Thanks for looking that up.

I'm amazed by the things people offer up here for trade.   icon_eek

Some have written that they are done with a game or DVD and don't want it sitting around gathering dust.  Maybe there's someone thinking that right now - or maybe someone has received an ultimatum - "Clean out some of that junk or else...".

Anyway, it doesn't hurt to ask.  If I can't make a deal, I'll just watch here for another amazon deal... or, I'll just read the book again.  KD - Thanks for making this forum available for us to make those connections.

143  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Single Player Half Life 2 Recommendations on: January 26, 2007, 07:04:34 AM
Thanks, warning - The screenshots for minerva look great.  I got it.

gameoverman, I have to run it at 1024x768 too, so I'll go for the 2.32 version of Fake Factory.  I'll have to see if it runs on my machine.  I have a 128 mb card, and only 512 mb of system memory.

I'm especially interested in the Weapons pack.  I think the pulse rifle looks especially bad.  That small mod shouldn't slow down framerates too much.

Smod sounds really good, too.  I've played through the original game twice and this should bring a freshness to the game.  Thanks!
144  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Single Player Half Life 2 Recommendations on: January 26, 2007, 12:04:11 AM
Just this week I discovered that Andy Mahood is writing a weekly column called Modify for Gamespy online.

Past articles are archived and most are about mods for games that interest me.  I recommend them for a good read.

I looked into single player mods for Half Life 2 about 12 to 18 months ago and was surprised that there didn't seem to be too much available.  I hadn't looked for mods lately, so when Andy wrote about Leon Brinkmann's mod called Coastline to Atmosphere, I decided to try it out.  In the game, I am still in the "jeep" as I work through this mod and it is excellent!  Kudos to Leon.  Wonderful work that reminds me of the original, but is fresh.

Per Andy's reviews, I have downladed Rock 24 and Causality Effect.  I haven't installed them yet but Ill be doing so as soon as I finish the one I'm playhing now.  I am wondering if anyone here has other single player mods they can recommend.

Thanks for your input.
145  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Civ 3; H&D 2, MOH:PA and POP:WW at Big Lots for $6 - YMMV on: January 06, 2007, 10:45:46 PM
I spotted these today at one of the local Big Lots for $6 each.

There was the usual assortment of software trash, but there were a few worthwhile titles that someone may have missed when they came out.

Sid Meier's Civilization 3
Hidden and Dangerous 2
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault - DVD. Be aware that this does not work with all DVD drives.  It happpened to me.  It would not even read the disk.  Then I got a new DVD drive, and it works fine.  The old DVD drive still works fine, except for MOH:PA.

Oh yeah - They had a copy of Vietcong, too.

YMMV - Good luck!
148  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Help needed on BHD: Team Sabre - Attempted Arrest Mission - Impossible? on: December 17, 2006, 08:11:33 PM
I finally got around to playing Team Sabre, and I can't succeed with the 6th mission in Columbia.

I've searched the internet and can't find a thing about this mission. I'd like to finish it and get this game off my backlog.

Spoilers ahead...

The task is to arrest Paulo, and everything is fine until we clear the village and pick up the documents. When the chopper crashes, I can't get to the airman in time. I can't even get 1/4 of the way to him.

I have the printed strategy guide, and that doesn't work. The airman is killed.

You can't go directly to him because the top of the hill is mined.

You can't go south of the village past the edge of the minefield and then cross the hill, because you get the message to return to the mission, and then the mission ends because you left the invisible boundaries.

I tried going down the valley and clearing out the attackers before picking up the documents, but the mission ends prematurely.

I tried picking up the documents and then charging down the valley with guns blazing. No go.

I'm wondring if the patch has somehow changed the scripting and made the mission unwinnable.

Anybody succeed on this one? Help will be greatly appreciated. Smile

Good idea, CSL

Simple way to solve several problems.

1 point when offered, 2 points when recipient posts in the thread that the game was received.

Good incentive for traders to offer up desirable software.

Quote from: warning on October 23, 2006, 08:43:15 PM

The only problem I see/saw with it is someone putting up 10 games that are all "B" or "C" quality titles and then taking the next 10 "A" quality titles he sees.  I tried to avoid that personally by offering a new game everytime I saw one I liked and claimed.

I know there were several people on the old thread who did what warning did.  Some people even bought games just so they could offer up a nice title for others to claim.  Kudos for all who were conscientious.

On the other hand, there are those who will just throw some garage sale or flea market junk on the pile and then take every good title out there.

Then there is the person who will register, put up a list of several games, claim what they want, and then disappear, refusing to send out anything that they offered.

One way to stymie these people would be to offer games one at a time - Offer one, then several hours or a day later, put up another, etc.  They wouldn't be able to claim a pile of treasure all in one fell swoop.

Offering games one at a time would give more people a chance to pick up something they are looking for and increase the incentive to check the thread. That probably would keep the flow of the thread a little steadier instead of the feast or famine flow of the past.

I know some who offer up freebies want to do it and be done with it - post a big list after spring cleaning, etc., - which is fine.  Some people want to send out the stuff in the fewest number of packages possible, and I certainly understand why.  These are just some ideas for those who have concerns about the abuse that sometimes takes place.

In the end, a PIFF is a really nice way to help out your brother or sister.  Those who abuse come and go. So be it.  PIFFers can still have a good time in spite of them.

Deadzone quote - "So you guys don't think there should be a shipping account?  In other words, everyone pays the shipping costs themselves and just ships the cheapest way?"

I don't know positively that I'll participate, but I did in the last freebie thread here.

Taking that into account, you can decide on the amount of weight you will give my comment.

My opinion is that the shipping should be paid by the giver.  Any other way will lead to complications and problems.

Congratulations, Daehawk!  I knew it would be a lot, but 231 - that's great.

BTW - Any possibility of posting that list? I'd really like to see it and I'd guess that many others would like to see it, too.

I'd also like to know what was on the other lists.  Maybe other entrants came up with one or two that Daehawk didn't think of.

It would be great to have a list with all the WW II games we could think of.
