1441  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Blackberry Websurfing? on: July 28, 2005, 11:39:49 PM
I just got a Blackberry with websurfing capabilities and was wondering what are the most useful sites to browse on a Blackberry.  So far, only Yahoo seems usable on a Blackberry.  Does anyone know of any other good sites to browse on a Blackberry?  Any good gaming sites?
1442  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What Game? on: July 11, 2005, 09:52:29 PM
Civ3 - low graphics requirements and its turn based, so that you can play as little or as long as you want.
1443  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Freedom Force v 3rd Reich for $9.99 on: July 10, 2005, 05:54:13 PM
Listed in the outlet department of circuitcity.com.  The site says that this deal is only available in store.  Hopefully I can find this one near me.
1444  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Hori DS Screen Protector on: July 07, 2005, 01:06:59 AM
Just noticed that ebgames.com is listing the Hori Nintendo DS screen protector for $6.99 arriving on July 12th.  Not really a deal, but this is supposed to be the best DS screen protector and was previously only available from the import sites.  Hope that they get these in the stores too.  I just got my DS and have been looking for one of these for a while.
1445  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Guild Wars Solo Play? on: June 06, 2005, 09:48:20 PM
Can you easily finish the game using the NPC henchmen or do you really need to team up with real people?  One of the reviews said that NPC henchmen are ok, but don't really help at the higher levels.  Just wondering before I take the plunge.

Thanks
1446  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How DO GBA Games Look on the DS? on: June 05, 2005, 02:41:49 PM
Related to another poster's question>  I have big hands and prefer the wider DS over the narrow SP.  How do GBA games look on the DS?  I know the screen is bigger on the DS.  ALos, does the second screen just stay off when you are playing GBA games?
1447  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Best Nintendo DS Deal? on: June 05, 2005, 02:16:35 PM
Title says it all.  I remember a sale not to long ago where you got a free game.  Anyone know about next week's father's day sales? Any word of a price drop any time soon?
1448  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Anyone see Ground Control 2 for $9.99 or less in store? on: June 04, 2005, 11:49:16 PM
Make sure you ask them to scan it.  The stores around me don't put on new price labels when the price goes down.  I got Pacific Fighters last week for $19.99 when the label said $39.99.
1449  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Anyone see Ground Control 2 for $9.99 or less in store? on: June 04, 2005, 07:31:46 PM
I've seen it for that price at various EBGames in the metro Washington DC area over the last few weeks.
1450  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW - Can you play using 2 different computers? on: May 26, 2005, 02:03:57 AM
Here's the deal.  I am going on vacation to my parent's house in a few weeks, but would like to play WoW on their computer.  Can I take my disks and install it on my dad's computer and play?  I figure that I won't be violating the license because I will only be using it on one computer at any one time and I will uninstall it when I leave.  Does this work?  Or does WoW install your character data on your PC so that I can't do this?

Thanks!
1451  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Auction/Unique Ring Help on: May 24, 2005, 01:49:08 AM
Thanks everyone for your help.  The sell the current ring to a merchant, pick up my auction winning ring, mailing it to another avatar, and rebuying the original ring worked.

All of you are great!
1452  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Auction/Unique Ring Help on: May 22, 2005, 12:33:08 PM
Help!  I just won an auction for a blue blush ember ring.  I can't retrieve it from my winning auction email because it says that I can't carry more than one of those rings.  I thought that I could have two of the same blue rings because I previously dual-wielded with two of the same green swords.

Anyway, I', stuck.  I can't re-auction the ring because I can't retrieve it from the email.  I can't email it to a guild member because I can't forward the winning auction email.  I tried putting my current blue blush ember ring into the bank and then retrieving the auction ring and that didn't work.  I also tried emailing my current ring to a guild member for safe keeping until I retrieve and auction my new ring, but I can't mail a soulbound ring.

I know that if worse comes to worse, I should be able to sell my current ring at a huge discount and then equip the new ring, but I obviously don't want to do that.

Help!

1455  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / What do you want to see in Weekly Deals? on: April 25, 2005, 01:10:06 AM
Thanks for doing this.  I vote for all of the above.  In addition, just to make your job a little harder, I would also add any non-sale related notable price drops.  For instance, can't wait for KOTOR 2 to reach the magical 19.99 price point.  I suppose that it won't happen until the new XBOX is released.
1456  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW: Warrior Double Wield Skill Help on: April 22, 2005, 09:54:46 PM
olaf,

When did that happen and why does it still show up under my skills?  It also appears to work in combat.  Can you give me more of an explanation?

Thanks
1457  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW: Warrior Double Wield Skill Help on: April 22, 2005, 09:37:20 PM
I have a level 30 Dark Elf Warrior with its dual wield skill stuck at 30/150.  I have a blue sword in one hand and a green sword in the other.  I have killed 20 level 20 beasts and the skill doesn't improve.  Interestingly enough, I have gained sword skill points in the process.  Why won't my dual wield skill go up?  Also, should I put the better sword in the main hand or does it not matter?
1458  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Moving MS Office XP Educational Edition to a New Computer on: April 22, 2005, 05:15:14 PM
I just ordered a new Dell computer with their $750 off coupon yesterday and would like to install MS Office XP Educational Edition from a computer that I plan to donate to my kid's school to the new compputer.  I remember some discussion about activation codes and system checks to prevent piracy.  I'm going to erase the hard drive of my old computer, so there will be no duplicate.  So how do I do this?

Thanks in advance for the help

1461  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Guild Wars Preorder Disk for $0.99 at Target on: April 10, 2005, 12:01:34 PM
This isn't necessarily a deal, but a good chance to try Guild Wars without paying $50 to preorder or $10 for just the preorder disk at some other places.  Target has the preorder bonus disk that allows you to play in next weekend's beta for $0.99 and it comes with a Target coupon for $1.00 off when the game comes out.  Other places make you pay $50 to preorder or $10 for the preorder disk.  A dollar isn't a bad cost to check out the beta if you are still on the fence about this one.
1462  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Guild Wars? on: April 05, 2005, 09:43:52 PM
I am a relative MMORPG newbie and have played WoW up to a level 24 Dark Elf.  I've heard about the upcoming Guild Wars and was wondering what the beta testers have to say.  I generally play solo and am liking WoW, but am getting tired of the fedex quests.  Is Guild Wars more of the same?  Also, is there really no monthly fee?

1464  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Noob Seeks MMO and WoW Advice on: February 28, 2005, 02:20:08 AM
I've never played an MMO before.  But a friend gave me the 10-day trial pass from WoW and I installed it and now have a few hours under my belt.  That said, I am having problems deciding whether to buy the full game and take the plunge.  I have a few questions and comments for the veterens out there and woulld appreciate your advice:

1.  As a solo player experience, the game so far only seems "ok" (all of my quests so far have been of the fedex variety).  Can you play solo or do I really need to join a guild to enjoy the game?  Based on what I have read, you really need a party to complete some of the advanced quests that have you fighting powerful bad guys.  Where can I go to join a guild with other low-level characters?

2.  If I do join a guild, does that mean that I have to commit myself to a certain number of hours per week so as not to let my fellow guild-members down?  Because of my busy schedule, I expect my playing time to be sporadic (2 hours per week or so),  I am concerned that fellow-guild members who spend more time will level-up much faster than me and won't want to wait around for me to catch-up and reach their level.  Is this a valid concern?

3.  Is there an option to toggle an arrow on the mini-map so that I know where I should be going next?

4.  I've also read some criticism that Blizzard hasn't added more features more quickly.  I've also read that some players have already maxed out their characters.  How big an issue is this?  If any of you have maxed out your character, how long did it take?

5.  Can anyone explain the "battlefields" that everyone keeps talking about as coming soon.  Is this a PvP arena?

6.  Is WoW the type of game that will be supported and people will play for years?  Or will most of the players migrate once the next best thing comes out?  What is the next best thing and when will it come out?

Thanks in advance your your help.
1465  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Wireless Networking Question on: January 25, 2005, 04:32:18 AM
I have a home network with 2 PCs hooked up through a Linksys router to a cable modem.  I will receive a new work laptop this week with a built-in wireless card.  I was thinking of upgrading to a wireless router w/ a built-in ethernet switch so that I can connect my wired desktops and still use my laptop's wireless card and have the following questions:

1.  I noticed that the most popular/reaosnably priced standard is the 802.11g standard.  Will the signal be strong enough to go from my basement to my second floor master bedroom (through 2 floors)?  My house is about 10 years old and I am not aware of any metal beams in the floors or walls.

2.  Do any of the answers for #1 matter if the laptop has only a 802.11b wireless adapter?

Thanks in advance for your help
1466  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Logitech Cordless Precision Controller for Xbox on: January 08, 2005, 11:46:05 PM
$29.99 at Target at the RIO Center in Gaithersburg, MD.  It scanned for $39.99, but there was a new sticker on the shelf showing that they were just marked down to $29.99, so the cashier had to do the price adjustment manually.  They had about 5 left this afternoon.

AFAIK, this retails for $49.99, so this is a great price.
1467  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Warcraft 3 - Can You Give Orders While Paused? on: January 02, 2005, 11:56:07 PM

1469  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Loud fan in Dell Dimension 8300 on: December 09, 2004, 01:52:25 PM
The fan is pretty loud and whines at times and at other times, for lack of a better description, sounds like it's revving.  I am pretty sure that it is the main fan and not the fan on the vid card (Radeon 9600 PRO).  Any advice?
1470  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Xbox] Goblin Commander , Deus Ex 2, Other -- What to get? on: December 06, 2004, 12:03:49 AM
If you have a Sears near you, check their video game clearance table next to the cash registers.  Yesterday I got Kingdom Under Fire for $13.00.  I believe that this deal was posted in the S&D forum and on other bargain gaming related websites.
1471  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Logitech Extreme 3D Pro USB Joystick? on: December 05, 2004, 11:26:09 PM
Saw this on sale at CompUSA for 19.99 after MIR.  I saw numerous reviews on the internet where buyers complained of calibration problems after a few weeks and that there is a downloadable calibration fix on the Logitch support website that none of the reviewers mention.

Does anyone have this joystick and can give an opnion?
1472  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Help Diagnose this Car Problem on: December 05, 2004, 07:07:43 PM
My wife drives a 97 Toyota Camry automatic.  Yesterday, she was driving down the highway and then all of the warning lights came on and then the car died.  She came to a stop and was able to restart the car and drive home.  I don't know if this is related, but three months ago, we spent $400 to have the dealer redo the wiring in the trunk because the back lights weren't working.  The car battery is a 5 year old Sears Die-Hard.

Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
1473  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I Stopped Playing Sacred Today on: November 24, 2004, 01:26:21 AM
I remember a post about a month ago where the person said that they just didn't care anymore.  I feel the same way.  I had updated to the latest patch and my journal got broken.  I kept going anyway and got halfway through the quest where you need to find the four elements.  Just more of the same hack, hack, hack.  The side quests were all in the fedex vein and you didn't get any really good loot or a lot of experience points.  Just more of the same.  Boring.  I think the straw that broke the camels back were the quests that required you to go voer the same territory and to go to all four corners of the map.  Even with the portals activated, it was still a lot of been there, done that.

I really like Diablo 1+2 and even played the console Baldur's Gate, and Champions of Norrath games.  But Sacred just left me with the feeling that I wasn't getting anywhere.

I think that I am ready to move on to Pirates!

What did you get?
1476  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Hey lawyers (LSAT and GPA Q's) on: October 23, 2004, 11:30:54 AM
The best way to prepare for the LSAT is to purchase the sample/practice exams and take them under real exam conditions (This last part is the most important).  I took the LSAT way back when they were on the "48" scale, so I don't know how the scores correlate now.

Also note that you may have a better shot at the national law schools that have very large 1L classes (Harvard, NYU, Georgetown, etc.) as opposed to the small law schools (Yale, Stanford) because those schools are large enough (400+ 1Ls per year) to want geographic diversity.  That means that you generally have a better shot if you are from the middle of nowhere, but a harder chance if you are from a big city with good schools.

Good luck
1477  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / SWON or Wings of War? on: October 21, 2004, 10:16:54 PM
I have both games.  I finished SWON, but am just starting WoW.  While agree with the above posts that WoW is a better game technically, SWoN in my mind has more atmosphere.  The one thing that I really liked about SWON was the inclusion of exprimental planes.  If you ever wanted to take on ME262s with an experimental US fighter, SWON should not be missed.
1478  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What compelled you to go Console? on: October 17, 2004, 01:55:25 PM
Here are my reasons:

Ability to put console in the living room instead of going to the den to play games on the PC

Football games are better on the consoles

Consoles are more party gaming friendly (easier for two to play at once)

Interest in genres where consoles have the edge, particularly RPGs
1479  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / How are Non-Epson ink Cartridges? on: October 17, 2004, 12:22:12 PM
I have an Epson CX5200 color all-in-one printer and am running ow on ink.  The Espon brand ink cartridges are pretty expensive and 123inkjets.com has an ink megapack for $45 that comes with 3 blacks, 2 reds, 2 blues and 2 yellows.  Anyone have any experience with non-name brand ink?  My primary use if for general office printing/copying and kids art projects.  I don't use it for color photos.

I remember a thread in gonegold forums a while back on the subject, but don't remember the consensus.  I would also be interested in any sources for cheap name-brand ink.  I think Amazon may have the best deal for Epson ink.

Thanks in advance for input.
1480  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Inkjet Printers on: October 17, 2004, 01:10:59 AM
If you primarily print in B&W, I would recommend getting a laser instead.  You can get a good one for less than $200 (Brother or Samsung) and the toner is a lot cheaper than ink cartridges on a cost/page basis (although the first toner cartridge will be pretty expensive compared to the first ink cartridge).
