What is the appeal of playing this again on a console?

I get to play one of my favourite games on my couch on a bigger screen in HD. No-brainer for me.

I've found I can only play this game an hour at a time, tops. Any more than that and it's just too stressful.  icon_biggrin

I find the same. After an hour I'm tense/burned out and I need to play something else.

Oh my. I'm hooked again. Controller works amazingly well. Better than I ever thought they could pull it off. Glorious HD. From my couch.

Less clicking, more streamlined. Just as fun as on the PC.

This may be as close as I'll ever get to gaming perfection.

I'm justifying this by telling myself that I didn't buy the Reaper of Souls expansion, which is still $30. So I'm really only double-dipping for half of the cost, which is justifiable in terms of this being a definitive edition. Plus it will be worth $30 to not have to figure out the status of my Battlenet account again. I feel the Caine pain on that front.

Same here. I skipped the expansion knowing I was getting a console version anyways.

That sequence is weird. I was definitely able to get the keycard before the generator. However, the bloater sequence played out differently based on my approach.

My first few attempts I'd set up traps on the ramp and try to kill the bloater as he came up the ramp. But that wasn't working because he'd still catch up to me from behind while I tried to kill the Stalkers blocking the hallway. So in later attempts I tried to just sprint down the hall using the shotgun to clear stalkers and when I turned the corner to the hallway with the keycard door there was a bloater waiting for me. It's almost like the game positioned the bloater so I would always have to face him, no matter what my approach.

Hay Day does this but it's so unobtrusive and optional. Basically once in a while you find a ticket lying on the ground that offers you the chance to watch a clip for 1 diamond (a form of in game currency). If you click yes you watch a 30 second ad for another app and then the diamond gets added to your total. The diamonds are not necessary to playing the game and you can ignore the tickets completely.

So after seeing the side by side of Destiny on the PS3 and PS4 I sold my PS3 and am buying a PS4 tonight. smile

On the plus side it means I just "finished" several games in my backlog but now I need something to tide me over until Destiny actually launches.

So what game should I buy for the PS4?  I am leaning towards Infamous because it seems like the one I am most likely to be able to play with my kids watching (ages 8 and 6) because while their is a fair amount of violence you can choose to be good and save people.

What else should I consider?

Infamous is great.

If you're looking for kid friendly the LEGO Marvel game is really fun.

Not kid friendly I'd go with Last of Us or Tomb Raider or Assassins Creed.

If you're into sports FIFA and MLB The Show are pretty great.

It's an older title, but I just picked up Cook, Serve, Delicious! and I'm completely addicted to it.  The more freeform way you can progress through the game, choosing your own new foods, food upgrades, and equipment, is a welcome change compared to the super structured way most time management games have you advance.  If you've ever enjoyed a Sally's Spa type game, I highly recommend it.

Oh man, I sunk hours into that game. I think I got my restaurant up to five stars. It's been a while though, may have to fire that back up again.

Catheter made me laugh.  Rest of the trailer did not.  Dumb and Dumber was the only Jim carrey movie that I ever liked.

Looked like a lot of rehashing the original.

Might catch this on netflix.

I'm on the other end. They are basically paperweights at this point. I've gotten some recent mileage out of The Show but for whatever reason Infamous 2 didn't suck me in and my Xbox One hasn't been turned on in probably three months.

I don't even know what's on the horizon the look forward to... NHL 15, I guess?

I'm with you on this. The first few months of the year were great in terms of gaming content for me (FIFA, AssCreed, Tomb Raider, Infamous, MLB The Show). But now there is nothing on the horizon this year that I'm really interested in except for The Last of Us and NHL 15 (Batman was there, but delayed now).

$10 hike across the board for all new releases in Canada.  icon_frown

Ugh. Yeah, I think I'd have the same mental block as you at $70. It somehow makes it seem like "almost $100" instead of "almost $50."

Yep, that and with the 13% tax rate here in Ontario it's about $79 when it's all said and done. The game has to be a no-doubter for me to pay that type of cash.

At the old 59.99 pricing I'd be in. With the new 69.99 pricing Sony put in place, it's a wait until later. The $10 jump has crossed some kind of mental barrier for me that is making me REALLY selective about new release purchases.

Heh, just checking back here for the first time since I posted. Didn't realize my choice of words would cause such a discussion. To clarify I didn't mean I was forced to use the product if I bought it, I meant that in order to purchase an Xbox one I had to support MS's Kinect business strategy, which I had no interest in at all. I wanted a new Xbox but didn't want to support the direction they were taking because Kinect was bundled in, thus "forcing it upon me" (maybe "down my throat" was too melodramatic). Consumers like me voted with their dollars and MS is making a change because of it. I consider it a win.

For those who are now saying they're interested in an Xbox One without the Kinect, do you realize you could have gotten one with the Kinect for $450 with a free game and a year of Xbox Live a few weeks ago?  Effectively making it a $390 console plus a game.  Are you really that adamantly against Kinect that not having one is a better deal than having one with free games for the same price?

Yes. To me it was a statement, even if it was $390. I didn't want Kinect and was not willing to buy a system with Kinect forced down my throat. Voting with my dollars and all that.
30  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: May 13, 2014, 06:14:52 PM
About time, although probably too late for a lot of people. Me and six of my friends went 360->PS4 this gen to avoid Kinect and are very unlikely to own two consoles. If they had done this at launch I would have had a much tougher decision. Actually, scratch that, I would have actually had A decision to make.

Good news for those that are in the market for the console and didn't want Kinect though.

We used to have a ton of sports gamers on here but I think we've lost a bunch over the years. Anybody picking this up today (or grabbed the PS3 version last month)? This is my most anticipated next-gen game of 2014 and I just grabbed my copy at lunch. Can't wait to fire it up tonight. I'll post impressions if anyone is interested.

I'll probably start off by playing some Quick Count games but eventually I want to get a RttS player going since I will now be able to transfer him to future versions of the game.

I'm in tech support so I get the basic steps to check.  it just kills me when they get on the line and won't break from the script even after I tell them that I've already checked all that.

Because if their tech support centre is anything like the one I worked in you get random calls evaluated and your score is based on making sure certain items are checked off the list. Modem straight to PC, checking connections, resets, etc are all part of the troubleshooting checklist. If you miss a step and it ends up being a connection issue after all and that is one of the calls you're evaluated on? Hurts your review which hurts your promotion chances which hurts your hourly rate increase, etc.

So he's like, "Can you please remove the coaxial cable and make sure the wire is not bent." I'm like, "Listen, my box worked fine before I went in and had my service changed. It does not work now that I've had my service changed. I have a hard time believing the coaxial cable magically and coincidentally got bent on the same day I got my service changed." He goes back and types and fiddles around, then resets it one more time and lo and behold it starts working properly.

As someone who spent a year in Cable/Internet technical support in a previous lifetime I feel the need to step in here.

Yes, the coaxial cable can magically and coincidentally get damaged the same day you got your service changed. It happens more times than you think. I've had calls where people complain that their service stopped working immediately after changing their service remotely and it was only after 20 minutes of hard questioning did we find out that they neglected to mention that they moved the box to a new TV and ultimately didn't tighten the coaxial cable enough to get a signal. I've had people refuse to troubleshoot any connection and the problem was they neglected to plug in a key cable even though they INISTED it was done properly.

I was always very adamant that customer check their connections before I do ANYTHING else for them.

"Is your cable box connected properly?"
"Yes"
"Can you actually see that it's connected properly?"
"No"
"Please go and check the connections and make sure everything is tightly connected."

You won't believe how many support calls are solved right there and then. Sometimes rephrasing the question "Is the cable bent?" is enough to have them actually get hands on with the connection.

Bottom line, yes it's insulting to you being a tech-guy but you forget there are millions of people that have no clue. It's hard to tell on the phone right away who's got a clue and who doesn't.

Bound By Flame for me but I'm waiting for reviews. I'm sure The Show is great but I'm just not enough of a baseball fan to plunk $60 on it.

It's now $70 for new releases here in Canada-land. That pushes prices of games over the limit from "sure why not" when it comes to day one releases to "only certain games a few times a year". For me The Show is a $70 game.
