Also, did you buy the Xbox One primarily for exclusives? That is, was one of your main purchasing decisions the ability to play Titanfall? Well, if you bought the Xbox One at launch at full price in anticipation of Titanfall, Microsoft has something just for you.

A giant middle finger.

Yeah, with consoles, and well any tech, you're always running the risk that a better deal is right around the corner from when you buy, but that one does feel a bit
too soon.  Like if that was a November deal I wouldn't bat an eye.

If it was an April deal I wouldn't bat an eye. At least those that early adopted got to play the game for a month before other people get it for free. But to do it before the game is even released is a slap in the face to those that bought the console at full price under all of the "Titanfall is going to be great, you need this game" hype. And then they just give it away for free before it's even released.

Developers should get used to the word "native" this generation, because people will be looking for it.

Which is disappointing. The first question about a game should be "Is this going to be fun?" Not - "What resolution does it run at?"

That conversation has become WAY too prominent, and it's honestly ruining the hobby right now. This three way dick-waving match between the two consoles and PC has overshadowed the actual games.

As a long time PC gamer, the conversation is even more irritating, because every PC is going to have a different level of graphic quality for the same game. And seemingly nobody cared that there was this disparity across systems - a disparity, I might add, that is MUCH wider than the disparity between the two consoles.

The difference being that the level of graphic quality on PC is related the amount of money you spent on parts for each PC. Cheaper/less powerful parts (graphic card, etc) means lower quality graphics. In the console wars case the XBone is $100 more expensive but offers less quality visual gaming at the moment. That's why it's a big deal.

As for exclusives, MLB The Show and Uncharted are the only two exclusives on either system I have the slightest interest in. Everything else I play is cross-platform.

It's hard to justify a second system if your first system was the PS4. slywink

I keed, I keed.

89  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Annual Installments discussion on: February 04, 2014, 04:18:40 PM
FIFA usually changes quite a bit in terms of gameplay each year. FIFA 14 isn't even the same game as FIFA 13 in terms of how the players move and the physics of the game. Scoring strategies have had to adapt quite a bit to be successful.

NHL has been a bit stagnant over the past couple of iterations but before that they made some decent changes between versions.
90  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Annual Installments discussion on: February 04, 2014, 03:49:01 PM
Since my gaming calendar year basically revolves around the releases of new NHL, FIFA, and MLB games if they weren't yearly installments I'd buy maybe two games a year.

Since I was marveling about this last week for the XBone, I will report that today the best buy site is showing me whether or not a ps4 is in stock at my local store (it is). I'm amazed this is happening so quickly after launch for both of these consoles. Has demand plummeted since the holidays or are they just making that many more than all previous launches? January NPD numbers should be interesting.

My buddy finally got his hands on a PS4 yesterday after a month of trying. They're popping up fairly regularly around here but according to the guy we talked to in the store, are gone within 20 minutes of coming through the door. XBones were on the shelf to be had though (about five, so not like a ton of them or anything).

As of today you can't get a PS4 in my area (all the big stores show 0 stock).
94  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1] Ryse on: January 29, 2014, 02:58:27 PM
According to a conversation I overheard between a customer and employee at my local EB last night Ryse will be coming out for the 360. It just got added to EB's systems as a future release (no set date).
95  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 2890 Days until launch. Which system are you getting? on: January 29, 2014, 02:50:18 PM
I'm playing Tomb Raider for PS4 and the 60fps is a game-changer for me. It's silky smooth. I can't go back.
96  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tomb Raider on: January 29, 2014, 02:48:03 PM
Traded in a couple games to get this for $8 for PS4 and it's stunning. I played a bit of it on the 360 and this version is miles ahead graphically, and the 60FPS is silky smooth.

Cool effect with the controller LED "flickering" like a flame when you're holding a torch. I was in a dark room and it made it really added to the atmosphere. $60 is too much if you've owned a previous version, but if you can get it via trade or at a discount it's well worth it.
97  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 2890 Days until launch. Which system are you getting? on: January 24, 2014, 08:48:04 PM
Both systems are doing well enough so far that no one should be overly defensive. If you're an Xbone owner and love the voice controls and what Kinect has to offer, that's awesome. If you're like me and prefer a more old school specialized video game system where you still navigate through menus using thumbsticks like some sort of savage barbarian, that's ok too. 90% of the games will be on both systems anyways.

Just made it to Division 6 in my FIFA 14 season so I'm anxious to see how badly I get spanked on this level.

Will also continue my NBA 2K14 career.
100  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 2890 Days until launch. Which system are you getting? on: January 24, 2014, 07:08:06 PM
Note that does not mean "not doing well". It's doing very well. But I can't see how anyone can say it's doing as well as expected, with the expecation being non-stop sell-outs.
101  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 2890 Days until launch. Which system are you getting? on: January 24, 2014, 07:07:11 PM
Expectation: There won't be any units available on shelves for a long while due to demand.
Reality: There are units readily available on shelves in January.
Conclusion: Not selling as well as expected.
102  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 2890 Days until launch. Which system are you getting? on: January 24, 2014, 06:31:39 PM
Ya, I can still reserve an Xbone at any store I want online right now. All the local Best Buy's and Future Shops got a shipment of PS4's in on Wednesday and their website lit up like a Christmas tree showing stock was available. They were gone by lunchtime.
103  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: So it's been a few yrs so I have to ask again.. on: January 24, 2014, 02:08:50 PM
I had asked this question to a family member who happens to be a doctor ("What is normal pooping rate") and his answer was "whatever is normal for you". Meaning if you've been a 3-4 per day guy for as long as you can remember than that's ok. If you've been an every other day guy, then that's what you are. Concerns arise when you start significantly deviating from your norm. For example if you were a three a day guy and then all of a sudden start dropping to twice a week, etc.

105  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: NBA2k14 on: January 22, 2014, 08:52:43 PM
Got drafted by the Suns and we're 1-13. Our defence is terrible. But I've moved my way up to the 6th man on the roster. And not even on Rookie. On Pro, or whatever the next difficulty is. Averaging 10.5 points per game in about 20 minutes of court time per game.
106  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors are put to rest. on: January 22, 2014, 03:33:52 PM
Drought?

I have too many games to play and not enough time.

FIFA 14 and NBA 2K14 are taking up 90% of my time which means I'm lucky to squeeze in a few minutes a week with AssCreed IV or Killzone.

I'm so glad my next purchase isn't until MLB 14 in March.
107  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Weekend Playlist -- 1/17/14 on: January 17, 2014, 06:36:39 PM
FIFA
NBA 2K
AssCreed

and maybe

Killzone

Took a FIFA break this weekend and started a MyCareer in NBA2K14 and fell in love with that mode. Completed a chapter in Killzone and a few missions in AssCreed IV as well.

If you want an Xbone in my area every big box store has them. In fact they are so plentiful they've re-opened online orders and in-store reservations in some cases. Conversely, my buddy has been trying to find a PS4 since Christmas with no luck at all.

111  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: MLB2k series is finished on: January 07, 2014, 03:49:38 PM
MLB 2K was decent enough to tide me over during my 360 days. But I've now gone PS4 and a huge reason is that The Show is the only exclusive I really cared about. I'm all about The Show this year. Can't wait!
112  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: on: January 04, 2014, 01:57:15 PM
FIFA FIFA FIFA FIFA and more FIFA.

Maybe some Assassin's Creed 4 but ... FIFA.
113  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: on: January 04, 2014, 01:51:09 PM
I wonder if this approach will actually grow their business though. Anecdotally me and five friends were all 360 guys and would have bought 360.2 but switched because of all the Kinect bloat. When I was waiting in line to try and grab a PS4 everyone there waiting for a PS4 (there was about 7 of us) were ex-360 guys switching because we didn't want Kinect.

There doesn't seem to be much movement the other way from PS3 to XB1 so I'm wondering if their fan base is going to end up being a subset of their 360 base.

I still think they should have offered a Kinect-less version for 399. I can think of 7 more sales alone personally in my circle of friends if they did that. Obviously my observations don't necessarily reflect worldwide trends but it can't be that far off the mark. We were all die hard 360 guys despite the red rings and all that stuff and yet the XB1 wasn't even an option to consider.
114  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / [FS] Fallout 3: Official Game Guide on: January 03, 2014, 02:36:24 PM
I just found the official Prima Game Guide for Fallout 3 in a box in my house. Problem is that the game is long gone so I have no use for it. Any game guide collectors out there that want this? It's in mint conditions, barely ever used (flipped through a few times but mostly has sat in a enclosed box for the past few years).

Here's a link to the same guide on Amazon for reference:

$5 Amazon Gift Card (to cover shipping) and it's yours.

Great article, I agree with most of it.

The single thing I love the most about the XB1 that wasn't really mentioned is the ability to jump between apps and resume seamlessly. This is a total godsend when your game time is limited and you have two toddlers and a wife running around. If I'm playing and the kids decide they want to watch Netflix, no problem. Pause game, Xbox Go To Netflix - they're watching Tinkerbell in about 10 seconds, and daddy's not worried about his game.

Note - I have heard issues with game resumes on occasion, but to date I haven't experienced any problems.

Wait wait wait. You can play games while the kids are awake? That sounds....wonderful. If I even thought about turning on the PS4 while my kids are awake my wife would probably file for divorce.

I bought one for WarCraft 3, thought the stuff was cool for like 2 days and then they sat in a closet untouched for years. Never bought another one again.

I love it. And I'm an extremely casual soccer fan. Like only watch major tournaments casual.
