Whoa, that is awesome, and SO incredibly fortunate considering what the outcome could have been.

Time to get back on the wagon!!

My review is up!

http://gamingtrend.com/

Yep - it's the front page banner.   As far as how long it took - I spelled it out in the review.  I went 100% stealth and it took me just over 20 hours.   I'll have my review for the 360 version later this week where I slaughtered every man, woman, weeper, rat, dog, and innocent whale oil canister later this week.   Just a hint - it's just as good.  smile

Good detailed review. One very, very minor thing tho. In the section where you list the actors who did the voices, did you man Carrie Ann Moss instead of Carrie Fisher?  icon_wink

While I don't really post in this thread, I have been reading it and staying up to date with everyone's stories.

However I did want to pop in here to say that I accomplished a momentous activity in my life. Yesterday ( Sunday), I ran my first half-marathon, which is just over 13 miles. Definitely the hardest thing I have ever tried, and was a mental battle more than anything. Five years ago, there was no way I could ever have attempted something like this. Just really excited that I am at a point in my life at 44 years old, that I am as healthy as I have ever been.

My finish time was 2 hours, 28 minutes, but really the important thing is that I survived and am still able to walk afterwards.

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered Omen from their website. All their games are 10 dollars off right now with free shipping-- I think. Their website is doing very strange things at the moment, but I was able to place an order for $35.

My daughter is fully into Greek mythology now so she'll get a real kick out of this game.

168  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: Bastion out for the iPad on: August 30, 2012, 04:23:21 PM
I played it for about an hour. The touch controls are okay. Definitely playable. The only thing that is unfortunate and not necessarily a negative is that since I've played it on the Xbox previously, the graphics look much more impressive on a TV compared to the iPad screen. You lose a little of the great detail and sheer impressiveness of the visual style going to the smaller screen. Otherwise, it's still the same awesome game.

I just have to say that in a world where we are constantly bombarded with images of violence, whether through TV, movies, video games, to the point where it often no longer registers emotionally, it's stuff like this theater shooting that just makes me utterly depressed and sad that people can be so unspeakably callous and brutal to each other.

Wherever you are, make it a point to go hug a loved one as soon as you can and tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.
172  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2012 NHL Off-Season on: July 19, 2012, 10:26:53 PM
I was a bit surprised that San Jose was even in on Weber. A couple of weeks ago, there was someone who posted on the hfboards that he claimed he saw Weber and his agent in town with Doug Wilson. Most people were like "suuure" but with the mention in the past day or so that the Sharks were in the running for Weber, I guess that guy really was telling the truth. I wonder how Wilson would have restructured the team if Weber was signed by the Sharks. Maybe the rumors of Dan Boyle to the Rangers for Gaborik (ugh) were related.
173  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2012 NHL Off-Season on: July 19, 2012, 09:08:30 PM
I agree. They figured out a creative way to stay within the existing CBA rules and still future proof the deal. It'll be interesting to see what kind of animosity this creates between the big market vs. small market teams while the new CBA deal is being negotiated.
174  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2012 NHL Off-Season on: July 19, 2012, 08:24:45 PM
Holy crap. Check out this Puck Daddy article that has an even more detailed breakdown of the terms of the offer sheet. There's some NFL-like money massaging going on in terms of the base salary vs. signing bonus, which pretty much protects the deal from whatever comes out of the new CBA. As much as Nashville NEEDS to match the offer sheet for the sake of their fans and their commitment to hockey in the area, it's really going to come down to whether or not the Preds' owner has the money and the stomach to pay so much guaranteed money up front.

I think they'll match, but IMO it's crap like this that could very well lead to a scuttling of the CBA talks.

That makes no sense. From the NHLPA's standpoint, this mega-deal shouldn't be a problem. Weber gets the security of both the dollars and years and it sets the precedence for other players to get these kind of contracts. The Flyers GM is an extension of ownership, so he wouldn't have made the offer to Weber without the owner's approval. If the owners collectively bitch about the rules that allow this kind of offer sheet they have only themselves to blame. And if they really have a problem with it, then that should be incentive to negotiate a new CBA sooner than later.
176  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2012 NHL Off-Season on: July 19, 2012, 03:22:24 PM
Here is the breakdown of the deal (from TSN):

"In total, Weber will make $14 million in each of the first four years; $12 million in years five and six; $6 million in each of the next four seasons; $3 million in year 11; and $1 million in each of the remaining years."

LOL, he's the hockey bargain of the century in years 7 to 14.
177  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2012 NHL Off-Season on: July 19, 2012, 05:53:39 AM
The only insane part about that offer sheet is the length. It averages out to just over 7 million a season, but holy crap, 14 years is crazy. He'll be 40 years old by the last year.

The Roku installed easily. Saw some old favorites listed on the free Crackle (Night of the Creeps, the original Fright Night). Also a lot of awful dreck. But hey, it's free.  icon_smile

Some Crackle stuff looked kind of poor on my Standard TV but I'm not sure if it's because it's not HD or because it's just filmed on video or something. The Trenches sci-fi action series looked pretty interesting.

Fandor's stuff looks fine on it and "synching" to my account was simple. I had one freeze up that required disconnecting the Roku's power (since there's no power switch). I guess there's no reboot button per se?

I'd like to add Hulu+ and/or Netflix. Do any of the streaming services carry Homeland? (even just season 1). I guess with the Season 1 DVD/BluRay coming out in August, maybe they're keeping it out of streaming for now? I'm just not up on that stuff. Someone please enlighten me.  icon_smile

Hey Blackjack, I work in Roku QA so if you have any questions, just fire away.  icon_cool

Re: Crackle, yes they content there is not encoded in high bitrate HD so it's not going to look as good as the HD stuff in Netflix or Amazon. Free is free I guess...

There is no power switch or reboot button on any Roku players. This is by design because the box will periodically check into the account servers to keep your channel lineup up to date and do an automatic update whenever we push out firmware upgrades.

Typically, stuff shows up on DVD/Blu Ray before or at the same time as the streaming services. Since Homeland isn't out on disc yet, it isn't available online. I don't believe Netflix has the streaming rights for it so I doubt it will show up there. My guess is that it will appear on Amazon Instant Video.

Good luck to the Kings. As a Sharks fan, it'll be a bit bittersweet for me to see the Kings win the Cup, but it'll be worth it to see Darryl Sutter and Dean Lombardi rewarded for their work. Still have a ton of appreciation for what they did for the Sharks franchise.
183  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2012 NHL Playoffs (Finals) on: June 06, 2012, 10:00:12 PM
LA entered the playoffs with as good a chance as any team. Although they were the 8th seed in the west, the reality is that they very easily could have entered as the 3rd seed. The difference in the Pacific conference from Phoenix in first and LA in third was only 2 points.

Momentum, matchups and luck do play a big part, but the Kings are far from your typical 8th seeded team.

I pay for both because I can and I have no problem with it. Just because you can't and are forced to choose one or the other seems like the reason why you have to validate your choice by being critical of the other.

The fact of the matter is that the Xbox Live experience is better thought out, laid out and easier to use as a service than Sony's half hearted attempt. Yeah, it's great that Sony is throwing all these free games to users, and I'll certainly download all of them to get maximum value out of my subscription, but that's just a way to distract people from the reality that Sony really needs to completely redesign their online experience in order to compete with Xbox Live.

The Sony presentation was WAY better than Microsoft's. It's kind of interesting to me that watching the MS presentation, it felt like a bunch of marketing weasel-bots trying to sell me on stuff I didn't want or didn't have any interest in (outside of Halo 4 and Splinter Cell). Plus they didn't even bother trying that hard to disguise the fact that they SO want the Xbox to be a media portal first and a game console second. At least Sony's message was more gamer centric. Their games just seemed so much more compelling and interesting. Even the AC3 demo felt unique. Hell, even the Wonderbook thing was mildly interesting. I know my 8 year old daughter would eat that book of spells stuff up in a heartbeat.

For me, the ranking of who "won" so far:
1. Ubisoft
2. Sony
3. EA
4. Microsoft and their weasel-bots.

I can't wait to see what Nintendo has in store. They'll either blow us all away or crash and burn hard.

That was a terrible presentation by MS. They opened with a bang with Halo 4 and Splinter Cell and then it was all downhill from there. The non-gaming stuff just did not interest me at all. COD BlackOps 2 seems kind of cookie cutter boring. That was probably Microsoft's weakest E3 presentation ever.

I'd be pretty pissed too if he just badly injured one of the players on my team with a wreckless hit.

Congrats to the Kings, they were clearly the much better team. I'm still baffled how Phoenix even got that far.

Being upset is one thing, which is well within their rights considering the borderline nature of the hit. It's another thing to bombard the ice with thrown objects which put all the players, coaches and refs at danger.

Totally agree with your assessment. It was the weakest season in quite some time. Although Colton was a mean spirited jerk the entire time, the show really went into the toilet once he got airlifted out. Once it got down to the 5 women, I really did not care who won the season, although the person who did certainly deserved it.

To me, the producers completely blew the whole "one world" concept by separating the contestants into men vs. women. I think if the two tribes were mixed sexes, things would have been less predictable and maybe more compelling post-merge.

Next season looks interesting. Will take place in the Philippines, with three tribes, including three contestants from past seasons who exited the game due to medical reasons, which pretty much opens up the possibility of Colton and his crazy brand of nastiness stressing everyone out.
