1  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 30 days until launch. Which system are you getting? on: October 18, 2013, 06:16:28 PM
I had both preorders for day one releases, but cancelled them both in the past week.  I've been leaning PS4 despite being primarily a 360 guy this generation (reasons being PS4 rumored more powerful, and not wanting a Kinect (yes I know you can run the console without it, but then I'm paying $100 extra for something that will end up in the trash)).  Having much less time to play in the last couple years combined with no launch titles that interest me, and not even being sure which console I think I'll end up with, I'll wait until 2014 and let the dust settle...
2  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New BEYOND: Two Souls video / screens / art from Tribeca on: October 10, 2013, 02:04:21 PM
The reviews on this one scared me off from the purchase; but I'd been looking forward to it a bunch, so went the Redbox route intead.  About 3 hours in, I'm enjoying the atmosphere of it a lot.  I can understand the criticism that your choices don't so much seem to really impact the storyline (yet?), but the voyage itself has been cool.
3  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Are You Stepping Into the Next Gen? on: February 08, 2013, 08:11:13 PM
I want to want the next XBox.  Between the [likely untrue] rumors, a decent backlog of things I've purchased, and general lack of time to play much at all, "We'll see".
4  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Has anyone gotten their 5 free blu-ray movies? on: February 29, 2008, 11:38:00 PM
It took mine about 3 months.  4/5 were the ones I actually ordered -- the fifth they changed out (thankfully it was one of the ones I didn't care about, swapped to another I didn't care about)

7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: It Finally Happend- the dreaded Red Rings of Death! on: November 15, 2007, 01:49:26 PM
Mine died last month, and from the phonecall to Microsoft to getting my 360 back was two and a half weeks.  It sucks that it happened, but the turnaround time was bearable.
8  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Eagles on: November 06, 2007, 01:50:58 PM
I've been a HUGE Eagles fan since I was a kid.  I even have a Randy Meisner solo album for crying out loud.  So yeah, I sucked it up and walked into a Walmart last week to pick up the new double disc -- at $11.88 I couldn't argue that part.

I've listened to the first disc twice, and the second disc once.  I need to give it another more fair listen I think; but my reaction at this point is Don Henley and Glen Frey made their solo albums and combined them for this two disc set.  (Oh sure, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt sing a song or two as well).  It just doesn't sound like an Eagles album to me yet -- the Henley songs do not sound dissimilar from his last CD which I found pretty forgettable.  This one might grow on me -- I'll try to give it another listen today, and if I have a different reaction I'll be sure to pass it on.
9  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Amazing Race time - Who's in? on: November 05, 2007, 02:44:14 PM
We were excited for another season of Amazing Race to start up for sure...  Football confused the TiVo, but thankfully we were well aware that the Patriots game was going to result in a late start.

My early least favorite team is the Goths -- though I also disliked the team that was eliminated in the end (due to the way they treated their donkey).  The two blondes are bringing down the opinion of models that the Beauty Queens helped to build up; these two need to go.  It is still early for me to have opinions about too many of the teams though I'm rooting for the father/daughter and grandfather/grandson.

11  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Political Threads ... is there anything they're good for? on: October 30, 2007, 08:53:51 PM
If there were actual debating they'd be fine.  I stopped reading those threads here a long time ago since they frankly became predictable with how they were going to go (see: Purge's template)
12  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Can we just get an Xbox 360 hardware sticky thread? on: October 22, 2007, 07:06:34 PM
I'd say no sticky thread -- one person's XBox 360 passing away has nothing to do with anyone elses.  It'd be like making one sticky thread for all the political crap (hey, now that is a good idea).

I may be biased here since I called for a coffin on Friday...  Once this is resolved, let me know where I should go to cry about it?

If it were me, I would find a new home for that cable box, JLu.  Those things can generate quite a bit of heat and usually never get turned off.

Yeah the first thing I plan to do when I get home tonight is to rearrange things -- and then leave the XBox on for oh, 24 hours or so to see what happens.

Something I don't get, people who own machines from day one, 2 years later, no problems. Some people have mulitple machines go bad. Is it a luck thing? Set up issue? (Enclosed area? leaving it on for hours at at time?) Maybe some people are harder on hardware than others? I am not saying that is the case, I don't know, it just seems strange that some people have such horrible luck while others seem to be fine.

I wondered the same thing...  My launch day 360 gave me the three red rings for the first time last night after a 3 and a half hour session of Halo3 (and there have been two or three crashes in the past couple weeks too).  It actually started up just fine this morning, so I'm -hoping- it is because I moved the cable box on top of the 360 when the PS3 joined our household.  Time will tell - reading these horror stories I really would rather mine just works okay again versus getting into the rotation of consoles.

I've always been in the 'cancel HBO when no shows I want are on' camp anyhow -- and I cancelled after the end of Entourage and Flight of the Conchords this season.  I'll be back when one of those is back on.

I liked the first season of Deadwood a LOT -- but after the third, I'm not honestly that upset that there is no more coming.

If the cache clear doesn't work, you can alternatively remove all the downloaded patches with some wacky command combinations from the Maintenance blade (which unfortunately is the route I'd gone, since I didn't realize the cache-clearing trick existed when the bug hit me)

I was so so on this for the first two episodes, but the Rhymnocerous vs. Hiphopopotomus made me see the light.  Even though we have Tivo and HBO on Demand, we watch this one live every Sunday.  I've been enjoying it more than Entourage this summer.
That said, HBO is gone again once Entourage and FoTC are over on Sunday.  No need for HBO until one of those shows is back on the air.  Was very happy to hear FoTC had been renewed!
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Why Do We(I) Care About Achievements? (Bioshock inspired) on: August 23, 2007, 01:46:22 PM
I've liked achievements from the start -- I just like seeing the pretty window pop up.  I hit the 10,000 mark just last week which took some of the edge off though -- not that it'd been a goal per se, but once you get to that point it just does not matter as much.

I've never really let them dictate how I play a game, though I'll admit that I did turn down an encore in Guitar Hero II after seeing that I could get some points for it.

I like being able to see how far friends are in games I'm playing too, as long as it keeps me somewhat spoiler free.  Talking Bioshock in the office is a perfect example of that (oh he has 95 achievement points too, so he probably did that one part -- yep, he has that achievement too, okay I can talk about it).

Agreed.  Flight of the Conchords is the only show now that I need to watch at the actual time it is on!  I even wrote HBO today to urge them to renew it.

How long does it take for them to approve you? I was planning on getting a PS3 in the next few months and this just pushed me over the edge.

The approval was pretty much instantaneous for me.

The shipping time hurts just a little bit.  Mine did not ship until the day after I ordered it, FedEx ground, and it's estimated for the 16th.  Obviously I'm okay waiting versus spending another $40 for faster shipping, but I want my new toy now!

The 60 GB is the one that I was interested in to begin with so this potential buyer finds this news pretty interesting - I've not really done the research in what the 80 GB really gains you aside from more space; but this put me a step closer towards getting one in a month or two.

The normal Honey Bunches of Oats for me (none of those almonds, thank you very much)...  Cracklin Oat Bran a close second, but due to the cost per box, it falls.  Honey Nut Cheerios for the bronze.  And of course all of those have already been named by someone else  smile

Lately however I've been on a Lucky Charms kick for the 4 times a month I eat cereal.

I'm finally getting away from AT+T/Cingular with my work blackberry -- you could not pay me to go back to them.

Of course I may go over to Verizon and get a new personal phone -- I wish they didn't have the best coverage around here because I'm VERY tired of their customer service treating me like a piece of garbage.

I've been happy with Verizon's coverage, but I'm thinking of ditching them for some of the anti-consumer stances they've taken recently.  For example, they were trying to shut down Vonage by claiming they patented the distribution of information over the internet (yeah, right).  Also, they defending turning over their customer's phone records to the government as an expression of free speech (so in other words, they exercise their free speech by violating my privacy).

I should specify -- I have Verizon for my own phone now and have since they were Bell Atlantic Mobile back in 1996.  I'd love to swap, but I've used just about every other carrier's phone in my house (through friends and whatnot) and no others even get a signal.  Unfortunately, that results in a "Thank you sir, may I have another"...
But if I could swap, I'd do so in a heartbeat.

I've not used my 360 for DVDs, and ended up deciding against the HD DVD addon just because of all the problems others have had -- I do not want to keep it on any longer than I'm actually gaming.  But I have two standalone DVD players in the house, and have had at least one for longer than I've had a gaming console that could play DVDs.

So...I have to ask... Is the PS3 a game machine or a Blu-Ray movie device that can also play games on the side?

If I end up getting a PS3 into the house, it'll be as a DVD player that happens to play games -- anything that is multiplatform (at this point) I'd lean towards my 360, but I'd love to be able to play some of the upcoming PS3 exclusives.  If I try to get another gaming machine into the house, it'd be a Wii which my wife would use as much if not more than me...
