Insomniac are a pretty hit or miss studio.   Fuse wasn't so hot, and the Resistance games didn't really light the world on fire and varied widely in quality.   Even the R&C games have a fair bit of quality disparity.  It's really hard to know how this one will turn out until it releases.

Hit or miss except that both the Resistance And Ratchet games have a history of solid mid 80's average ratings over the years. So if you wanna call those misses I guess most all games that have ever been released are then

I was very excited about this until you guys reminded me that this studio also made Fuse, which I was excited for, purchased, and was utter garbage.

I hope this is good.

Judging this games potential quality from one title for a long time developer like Insomniac is rather unfair.

I know the game will look great when released but Youtube just has way to much compression to make even the 1080p look good IMO. Just too many compression artifacts on screen. They need some sort of 1080p+ level that lets these be shown in real high quality.

There's a cool article at Polygon where they talk with the developers about how they applied what their learned from Fuse and applied it to Sunset Overdrive.

The game looks fantastic, a shame it's Xbox One exclusive.

That seems weird to mention Fuse as this game looks more like a direct descendant from the DNA of Ratchet & Clank.

The biggest clue of this just being fanboy dreaming is putting The Last Guardian in there which has become the Unicorn of never to be seen titles.

So...the upgrade to the full unlock costs $50. But from the wording on the PS Blog post its seems this is treated not like a sale item but the free games you get with the sub. If the PS+ sub ever lapse you lose access tot he game. I really hope this is a miscommunication on their part...

I mean a list without Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight is simply incomplete IMO.

The extra mission from Black Flag that let you play as the chick from the Vita game was average. Xbox players didn't miss much.

If Hennig left on good terms she would have made a public statement saying so.

The big impression I get out of your post, and particularly the quoted line, is that you really don't understand how the industry works. Your claims are nothing but conspiracy theories based on flimsy "evidence" and misunderstood observations of the relationship between jobs and press releases in the industry. You're connecting the wrong dots for all the wrong reasons.

Ignorance is bliss  "Mr Insider".

They refuted the being forced out rumor directly.

However, that doesn't mean people can't just leave after disliking changes mandated by Sony or ND heads.

It is about the right time for there to be turnover at the studio anyway, any large studios will have departures. I think it was a combination of disagreements, along with contracts expiring and wanderlust. Anyone who has worked at ND are prime candidates for poaching too, it's no surprise that everyone who left already has a new job lined up.

I also suspect that there was turmoil over whether or not Nathan Drake would be the main character in U4.

Oh please you say to me to show proof. Look at the simple series of events and use common sense. You don't publicly announce a huge game like Uncharted 4 and stick Hennig's name front and center when you do it to let people know who's making it. Then a few months later she's just gone with no pubic post about loving her time at ND but its time to have new experiences etc etc.. Then several other key people leave. So spare me the "its bullshit" comments. Also ND statement "refuting" the force out means nothing but PR spin. If Hennig left on good terms she would have made a public statement saying so. You guys can stick your head in the sand if you want.

There's been a rumor floating around for a while that says we'll be playing GTA 5 on the current-gen consoles before this year's E3. I'm still hoping that's true.

Quote from: leo8877 on April 24, 2014, 04:55:23 PM

No one else thinks U4 is being rebooted after all the major players leaving?

No. Don't confuse accepted job offers (the clue for people like Hennig is how she went directly into a new job after leaving ND) with trouble in the ranks. Sometimes you just want to do something new after having worked on the same game series for many years. The voice actor may have been removed as a result of contractual or scheduling problems with his new opportunities. Star Wars is a powerful license, one that can trump many other things.

Hennig was forced out.

My point is that all the "Titanfail" comments and "MS desperation price cuts" are just silly. The real desperation seems to be on the part of the PS4 crowd to somehow paint the XB1 (and by extension, Titanfall) as some sort of system in dire trouble, when it's clearly not. In fact, given the higher price point and limited number of markets, it's doing extremely well.

Here's a great article pointing out why sales numbers can't be taken at surface value.

I find that a pretty poor article. The only thing of value is the shipped vs actually sold point. The last one about how Titanfall wasn't supposed to be a game changer/system seller is laughable and total spin(like most of the points). Microsoft has done everything in their power since last E3 to make it into one for Xbox.

It'll probably sell better on the 360 than the XB1, plus it was made by a smaller staff than a lot of AAA teams (like Infinity Ward or Irrational) so it shouldn't need to sell as much to make its money back.

Probably not for EA since Microsoft seemed to do all the marketing and hype for them in attempting to sell Xbox Ones.

I'll try to stay out of this one (I've already made my view clear on DX12), but I'll say this: For Brad's sake, I hope he was either misquoted or taken out of context.

The only way the quotes make sense is if they are about the PC were DirectX has been a bone of contention with developers for years as becoming to bloated and inefficient. Hence we get the announcement of Mantle and now DX12.

He's not saying Xbox One sucks he's simply pointing out that on the technical specs level there is a clear difference. That's the simple truth that many continually try to distort. Does that automatically mean the PS4 will "win" and have better games? No of course not.
20  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Arrow on: March 29, 2014, 12:16:08 PM
Much as I like the show they have so many story threads it seems like more get diminished and forgotten. Malcom Merlin pops back alive with the secret father link but then poof he's gone. The city politician that's running for mayor who moonlights looking like scarecrow(don't know if that's who he's actually supposed to be) while working with Slade but he's disappeared too. Also they kinda wasted Summer Glau as a guest by having her just bat a few eyelashes and trade some barbs with Oliver. The writers could do a better job planning the story out and not leave so many dangling plotlines.

I got the Sony Gold Wireless ones and I've been happy with them. They are pretty much plug and play on the PS4, PS3, and work fine on PC too. They sound good and fit well. For $99 bucks I think they are a good buy for a Playstation gamer(and PC too)

Until this happens for either platform I will be still disc for major games. I don't live where there's really fast internet so a 20-40+ GB game will take me a long time. STEAM's done this for years so I don't know why both of these new console's shouldn't be able to.

I find it funny that people won't buy Titanfally because it's multiplayer-only.  I can understand the preference for playing a single player game (I'm usually in that camp), but saying that a multiplayer game doesn't have enough meat without single player is silly.  I find it easy to play a multiplayer game like Battlefield many, many times longer than I can put up with their mediocre single player.

I remember buying the first Starsiege: Tribes 15 years ago as my first multiplayer-only game and that felt risky, but these days I'm surprised more games don't do it.

Same. I've gotten hundreds of hours from the Battlefield games going back to BF 1942 playing only MP.
27  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [xbox 360]Games with Gold on: March 10, 2014, 08:42:55 PM
That's a pretty weak straw man argument he makes. So yea you get to keep playing the game even if you stop paying for Gold on your Xbox..oh and you will also lose online, and access to all the apps/services that are behind the paywall. How many are going to do that? All of these console platforms frankly pretty much require the subscription part if you really want to use them how they were designed.

Titanfall is EXCLUSIVE on the Xbox One among consoles.

The 360 says Hi. Maybe next time.

I could say the same about all those indie games just listed on PSN - most of those have been on PC forever. However I constantly see those as being held up as examples of PS4 "exclusives." Guess that Sony PR works pretty well too.

Was I trying to tout those as PS4 exclusives? Hmm I don't think so dude. Nice try though. Maybe next time.

When do the PS4 exclusives start rolling out?   I really want to spend more time with the system, but so far the exclusives have mostly been over in Xbox One's corner for me (Ryse, Titanfall, Dead Rising).

Yea that Titanfall exclusive...I guess all that MS PR does work on people thinking its only on Xbox One.

PS4 did 322k over the weekend for the Japan launch.  Seems decent but not amazing.

Here's how it compares to other console launches there

1998.11.27 [Sega Dreamcast] (29.800) - 101.490 (3 days)
2000.03.04 [Sony PlayStation 2] (39.800) - 630.552 (2 days)
2001.09.14 [Nintendo GameCube] (25.000) - 133.719 (3 days)
2002.02.22 [Microsoft XBox] (34.800) - 123.929 (3 days)
2005.12.10 [Microsoft XBox 360] (29.000 / 39.795) - 62.135 (2 days)
2006.11.11 [Sony PlayStation 3] (49.980 / 59.980) - 88.443 (2 days)
2006.12.02 [Nintendo Wii] (25.000) - 371.936 (2 days)
2012.12.08 [Nintendo Wii U] (26.250 / 31.500) - 308.570 (2 days)

Not unexpected considering how the Japanese home console market has shrunk over there.

You can't leave out the Grandmother/Duchess. Her couple of one liners and facial expressions she gets every show are some of the best stuff on TV.
