2921  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Is Gamingtrend dying, or we are all just on a break? on: March 26, 2006, 04:53:46 PM
Playing oblivion and graw during most all of my waking moments for the last week definitely lowered my posting average....

no... wait... I don't post that often anyway  biggrin

1) Is there a way to place a marker on the map and then label it?  Otherwise, what's the point of having markers on the map?

2) Does turn undead do any damage or does it just make them run away?

3) Is it possible to rest in the wilderness or only in towns?  I reached a new level and it advised me to rest, but I was in a cave and didn't want to go back to town.

1) no way to label them that I know about.  I just use the markers to guide me when hunting for a cave or whatever for the first time.

2) haven't used the spell, but I think it only makes them run.  Unless you make your own version that does damage as well.

3)you can rest in the wilderness/dungeons if you find a bedroll, and have no enemies around.

Hehe... the other reason for a renewed interest in Graw is Moriarty will be back on campus here in about an hour or so  Cool

Always more fun with the sniper woman on your side!

Ah... now that I've put 40+ hours into oblivion on two different characters, I find myself in the mood to do some shooting sometime soon.

We should have some GRAW action this week.

Ninroots can be found around the edges of water... lakes, ponds, etc.  I've found 14 or so I think.  I've discovered that neat as night vision sounds, I really don't like the blue tinge to everything... hurts my eyes.

For combat difficulty... don't forget there's a slider that you can adjust.  Not sure exactly what it changes since I haven't actually used it yet.

There's just a certain feeling of satisfaction from nailing a goblin with a power attack and watching them bounce off a wooden support post while their weapon and shield go flying.

<sighs>

Got a quest from the fighters guild.  Lets just say I like their take on the rat quest.

Edit: Also playing a rangerish character.  I am really enjoying shooting things, especially from sneak mode.  I shoot a deer as it was running down a slope, killed it, when it stopped rolling its neck was rather obviously broken.

For some reason looking at a downed opponent and seeing exactly where the arrows went is quite satisfying.  I don't particularly recommend using regular arrows vs. undead though.

Wow... got my blade skill up over 10... I'm still rated a novice, but now I can chain up to 3 slashes in a row, and occasionally do an overhand swing.  Before I was just able to do a single slow attack.

Back to doing my impression of a ginzu blender on goblins.
2930  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Oblivion - GOLD - Ships/In Stores 3/20!!! on: March 21, 2006, 05:32:37 PM
I have aquired my copy!  Yay!  Of course I was up all night and am really sleepy right now... so I should wait to play until I rest.

Or... I could drink a coke and play now!
2931  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Live... on: March 21, 2006, 11:53:25 AM
Hmm... got kicked off of live, and now I can't log back in.  Tested the connection and it fails on the MTU test, says that the connection to the diagnostic server timed out.

Wondering if this is something to do with the campus network.  Or if its a live issue.

<mutters>

Edit: yeah... so theres this thing called the internet and you can find out information on it apparently.

Checked the xbox homepage, theres a scheduled matainance going on right now.

Definitely fun times!

And now we know who keeps killing gaming trend...

<stares at depward tml and rincewind>

Edit: Was a good time with papa smurf and knightshade this morning.  We were doing co-op territories with infinite respawns.

I think we managed to get 377 kills on the last try.  Need to get a group of 4 or 5 going on those.

Some more 'bah'... stuck working at the desk until midnite.  Then I have to be up around 7 to make sure everyone is out of the building.  So, no graw for me tonight.

Unless I were to do something silly like stay up until 2am playing.

But of course I wouldn't do that.

Nah... that would be a bad idea... I need sleep.

Or do I?  Cool

Played some 4 player split-screen tonight.  Was okay.  Noticed a little bit of lag to the game.  Didn't try it online though.
2939  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Where are you from?? (Time for one of these threads) on: March 17, 2006, 06:02:30 AM
Middle'ish of missouri.  Springfield.  Spend some time in Jefferson City and Columbia MO as well.

<blink blink> Blazing Angels??  crap.  have oblivion pre-ordered and dynasty warriors 5:empires pre-ordered.  don't have anything left to trade.

Hmm... this will bear thinking on.

Oh yeah.  It is.

In all seriousness.  If I can make on, I'll be playing some tonight.

Chaz: Definitely get in with some of the GT or OO people.  Everyone I've played with has been a blast <no pun> to have in the game.

We've been doing mostly co-op when I've been on, but I'm sure we can do some team stuff, especially if we have 8 people on like we did last night.

<mutters> I really want to play tonight... but I HAVE to get this paper done for tomorrow.

Edit: Coopasonic, join US!!!
2945  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Ghost Recon - Co Op Interest on: March 15, 2006, 02:51:49 PM
Soulchilde:  Yeah thats the one drawback of the co-op side right now.  The variety is a little on the slim side.

With 8 people we can probably do a little team play to break up the routine.  I'm going to try and figure out what map has the attack chopper on it so we can mess with that.  (besides I want the 100 choppers killed achievement)

So, does M often feel uncomfortable when playing online?

Thinking about it now and the kind of people I've played with, I think I've answered my own question.  She probably gets quite a few "OMG!  UR a GRL?" from gaming in text, but when that's said in a squeeky voice through your headset it might be enough to make you want to disconnect right there.
.

I probably chose the wrong word with 'uncomfortable'  more properly, she just doesn't have nearly as much, if any, fun with those kinds of people.

Edit: Booner: hmm... think I've neglected you on my friends list.  I'll fix that as soon as I finish this paper tonight... or during a 'break'  Cool

TML:  Yeah I know exactly what you mean.  The UAV spoils the crap out of you if you aren't careful.

Really appreciate people who can accept a female gamer without making her feel uncomfortable.

Springfield MO.  From what I heard last night we had 4 or 5 tornados touch down around the area.  I was hoping that the early morning classes might be cancelled, but no luck with that

Nothing like being stuck in a hallway with 70odd people for an hour at a time at 1 in the morning

Good thing that we stopped playing when we did tonight Turtle.  About 3 minutes later the tornado sirens cut loose here and we had to head down to the ground floor!

Had fun, even if I apparently forgot to take off the bullet magnet I was wearing.

2951  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / psp memory stick question on: March 12, 2006, 01:01:59 AM
good quality?  I would say 1...

I have equilibrium on my 512 stick, but that's at a lower quality.  Depending on your threshold I would think you could get 2 or 3.
2952  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Ninja Gaiden Black on the 360 on: March 11, 2006, 11:02:59 PM

Unplayable. The game goes from normal framerate to 'dear lord the world is running like you have a rapid fire pause button' to normal again with no warning or reason whatsoever.

In a game that requires perfect timing, you have none of that thanks to poor emulation issues.

Seconded.  Quickest way to lose any enjoyment in a superfast paced game like Ninja Gaiden is to have uneven framerates.

I've also reached a the first mission where I have to go alone at night, and I can't get past this one part.  It doesn't help that the cross comm is buggered in the mission and I have no other support assets.  Not to mention my current save I'm at red health.

There are jammer units by your targets in that one.  They can be hard to see through the interference though.  I found switching between using the night vision and having it off to be useful... it was much easier for me to track muzzle flashes without the night vision.

I've blown my whole team up with a grenade once.  once.

So far only played co-op split-screen.  The first co-op campaign map is pretty fun.  We finally beat it after a number of tries.  I think I've been playing way too many games where you can take multiple hits before dying.  My cover reflex really needs some work.
