2881  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360 woes... on: April 20, 2006, 04:34:49 PM
That's good to know.  So far I haven't had problems with my harddrive <crosses fingers> but I would hate to lose any purchased items.

Got my box this morning (finally, go UPS ground) so I'll be packing the 360 up and sending it off here shortly.  Hopefully it won't actually take 10 days to get it (or its replacement) back.  I'm really missing being able to play online with you guys.

At least I can watch the friends list from Starwars Battlefront II.  If anyone is particularly inclined we could play that <G>

Edit: <sigh> I have so many games to play other than the 360 ones, but of course the ones I really want to play right now are all 360 games.  This is likely to be the longest 10 days of my recent life.

<drools>

Yeah I can't wait for this one.
2883  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360 woes... on: April 19, 2006, 05:34:40 AM
yeah, I would have gotten the extended warrantee at gamestop... except that I would be lucky to have gotten my 360 by now if I'd waited.
2884  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360 woes... on: April 19, 2006, 02:46:37 AM
Depward: the thought crossed my mind.  Then I looked at my bank balance  smile

Calvin: It's under the 90 day warrantee that they give you.  Otherwise I expect it would be costing me money to have it fixed.

I'm really really tempted to pick up the extended warrantee this time... except that so far I haven't made it past the 90 day mark.   Cool
2885  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360 woes... on: April 18, 2006, 08:40:40 PM
Well since my second 360 gave up the ghost on sunday, I called xbox support and they said they'd send a box out to me.  No problems.  I expected it would be like the first time I had problems: next day get box, send box back, get replacement in 3 days or so.

Unfortunately MS has changed their policy now.  They use standard shipping, which means I won't get the box until thursday or friday.  They said to expect about 10 days from the time I send the box back before I get the 360 back.

So.  Here I am.  No 360 for the next 2 1/2 weeks.  <sigh>  If I'd realized how long it was going to take I would have gladly paid the 15-16 bucks to send it faster.

I'm glad they're fixing it for free.  Since it shouldn't have broken inside 2 months in the first place, I'm a little bitter about the time lapse.

I'd guess that the priority shipping was costing them too much, especially now that the 'shortage' is finally over.

Ah well.  Nothing I can do about it for the moment.
2886  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What are you buying this week? (4/17) on: April 18, 2006, 05:27:31 PM
Don't know about southpark, but springfields are all over the place <g> I live in Springfield Mo. for example.

Yeah, this is my second system.  frown  Time to call and find out if its still under warrantee.

Okay, just got off the phone with MS.  They're sending me a box.  <sigh>  I can't decide if I want to scream/cry/destroy things at the moment.  So I think I'll go with sleeping.
2888  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 16, 2006, 01:54:59 PM
You can't host your own games, but you can request a new server... so if one person did that then invited/had everyone join them, we should be able to get at least a few of us together.

Had some weird thing happen.  Was playing happily online, and then all of the sudden the screen goes dark.  No response from the 360, no sound in headsets.  Rebooted and checked the people I had been playing with, and none of them were on either.  Went back in and tried to start my own game.  Got to the game... 5 seconds later black screen.

Really not sure what's up with this.

Edit: Okay... now I'm thinking that my 360 has decided to croak on me.  I can play for a few minutes... then there's a small 'pop' sound and it gets these nice intermittent vertical lines across the screen.  I hope that MS gave me a 90 day warrantee with this 360 they sent me... cause I'm looking at needing a repair/replacement again.

Depward:  Now you and Moriarty should play the online co-op stuff together.  I'm not that good as that type of game so she's been lacking a partner to go through them.
2890  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 15, 2006, 02:32:49 AM
Playing the capture the flag maps can be very confined and fast paced.  On the conquest maps you can go for a while without seeing anyone.  During a CTF map you rarely go 30 seconds without seeing/shooting/being shot by someone.  Sometimes all at once.

Edit:  Friday turned out to be a day off from gaming.  Hoping to get some time in this afternoon/evening.  Exactly when depends heavily on when I actually get to sleep this morning.  Gotta love the midnite to 8am shifts.
2891  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 14, 2006, 11:31:37 PM
Unfortunately you can't host a game from what I've seen.  You can do the clan games though.  No idea how that works yet.  I think we'd need at least 4-6 people on to make it happen.

In the meantime, just joining games in progress should work pretty well.  Especially if the first person does a search for low population games to ensure enough room for everyone.
2892  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 14, 2006, 08:37:26 AM
Played some online today.  Was pretty good.  Played more of the campaign and am currently at a loss.

I defend a trainstation from attack.  No problem.  Then the opposition sends a train full of explosives at the station at high speed.  I get 4 guys spread along a track with 50 cal. machineguns.  Then the train doesn't die.  Not sure what the deal is.

Edit: Hate it when I get stuck somewhere that no one does.  <mutters>

If a good number of GT'ers grab this sucker and intend on playing it - and if matchmaking is easy enough to have a group of 8 people or whatever join a game together, then I'm most likely game.  I'm looking for a somewhat faster shooter to complement GRAW.

I'll have to experiment a bit to make sure, but I'm expecting that if one of us hosts a game and then invites everyone else... that should be all the matchmaking necessary.

2895  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 13, 2006, 06:34:13 AM
Not sure... I never actually played the demo.  I'm having fun with the single player campaign at the moment.  Can't say I enjoy flying an unarmed recon chopper though.  The controls are pretty nice for the choppers at least.  Vehicle controls work pretty well also.

Looking forward to getting together with people and playing online.  I'm a bit hesitant to go into random servers though.

Edit: I played the campaign and a few of the challenges for about 7 hours. (I love school holidays)  Fun, although I am not as skilled as I would like.  Finally gave up on my current mission for the night as I was getting very frustrated.

Nice thing, all that time, no crashes, no lockups, etc.  After playing Graw and Oblivion, both of which I love, and suffering many lock-ups etc. it was nice to just play without worries.

I really like the weapons so far, although I wouldn't trust me with an RPG anytime soon   Shotguns are fun... kinda hope that Graw decides to add some in at some point.

If the game had split screen and/or co-op I would be even happier with it.  As it is I'll just have to wait to play with you guys online.

She was completely inconsoleable... and promptly shot 3 teammates because of it.

Or was it me that shot 3 teammates.... heck I don't remember... there was shooting and dying... and the crying...

There are heal other spells in the game.   Can also use these (in theory) to keep NPCs in quests alive.

Yeah, we've been through the campaign missions a lot.  If we can get 6-8 people on again I have every intention of doing some team modes.

Of course the 'last stand at the old town' type is also fun <g>

I won't pick the horse mod up... but I am intrigued by the other two they are working on.  Mainly because it sounds like there is a quest, or quests, that go along with them.

This confused me a bit too.

Merian says she doesn't shoot people with sniper rifles, it only happens with the m-60... and she'd be using the sniping rifle on the docks  Cool

We should be good for an hour or so around that time Dimmona.

Faide: I'll add you to the list.  Jarrodhk is mine.

Hepcat: will definitely throw you invites when we see you.

Soulchilde, arkon, papa, merian, and I played a bit earlier before everyone had to break off to do other things... and I was forcibly ejected from the 360 so merian could play oblivion.

Tell that to Moriarty... after you take the M-60 out of her hands... and probably ought to hide the sniper rifle as well.

Would help a bit if they would give some kind of idea about the timeline for the rest of the co-op campaign.  I'm curious as to what the plan is for that.

Looking at the first oblivion mod, I won't pay for that, however for a set of co-op missions in Graw I would most definitely pony up for 200 pts.  Assuming they are the same level of quality as the first four.  Preferrably with all new maps as well.
2918  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] First Oblivion Mod up on Live on: April 03, 2006, 09:00:45 PM
I like the idea that they are offering mods for the 360.  However, as others have said, no way I'm paying money, especially 2.50, for a simple texture.

Honestly, if they charged 20 pts, or 50 pts I would probably go ahead and do it.  But, I want more actual content before I cough up the dough.

That said, if down the road they do a compilation of several mods for say... 200-400 pts.  I would consider that worthwhile.

Played some Graw this evening.  After I remembered that you cannot jump... and managed to supress the urge to try and loot every crate I saw, it was a lot of fun.  Even if the three of us were royally sucking it up to begin with.
