Apparently GT agrees with my assessment:  100/100

Side note:  why don't you guys every come into the forums and pimp your own reviews in the game discussions?

We used to, but the engagement back (even when volumes were higher) was lacking.  People just weren't engaging.   We'll try again and see how it goes.

As for the redesign, that's much closer than you think.   I know I've been saying that for a while, but I fully intend to launch it this year.  That includes a fully integrated forum/front page.  We did a successful test migration, so it's certainly coming.    I know this has been a pain folks....believe me, it's a priority.   It'll be worth it.

I have no idea what your willing to spend, but I took a chance on Aperion Audio a few years ago and they're fantastic...amazing value. I went with their Verus Grand series after finding nothing but glowing reviews and haven't been disappointed. Granted those are their top-end speakers, but even their lower stuff is supposed to sound great.

The one caveat is that you have to be willing to take a chance on something that you can't hear before buying, but that's not a big risk when they ship them free for a 60-day trial and will pay for the return shipping if you're unhappy. I never thought for a second about returning mine.

Ooooooh.....1900 bucks is a little out of my price range right now, but they are very highly reviewed.  Maybe I'll save up a bit?

I've come to accept that my kids are busy forming their own list of movie memories, and they differ from mine. But they'll be just as special to them one day.

Let it go, KD. Let it go. icon_biggrin

Oh man....I just can't.  He just hasn't seen ANYTHING.  Every day it's another movie he's never seen.  I've gotta raise this kid right!  HE MUST CONVERT!  SUBMIT!

What happened with ADT, Ron?  Did they admit they screwed up?  Or did they mysteriously find a reason that it was someone else's fault (as I suspect they will/have)?

ADT's excuse is "We don't actively monitor - we just wait for you to send a signal that you need our help or your alarm goes off unanswered."  I explained that's exactly what happened.  They sent out a tech and he says "Somebody cut the wire"   Well yea!  That's the point!    Apparently the alarm didn't go off, so it doesn't matter that they couldn't contact it at all.  In the end they did exactly what I figured they would do - nothing.

Then I got a bill for over $100 bucks for the service charge.   I called them and read them the riot act.  They removed the fee and waived the last month.   I won't be using them for the new home, that's for sure.

On the damage to the wall situation, I'm still waiting for about $4300 in reimbursements.  On the 24th I move into my new house (with any luck) which should start some level of normalcy in my life again...

I've upgraded but haven't tried any games apart from Hotline Miami 2, and that's not exactly taxing. Everything I've heard indicates that you should see no change in game performance if upgrading from Windows 8, and a small increase in performance if upgrading from Windows 7.

My biggest two issues with Windows 10 right now are a lack of drivers for the Oculus Rift, and the infamous start menu bug that falls apart when you've got more than 512 shortcuts. I have more than 600, so my start menu doesn't work as it should.

That's...a LOT of shortcuts.  Interesting bug though.   That number suggests a limited address space kinda situation, like the sort you'd see back in the Windows 9x days.

The thing that really, really upsets me is that they were able to walk in and just cut the alarm wiring.  The motion sensors are kinda useless if the whole system is offline.    We had people there at 6pm the night before taking pictures for the house closing, and then at 6am we got the report, so the alarm was offline for 12 hours and ADT did nothing??  They are coming out tomorrow to figure out what happened, but that question is gonna stick for me no matter what he finds.

Because of this post:'so-'/

As you know, I've moved to Texas.  I'm selling my house in Phoenix and it was scheduled to close about two weeks ago.   Well, they had problems with some documents on the buyer side so we delayed by a week.  Then somebody got into an accident and ran through the brick wall of my house.  It was repaired yesterday.  I got a call today from my real estate agent.  In the last 24 hours, somebody broke into the house (which is scheduled to close on Wednesday) and....vandalized it.   I'm waiting for pictures, but they shit all over the carpet in the three rooms, stole the speakers that were mounted in the ceiling, kicked out the doggy door, stole the shower heads, stole the spare hardwood, spare carpet, spare kitchen backsplash, damaged a cabinet, and more!   How'd they get in...well, they came in through the doggy door and cut the alarm system's wiring.   Did the alarm go off?  HELL NO!   Why would it?

I've got an insurance claim going, and I've got an ADT rep that's going to come out and find out why the alarm didn't do it's one goddamned job, but I'm so stressed out and upset at this point I can hardly see straight.

I have to say...I'm pleasantly surprised.  Everything has worked so far.  It feels like Windows 7 with a fresh coat of paint, a new engine for some additional speed, and some of the better parts of 8.   Nothing has had problems running.  Anyone else take the dive and have any experience on the gaming side?

Well, I told him already that he can expect to be coming to martial arts class with me.   I figure that's a rapid path to instilling some respect and discipline.   He's also been told that we'll be very involved in his education.   I'm not looking to be a dick to the kid, but I do intend to set some expectations and either reward him for hitting them, or placing consequences for missing them.

I know if I leave this kid where he is, he'll continue on the path he's on.  That path leads to him being like his punk "friends" - drugs, theft, and all manner of dead end.

Very long story short, a mutual childhood friend has just had a baby.  Her oldest (15 years old) has never had a positive male role model in his life.   My wife, having visited our friend for over a month, was asked if we'd be willing to foster this oldest kid for about a year.   We don't have any kids, but everyone tells us that we'd be great parents.   We decided we'd take on the challenge for at least a year.

Sorry for the extended absense - I've transitioned jobs (finally!) and my new gig blocks GT.  frown     I'm working on fixing that (soon!) but it does make it difficult to post and keep an eye on things.

Forum usage is down for all webmasters.  As has been pointed out, sites like Neogaf and Q2Three that have built their entire coverage around their forums are still remaining strong, but folks who have turned their attention to reviews, previews, etc. have certainly seen a diverging of their traffic.  As it stands, our forum traffic is certainly down but our front page traffic is very much up.   With this transition finally complete, we are doing a bit of rejiggering in the background.   The oft-promised unification of the forums and front page are finally gaining some traction (believe me - I want it to happen more than you guys!) and moving forward.

All of that said, if you guys really want to consolidate forum boards again, I'm not against it.   I want to engage you all the way you want to be engaged, and if that helps things, then let's do it.  If it's of interest, start a thread, we'll start the debate, and we'll do whatever is decided.  After all, we are here for all of you!

I've put in a shade over 3 hours.   A few impressions:

- I'm playing on a 980 with everything at Ultra and the Hair Effects turned on at 1080p.  I'll be doing benchmarking in a moment.
- The game works very well with an Xbox 360 controller  (about to try kb/mouse)
- Hooooly crap I forgot how difficult the combat can be.   I've died.  A LOT.
- The world, as Ridah said, is chock full of detail.  It's amazing just how much of it, really.
- Creatures are unkind to one another.  I saw a bunch of X icons on my minimap, indicating a body.  Turns out a bunch of Neckers had wandered into a nearby wolf den and obliterated them.  Easy pickins once I got rid of the two Neckers.
- Money is scarce.  You might think "hey, I'll be nice and not charge this person for killing their monsters" but you might also find yourself unable to buy necessary items to heal, seal off monster areas, etc.
- Loading times are almost non-existent when you die or fast travel, at least thus far.  It's odd having to go to a sign post to fast travel to another sign post, but that's how it works.
- The texture detail on armor and weapons is the best I've seen in any game, ever.

I'm only a little ways in, but thus far it's pretty damned incredible.  I've already had two "Oh, that wasn't the intended outcome!" moments, and I'm just getting started!

For what it's worth, a developer claims that the PS4 version will see an improvement of 3-5 fps on average with the day 1 patch compared to what the reviewers were seeing.

A few sites confirmed that, on both the PS4 and XB1 version.  Went from an average of 29fps to 33fps, even during heavy combat.

For those on the PC, if you want to know what all of the important features look like turned on or off, or even running the game on low will look like, this video is pretty great.   Hell, if you just want to see what NVidia is doing with some of the new NVidia-specific bells and whistles look like, here ya go :
