Let us know how long the battery charge lasts. It's nice to get an idea about real world use conditions.

Oh, and I'd also be interested in seeing some low light or night time photos.

Congratulations though. Nice looking phone. I've always appreciated Apple's attention to industrial design.

Just ordered a 256GB 7 Plus.

Reading various reviews, it sounds like the camera is about on par with the Galaxy S7/Note 7 camera, which is what I was hoping for.

I wonder if there are any theories that no one dies. There are several ways this could realistically happen. Sudden walker heard or maybe they somehow manage to get the upper hand. Who knows, but it's an acceptable outcome if you ask me. They somehow escape and the stage is then set for total war.

If that were to happen, the shark would have jumped so hard, it'd be in orbit.

I watched the live event online and boy, Apple sure does an expert job at being pretentious. I had to chuckle because as far as I can tell the camera is now about in line with my Galaxy Note 4. Only Apple can hype features that are a couple of years late.

That being said, the camera is THE most important thing to me. Two years ago, I switched from being an iPhone person to the Samsung Note 4 because the camera simply blew away the iPhone's camera at the time. While the switch to Android didn't bother me that much, I still missed the aesthetic simplicity of the iPhone. So as long as the iPhone 7 camera is on par with the Note 4 I'll definitely switch back.

I was debating phone cameras with my co-workers yesterday.  Here's an interesting article comparing the Galaxy S7 (same camera as Note 7 I believe) and the iPhone 6S.

http://www.greenbot.com/article/3060209/android/smartphone-camera-shootout-galaxy-s7-vs-iphone-6s.html

Sounds to me like professional (or more serious) photographers would prefer the iPhone (even more so now in the 7 where you will be able to output RAW), but the S7 has better low light performance and gives better (for the most part) looking shots straight up.

Well, I'm far from being a pro but the game changer to me is that the Samsung phones do a much, much better job taking good photos in low light, night time, and in zoom mode. Mind you, when I switched to the Note 4 I was coming from an iPhone 5 so the difference was quite dramatic. I've seen low light photos taken with an iPhone 6 and while better than the 5, visually it clearly was inferior to the Note 4. The other thing that was obvious to me was that the color saturation was much better on the Note 4. Colors looked more vibrant and rich. I find that the iPhone photos have more muted colors. Now, which one more accurately reflects reality is probably a different debate, but every time I show photos I take with my Note 4 to people they always comment how great the colors look and how the night time shots looks so much better than the iPhone.

One feature that Phil Schiller made a big deal about on stage was the bit where pictures can now be taken where the foreground object, like a person, is in focus but the back ground is out of focus which creates a nice effect that highlights the foreground object. Well, the Samsung phones have had that ability for the last couple of years. You have to download a free plug-in from the Samsung app store to get it, but it's not a new smartphone feature. As much as I've loved having the iPhone in the past, Apple has been a few steps behind Android phones for years, but if you are fully invested in iPhones then you don't really know what you're missing unless you switch.

But like I said, the camera is the most important thing to me. If the iPhone 7 Plus now brings the camera on par with Samsung, I would gladly switch back. The commotion about the earphone jack doesn't really bother me much.

**I wrote the above and posted it, then I read the article your linked, Rittchard, and it pretty much mirrors my feelings, although in my experience photos of people look pretty natural to my uneducated eyes.

This is a really weird game. Actually, it's not much of a game as it is a technical system. The programming behind it is very impressive considering the countless permutations of planets and biology possible. The graphics are cool and there is definitely a sense of sci-fi wonder, but the story seems to be highly minimalist. The main problem to me is that while the environments are countless, you do the same thing on every planet. Mine resources, inspect landmarks, scan the biology, rinse and repeat. You are alone in this big colossal universe with really not a whole lot to do, and without any sort of interaction with other players, the monotony sets in fairly quickly, despite how pretty it all looks.

Sean Murray was so in love with his tech that he failed to realize people want an actual game to go along with it.
9  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [Netflix] Stranger Things on: August 03, 2016, 04:51:49 PM
Couple of things.

I think how much you like the show is directly related to how connected you are to the 80's. For me, I grew up in the 80's so it holds a lot of emotional impact and memories, thus I think Stranger Things is pretty damn fantastic.

That said, I do agree that Winona Ryder was the weak link in the show. She's a pretty one note character through the entire series. Not much depth to her which is surprising since all the other main characters are so interesting.

I will actually get this. I played it when it first came out on XBox360 and played the hell out of it. Problem is that it's so massive and time consuming I eventually stopped because I was distracted by countless other games at the time. If I were to go back to it, I'd probably be completely lost in terms of story and progress. If a remaster comes out on PS4, with better looking graphics, I would not mind starting over, and maybe even finishing it this time.  icon_razz

My brother is an architect/designer and he ended up moving to Hong Kong about 6 or 7 years ago because he could not find work in the U.S. He worked for a firm in LA for several years but got frustrated because of the politics and BS pecking order dynamic in the industry. It also didn't help that the U.S. economy was really down back then so there wasn't much investment in new building. Anyhow, he moved to Hong Kong because the Chinese economy was booming there and there were tons of projects available. The clients were also a lot more receptive to innovative design ideas too so my brother got to work on some really interesting projects.

However, he has decided to move to Vietnam because the Chinese economy has been slowing down in the last year or two and business has dried up. He keeps talking about the impending economic bubble, which is not a good thing for the world economy but a lot of people feel it will happen. Vietnam, of all places, seems to have a lot of design opportunities right now, so he's following the money.

I never ran into any issues knowing where to jump or climb. It felt pretty intuitive to me. The ledges and hand holds were pretty obvious visually and the locations were small enough to figure out quickly in the few instances where it was not obviously apparent where to go.

Man, this game is flat out the best looking game I've ever seen. The graphics are incredible, and it truly is like playing a movie. The dialog is incredibly well written and believable and I can totally picture someone like Jeremy Renner or Nathan Fillion playing Drake in an actual Uncharted movie.

I loved the quiet scene at Drake's house and his conversation with Elena. There is an awesome game within a game moment there that just blew me away.

I am tired as hell this morning but I want to get right back into it tonight.

I was a bit surprised that the big event happened so soon. I sort of expected it to be in the season finale but I guess that's the result of my own cynicism regarding the Walking Dead finale.

Anyhow, a good episode, but I was really thrown for a loop by the revisiting of Theon's  sister and dad. It's been so long since the show had anything to do with that area that it took a moment to figure out where that was. Even more disorienting was the confrontation on the rope bridge. Apparently the guy who tossed dad into the seas was Theon's brother. I didn't recognize him at all and I don't recall seeing him in any prior episodes. Maybe those of you familiar with the books can elaborate on this because I was highly confused.

The Bolton boy's sadistic ruthlessness knows no bounds.

I am ready to see Jamie run his sword through Jonathan Pryce's gut.

I really enjoyed Tyrion's scene with the dragons and the CGI actually looked good.
26  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Game of Thrones Season 6 (Spoiler Alert!) on: April 25, 2016, 10:05:33 PM
IMO, the issue of screen time for characters has been a problem for quite some time. It's simply impossible to give enough room for everyone to develop in hour long episodes, so often the flow of the show jumps all over the place. A side effect of that is it's really hard to figure out how much time is passing from event to event or even from character arc to character arc. I love the show, but really the episodes need to be 90 to 120 minutes.

I really loved the moment where Brienne pledged her service to Sansa. She and Podrick have been chasing after her for so long it was nice to finally see that resolution. All those people who were mean and cruel to Sansa are going to get their fill of angry Brienne.

It was a good intro episode to the season, although it didn't feel like much happened.

I've actually been surprised at how entertaining it is. I wasn't so sure after the first episode of this season but I really liked the second one where they meet the survivalist ranger and his family. Last night's was okay. Not great. The fight on the edge of the sand up high next to the beach was kind of lame, especially the bit with Nick the druggie son. I do like the character of Strand because you just don't know whether to trust him or not. It's interesting that they are focusing a lot on the moral decisions that the group is confronted with, like who to rescue and who not to. Not sure what to make of the plane crash survivors. I didn't watch and of the web episodes so I have no vested interest in those two characters but I am assuming at least the Asian lady is still in the mix? It would be pretty lame to bring along her story via the webisodes only to limit her to last night's episode never to be heard from again.

I have not seen it yet, but based on your impressions I get the sense that a lot of significant story elements got edited out. The disc/digital release of the movie is supposed to include about 30 minutes of additional footage so maybe a lot of the disconnected or disjointed aspects of the story will make more sense in the extended version.

Or it may not make a difference and it's still all about Zach Snyder's inability to reign in his fanboy nature of letting things get out of control. paranoid

34  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] The Walking Dead Season 6 (Careful there will be Spoilers!) on: April 04, 2016, 08:22:01 PM
This was the most unstisfying season thus far. Between the nonsense with Glenn "dying/haha fooled you", the neutering of Carol, the incessant "you have a choice" pacifism of Morgan, and just unbelievable acts/decisions of stupidity by a collection of characters who should know better, the cliffhanger ending was the pinnacle of everything that sucked about the season. The explanation by Gimple and Kirkman during the aftershow was an insult to the people who have been watching since season 1. The show's success has really deluded them where their ability to tell the story has taken a back seat to their desire to be clever.

The only faint saving grace for me was Jeffrey Dean Morgan's portrayal of Negan. His dialogue is well written and he is such a charismatic and interesting character that I do want to see more of him. As for who was on the receiving end of Lucille, I could care less at this point, and social media being what it is, the whole world will know long before the next episode airs, so screw you Gimple and Kirkman. finger

36  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] The Walking Dead Season 6 (Careful there will be Spoilers!) on: March 28, 2016, 09:33:57 PM
As Rittchard points out, the second half of this season has been royally frustrating with all the illogical and reckless behavior displayed by characters who should know better. I guess the writers want to show how becoming over-confident and comfortable in their situation results in questionable decisions but it goes against everything that they have been doing the last 5 seasons for the most part. The group stupidity is jarring from a viewer standpoint. It was almost like a Benny Hill chase skit watching half the regular cast go chasing after Carol and Daryl.

Maybe it was just me but did it feel like that last voice over at the very end was tacked on? Almost like after the producers saw how much commotion resulted from Glenn's infamous dumpster "death" they wanted to put that last line in to make sure internet fandom doesn't have a collective brain hemorrhage.

As for who gets the bat at next week, my money is on Daryl or Glenn. Still not convinced Carol will be whacked because despite her new found angst, she is still the most complex character out of the three and I feel there is still more to explore about the character. Daryl seems obvious but since he is not in the comic, it might be too appealing to the writers to keep him around to give them freedom to write whatever they want with him. I still think Glenn is a likely candidate for the obvious comic book parallels.

I really doubt Rick, Michonne, or Carl are in danger. I can't remember where I saw it but I recall Kirkman saying that the the whole Walking Dead comic story is really about those three characters. Everything revolves around them. I wouldn't expect them to stray from that basic premise in the show.
37  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Batman vs Superman (Man of Steel 2) on: March 28, 2016, 09:18:06 PM
Zach Snyder has become the next Michael Bay. Visual director who has no discipline in his craft and no one telling him how to reign things in. Just make movies that are bigger, louder, longer and darker. Movies written around big action set pieces instead of creating a cohesive competent story first.

That being said, the average movie viewer eats this kind of stuff up.
38  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Battlefront 3 finally announced! on: March 25, 2016, 07:04:29 PM
ARISE!

Is anyone still playing this? So, I've gotten into this game recently and am only at level 6 right now. While the game looks and plays great, I absolutely SUCK at it. Doesn't matter what multiplayer game mode I try, my kill to death ratio is awful. I'm not much of a shooter fan so I don't play these types of games that much but holy crap I didn't expect to be this bad. As far as I can tell a big reason is that I am at such a low level with mediocre power ups and weapons while most of the other players are kitted out with better stuff so I get killed much faster than I can kill them. I thought there would be some sort of mechanism for matchmaking that would sync up players of roughly similar levels, but I guess it doesn't work that way. Honestly, it's a bit discouraging to think that I have to simply keep getting my ass kicked over and over to eventually earn my way up the level progression and unlock the better star cards and weapons.

For those of you putting in time on this game, am I missing something or is this how the game basically works?
39  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC, PS4, XB1] Just Cause 3 on: March 22, 2016, 04:52:41 PM
And...I finally finished the game, including the Sky Fortress DLC missions.

On the one hand, I really like the game and it says a lot to me that I stuck with it to the end since I rarely ever finish games. The open world stuff is great. The freedom of going anywhere (for the most part), and taking out settlements was a lot of fun. Interestingly, the actual story missions felt like a side distraction and were actually boring. The final boss fight was an annoying pattern based letdown with the game finishing literally with a trigger pull. There were a few frustrating missions, mostly where you have to take out waves of enemies who overwhelm you if you don't destroy key vehicles first.

On the other hand, I went through moments, particularly near the end where it felt like a real chore to get through the game. So many places to take out and they all felt the same. Attack, take over, rinse, repeat. The challenges were so frustrating after a while, especially the wingsuit challenges. You have to be some sort of ninja flyer to get 5 gears on all those.

The Sky Fortress DLC added a jet pack to the wingsuit which in my opinion really makes the game way too easy. The ability to fly indefinitely and more importantly, evade guided missiles pretty much took all the challenge out of how you approach enemy bases, towns and outposts. The air base carrier was fun to mess with but the story was incredibly cliche and throwaway. Just a loose excuse to fly around and blow it up.

The graphics are really good but holy cow the slowdown when things get busy is inexcusable (PS4).  I guess the XBOne version is the same.

I'll keep the game installed since I bought the season pass and there are two more DLC sets coming. After that, I can't see myself ever playing the game again.
