"No thank you. I don't need a credit card"
- "Ok, would you like to pre-order anything that's coming up?"
"I'm a member of the press.  I get nearly everything sent to me, so no"  (not trying to be rude, just trying to get off this train)
- "Well, not EVERYTHING"
"Yea, pretty much everything."
- "Well, but Nintendo can be pretty stingy with product"
"No.  Not with me -- we have a good relationship with them"
- "But if you pre-order you are GUARANTEED..."
"I'm not interested"
- "Ok, but I just wouldn't want you to miss out"
"Thanks"
- "...because this is my last copy of Majora's Mask"
"Ok"
- "Would you like to buy a memory card?"
"I already have one"
- "But this system only comes with 4GB"
"Yes...I know.  I already have one"
- "Ok, but you can come back here if you run out.  We always have memory cards."
"Thanks"
- "Don't forget, too, if you have any phones or tablets you don't need anymore, we buy those too."
"Ok"
- "FOR CASH!"
"Ok"
(the rest of the transaction is what you'd expect)

This is why I normally buy on Amazon.  I click the button, I get my product.  If I want a warranty or to pre-order things, I click those buttons.  I don't have to be interrogated to buy something.   It makes me less and less likely to come into a GameStop if I can at all avoid it.  I can tell you this -- when I managed one, it wasn't like this.  This...this is just nuts.   How is your experience?    Is this sort of thing helpful?  Driving you away?  Do you happen to have a sane game store nearby?

The sad thing is that I don't think anyone would be complaining about the length if it wasn't for that initial report on the YouTube playthrough. Since when did gamers become such sheeple?

I don't know - a $60 game with no MP and no bonus modes that's just 7-9 hours in length with lots of unskippable cutscenes? I think people would be talking about it even without that speed run video. Especially a game that's been in development as long as The Order.

Yep this mirrors my opinion, The Order is not a slam dunk must buy and you must do your homework before purchase to see if it is a gamestyle you want to play.  As for me?  Nope not interested in it at all after seeing a few videos of it in action.
...which is ABSOLUTELY the right attitude.   If you play nothing but sports games, you may or may not like Turn Based Strategy games.  Some folks LOVE those.  Some hate them and find them 'boring'.

I think there is an element of divisiveness for sure, but the more reviews I read, the more 'rotten in Denmark' this gets.  People go on (and on) about how fantastic parts of the game are, then with little info to the contrary hand it a low score.  This feels a little more witch hunt than usual.

In Arizona very few people have basements.  (Something about the ground being made of sand, clay, and deported immigrant tears or something)

You have to dig below the frostline when placing the foundations for a house, and for places with deep frostlines you may as well dig a wee bit deeper to get room for a basement.  Since the frost line in your area is only a foot or so, it takes a lot more time and money to dig the rest of the way for a basement.

Since your friend has an Arizona basement, he must be rolling in the dough and so he should pay for your laptop.   Truthiness!

Lol!  He's certainly rolling in huge house payments!   He's one of those dudes that never seems to have two pennies to rub together but always has the best toys.

I'd stick with your current class.  Guys with longer reach are still gonna be leaner fighters.  They may have a little bit of a reach advantage, but you'll be at a more 'neutral' weight.  Cutting through dehydration will greatly add to your first-round adrenaline dump as your body needs to carry electrolytes through your system via water.

Bhahahhaha....I needed a good laugh.    In Arizona very few people have basements.  (Something about the ground being made of sand, clay, and deported immigrant tears or something)   Well, a friend of mine DOES have one, and it has a concrete floor.   I rolled my ankle walking down the stairs and the 17lbs laptop became a 17lbs missile, bouncing down the stairs resting splayed open on its face.   So, yes, while it does look like I dropped it from space, it was slightly less distance than that.

Or TLDR, it wasn't this:

I've been kinda under the radar over the past few days....why?  Well....this fresh hell below.   I have insurance on the thing, but it's soooo frustrating and stressful wondering if they are going to cover it.  It's accidental drop and damage, and I accidentally dropped and damaged it, but at the end of the day SquareTrade is an insurance company, so all bets are off.
