2841  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battlezone PSP?! on: May 05, 2006, 06:38:03 PM
Quote from: "Luke"
Has anyone even confirmed that this is an update/port of the PC Battlezone title?  Everything I've read suggests it's a remake of the 80s arcade vector graphics affair, not the cool, late 90s PC game.

Atari, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATAR) today announced the development of BattleZone for the PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) system, a modern update to the 1980 classic arcade game. BattleZone immerses players in an interactive world with relentless onslaughts of quick, action-oriented battles.

Honestly I'm just as excited about a remake of the arcade game as the PC game.  I remember playing the arcade game back in the 80's.  Nostalgia if nothing else  Tongue

Good deal.  I'm on duty this weekend so I'm not going anywhere out of the building.  Plenty of time to play some games.  Haven't heard Soulchilde aka "James Earl Jones" in the headset for a while  Cool

MrDuck:  I'll add you to the list.

Ron: Excellent.  I'm working on campus all summer so I'll have a good deal of free time and a nice low usage network to play on.

aha!  I knew this thread was lying around somewhere...  played some co-op elimination last night, and went through the missions again for fun.  Love the game.

Anyone?  Anyone?  beuller?

Looking to get some MP Graw going on.  Moriarty feels sad that no one wants to play...
 Tongue

On now... 8:15ish central time.  Stay on for a while at least.

2847  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So Fasa has something Shadowrun related in the works on: May 04, 2006, 08:17:35 PM
mmo?  I'm out then  Cool   I love playing games multi with the guys/girls here and on OO, but other than that I prefer to avoid other people for the most part.  I get enough interaction with people during my job as an RA.

More on topic... Yay Shadowrun!

I wonder if there's a question(s) on that form about weapons  Cool

The service is down for maintinance.  If you go to the xbox.com page it says it in several different languages.  I went and checked when I got booted off of the service early this morning.

2851  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battlefield 2 [360] on: April 30, 2006, 06:47:29 PM
The sniper mission is annoying for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, there are occasions when the remaining sniper for a wave gets stuck inside a building.   That's pretty rare.  That is also the first mission where hot swapping between you 4 different personnel is really important.  Sometimes I still ended up having to get down off of the buildings and search around for the last couple of enemies.  The gps (why gps?) is useful for that.

All in all I enjoy the game, the multi more than the single player, however I really prefer to have at least one person I know playing as well.  Takes the game to a different level.

Besides, I'm not that good at it.  Cool

Thinking about picking up the pc version, but I have a horrible vidcard and no money to upgrade it.
2852  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battlefield 2 [360] on: April 30, 2006, 05:07:30 AM
Yeah, kind of figured that people had gotten sidetracked with other games.

Poor timing on the dead xbox thing.
2853  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battlefield 2 [360] on: April 30, 2006, 01:07:08 AM
So I enjoy the game.  However, 2 weeks off from playing has left me woefully unpracticed.  Nothing like unloading full clips everywhere but into your target.

On a brighter note, I did manage to kill several tanks today, including one very nice rocket-launcher kill as I danced frantically around.  The others were C4 kills.  Very satisfying to sneak up on a tank while it is shooting at your teammates and plant the C4 on it.

So is anyone still playing/want to play?
2854  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oblivion-Tips , Advice and Help-Spoilerific on: April 28, 2006, 08:35:25 PM
<sigh> Got my 360 back and started playing Oblivion again.  Unfortunately I seem to have gotten a bugged quest with my ranger character.

I get sent on the Mystery of Harlun's Watch quest.  When I explore the cave for evidence, the body that is supposed to be there is missing.  I have looked all around the green marker with no luck.  Either the body never got spawned, or it is spawned under the world.  I tried reloading a save from a couple of quests back, but when I got there again, same problem.

Really sucks.
2855  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / It's coming and I can't wait! [Ghost Recon] on: April 25, 2006, 02:36:13 PM
Hmm... well that sucks... I pass the minimum requirements.

I don't need more temptation right now.   biggrin

2857  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What's your number one gaming system right now? on: April 23, 2006, 10:39:37 PM
Voted 360, but since it is somewhere between here and the repair center in Texas I've been playing mostly PS2 and GalCiv2 for the last week.
2858  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Wow, I hated gamespot and EB before but now I really do... on: April 22, 2006, 12:41:58 PM
One of the big reasons I quit working at Gamestop fairly quickly.  I hated being required to ask stupid questions of people all of the time.  That and the insane magazine/trade-in/reserve numbers.  I just wanted to help people find games and do the usual customer service stuff.

Unfortunately the usual customer service stuff seemed to consist of things I would not like as a customer <G>
2859  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What will you be playing this weekend? on: April 22, 2006, 02:08:24 AM
Well I eyeballed MS saga and Warship Gunner 2.... and picked up Grandia 3.

I figure no matter how far I get into it, Moriarty will play through at least once.  If she likes it more like 5 times.
2860  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What will you be playing this weekend? on: April 21, 2006, 07:18:56 PM
Thanks Depward.  I've heard good things about it from other people.  I've just been thoroughly distracted by the 360 for the last several months and haven't much touched the PS2.  (that and having to send It in for repairs too)

Zarkon:  Nope, haven't picked it up yet.  I really enjoyed the first one, and still have fun with the Commander version as well.  Given that, will the review be likely to sway me away from buying?
2861  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What will you be playing this weekend? on: April 21, 2006, 06:18:41 PM
So how is Romancing Saga?  I'm feeling the desire to pick up a new game to tide me over until my 360 gets back.

Of course Warship Gunner 2 is really tempting as well.

If I don't pick something new up I'll probably play some Starwars Battlefront 2.  Maybe some Front Mission 4.

Edit:  Oooh... maybe I'll get lucky and see a copy of Steel Battalions with the controller... that would most likely destroy my willpower right now.

Wonder if the online play will support split-screen.  Moriarty and I are both avid mech fans... would be mildly sad if we had to trade off while playing... not that it would stop us I'm sure.   Tongue
2863  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / It's coming and I can't wait! [Ghost Recon] on: April 20, 2006, 06:50:39 PM
Huh.. so it was.  Didn't see that as I scanned the page.

Well unless I come up with 200 dollars from somewhere I won't be playing this one.
2864  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / It's coming and I can't wait! [Ghost Recon] on: April 20, 2006, 04:39:30 PM
Hmm... what are the system requirements for this?  After having so much fun with the 360 version I might be interested in picking this up as well.  However my system is aging and I don't have the money to upgrade anytime soon.
2865  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Famitsu] - Game Ratings for the month on: April 20, 2006, 04:37:56 PM
A Nights game?  Ah crap, don't let Moriarty see that.  I'm not really planning on picking up the Revolution, but I could be swayed... (or forced at knife/m60 point)
2866  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360 woes... on: April 20, 2006, 04:34:49 PM
That's good to know.  So far I haven't had problems with my harddrive <crosses fingers> but I would hate to lose any purchased items.

Got my box this morning (finally, go UPS ground) so I'll be packing the 360 up and sending it off here shortly.  Hopefully it won't actually take 10 days to get it (or its replacement) back.  I'm really missing being able to play online with you guys.

At least I can watch the friends list from Starwars Battlefront II.  If anyone is particularly inclined we could play that <G>

Edit: <sigh> I have so many games to play other than the 360 ones, but of course the ones I really want to play right now are all 360 games.  This is likely to be the longest 10 days of my recent life.

2868  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360 woes... on: April 19, 2006, 05:34:40 AM
yeah, I would have gotten the extended warrantee at gamestop... except that I would be lucky to have gotten my 360 by now if I'd waited.
2869  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360 woes... on: April 19, 2006, 02:46:37 AM
Depward: the thought crossed my mind.  Then I looked at my bank balance  smile

Calvin: It's under the 90 day warrantee that they give you.  Otherwise I expect it would be costing me money to have it fixed.

I'm really really tempted to pick up the extended warrantee this time... except that so far I haven't made it past the 90 day mark.   Cool
2870  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360 woes... on: April 18, 2006, 08:40:40 PM
Well since my second 360 gave up the ghost on sunday, I called xbox support and they said they'd send a box out to me.  No problems.  I expected it would be like the first time I had problems: next day get box, send box back, get replacement in 3 days or so.

Unfortunately MS has changed their policy now.  They use standard shipping, which means I won't get the box until thursday or friday.  They said to expect about 10 days from the time I send the box back before I get the 360 back.

So.  Here I am.  No 360 for the next 2 1/2 weeks.  <sigh>  If I'd realized how long it was going to take I would have gladly paid the 15-16 bucks to send it faster.

I'm glad they're fixing it for free.  Since it shouldn't have broken inside 2 months in the first place, I'm a little bitter about the time lapse.

I'd guess that the priority shipping was costing them too much, especially now that the 'shortage' is finally over.

Ah well.  Nothing I can do about it for the moment.
2871  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What are you buying this week? (4/17) on: April 18, 2006, 05:27:31 PM
Don't know about southpark, but springfields are all over the place <g> I live in Springfield Mo. for example.
2872  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 16, 2006, 03:36:22 PM
Yeah, this is my second system.  frown  Time to call and find out if its still under warrantee.

Okay, just got off the phone with MS.  They're sending me a box.  <sigh>  I can't decide if I want to scream/cry/destroy things at the moment.  So I think I'll go with sleeping.
2873  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 16, 2006, 01:54:59 PM
You can't host your own games, but you can request a new server... so if one person did that then invited/had everyone join them, we should be able to get at least a few of us together.

Had some weird thing happen.  Was playing happily online, and then all of the sudden the screen goes dark.  No response from the 360, no sound in headsets.  Rebooted and checked the people I had been playing with, and none of them were on either.  Went back in and tried to start my own game.  Got to the game... 5 seconds later black screen.

Really not sure what's up with this.

Edit: Okay... now I'm thinking that my 360 has decided to croak on me.  I can play for a few minutes... then there's a small 'pop' sound and it gets these nice intermittent vertical lines across the screen.  I hope that MS gave me a 90 day warrantee with this 360 they sent me... cause I'm looking at needing a repair/replacement again.
2874  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Just Finished Kameo on: April 16, 2006, 02:38:22 AM
Depward:  Now you and Moriarty should play the online co-op stuff together.  I'm not that good as that type of game so she's been lacking a partner to go through them.
2875  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 15, 2006, 02:32:49 AM
Playing the capture the flag maps can be very confined and fast paced.  On the conquest maps you can go for a while without seeing anyone.  During a CTF map you rarely go 30 seconds without seeing/shooting/being shot by someone.  Sometimes all at once.

Edit:  Friday turned out to be a day off from gaming.  Hoping to get some time in this afternoon/evening.  Exactly when depends heavily on when I actually get to sleep this morning.  Gotta love the midnite to 8am shifts.
2876  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 14, 2006, 11:31:37 PM
Unfortunately you can't host a game from what I've seen.  You can do the clan games though.  No idea how that works yet.  I think we'd need at least 4-6 people on to make it happen.

In the meantime, just joining games in progress should work pretty well.  Especially if the first person does a search for low population games to ensure enough room for everyone.
2877  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 14, 2006, 08:37:26 AM
Played some online today.  Was pretty good.  Played more of the campaign and am currently at a loss.

I defend a trainstation from attack.  No problem.  Then the opposition sends a train full of explosives at the station at high speed.  I get 4 guys spread along a track with 50 cal. machineguns.  Then the train doesn't die.  Not sure what the deal is.

Edit: Hate it when I get stuck somewhere that no one does.  <mutters>

If a good number of GT'ers grab this sucker and intend on playing it - and if matchmaking is easy enough to have a group of 8 people or whatever join a game together, then I'm most likely game.  I'm looking for a somewhat faster shooter to complement GRAW.

I'll have to experiment a bit to make sure, but I'm expecting that if one of us hosts a game and then invites everyone else... that should be all the matchmaking necessary.

2880  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Battlefield 2- Who's getting it.? on: April 13, 2006, 06:34:13 AM
Not sure... I never actually played the demo.  I'm having fun with the single player campaign at the moment.  Can't say I enjoy flying an unarmed recon chopper though.  The controls are pretty nice for the choppers at least.  Vehicle controls work pretty well also.

Looking forward to getting together with people and playing online.  I'm a bit hesitant to go into random servers though.

Edit: I played the campaign and a few of the challenges for about 7 hours. (I love school holidays)  Fun, although I am not as skilled as I would like.  Finally gave up on my current mission for the night as I was getting very frustrated.

Nice thing, all that time, no crashes, no lockups, etc.  After playing Graw and Oblivion, both of which I love, and suffering many lock-ups etc. it was nice to just play without worries.

I really like the weapons so far, although I wouldn't trust me with an RPG anytime soon   Shotguns are fun... kinda hope that Graw decides to add some in at some point.

If the game had split screen and/or co-op I would be even happier with it.  As it is I'll just have to wait to play with you guys online.
