Strangly enough I just happened to channel surf by the TNG rerun with Scotty a couple of weeks ago.

If your "slapping your head in frusration" over somethng as minor as characters maybe being to lax in a certain situation I'd say someone needs to lighten up a tad....its only a TV show.

I'd like to see it. As a RTS player I have been wanting to see someone try a RTS on it too see how it would play. Wether the stylus would work well enough(Seems like it would) and if the screen would be big enough for it.

For instance, coming back from retrieving the supplies, they were talking pretty LOUD.  The guy on point is not doing what a guy on point should do, the guy guarding the rear isn't doing his job....all in all, very unsatisfying.

While I admit your waiting for something bad to happen to them in that situation and as soon as that scene started I was like "here it comes", I don't think it was totally out of place. None of those three characters are regular soldiers, there all support personel(mechanics and such) so that mode isn't "normal" for them so to speak. Plus they had made there way down to the site and were back up in the trees thinking there safer now. A minor down point I think.

The people who don't think the flood of illegal immigration isn't that big of deal don't live in one of the states being affected by it. Being a Arizona resident I see it every day.

1607  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nice surprise from Gamefly. on: July 15, 2005, 07:31:01 PM
Got an email from Gamefly recently about a new service to help improve delivery times. They can tell when a game has been scanned in by the Postal service so they can send the next game out in your Que without waiting for it to be physically returned. I mailed a game off yesterday and it showed up today as being scanned with the next in the process of being shipped already. Looks like a good way to cut down on the turnaround times some have complained about before.

Well in the last few weeks I've seen of of the best superhero movies ever released followed by one of the lamest. Its wasn't Catwomen/Elecktra bad but man what a disappointment...

Oh well, the NHL always was horrible at promoting it's status as a mainstream sport.  Hockey is superior to baseball in every way, IMO.

Yea thats why dog shows get higher ratings than hockey on ESPN.
1610  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Greatest American Rock Band on: July 08, 2005, 06:51:42 AM
When I see a band list with Peal Jam at #1 but a band like Beach Boys at 18 it shows the profound lack of taste in music so many have today. Also shows why 90% of the music I listen to these days is 20+ years old.

When I think about it MTV has been about the worst thing to happen to music ever...
1611  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Sin 2 to be released via steam on: July 06, 2005, 06:35:45 AM
I don't see the problem with 6-8 hours of FPS gameplay for $20 either. I just burned through Area 51 and it took maybe 6-7 hours tops which is becoming more the norm these days(why I rent these games mostly). Hopefully they will include some MP stuff( Sin CTF was one of the more fun MP games out there at the time).

I'm just tired of the same old crap and having to play sections of a game over and over and over and over and over and over.

This is why a rent console games. The checkpoint save system thats prevelent in most of the games will usually make me quit a game eventually. I may be enjoying it up to a point but then a it some part that I have to do a certain set of things in a certain way or I die and restart and have to it again and again. What bugs me so much is depending on the points I have to play certain sections that get old fast over again before I get to the point I was at. That stuff can just kill the fun for me. Its like hitting a brick wall of frustration.
1613  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBox 360 vs PS3 hardware discussion for the day... on: June 30, 2005, 08:04:39 AM
Quote from: "Andrew Mallon"

As you said, you still need a mem card if you want to xfer saves or files from one machine to another. As for price, the PS3 will retail at the same price as the 360 or $299, whichever is higher. Everyone said the PS2 was going to be $399 before it was launched too. Retail pricing estimates for the PSP were way off as well.

There's no proof that the PS3 will sell at the same price as the 360, nor what the 360 will sell at itself. As for needing for transfering from one machine to another big deal. I'd bet about 1/10 of one percent of Xbox users ever wanted to do that and it also wouldn't be any diffrent that with the PS3 or Nintendo.

and the added bonus of me not having to buy mem cards for the system (I already have mem sticks and SD cards) and backup saves to my PC.

So? Don't need memmory sticks for the 360 at all unles you want to move stuff from one machine to the next.

From what I see the PS3 is gonna be more expensive unless Kutagari is lying about them not knocking the price that much below production costs. Even with the HD on the 360 the PS3 is gonna be more expensive to produce.

heh, server was full before I got the email telling me my own IP address.

Last night I found a server with 11/64 and it was full before I could connect.  This game is insanely popular right now since it's so new.

Gamespy shows it at #2 right now with as many players as HL. With the people still playing the demo added in its #1. Not bad for being out less than a week.

Game of Thrones-Really fun game mechanics, just wish they didn't hamstring themselves with the map as it makes the game unblanced.

San Juan & Puerto Rico.

Settlers of Catan. Fun game but damn expensive if you want the expansions.

Not a board game but had fun learning Warmachine. Not sure if I'll drop the bucks needed for my own units...maybe I'll just borrow other players stuff.  smile

Not sold on the PSP for shooters with only 1 analog stick, nub or whatever its called.

What if you sort of reversed it, and had circle/square/triangle/X as your forward/back/strafe movement, the nubbin for your mouselook, D-pad for weapon select, and R-trigger for shooting?  The analog vs digital input would be the same as a mouse w/WASD, but would it be too hard to get used to playing sort of left handed?

Guess it would be "playable" that way, although I am used to the reverse of that for movement/aiming in console shooters. Also don't really like the thought of using 4 seperate buttons for movement.

I too, watched about 2 episodes of Season 1 and thought it was absolutely awful. I mean, terrible. A very very bad Star Trek knock-off.

Worth trying again?

Uh you do know that DS9 is a knock off of Babylon 5 right?

Babylon 5 in its middle years(2-4) is light years better than just about anything Star Trek except TNG series at its best.

Since Microsoft is bringing in the Xbox 360 this year, I think Nintendo might end up as number 2 this generation since they still have more than a year left with the GC and a new "non-kiddie" Zelda title coming out.

I doubt that. GC sales even in their strongest territory of Japan have fallen to almost nothing now. The DS was the reason they made money this quarter.

1629  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Videogame voice actors to go on strike - not paid enough? on: May 27, 2005, 07:37:12 PM
For me bad voice acting is more noticable these days now that I have herd more quality work done on some games. I think for the most part it only matters for now when dealing with movie tie-in games, and getting the movie actors to do the voice roles.

Simple.  Remove the handhelds from the equation.

Gladly.  Now Nintendo only posts roughly a few hundred million dollars more profit than MS's home entertainment division.  Don't believe me?  You can download corporate earnings statements from both Nintendo and MS's website.  Oh wait, I forgot - fanboys like Rage don't bother to use facts.

Uhh you shouldn't be talking about "twisting facts" as others have already pointed out.

I think Nintendo is being the most realistic of all three of them.  Phoney machines, pre-rendered video, and a nice box (that is subject to change).  I am just completely amazed that the Xbox is only a few months away and there is NOONE being critical of Microsoft for not producing anything other than hype.

Umm is this your first E3?

I liked the ROTS allot too but thats still going to stay as a dumb idea on his part along with Jar jar. The force reduced to bactieria? No thats just lame.

"The Force reduced to bacteria" is also a very inaccurate description of what midichlorians are. Midichlorians do not create the Force.

midichlorians having the force or being what gives it is lame, period. He added this on later obviously since Obi-wan in the origioanl trilogy says nothing ever about it. It was origionally a mystical force that all life has that binds etc etc. Thats fine. Dropping in bactieria as the part of it was just dumb. It makes the whole Jedi/Force thing start to sound cheesy, just keep it the way it was.

True, when two guys are looking at the new GTA game in the store they are thinking "Wow look at the new GTA game", not how they wish it would have come out on the Xbox instead.

The dreamcast was AWESOME what happened there? it had no Halo or GTA THATS what happened.

It also didn't have a company with $50 billon in the bank either. smile

1637  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBOX 360 Games to be $59.99 each... on: May 21, 2005, 01:06:59 AM
"INFLATION!?!?!??! HEY WONDERPUG! who do you work for are you an EA employee? You are 89% wrong. Gaming has been hit HARD by inflation. This is the only electronic product that hasn’t gone DOWN in price!!!! In 1980 a VCR was 599.99 today it can be had for 39.99. In 1980 a VHS movie was 89.99 cmon you remember those days,"

Err The VCR cost that much becasue it was a brand new technology at the time, just like DVD players were super high when they first came out. That always happens with hardware like that(See HDTV's today). Movies cost that much in the 80's because thats what the studios choose to make them cost. What happened? Hardly anybody bought them and 99.9% of people jsut rented. Now thay have learned their lesson with DVD which are much more affordable.

I think that certain 2D games could sell on the consoles, though. If another 2D Castlevania, another 2D Mario, or another 2D Metroid was made, I'd bet that it would sell pretty well. Unfortunately, I believe that only established franchises could do reasonably well with a 2D game.

As budget titles maybe, but not a full $50.
1639  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Perfect Dark Zero: First Impressions [IGN] on: May 19, 2005, 08:25:27 PM
I don' get the angst of "only 30 FPS" either. Forza runs at that I thought the game played fine. If its a solid not below 30 fps then I don't see the problem. People need to understand the diffrence between always running at like 30 fps and a timedemo of 30fps.

I'd prefer them to just design a slimmed-down Xbox1 unit for those who want perfect compatibility but don't want two bulky systems hanging around.

They didn't own the hardware or design of it with the first Xbox. Hence their problems of not being able to do this or gets costs down.
