1601  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Best of E3 Awards announced on: June 09, 2005, 06:34:31 AM
The PS3 and Killzone win awards? You would think they might have at least a minimum requirement that the stuff which wins actually exist in some form. Not totally complete obvioulsy be at least show thats its more than smoke and mirros.
1602  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / How about a new Star Trek film? on: June 02, 2005, 08:28:52 PM

Can we just let it die?  huh?  how about that?

I agree. Why people still want to latch on to this long dead horse is beyond me.
1603  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Wow! Not liking Babylon 5 so far... on: June 02, 2005, 08:22:45 PM

I too, watched about 2 episodes of Season 1 and thought it was absolutely awful. I mean, terrible. A very very bad Star Trek knock-off.

Worth trying again?

Uh you do know that DS9 is a knock off of Babylon 5 right?

Babylon 5 in its middle years(2-4) is light years better than just about anything Star Trek except TNG series at its best.

Since Microsoft is bringing in the Xbox 360 this year, I think Nintendo might end up as number 2 this generation since they still have more than a year left with the GC and a new "non-kiddie" Zelda title coming out.

I doubt that. GC sales even in their strongest territory of Japan have fallen to almost nothing now. The DS was the reason they made money this quarter.
1605  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Retro Gamer magazine on: May 28, 2005, 02:48:51 PM
I've read several issues a friend got. A pretty well done magazine for people wanting to go down that retro path again. One surprise I got from it was how there are still a few people making new games with some of these systems.
1606  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Videogame voice actors to go on strike - not paid enough? on: May 27, 2005, 07:37:12 PM
For me bad voice acting is more noticable these days now that I have herd more quality work done on some games. I think for the most part it only matters for now when dealing with movie tie-in games, and getting the movie actors to do the voice roles.
1607  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / TV Shows Winding Down - Whatchagonnado?? on: May 27, 2005, 08:07:30 AM

1608  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / This season of 24 ended great! on: May 27, 2005, 08:04:05 AM
While the ending was stretching it even for this show, I like how they could use this as a way to change things up with Jack next season.

Again I ask you - explain to me how exactly they are in 3rd place?

Simple.  Remove the handhelds from the equation.

Gladly.  Now Nintendo only posts roughly a few hundred million dollars more profit than MS's home entertainment division.  Don't believe me?  You can download corporate earnings statements from both Nintendo and MS's website.  Oh wait, I forgot - fanboys like Rage don't bother to use facts.

Uhh you shouldn't be talking about "twisting facts" as others have already pointed out.

I think Nintendo is being the most realistic of all three of them.  Phoney machines, pre-rendered video, and a nice box (that is subject to change).  I am just completely amazed that the Xbox is only a few months away and there is NOONE being critical of Microsoft for not producing anything other than hype.

Umm is this your first E3?

You know, what?  I really liked it. smile  That midichlorian bullshit kind of makes sense.

I liked the ROTS allot too but thats still going to stay as a dumb idea on his part along with Jar jar. The force reduced to bactieria? No thats just lame.

"The Force reduced to bacteria" is also a very inaccurate description of what midichlorians are. Midichlorians do not create the Force.

midichlorians having the force or being what gives it is lame, period. He added this on later obviously since Obi-wan in the origioanl trilogy says nothing ever about it. It was origionally a mystical force that all life has that binds etc etc. Thats fine. Dropping in bactieria as the part of it was just dumb. It makes the whole Jedi/Force thing start to sound cheesy, just keep it the way it was.
1612  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBOX 360 more powerful than the PS3? on: May 21, 2005, 02:20:49 PM

This is all nonsensical ramblings.. DONT MATTER who is more powerful, its all about killer ap.. you think Joe Sixpack cares about the tech specs?? thats why he buys a console instead of a PC.

True, when two guys are looking at the new GTA game in the store they are thinking "Wow look at the new GTA game", not how they wish it would have come out on the Xbox instead.

The dreamcast was AWESOME what happened there? it had no Halo or GTA THATS what happened.

It also didn't have a company with $50 billon in the bank either. smile

1614  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBOX 360 Games to be $59.99 each... on: May 21, 2005, 01:06:59 AM
"INFLATION!?!?!??! HEY WONDERPUG! who do you work for are you an EA employee? You are 89% wrong. Gaming has been hit HARD by inflation. This is the only electronic product that hasn’t gone DOWN in price!!!! In 1980 a VCR was 599.99 today it can be had for 39.99. In 1980 a VHS movie was 89.99 cmon you remember those days,"

Err The VCR cost that much becasue it was a brand new technology at the time, just like DVD players were super high when they first came out. That always happens with hardware like that(See HDTV's today). Movies cost that much in the 80's because thats what the studios choose to make them cost. What happened? Hardly anybody bought them and 99.9% of people jsut rented. Now thay have learned their lesson with DVD which are much more affordable.
1615  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow FOR DS. *sigh* on: May 21, 2005, 12:56:53 AM
Quote from: "Ralph-Wiggum"
I think that certain 2D games could sell on the consoles, though. If another 2D Castlevania, another 2D Mario, or another 2D Metroid was made, I'd bet that it would sell pretty well. Unfortunately, I believe that only established franchises could do reasonably well with a 2D game.

As budget titles maybe, but not a full $50.
1616  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Perfect Dark Zero: First Impressions [IGN] on: May 19, 2005, 08:25:27 PM
I don' get the angst of "only 30 FPS" either. Forza runs at that I thought the game played fine. If its a solid not below 30 fps then I don't see the problem. People need to understand the diffrence between always running at like 30 fps and a timedemo of 30fps.

Quote from: "Freezer-TPF-"
I'd prefer them to just design a slimmed-down Xbox1 unit for those who want perfect compatibility but don't want two bulky systems hanging around.

They didn't own the hardware or design of it with the first Xbox. Hence their problems of not being able to do this or gets costs down.
1618  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I can't find it anywhere, Is Xbox360 backwards compatible? on: May 18, 2005, 06:45:34 AM
Guess it could be that each game would need work done on it to make the title work right on the new system and they can only dedicate so many resources to it. Then I could be totally off base as I'm not a programmer.
1619  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBOX 360 Games to be $59.99 each... on: May 18, 2005, 06:41:04 AM
I would be surprised if it wasn't this much. Listen to the devlopers talk at places like the GDC this year. Game costs are skyrocketing. The next generation is going to be that mush more. You want those uber Unreal 3 engine level flashy graphics? Well open up your wallet then.
1620  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendo Revolution pics!! on: May 18, 2005, 06:36:30 AM
I'd sasy I like the Revolutions design the best from simply the the standpoint thats its well simple and straight forward its nothing flashy but so what. The PS3 and the Xbox360 are two good examples of "over design" IMO.

He said strategy title, not specifically a RTS(see the wish about an X-com game).

When I first herd about AOE for the DS I thought this could be something to get me interested and then I read its a TB game? Whats the point of the AOE name if its a TB title? Ohh yea lame marketing bullshit to mislead people...

1625  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendo Revolution-info. WOW! on: May 07, 2005, 10:35:10 PM
I love the line of how Nintento has no intention of letting MS and Sony steal their marketshare. A news flash to Nintendo, Sony already did that...with the first playstation.

This whole back and forth e-mail thing sounds like it came straight out of that Reggie guys head.

All is well...ALL IS WELL!!!!.  biggrin
1626  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Can anyone recommend the Gamefly service? on: May 07, 2005, 10:27:33 PM
I think they are fine, and I live in Arizona. Occasionally there would be games, that took too long to "get back". Probably just sitting somewhare waiting to get checked in, but good speed overall IMO.
1627  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Forza Motorsport impressions here! on: May 04, 2005, 08:54:00 PM
The "not as good as graphics as GT4" seem to be just about the car models. I've seen other posters who have agreed with this but say everything else is better on the Xbox.

I keep hearing this stuff since the showing of the cell proccessor. Everybody thinks the version shown is automatically the one that will be in the PS3. There's no proof of that. This stuff is like the PS2 all over again. People never learn it seems

Have you seen the system specs for the XBox 2 that leaked out a while back?!

(3) 64 bit IBM multicore processors inline running at 3.5+ Ghz with 1MB cache and the ability to process 2 threads per CPU. Add highspeed memory<->video bus. Factor in the dedicated hardware and optimizations (look at Halo 2...and remember it is running on a 700ish mhz Intel with 64 megs of ram) and it will run circles around PCs for a while to come.

The average enthusiast PC doesn't even come close to what the Xbox 2 will have and probably won't for a while.

I think these screens very well represent game play.

Man its like deja vu again. It feels like the summer/spring of 2000 again...

Its the person that shows it to me. The vehicles do pretty much look like a photograph, but you can still tell they guy is CG. Very good FF the movie like CG but you can still tell. Still very impressive though if this will be capable in real-time.
1634  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I just utterly destroyed my Xbox controller (Unreal Champ 2) on: April 29, 2005, 07:07:04 AM
I agree that UC2 is extremely hard except on novice. I alomst quit the tutorial because of that stupid "chimney jumping" stuff. Thats just annoying. I like the concept of the game but, and this will make me sound like a PC gamer whining, I really wished I could play the game with the mouse/keyboard instead. The biggest gripe is that I have to let go of the right stick to do things like switch weapons, jump, use power attack etc. It makes the game less fluid for me since I cant do that and keep full control at all times.
1635  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Elixir Studios Closes its Doors on: April 28, 2005, 06:22:49 PM
Republic was a bettter idea than a game. EG was fun despite some problems. COnsidering the game industry these days I'm sure if the game had some license like Austin Powers or something it would have done better.
1636  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW: Casual Player = waste of time in PvP? on: April 27, 2005, 08:59:21 PM
Man some people just don't actually read about stuff on this board. You can get good points(your rank is your contribution points not just how many HK's you get.). I have seen people who had 3 times the HK's of me but not that much more in points because they just fight in places like Tarren Mill. If your in some mass of 30 players and you kill even 50 others players your gonna have allot of HK's but not that many points. Killing another faction by yourself is very much worth it for the honor system.
1637  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Quitting WoW - what's the best MMORPG for me? on: April 25, 2005, 08:39:23 AM
I get a big laugh at the people who say WoW has a less mature crowd. Give me a break people. Every single friggin online game(RTS, MMO, FPS) has more than its share of pricks.

You go online you are going to have to deal with those types every now and then. Just a fact of the online world. Not a fun one buts its the truth.

1639  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendo Revolution - touchpad controllers? on: April 22, 2005, 08:59:58 AM
Quote from: "Kevin Grey"
I think Nintendo is going to make a strong push for exclusive content for almost all of their third party products next generation and they are going to do it by introducing a new controller style that will make ports of games for PS3 and Xbox 2 very difficult.  By introducing a new controller type they are effectively ensuring any games being built around it are exclusive to Revolution.

The flaw in that logic would be I see there being less and less exclusive 3rd party content. Games are simply costing too much to make and will only go up. This generation has shown it even more with all the ports and multi-platform titles. Publishers need to spread out the costs. Only a select few first party AAA titles like MGS, Halo, Mario, Zelda can make it as an exclusive IMO. Yea they can make any games exclusive by the choice of a controller design like that(if its true) but how many publishers are simply going to say Revolution or PS3/XB2? I think thats a pretty easy answer.
1640  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Phantom Dust : Best Crack Ever?? on: April 18, 2005, 05:11:02 PM
Guess I have a a somewhat dissenting opinion. To me it felt like half a game(talking about single player). The combat was fun, but not the rest. The small area you have to keep running around in got old fast, and  the dialog and story were pretty lame IMO. Its as is they spent all their time on the combat then had to slap something together at the last moment to try in finish it. Just allot of unrealized potential as a game IMO. For me I was having allot of fun after the first hour but was bored and tired of dealing with the crap outside of combat after about hour 3.
