Knowing EA's track record, they will eventually declare that sales did not meet expectations and then promptly disband Maxis.

I keep wondering why they don't stab all those walkers through the chain link fences. That seems like an easy way to clear the area.

LOL, I was thinking the exact same thing! Merle's stick on a stump would have been perfect for that.

163  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors begin. on: February 21, 2013, 10:31:29 PM
Maybe I am so old now that I am no longer in Sony's target demographic, but after yesterday's press reveal, I have no motivation to get a PS4. Hell, what little info they did reveal made it LESS appealing to me:

1. Tepid, at best, statement about backward compatibility (not a deal breaker but would have been nice)
2. Current PSN purchases and saved games will not be able to carry over to the PS4
3. No pricing info, no SKU info, not even a mock up model for display
4. This is the big one for me. This whole social network integration is a MASSIVE turnoff for me. The last thing I want is to broadcast my gaming habits all over the online world, spamming Facebook and Twitter with posts every time I do something. And this notion of being able to look in on other gamers live while they play games is both unsettling and creepy. I'm assuming Sony will give the user full control over just how much social interaction you can allow, but it's a distracting headache when all I want to do is play games.

I get that it's an evolving landscape when it comes to gaming. The alleged real time demos that were shown were impressive for the most part, but other than that, I didn't see anything that would make me want to get one. There's so much emphasis on what I think is a lot of useless chrome when all I want to see is compelling hardware that is simple and easy to use and games, exclusives most importantly, that make you want to play them.

Maybe Microsoft will be different, but I fully expect an equally uninspiring reveal of the next Xbox.

Oh well...*sigh*

Geez, that is tragic on an epic scale. What the game is compared to what it could have been is so mind-numbingly sad.

They have also expanded the Talking Dead aftershow to one hour. Of course that means you have to endure 30 more minutes of Chris Hardwick. icon_razz

This is probably a stretch but here goes. Any of you with the Wizard's Edition, would you consider selling the plush Drippy doll? My daughter would love that thing but no way am I going to pay the ridiculous prices the whole package is going for on eBay ($300 to $400).

Some thoughts after 6 hours (just got to Al Mamoon):

The bad
-  Probably the only RPG this generation that I honestly cannot think of a negative thing to say about it.  Been racking my brain...nothing comes to mind.  That's a good thing.

It's a trivial thing I guess but I wish the spoken audio was more consistent. The english voice acting is quite good and I find myself not pressing buttons to skip though the dialog. However, there are times when text boxes will appear along with the spoken audio and then will stop and all you get is just the text boxes. It would enhance the immersion in the game if the spoken audio was heard through all the text box sequences. Like I said, just a trivial thing to me. Otherwise, it's a fantastic, cinematic game.

Poor Alex Smith. This generation's Steve DeBerg.

Unbelievable how Kaepernick ran every which way through the Packers defense. Then Crabtree goes crazy. Then Gore goes off. Great display of offense.

More details coming out about the shooter. He was a 24 year old ex-school employee who was fired. His mom worked at the school. Both his parents were also found dead.

Just beyond tragic...

Any of us who have young kids should take an extra moment today to hug them and tell them how much we love them.

My heart just aches for those kids who died and the parents who are going through one of the most unspeakably terrible events in their lives.

I downloaded it. Basically it's Bookworm meets Street Fighter.

Have you played Bookworm Adventures?  Any comparison?

I have not played Bookwork Adventures before but looking at the screenshots, I don't think Writer Rumble is as complex a game. WR takes the basic Bookworm game and adds a much more frantic time element so you have to find words a lot faster. At the same time you are making words and killing off monsters, or your opponent in the head to head matches, your character is getting hit as well. In that regard, it's like a Street Fighter game.

Totally agree with that assessment of the actor playing young Adama. If anything he reminds me of an overly caffeinated version of Freddy Prinze Jr. from the ghastly Wing Commander movie.
179  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome on: November 18, 2012, 07:10:53 PM
It's been really good so far. The only criticism I have is that Adama and his co-pilot aren't paticularly deep characters. They're corny stereotypes up to now. Also, dialog is often over the top cheesy, with an over abundance of "frak" this and "frak" that. However, the battle sequences are really well done and the overall look is great. The old school Vipers vs. the original Cylon raiders is really cool to see for those of us who grew up watching the original series.

SyFy is crazy for not developing a series around this.

In Knights of P&P, is there a way to get rid of party members or change their class?  I just unlocked the Hunter class, but can't for the life of me figure out how to get rid of or switch the class of any of my existing party members.  The Paladin is completely worthless, and I'd like to replace him with something.

I believe in the castle north of the Default City, there is a shadowy character who can dump characters for you.

*Speaking of which, is that bloated walker that Rick hacks up, is that maybe a walker that ate Laurie's corpse or something? I wasn't really clear on that.
*Any idea what tiny thing Rick picks up? I assumed maybe Laurie's wedding ring, or a finger?
Spoiler for Hiden:
The walker with the full belly probably chowed down on Lori. But I thought that Rick picked up the bullet that Carl had fired. We didn't see Carl shoot Lori. Finding that bullet might mean that he didn't.

Spoiler for Hiden:
During The Talking Dead after show, Greg Nicotero, who directed the episode, confirmed that the bloated zombie in the boiler room had eaten Lori's corpse. Also, the object Rick picked up was indeed the bullet Carl fired into mom's head.

185  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: MLB 2012 Season on: October 29, 2012, 05:20:54 PM
The difference for me this run is that I really appreciated it a lot more than 2010. The first one was just awesome because it had never happened before and it was a surprise the way they caught fire at the right time. This time, the pitching, defense and clutch hitting just came together in an awesome display of synchronicity that was a sight to behold. Sure they got a few lucky breaks, but the bottom line is that the starting pitching was incredible when the pressure kept ratcheting up. The defense was lights out, especially Crawford and Blanco. The hitting was beyond clutch. Scutaro was just automatic in RBI situations. Even last night, when Theriot was on second and Scutaro came up, I just knew that he would come through.

Looking back the 2012 Giants overcame so much stuff, from Wilson blowing out his arm, Melky getting suspended, Panda going on the DL for long stretches, and everyone assuming the Dodgers would win the pennant after all those big trades. I'm going to remember this season for a long time and really savor this run. Just incredible.

My review is up!

http://gamingtrend.com/

Yep - it's the front page banner.   As far as how long it took - I spelled it out in the review.  I went 100% stealth and it took me just over 20 hours.   I'll have my review for the 360 version later this week where I slaughtered every man, woman, weeper, rat, dog, and innocent whale oil canister later this week.   Just a hint - it's just as good.  smile

Good detailed review. One very, very minor thing tho. In the section where you list the actors who did the voices, did you man Carrie Ann Moss instead of Carrie Fisher?  icon_wink

While I don't really post in this thread, I have been reading it and staying up to date with everyone's stories.

However I did want to pop in here to say that I accomplished a momentous activity in my life. Yesterday ( Sunday), I ran my first half-marathon, which is just over 13 miles. Definitely the hardest thing I have ever tried, and was a mental battle more than anything. Five years ago, there was no way I could ever have attempted something like this. Just really excited that I am at a point in my life at 44 years old, that I am as healthy as I have ever been.

My finish time was 2 hours, 28 minutes, but really the important thing is that I survived and am still able to walk afterwards.

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered Omen from their website. All their games are 10 dollars off right now with free shipping-- I think. Their website is doing very strange things at the moment, but I was able to place an order for $35.

My daughter is fully into Greek mythology now so she'll get a real kick out of this game.

I played it for about an hour. The touch controls are okay. Definitely playable. The only thing that is unfortunate and not necessarily a negative is that since I've played it on the Xbox previously, the graphics look much more impressive on a TV compared to the iPad screen. You lose a little of the great detail and sheer impressiveness of the visual style going to the smaller screen. Otherwise, it's still the same awesome game.

I just have to say that in a world where we are constantly bombarded with images of violence, whether through TV, movies, video games, to the point where it often no longer registers emotionally, it's stuff like this theater shooting that just makes me utterly depressed and sad that people can be so unspeakably callous and brutal to each other.

Wherever you are, make it a point to go hug a loved one as soon as you can and tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

I was a bit surprised that San Jose was even in on Weber. A couple of weeks ago, there was someone who posted on the hfboards that he claimed he saw Weber and his agent in town with Doug Wilson. Most people were like "suuure" but with the mention in the past day or so that the Sharks were in the running for Weber, I guess that guy really was telling the truth. I wonder how Wilson would have restructured the team if Weber was signed by the Sharks. Maybe the rumors of Dan Boyle to the Rangers for Gaborik (ugh) were related.

I agree. They figured out a creative way to stay within the existing CBA rules and still future proof the deal. It'll be interesting to see what kind of animosity this creates between the big market vs. small market teams while the new CBA deal is being negotiated.
