2881  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 15, 2006, 02:32:49 AM
Playing the capture the flag maps can be very confined and fast paced.  On the conquest maps you can go for a while without seeing anyone.  During a CTF map you rarely go 30 seconds without seeing/shooting/being shot by someone.  Sometimes all at once.

Edit:  Friday turned out to be a day off from gaming.  Hoping to get some time in this afternoon/evening.  Exactly when depends heavily on when I actually get to sleep this morning.  Gotta love the midnite to 8am shifts.

Unfortunately you can't host a game from what I've seen.  You can do the clan games though.  No idea how that works yet.  I think we'd need at least 4-6 people on to make it happen.

In the meantime, just joining games in progress should work pretty well.  Especially if the first person does a search for low population games to ensure enough room for everyone.
2883  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 14, 2006, 08:37:26 AM
Played some online today.  Was pretty good.  Played more of the campaign and am currently at a loss.

I defend a trainstation from attack.  No problem.  Then the opposition sends a train full of explosives at the station at high speed.  I get 4 guys spread along a track with 50 cal. machineguns.  Then the train doesn't die.  Not sure what the deal is.

Edit: Hate it when I get stuck somewhere that no one does.  <mutters>

If a good number of GT'ers grab this sucker and intend on playing it - and if matchmaking is easy enough to have a group of 8 people or whatever join a game together, then I'm most likely game.  I'm looking for a somewhat faster shooter to complement GRAW.

I'll have to experiment a bit to make sure, but I'm expecting that if one of us hosts a game and then invites everyone else... that should be all the matchmaking necessary.

Yeah, Jarrodhk sent me a msg last night  over live.  My willpower is fading.  If I can play MP with GT/OO folks this will be a keeper.

Damn I feel my willpower fading....sigh

Hah!  If I give in, you must also suffer!

Not sure... I never actually played the demo.  I'm having fun with the single player campaign at the moment.  Can't say I enjoy flying an unarmed recon chopper though.  The controls are pretty nice for the choppers at least.  Vehicle controls work pretty well also.

Looking forward to getting together with people and playing online.  I'm a bit hesitant to go into random servers though.

Edit: I played the campaign and a few of the challenges for about 7 hours. (I love school holidays)  Fun, although I am not as skilled as I would like.  Finally gave up on my current mission for the night as I was getting very frustrated.

Nice thing, all that time, no crashes, no lockups, etc.  After playing Graw and Oblivion, both of which I love, and suffering many lock-ups etc. it was nice to just play without worries.

I really like the weapons so far, although I wouldn't trust me with an RPG anytime soon   Shotguns are fun... kinda hope that Graw decides to add some in at some point.

If the game had split screen and/or co-op I would be even happier with it.  As it is I'll just have to wait to play with you guys online.

Yep... count me into the suckage.  That sniper mission was really starting to make me feel incompetent.
2888  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Ubisoft dumps Starforce on: April 13, 2006, 01:51:53 AM
Bill Harris has an interesting comment on this.  He wonders if they are merely switching to the new scheme available from the creators of starforce.

I did not cry!  That was Moriarty!

She was completely inconsoleable... and promptly shot 3 teammates because of it.

Or was it me that shot 3 teammates.... heck I don't remember... there was shooting and dying... and the crying...

No guilt trip intended.  Just an observation.

That certain people don't play much at the moment...

There are heal other spells in the game.   Can also use these (in theory) to keep NPCs in quests alive.

Yeah, we've been through the campaign missions a lot.  If we can get 6-8 people on again I have every intention of doing some team modes.

Of course the 'last stand at the old town' type is also fun <g>

2900  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oblivion - Horse Armor "Mod" Poll on: April 05, 2006, 08:46:57 PM
I won't pick the horse mod up... but I am intrigued by the other two they are working on.  Mainly because it sounds like there is a quest, or quests, that go along with them.

This confused me a bit too.

Heh... not always on...

Saturday evening should be okay with me.  After 6ish Central.  I've got training all day before that.  Not sure what Moriarty has going on yet.

Glad to have you!  I'm not sure how many times we've run the missions... but I have gotten through all four of them by myself.

Made some progress towards the heavy achievement.  10k kills will be mine!!

Yeah.  I was starting to wonder if I would be able to write a nice little essay on how to get killed 30 seconds into the mission.

Merian says she doesn't shoot people with sniper rifles, it only happens with the m-60... and she'd be using the sniping rifle on the docks  Cool

We should be good for an hour or so around that time Dimmona.

Faide: I'll add you to the list.  Jarrodhk is mine.

Hepcat: will definitely throw you invites when we see you.

Soulchilde, arkon, papa, merian, and I played a bit earlier before everyone had to break off to do other things... and I was forcibly ejected from the 360 so merian could play oblivion.

2907  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Super Mario blocks <> bombs? on: April 03, 2006, 09:09:41 PM
Tell that to Moriarty... after you take the M-60 out of her hands... and probably ought to hide the sniper rifle as well.

Would help a bit if they would give some kind of idea about the timeline for the rest of the co-op campaign.  I'm curious as to what the plan is for that.

Looking at the first oblivion mod, I won't pay for that, however for a set of co-op missions in Graw I would most definitely pony up for 200 pts.  Assuming they are the same level of quality as the first four.  Preferrably with all new maps as well.
2909  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] First Oblivion Mod up on Live on: April 03, 2006, 09:00:45 PM
I like the idea that they are offering mods for the 360.  However, as others have said, no way I'm paying money, especially 2.50, for a simple texture.

Honestly, if they charged 20 pts, or 50 pts I would probably go ahead and do it.  But, I want more actual content before I cough up the dough.

That said, if down the road they do a compilation of several mods for say... 200-400 pts.  I would consider that worthwhile.

Played some Graw this evening.  After I remembered that you cannot jump... and managed to supress the urge to try and loot every crate I saw, it was a lot of fun.  Even if the three of us were royally sucking it up to begin with.

Huh.  I've enjoyed the little I played of it so far.  Really wish they had used more of the 360's potential, but its a solid game for me and moriarty regardless.

Mind you they had better do something more with the next title... it will not be a day one purchase.  Preferably they could put out samurai warriors 2 on the 360... that would be nice

I know that if I get into a fight with one I'm going to be using some potions.
2914  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / [360] GRAW Saturday 4/1 at 4PM (central) on: March 29, 2006, 09:24:31 PM
bah, have a mandatory 'retreat' day on saturday.  otherwise I would love to play.  Depending on when we get back I will probably be very much in the mood to shoot people.

Edit: I have found out that we should be done around 5ish. (central) so if people are still playing I would love to jump in then.

I found the going a bit rougher with my Hand-to-Hand character.  At times it feels nearly impossible to get anywhere against certain monsters.  At the same time I have immense fun fighting things like the ogres.

Which is why I have learned to love the difficulty slider.  If I'm feeling like I'm running full speed into a brick wall I adjust the slider down a bit... when things even out I up it some.

This doesn't address the 'everyone has super gear' problem, but it keeps me from quitting out of frustration with the combat.
2916  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What are you buying this week? (3/27) on: March 27, 2006, 07:28:00 PM
DW5 for the 360... only because it's co-op and I already pre-ordered it.  Otherwise Ghost recon and oblivion continue to occupy far more than their share of my time.

I need help.  I was sent from Chorrol to Leyawiin to do a Figther's Guild Quest.  So I need to find 5 ectoplasm and I know they drop from ghost, but I'm not given a location to get the ectoplasm.  So can someone direct me to a dungeon with a bunch of Ghost?

i found a group of ghosts in the basement of the temple in Bruma...at least 4-5 of them there Cool

Also visit any of the ruins in the world (the one where you need to collect the 10 something for that guy in the Imperial City). They're usually filled with the living-challenged dead.

If you're still having problems finding ectoplasm, don't forget to check the various alchemists.  They frequently have one or two and buying them counts the same as 'finding' them off of ghosts.
