Bought it. It's ok so far, not sure if it will have staying power though. It's more of a I go/U go type game.

Grue, have you read any of the Temeraire books?  Napoleonic Wars historical fiction... but if there were dragons.

Fun series and easy reads.

Anathem by Neal Stephenson.  Just finished my second readthrough of this monster and still love it to death. If you are a fan of Stephenson's style, then you should really enjoy this. Any negative comment I ever read about it was either people who didn't like his style, or just couldn't understand the concepts.  If you enjoyed his other works, this one is a safe bet.

I'm a book reading fiend (including most of Stephenson) and Anathem even intimidates me!

Fax machine is a good idea. What about a massive, loud fan.

You could also put your own speakerphone on max. I can PM you my number if you want me to yell business related tidbits over the phone biggrin

"I SAID THE TOMPKINS ACCOUNT NEEDS SOME ADDITIONAL WORK!!"

Another idea is to see if your company would install a door closing device on the door of the conference room so the door closes on its own.
88  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: SWTOR free 7 day trial on: March 08, 2012, 04:29:28 PM
They need to drop the price on the main game with 30days free, then I'll give it a shot. 7 days isn't enough when it takes 3 just to D/L the massive thing.
89  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: John Belushi died 30 years ago Today on: March 08, 2012, 03:00:04 PM
Yeah, I thought that was interesting especially since so many of us were really too young to fully understand the demons he wrestled with and what eventually did him in.

The other interesting thing is Ebert also tweeted that he wrote that piece just after he sobered up himself. I guess he had a particular insight into destructive behavior and it came through in the article.

91  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: John Belushi died 30 years ago Today on: March 07, 2012, 07:07:02 PM
Ebert tweeted this piece he wrote after Belushi died:
Why John Belushi died

Quote
John Belushi did try to stop, many times. It is just that he never tried to stop in a way that would have worked. He tried resolutions and willpower. Every addict knows that willpower hardly ever works in the long run, since when the will turns, the game is over. He tried changing his environment, with retreats to Martha's Vineyard. Recovering addicts talk cynically of "geographical cures," as if a habit you carry within yourself can be left behind. He tried placing himself under the discipline of others, and even submitted to "trainers" who were to guard him twenty-four hours a day. That made his drugs their problem, not his. He tried switching from one drug to another, or to "only beer" or "only pot." All mood-altering substances are interchangeable to the abuser, and the drug of substitute leads inevitably back to the drug of choice. He tried health kicks, with Judy mixing her husband "health shakes" in the mornings, all filled with yogurt and bananas and wheat germ. An abusers body is incapable of efficiently absorbing nutrition. He talked to doctors who issued their dire warnings while writing him prescriptions for tranquilizers. He talked to psychiatrists who wanted to get to the root of his problem, as if today's drug abuse can be treated by understanding the traumas of childhood.

Panthers are tough, no shame in that.

May actually make the playoffs for the first time in recent memory. Picked a good year to get cheap season tickets smile
