Sam Vimes.
2  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Resume samples from Hell on: March 03, 2006, 04:43:53 AM
I was a friend of the hiring manager at my last company and it was amazing to see how many resumes came across his desk with suggestive email addresses.

"Okay, I spelled everything right and made sure I included references. Now to add the email adresss. sexxxy69girl1978 at"

Do you have goats named Nic Cage and/or Michael Jackson for when Lisa Marie grows up?

And straying even farther off topic, has anyone seen the newest Lisa Marie video? The woman's two years older than me yet she's prancing around like she's Christina Aguilleraabanannamrama in some rediculous getup. It's such an obvious grasp for relevancy and 'tween appeal that it's pathetic. The song's not even that bad but whoever's marketing her needs to be dragged out back and beaten with an iPod.
4  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Spidey's got a new costume... [Spoiler] on: February 26, 2006, 07:36:31 PM
Does the black suit have nipples and a codpiece? I don't really need another excuse not to see the third movie after the debacle of the second film but anything relating it to Joel Schumacher would only strengthen my resolve.

That was one of the finest things ever put to film, and complettely removes it from consideration in this thread.

I'd have to agree there. Deep Blue sea was mostly lame but that was a great scene.

And just for the sake of adding another movie no one's mentioned, I'll throw out that one with George Peppard and John-boy from the Waltons.  Battle Beyond the Stars or somesuch.  Bad star wars ripoff.
Hey I think I remember that flick. One of the guys was called "Space Cowboy", and i don't remember it being bad at all - no star wars mind you but a highly enjoyable flick (granted i was probably in still in grade school when I saw it)

Battle Beyond the Stars is a loose retelling of "The Magnificent Seven" (even has Robert Vaughn) which in turn is a retelling of "The Seven Samurai." I own The Magnificent Seven, have seen Battle Beyond the Stars a few times and have never seen The Seven Samurai. I know some cinephiles (is that a word?) would commit me to Hell for that.

I'd vote Star Wars Episodes I-III as the worst films based on what they did to destroy the Star Wars franchise (for me anyway.) They're so cold and overprocessed it's like watching an automated assembly line where every once in awhile a fight breaks out. How bad is it when the only character you can emotionally attach to is R2D2?

I used to own the Woody Allen comic mentioned in this thread:

Wonder if it's worth anything.

Got clocked by a brick from my house, just like I did back in 1984.

Nice interface though.

9  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / What's your life rated on the MPAA rating scale? on: October 15, 2004, 10:53:01 PM
NC-17. I cuss, drink, and have sex.

At the same time.
10  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Beer - best and worst? on: October 13, 2004, 03:36:16 AM

I dig:

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale but I have to snort Afrin before I drink it or the hops sets off my allergies and I get more stuffed up than a Thanksgiving turkey.

I also dig:

Cisco Brewers Whale's Tail Pale Ale
Anchor Steam
Amstel when I'm on a diet

I'm allergic to hops as well, which is kind of a bitch given my deep, abiding love of all things beer.

Sierra Nevada Pale is a great beer, as is Anchor Steam. Sam Adams Boston Lager is always a good choice and their Oktoberfest is really nice. I picked up a six of Goose Island Oktoberfest and was disappointed. Their other beers are usually very good.

Some of the pumpkin ales coming out this time of year are very good, including one called "Ichabod" by New Holland that's not only great but wins points for the Washington Irving reference. Thirsty Dog, the local brewpub, just put out their own pumpkin and my wife reports it's mighty tasty. Three locations in Ohio!

I like IPAs better than most other styles of beer. Goose Island has a good one on the cheap. A couple bucks more gets you Kalamazoo's Two Hearted Ale, a great, great beer that wins points for the Hemingway reference.

Lately I've been buying Honey Brown from Dundee because they've got an eight pack that includes one bottle each of their new Pale Ale and...damn, some other style, and it's only five bucks.

Bad beer? Jeez, where do I start? If a Nascar driver mentions it in victory lane, avoid.
11  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Joe Pesci hasn't made a movie in six years. on: October 13, 2004, 02:47:59 AM
I've got the Goodfellas DVD. It's one of the ones you have to flip over to watch the last 20 minutes or so.

Along that same line, I encouraged a friend to watch "A Time to Kill" after he expressed interest in film's based on Grisham novels. When he came back to me, he was bewildered at how it just seemed to start in the middle of a trial. He pieced together what it was all about but said the movie really needed more exposition.

Yeah, he had started on side two. He's still never seen the beginning.

Lethal Weapon 4 was bad, but c'mon.

13  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / LOST - TV Show on: October 10, 2004, 02:19:49 PM
I'm hooked for now. Like others, I wonder where it's going and if there's going to be a huge letdown. Lost is also filling my primetime drama fix as CSI: NY has been a letdown. (Though this past week's ep was pretty good.)
14  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Anyone else having problems with Gone Gold? (Pt. 2) on: October 10, 2004, 03:20:20 AM
Ah, here you all are.

Funny how really empty that Internet thing seemed to get once GG was no longer around. Hopefully it's not gone for good.

Thanks to Mr. Morton for his help locating this refugee camp.
