Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Logitech Extreme 3D Pro USB Joystick?
|
on: December 05, 2004, 11:26:09 PM
|
|
Saw this on sale at CompUSA for 19.99 after MIR. I saw numerous reviews on the internet where buyers complained of calibration problems after a few weeks and that there is a downloadable calibration fix on the Logitch support website that none of the reviewers mention.
Does anyone have this joystick and can give an opnion?

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Help Diagnose this Car Problem
|
on: December 05, 2004, 07:07:43 PM
|
|
My wife drives a 97 Toyota Camry automatic. Yesterday, she was driving down the highway and then all of the warning lights came on and then the car died. She came to a stop and was able to restart the car and drive home. I don't know if this is related, but three months ago, we spent $400 to have the dealer redo the wiring in the trunk because the back lights weren't working. The car battery is a 5 year old Sears Die-Hard.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I Stopped Playing Sacred Today
|

I remember a post about a month ago where the person said that they just didn't care anymore. I feel the same way. I had updated to the latest patch and my journal got broken. I kept going anyway and got halfway through the quest where you need to find the four elements. Just more of the same hack, hack, hack. The side quests were all in the fedex vein and you didn't get any really good loot or a lot of experience points. Just more of the same. Boring. I think the straw that broke the camels back were the quests that required you to go voer the same territory and to go to all four corners of the map. Even with the portals activated, it was still a lot of been there, done that.
I really like Diablo 1+2 and even played the console Baldur's Gate, and Champions of Norrath games. But Sacred just left me with the feeling that I wasn't getting anywhere.
I think that I am ready to move on to Pirates!

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Hey lawyers (LSAT and GPA Q's)

The best way to prepare for the LSAT is to purchase the sample/practice exams and take them under real exam conditions (This last part is the most important). I took the LSAT way back when they were on the "48" scale, so I don't know how the scores correlate now.
Also note that you may have a better shot at the national law schools that have very large 1L classes (Harvard, NYU, Georgetown, etc.) as opposed to the small law schools (Yale, Stanford) because those schools are large enough (400+ 1Ls per year) to want geographic diversity. That means that you generally have a better shot if you are from the middle of nowhere, but a harder chance if you are from a big city with good schools.
Good luck

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / SWON or Wings of War?
|
on: October 21, 2004, 10:16:54 PM

I have both games. I finished SWON, but am just starting WoW. While agree with the above posts that WoW is a better game technically, SWoN in my mind has more atmosphere. The one thing that I really liked about SWON was the inclusion of exprimental planes. If you ever wanted to take on ME262s with an experimental US fighter, SWON should not be missed.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What compelled you to go Console?
|
on: October 17, 2004, 01:55:25 PM
|
|
Here are my reasons:
Ability to put console in the living room instead of going to the den to play games on the PC
Football games are better on the consoles
Consoles are more party gaming friendly (easier for two to play at once)
Interest in genres where consoles have the edge, particularly RPGs

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / How are Non-Epson ink Cartridges?
|
on: October 17, 2004, 12:22:12 PM
|
|
I have an Epson CX5200 color all-in-one printer and am running ow on ink. The Espon brand ink cartridges are pretty expensive and 123inkjets.com has an ink megapack for $45 that comes with 3 blacks, 2 reds, 2 blues and 2 yellows. Anyone have any experience with non-name brand ink? My primary use if for general office printing/copying and kids art projects. I don't use it for color photos.
I remember a thread in gonegold forums a while back on the subject, but don't remember the consensus. I would also be interested in any sources for cheap name-brand ink. I think Amazon may have the best deal for Epson ink.
Thanks in advance for input.

If you primarily print in B&W, I would recommend getting a laser instead. You can get a good one for less than $200 (Brother or Samsung) and the toner is a lot cheaper than ink cartridges on a cost/page basis (although the first toner cartridge will be pretty expensive compared to the first ink cartridge).

I thought that they were about the same. If you have a PS2, I would look into Champions of Norrath instead. I think that it can be found for $20, or $15 if you do the Best Buy gamers gift card trick.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Why can't you download PS2 or Xbox demos?
|
on: October 16, 2004, 01:47:50 AM
|
|
I heard about Halo2 being pirated and downloadable from the internet and began thinking, why can't you download PS2 or Xbox demos from the internet and then burn them to a DVD to be played in your PS2 or Xbox? The demos on disks are the only reason why I buy some console gaming magazines, but the demo selection is rather limited. I think that it would be great if there were a console demo library of comparable size to PC dem library.

Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / TRU B2G1 coming soon

IMO, unless you have cash coming out of your eyeballs, you are better off getting the good $19.99 games in this deal. Last year, I got three brand new games for $100, but 6 months later, all three were going for $19.99. Besides, there are too many great games out there that you can't possibly have played them all before their prices stop dropping. It seems that even for good games, you can get them for $29.99 or less within 6 months of their release.

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Charity that Wants Used PDAs?

on: October 15, 2004, 07:24:31 PM

Not really a problem, but I have a few old PDAs (3 years, old by pda standards) lying around and was wondering if there are any charities that would want them. I called Goodwill and Salvation Army and they would just try to sell them in their thrift stores.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [xbox] Got KOTOR, now what??

One piece of advice, don't read any other forum threads other than this one so that you don't accidentally read any spoilers. Also, don't read any previews for KOTOR 2 because a few of them have spoilers too.
Enough said.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Pirates Limited Edition - Extra Content? (PC Version)
|
on: October 11, 2004, 12:59:42 AM
|

I've never preoredered a game before, but I am seriously thinking about preordering Pirates (PC). I noticed that the description of the LE on ebgames says that it comes with the original game and special mods available only on the LE. Does anyone know if we will be able to run the original game on WinXP? ALso, anyone know anything about the special mods?

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Fallout BOS worth $30?
|
on: May 23, 2004, 10:53:09 PM

I noticed that the price for Fallout BOS has come down to $30 at EBgames and FYE. I know it wasn't worth $50, but is it worth $30? Also, are there any insanely difficult jumping puzzles? I hated that puzzle from the original BG:DA.
