So UPS has screwed me over, and it's set for Monday delivery.  They can't even change it to customer pickup at the facility.  I have a bad feeling my PS4 delivery odyssey isn't going to be over Monday either...

That blows, sorry to hear man!  Have you contacted Amazon to see if they can compensate you in some way?

If it was not regular shipping option where they have a window of days to get there, but something like 2 day then they should refund the shipping charge back for failing to deliver it.

Word of warning to those of you planning to play Assassin's Creed 4 on the PS4: Give it a couple of days first. Ubisoft just confirmed that the retail version of the game runs at 900p, but that it will be upgraded to 1080p in a title update available "shortly after release". Still no word on the resolution of the Xbox One version, which is kind of suspicious.

There was a 1.01 update available when I put the disc in this morning.

I am willing to have a larger sized box that provides a full featured entertainment system that integrates into my living room.

Let's call these two systems for what they are:

PS4:  Turbo charged PS3 (in terms of not expanding really on the feature set) that is capable of next gen gaming, but is focused only on gaming.   Developer friendly architecture.
Xbone:  Next gen gaming device that also provides living room/entertainment center integration and multitasking

There is room for both.   In fact I'm thankful we will have both.

The only multimedia ability that the One has over PS4 is the HDMI pass through. The rest is just app support for streaming. Also the PS4 can do multitasking too like any modern operating system.

If they are gonna charge for things like MP now the one thing I won't give them the least bit of slack anymore is performance and reliability with PSN. The network damn well better work and it better be up 99.99 percent of the time Sony.

Anyway to keep yourself distracted for a few minutes at least the obligatory .50 Cal vs gadget video. In this case a shiny new PS4.

Anyone know how to transfer data if you swap HDD at a later date?

I would like to know this, too.  I've watched a few of these HDD swaps, but no one mentions transferring the info.
I would assume it's the same or similar to the PS3.
You use a usb flash drive with the built in Playstation backup software, pop the new drive in, then restore from said flash drive. It was easy to do, but time consuming..IE: hours...

They will all be on Netflix each with a full commitment of 13 episodes.

The problem with episodes like this is putting a main character in mortal danger doesn't have the emotional weight since you know they will come out at the end. Unless its like the last episode of the season and they want to kill a character off for a big splash.

Well its expected in that case. I assume MS is paying some fee to Unity so developers can use the engine free, but of course that means they can't make it for PS4. If developers don't want to be platform limited then they license it themselves.

PLEASE NOTE:
The Xbox One footage is the same one that DF got heavily criticized for. The color balance in the Xbox One footage is wrong! Don't draw any conclusions based on it. It actually has the same color balance as the PS4 version, but you can't see that in these videos. Since the black colors are crushed in that footage, a lot of detail is lost in dark areas. The best comparisons are done in the bright parts of the videos for this reason.

The flaw of Internet video vs actually watching the game on the TV. Even if its 1080p the video is still heavily compressed compared what you get on your TV.

No, you're talking about something else. There's very, very little compression in these videos (hence their size), but the Xbox One footage has the wrong RGB range set. This has nothing to do with compression, but it means the recording equipment received values outside of the color range it was expecting, clamping them as a result.

My mistake in wording. I wasn't talking about these downloadable ones but stuff people are watching streaming from Youtube and other websites.

This month also marks the anniversary of Vita games being added to PS+, so presumably the year-long games (Uncharted, Gravity Rush, and Wipeout) will be replaced by three new games.  I don't think Sony has confirmed this, but that's what they did with the year-long PS3 games.  Also, Sony confirmed that you'll be able to add the PS4 games to your account even if you don't have a PS4.  I don't plan on getting a PS4 until next year, so that should make for a nice big library once I do get one.

They could change them, but the Vita has a much smaller library of games vs the PS3. I would be surprised too see them take out something like Uncharted as its still one of the best games to show off the Vita.

Well for the most part I think your a part of a minority. The rise and popularity of the FPS genre is not based on story and characters. Even Bioshock's designer Kevin Levine said they had to make a great shooter first with quality game mechanics at its core.

There's still time yet for it to fail. Guerrilla Games has proven its inability to write a decent story since KZ2 even if they've finally gotten the technical aspects down.

The game could very well turn out like Crysis. Technically sound, but overall lacking any soul, with a stupid and ridiculous story.

And the difference to this compared to just about any other FPS "story"? I mean really Battlefield and CoD are massively popular. Do people really get into the crazy Michael Bay plot lines of either of those?

Outside of maybe Bioshock it doesn't matter much to most players IMO.

Looking like a pretty good month for PS+ users.

For PS4:
Resogun
Contrast

FOR PS3:
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen
Ibb And Obb
Binary Domain

FOR PS VITA:
Soul Sacrifice
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.

Will be interested to see if Sony will change policies because of feedback with the PS4. This no DLNA, no MP3 stuff is clearly not tech related but business so as to try and drive business to their online music and video services. For all the crap MS took about things I'll give them credit for making a number of changes to get back on the good side with users.

I'm sure they will get to those other characters since they have the standard network need to will 22 or so episodes. I just don't have the patience to go through that many to get there. It's the fundamental problem I have with network series. They want to much content so there's too much filler and dragging on. I so much prefer series on basic cable like FX, AMC etc. They have 10-13 per season. It's more condensed, more stuff of consequence happens. Think if Breaking Bad had to pump out 22 per season what that would have done to the quality of the show. Well enough of my rant. I wish I would like SHIELD more but with my viewing time available I don't think I want to commit that much to it anymore.

The Xbox backlash has been from a very small segment of the market - people who read gaming sites and preorder consoles.

Then why did MS reverse so many of their initial policies? Why bow down to such a small minority if the majority would want all of these "awesome features" as they were originally described as?

MS fans still can't seem to accept the truth that MS royally fucked up those first couple of months and has had to spend all this time doing damage control.

THey already announced the XB1 will allow added HDD space  via USB3 IIRC. It's not in place as of yet.

Right, which is why I said it didn't support it at launch. I know it will later. If someone were to get 8-10 games at launch (not even counting downloadable things), are they just SOL? Can you even replace the drive in the XB1? I honestly don't know.

How many people would have 8+ games they are actually playing installed at once. If its more than 5% I'd be very surprised.

Besides the PS4 will have the easy HD upgrade just like the PS3 did.

Long as the reviews hit before the system comes out then I don't see the big deal. I guess Xbone fanboys don't like the possibility of positive PS4 reviews being out there with no corresponding XB1 reviews.

In a situation where pre-orders are almost necessary in order to get a console within the first few months after launch, pre-release information is extra important so that we can make educated choices about which product to buy, if any. Sony knows this and Microsoft knows this, so when either of them holds back information, it's easy to get suspicious as the consumer.

Those pre-orders were made long ago. If someone went with one of the bundles they know full well they are committing to the game(s) without having reviews to make a decision so no it still doesn't matter much. As for the rest if the Nov 12th info is right then you got 10 days to read reviews to your hearts content before its out.

With Ghosts I think its that the majority of the sales are still going to come from the current gen systems because of the install bases, hence they aren't putting that much effort into the One/PS4 versions. Turn Ten can get Forza because they are making a signature game for the system and they have to make it for one spec not the 5 for Ghosts. Plus and this is a guess I bet its easier to get a racing game looking good at high FPS than a big shooter like Battlefield.

I think the difference is that Turn 10 was on the inside - I recall videos where they had direct input on product design.

The teams working with outside vendors (due to the confidentiality agreements and the nature of competitive business) are not going to have those same inside tracks. MS will surely help them, but they're not going to invite  Dice, IW, and the like into the design process proper - it would be like a cook asking you to help sear your steak as opposed to your waiter asking how you like your steak done. EA, Activision, Ubisoft - they are individually collaborators with MS and Sony, but also their customers. MS doesn't dictate what gets put in their games - and they don't get the kind of insider benefits a first party developer does.

If true I find that very telling as to why the Xbox one ended up the way it did. Kinect, Cable TV addon stuff, etc..

Mark Cerny publicly talked about spending a long time talking to many different developers about what they wanted in a new console. Basically the opposite of what they had done with the PS3. Conversely it looks like Microsoft came up with what they thought was best and then released it to developers and said here ya go guys now make games for it.

One of the major reasons why I've personally switched and pre-orderd the PS4 after being mostly an Xbox gamer for the last generation.
