I'm assuming you've all downloaded the latest patch and linked your PSN id up with http://infamouspapertrail.com/ to get extra Karma?
82  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (03/24) on: March 24, 2014, 01:20:46 PM
I impulse bought Infamous last week so nothing this week. Waiting for PS4 version of Diablo III, whenever that is coming.
83  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: on: March 24, 2014, 03:36:42 AM
Played for two hours tonight. Did only a handful of missions. Too busy clearing out DUP.

Launching off cars to hulk smash hapless enemies is the new best thing ever.

Ok I'm really confused as to why the reviews were so mixed on this game.   It's easily a 90 range game, and unless it collapses at the end it could be a system seller.    Does it get really repetitive or something?

I'm a bit worried about that. Looking at the world map it seems it's just a whole bunch of districts that on the surface have the same list of things to do. Awesome, fun, explodey things of course.

We'll see how the main story missions progress....
86  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: on: March 22, 2014, 10:00:21 PM
Sorry not revolt, showdown. I just freed Queen Anne district. On to the Space Needle!
87  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: on: March 22, 2014, 07:15:13 PM
I think I missed the "tutorial text" for this but how low does a district have to go with regards to DUP control before revolt? 50%? All the way to 0%?
88  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: on: March 22, 2014, 04:58:27 PM
I'm more annoyed that the Tomb Raider case is not the same size as the others and doesn't fit properly on my shelf.

I don't know if it's a *true* "system seller," but it definitely made me feel better about purchasing a PS4. Between this and Titanfall, life is good.

I don't think this title on it's own is a system seller. I actually think The Show will move more systems but having both infamous and The Show out a month apart is a huge 1-2 punch for the PS4.

I know sports games aren't big around here but The Show is a huge deal and big seller with sports fans.

Anyone else find the game hard? I'm dying, a lot. Then again I only completed the first city mission (Queen Anne district) and haven't unlocked anymore powers.
By powers do you just mean smoke, or the subset of smoke powers?  You really need to have the full compliment of skills for a power if you don't and should work towards that.  The other actual powers don't change the difficulty much since you can only have one equipped at a time.

Ya I meant smoke. Until this thread I didn't know you could get more than smoke.

Also, are shards plentiful enough that you can upgrade everything or do you need to be choosy as to which subset of powers you want to max out?
91  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: on: March 22, 2014, 12:26:51 PM
I don't mind the LED. Playing Tomb Raider in a dark room is pretty fun when the LED flickers like the torch you're carrying and/or the muzzle flash from your shots light up the room. When done right it can be immersive.
92  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: on: March 22, 2014, 12:25:05 PM
Update: My disc ejecting problem started when I moved my unit to the other end of the shelf. Noticed it was sticking out more than before (the PS4 is slightly deeper than the shelf). It was kind of leaning forward and putting more stress on the rubber bumper under the eject button. Rumours online are that this bumper is putting stress on the eject button because it's pretty much attached to it. I pushed the system back in deeper to the shelf and it now sits more level and the problem hasn't happened since.

Could be a coincidence but keeping fingers crossed. Warranty is for a year so I'll keep monitoring.

90 minutes in and game is amazing. I'm already ignoring missions in my quest to liberate the district I'm in. Gonna have a lot of fun with this one.

Also, it's purdy.

Anyone experience the issue where their PS4 turns on randomly when powered off, spits the disc out, and then won't let you put it back in until you unplug it? Seems to be a common problem and now my system is affected. May need to ship back for replacement.

Does that do it if you shut it down, or is it just suspended?

Shut right down.

I'll be doing something in the next room and suddenly hear the eject beep and when I check the disc is popped out, the machine is on, and the drive gears are intermittently grinding away and it won't accept any discs.

Looks like it's happening to people during gameplay as well but I've only seen it while powered down.

This would make two units I personally know of already with serious issues. My friend had to return his because it kept randomly powering down.

So glad I got my PS4 at "low" price of $399 before they jacked them up. Sucks that games are 69.99 up here now though.

Also MLB 14 The Show has been announced to be out on May 6th. This is the only exclusive I care about.

So since I have this preordered, and as noted above I'm giddy, what's with the 21st release? That's a Friday, right?

Get used to it. Fridays are the traditional release day in Europe, and with the increase in digital distribution, publishers will be moving towards releasing on the same date across the entire world. With a choice between Tuesday and Friday to release a game, Friday makes more sense with it being the beginning of a weekend.

Ugh, Friday releases are awful. My best gaming time is Mon-Thurs after the kids are in bed. I don't game when the kids are awake and weekend nights are usually spent with the wife.

Also, did you buy the Xbox One primarily for exclusives? That is, was one of your main purchasing decisions the ability to play Titanfall? Well, if you bought the Xbox One at launch at full price in anticipation of Titanfall, Microsoft has something just for you.

A giant middle finger.

Yeah, with consoles, and well any tech, you're always running the risk that a better deal is right around the corner from when you buy, but that one does feel a bit
too soon.  Like if that was a November deal I wouldn't bat an eye.

If it was an April deal I wouldn't bat an eye. At least those that early adopted got to play the game for a month before other people get it for free. But to do it before the game is even released is a slap in the face to those that bought the console at full price under all of the "Titanfall is going to be great, you need this game" hype. And then they just give it away for free before it's even released.

Developers should get used to the word "native" this generation, because people will be looking for it.

Which is disappointing. The first question about a game should be "Is this going to be fun?" Not - "What resolution does it run at?"

That conversation has become WAY too prominent, and it's honestly ruining the hobby right now. This three way dick-waving match between the two consoles and PC has overshadowed the actual games.

As a long time PC gamer, the conversation is even more irritating, because every PC is going to have a different level of graphic quality for the same game. And seemingly nobody cared that there was this disparity across systems - a disparity, I might add, that is MUCH wider than the disparity between the two consoles.

The difference being that the level of graphic quality on PC is related the amount of money you spent on parts for each PC. Cheaper/less powerful parts (graphic card, etc) means lower quality graphics. In the console wars case the XBone is $100 more expensive but offers less quality visual gaming at the moment. That's why it's a big deal.

FIFA usually changes quite a bit in terms of gameplay each year. FIFA 14 isn't even the same game as FIFA 13 in terms of how the players move and the physics of the game. Scoring strategies have had to adapt quite a bit to be successful.

NHL has been a bit stagnant over the past couple of iterations but before that they made some decent changes between versions.
114  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Annual Installments discussion on: February 04, 2014, 03:49:01 PM
Since my gaming calendar year basically revolves around the releases of new NHL, FIFA, and MLB games if they weren't yearly installments I'd buy maybe two games a year.

Since I was marveling about this last week for the XBone, I will report that today the best buy site is showing me whether or not a ps4 is in stock at my local store (it is). I'm amazed this is happening so quickly after launch for both of these consoles. Has demand plummeted since the holidays or are they just making that many more than all previous launches? January NPD numbers should be interesting.

My buddy finally got his hands on a PS4 yesterday after a month of trying. They're popping up fairly regularly around here but according to the guy we talked to in the store, are gone within 20 minutes of coming through the door. XBones were on the shelf to be had though (about five, so not like a ton of them or anything).

As of today you can't get a PS4 in my area (all the big stores show 0 stock).

I'm playing Tomb Raider for PS4 and the 60fps is a game-changer for me. It's silky smooth. I can't go back.
120  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tomb Raider on: January 29, 2014, 02:48:03 PM
Traded in a couple games to get this for $8 for PS4 and it's stunning. I played a bit of it on the 360 and this version is miles ahead graphically, and the 60FPS is silky smooth.

Cool effect with the controller LED "flickering" like a flame when you're holding a torch. I was in a dark room and it made it really added to the atmosphere. $60 is too much if you've owned a previous version, but if you can get it via trade or at a discount it's well worth it.
