The server would still have to send the data that lets every computer know what is happening to the hundreds or even thousands of objects that are being tracked when the truck blows up. That would quickly overwhelm most current cable/DSL speeds.

It would be a marketing disaster if they did that. They delayed the product but now they're touting they will be pumping out a million a month. Thats a huge number for a brand new high tech piece of equipment with several pieces of brand new technology in it thats never been tested before.

It's not their fault the internet only has so much bandwidth at a cost.

Doesn't matter to me as a consumer. I care about what I would get for the money I payed or might pay for a product. For me this is a turnoff.
1404  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / AGEIA's PhysX Processor on: March 25, 2006, 04:21:18 PM
Another turn off for me I read at Firingsquad. This was from a demo of a FPS prototype game called Cell.

Quote
One thing we did learn is that the demo we saw was LAN-only; because of the limitations of Internet bandwidth with all of the physics Cell Factor would not work as an online game.

I pay $300 for the card but won't be able to use it on any online games? Yea guys let me know when you have something worth my time and money.

I don't see how pushing the game to next gen if it ever re-surfaces would make it suddenly "work". It sounds like some soft of "perfection syndrome" at Blizzard.

You must have never seen the framerate gimmped, graphically neutered PS2 version that I saw.  If there was a game that needed a graphic overhaul it was that version.  In today's environment, if the gameplay is there but the graphics are crap, its gonna get panned.

Then they should use all their money and prestige to hire some guys that can code graphics engines. There was never anything that impressive with its visuals.

There also going to be having competition from ATI and Nividia who are showing off physics acceleration with their cards. Wasn't sure if this was some sort of addon to the cards or using the current hardware to also help with the calculations but if they can pull off something descent that gamers can just get with their video card purchase I'd think this would hurt and widespread adoption of Ageis's card.
1409  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / AGEIA's PhysX Processor on: March 23, 2006, 11:40:43 PM
Unless they release diffrent versions that are affordable its going to be a niche product regardless of how cool the stuff looks. PC Gamers are already geting tired of dumping money for faster CPU's and video cards.

You mean their decsidion to have FFXI or not because thats pretty much the extent of the HD on the PS2 for the vast majority of gamers. The HD was never more than an afterthought for it and it showed just like an online service was. MS has made Sony re-evaluate those decisions, which is a good thing for gamers overall.

Well considering the PS2 came before the Xbox, with the expansion bay for a HD, I'm sure they would have had one, and they had the Network Adaptor too, but I'm not sure, you could be right.... Anyways.

And how much was the HD used in the PS2?

I would state it more as a triumph of UT2004 than a problem with any other game.

If you want to call it a "triumph" then I guess you can. My point is comparing UT to BF2 in their bots without looking at the diffrences in the games and all that would be involved in making bots work well isn't valid IMO.

So, why is the AI so bad compared to the likes of UT2K4? Simple - the programmers were lazy. Period./quote]

Not to totally let the devs off the hook but BF2 is a bigger game than UT is with more complexity to get bots working well. UT has no classes, and not as vehicles, many which are also transports. The bots in UT are good at standard stuff, but they don't change much weather your playing DM or Onslaught. Granted They're probably about the best out there right now but they arn't a replacement for real MP.
1415  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battlefield 2142 on: March 21, 2006, 06:54:02 AM
The BF games have never been about the bots. If you don't have broadband internet or just don't want to play online the games arn't worth it.

EQ2 -- has Everquest name.  Everquest > Bioware in MMO land.
Vanguard -- has Richard Garriot.  Richard Garriot = UO.  UO > Bioware.

Using that logic EQ2 should have carried more weight than Blizzard since it was the MMO king(in the states at least) at the time, yet WoW wiped the floor with EQ2 from day 1. Bioware's name will give it plenty of attention in the crowded MMO field.

A 10 is high but I can see if you like the series why it would get really high scores. The dual analog control is great, and makes the game play very well. And in the really good graphics and you have a high scoring game.

I DO like the series.  I still scored it appropriately at an 85.  There are some issues that should have been fixed before this thing left the studio...

The only issue I can see were some mostly minor technical stuff that I don't think detracts from the main gameplay really. Its a matter of opinion obviously and I don't think its a "perfect 10" either, but still a really good game(whatever number that translates to) myself.

If you think MMOGs are so great, try picking up a really solid single player RPG and give me a comparison.  The depth of your average MMOG is about on par with Ultima 1.  Even WoW, which I love, is still not deep as far as RPG games go.

I didn't know we were competing. I just stated what works for me I'm sorry I didn't preface that in the first post, I am in total agreement with you otherwise. The actual doesn't hold up because so many other things factor into that value beyond price.

I meant the "I win" because I felt you were turning it into just how you felt alone as a way to make your arguement work, when I wasn't asking about a specific person in general to begin with but the market in general. If people want the device they will buy it even something like a $300 ipod just to play music on the go(as long as its not absurdly overpriced at least). While price drops help spark sales in the end I think games will trump any price factors as a whole.

300 bucks is just more of an initial investment. While what you say is very true, it's easier to absorb that 150 impact than the 300 dollar one. On top of that I can get 3 games with my console for 300 or 2 and an accessory, so it's more enticing when the platform is inexpensive. I'd rather spend 300 for a system and 3 games than 350 or 400 or even 450 or in the case of the Xbox 360 580 bucks for a 360 and three 360 games, that's almost $600 bucks and is a very big intial investment versus $300 for the same perceived value.

That theory doesn't pan out in practice as the lower price of the Gamecube had no effect on PS2 sales.

Oh I could give a rat's ass about PS2 sales versus Cube sales, I bought them all, actually bought the PS2 3 times, and the Xbox 2 times. So I don't care who sells more widgets.

The above cost theory only applies to me and me alone. If I can three times as much initial enjoyment out of a purchase for the same price then that's usually where I go. I bought a DS over the PSP only because I got a ton of games with it for the same cost as just the PSP. I know the PSP will rock and give hours of entertainment eventually, it was just a matter of when I get that entertainment for my money.

Great way to say "I win"...

It's also noticeably better the moment you see Keira Knightly naked.

Don't see why someone would get excited over that. Yea she has a very pretty face, but that line from the movie about "the body of a ten year old" is pretty much true. Never seen what people like about 90 pound chicks with zero curves.

Never really understood the price being so much of a factor for a console. Why would someone definately pre-order for $150 but not $199? Even at say $300 when you factor in the years of the console's life span things like memmory cards, replacement controllers, and games add up more than what a console itself will.

GameSpot followed up on the story, and got the following reaction from a PS3 developer who claims to be in the know regarding HUB: "They [Sony management] don't understand it. They don't understand why it's important. They don't get what developers need to make it good. They're trying to adapt due to tons of inside pressure (there are, of course, many incredibly brilliant people in Sony who have been screaming about this stuff for about a decade), but essentially Microsoft is on the cutting edge of this stuff and Sony is like your grandmother who just got her first AOL account."

From the NY Times:

Quote
The local sheriff, Ramon Salinas III of Kenedy County, said the Secret Service called him shortly after the shooting occurred.

Sheriff Salinas said he sent his chief deputy, Gilbert Sanmiguel, to the Armstrong Ranch that night. He said Mr. Sanmiguel interviewed Mr. Cheney and reported that the shooting was an accident.

Took me all of about a minute to find this. Next time try doing some basic research instead of flying off the deep end with conspiracy crap.
