Overhyped?  How the hell can the best game to ever come - that will be all things to all people - out be overhyped?
Do you know how good this is going to be?  11 is going to be the average score!

I, too, was having fun with Prince of Qin until I ran into a game ender (the General needed to advance the plot was behind locked doors which remained inaccessible).

Blade and Sword remains in my backlog but is one that can be added to the list.

"Another was that while you could not transport live camels by air, you could transport dead ones. Can't remember for the life of me why you might need to transport dead camels, but the rule was there."

That was in place for the planned (and never released?) expansion pack: Campaign for North Africa - Necromancer.

14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Recharging health - Yay or Nay? on: June 09, 2008, 03:47:57 PM
Ideally, in what form healing would be handled would depend upon the game world.  I'm absolutely fine with resting, spells and/or magic elixirs a la Baldur's Gate because it's part of the D&D rules.  Other fantasy based worlds can certainly follow suit.  I can also buy into the advanced med armour that regenerates your health in a sci fi setting.
What requires a suspension (ok, more of a suspension) of disbelief is when you can auto-regen, take potions, or for that matter take multiple shots in modern or historical worlds.  I wouldn't be adverse to a game where you could be dead or at least seriously hampered by getting shot once - as long as the AI also played by those rules.

If OO comes back, whether with a fully backed up database or as just a message board requiring me to register and "start at 0" all over again, I'll be back gladly.
If OO doesn't come back for whatever reason, I certainly won't hold a grudge or complain about a 'fiasco' as I lose a free service that was great while it lasted.

Either way, I will continue to lurk & occasionally post here and at QT3 just as I've done for years now; and I will continue to gravitate towards whatever sites have discussions that interest me.  When I look at things pragmatically, OO doesn't owe me anything tangible, and I give them my appreciation for providing an entertaining source of information and leisure.

Why do people say ATM Machine?

The ones in my neighborhood growing up were all called "MAC Machines," for Money Access Center.  That makes more sense.  I am going to a central location to access my money via a machine.

An automatic teller machine is neither automatic nor tells.  Discuss.

A friend of mine just calls these titless tellers... don't discuss.

In our house (other than PC) we have: GBA, GC, PS2, and DS.  PS3 is in the budget for June.  Factors included:

1 Blu Ray wins HD format battle
2 RRoD
3 PS2 catalogue / at least partial backwards compatibility (I'm going for the 80Gb version)

This is very timely.  Thanks.  I am looking at the PS3 in the May/June timeframe and PS2 BC is an important part of the decision.  Not that we have a very large library but we only got the PS2 a little over a year ago and still play the games quite a bit.
The Blu Ray and upconverting capabilities are what I'll use to sell my wife on the idea, however.

No, I mean "rewarded" in the "not turned into salt like poor Lot's wife" sense.  My point was that Lot should've been punished for the twin transgressions of a) offering his daughters to rapists and b) sleeping with them, whereas Lot's wife's only sin was, as far as I can tell, looking over her shoulder.

Wasn't her real sin disobeying an order?

You really want to send a message to the IOC?  Boycott the games.  Don't attend and don't watch them on TV.  The millions, if not billions, lost in revenue would send a message they can understand.  A few protesters making the torch relay difficult?  Meh.  Affecting the green lining of their pockets?  Message delivered.

How else do you expect people are going to get the message other than fucking with the flame? It's the most visible symbol of the games before they are actually held and therefore the best way to generate interest and news stories.

Which is why I predict that every future relay will be protested by some group or another.  Instant, world-wide coverage for your cause.  It's just too good to ignore anymore.
I think that downplays the impact of China's human rights abuses. They are expansive and absolutely brutal, and to look past it you have to have some severe idealogical blinders on, be they Maoist or capitalist.
I doubt that very many people around the world will be upset about London hosting the Olympics, and I just can't see protests on this scale in the torch relay.

I don't think it downplays the human right abuses so much as it up-plays the visibility that disrupting the Olympic torch relay offers.  I'm not suggesting that there will be a world-wide, coordinated effort to protest animal rights (for example).  I do, however, fully expect a fragmented response where there will be five or six different causes choosing to interrupt the procession as their way of getting attention on the world stage.

Just one person was turned into salt:  Lot's poor unnamed wife who had the temerity to look back at t3h passing asteroid's devestation.

This proves the bible's veracity, as there is definitely salt in the middle east.

Edit for more snark:

Lot's wife was turned into salt for looking back at Sodom, but Lot goes delightully unpunished (and, in effect, is rewarded) for:

Quote
In Gen. 19, when God decided to overturn and destroy the five cities of the plain, he sent angels to rescue Lot and his family. The men of Sodom sought to rape (in some translations, meet) the angels (19:5). Lot offers the men his daughters instead, whom he says are virgins (19:8 ), but the men are not interested.

and

Quote
Lot left Zoar and retired with his two daughters to a cave in an adjacent mountain. In Gen. 19:30-38, Lot's daughters incorrectly believed they were the only people to have survived the devastation. They assumed it was their responsibility to bear children and enable the continuation of the human race. On two subsequent nights, according to the plan of the older daughter, they got their father drunk enough to have sexual intercourse with them. By him each became pregnant. The first son was named Moab (Hebrew, lit., "from the father" [meh-Av]). He was the patriarch of the nation known as Moab. The second son was named Ammon or Ben-Ammi (Hebrew, lit., "Son of my people"). He became the patriarch of the nation of Ammon.

Can we please get this taught in public schools?  Please?

So basically, God offed Lotts wife, and let him do it with two hot and horny young chicks who just wanted to get him drunk and have sex.

Hah!  Stupid Christian settled for only *two* virgins.
