8481  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Iron Man BD issues? on: October 07, 2008, 08:09:10 PM

Quote from: Jeff Jones on October 07, 2008, 08:07:46 PM

I thought the movie rocked from start to finish, and had zero issues with sound (Bluray version). The movie requires a suspension of disbelief, for sure, but it achieves it nicely.

Regarding the final line, why did he openly say that to the press? (I don't know much Iron Man history)

After further review, I am wrong.

OH, and westbrook broke 2 ribs on his eighth play this week, so bullocks to the idea you faced a 'full' westbrook.  You faced a gimpy dude all afternoon.  At least the guys we faced were healthy.

In the last five years, the Bears records is 45-35 (.562).  The Slurs are 35-45 (.437).  The Bears have had three different 10+ win seasons in this decade, the Slurs 1.  The Bears have been to the Superbowl this decade.  The Slurs....haven't.

Reminds me of a Sports Night quote that I can't seem to find on-line, so here it is from memory, badly, no doubt...

1: Bob says it's the Giant's year
2: It's not.
1: Bob says they've got a strong team.
2: They don't
1: Bob says Barry Bonds can take them all the way
2: He can't and I'll tell you why.  Barry Bonds is prohibited from batting either directly before or after himself and it's a little hard to pitch from left field.
8484  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW joins the dustbin... on: October 07, 2008, 04:06:39 PM
I decided to drop my WoW subscription.  With pressure from a friend of mine, I ground my Rogue the last 10 levels to get to 70, bought a purple from a guildie for 800g ... and never played again.  This was back in May.  I paid for an entire three month subscription without logging in once.  The WotLK content appeals to me a little on the conceptual level, but not enough to warrant the purchase of the expansion and the continuation of the fees.  Go gently into the night, Elyandra.

So WoW joins the dustbin on top of EverQuest, WWII Online, and City of Heroes.
8485  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Alanis who? John Mayer, Baby! on: October 07, 2008, 02:35:23 PM
I like me some John Mayer.  I have Room for Squares, Heavier Things, and the two-disc version of Continuum.  He's even got a Pandora channel from me.

But then, I love Dave Matthews Band as well, and they seem to be mostly reviled on GT/OO as well.  Listen to what you like, but make sure to bring everyone else some Haterade next time.  icon_lol

+1 to Pete for Flyleaf and Evanescence.

I mean, I've had surgery so I could keep gaming, lol.  Yesterday I was playing Infinite Undiscoveries with both thumbs taped up, a tennis elbow brace, and an icepack Ace bandaged to my left forearm.  I think that should at least get me an Honorary Hardcore Gamer award, even though I'm starting to sorta stink at many games now!  Tongue

Never got to that one.  I read the Xanth series until well after it jumped the shark, which was decent for the first dozen or so. I loved the first three books in the Apprentice Adept series (the last 4 were decent, but not up to the quality of the first ones).  Prostho Plus was another good one-shot.  Battle Circle was also a series I enjoyed.  I believe I had it in a 3-in-1 volume.

Pete got it.  Sorry you missed it.  That's the only film that Leary and Walken have been in together.

Also, my DVD trial ended and I really don't feel like spending $65 to take screenshots.  Anyone else have a recommendation for a program?

Palin reminds me of my first girlfriend.  She had plenty of opinions on things, but could not rationally defend any of these positions.  Over time, it became apparent that all of her opinions had been placed there by her step father.  To this day, I refer to her as a chocolate Easter Bunny: sweet on the outside, nothing on the inside.

If you don't mind, I think I may start using that to describe my mother-in-law.  Although she's more a dark chocolate Easter Bunny due to being more bitter.

icon_biggrin By all means.  Given that it's been 4 years since then, I don't get to use the line much anymore.  It would make me happy to see it in use again.

One of my co-workers said that we should take out loans from our 401K's so that there's less money in them to lose.

An interesting idea...

Assuming you're not in a Roth IRA, expect to lose 30% of the value when you remove it (+/- based on your tax rate).  You'll pay full income tax + 10% early withdrawl.

No: not withdrawl, a *loan*

Hot-water mineral alteration has occurred within a quartz porphyry dike associated with late phases of intrusion of a granitoid stock into Precambrian amphibolite. The mineral composition of the unaltered dike is: 15% quartz, 45% microcline, 30% oligoclase, 10% biotite.  From the groups of alteration products listed below, select the one most likely to have developed within, and surrounding, the porphyry dike.

B) sericite, kaolinite and montmorillonite, hematite.

What is the calcium carbonate compensation depth?

A) Ocean depth below which silica no longer crystallizes.

But that's with open internet...

It was the juxtaposition of the two on each one that I found interesting.  The movie poster makes The Professional seem like a film about family values.  And the second is just plain weird.

8512  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Rock Band 2 Band on: October 03, 2008, 09:11:36 PM
Think of Battle of the Bands as a high score bulletin board.  You (and your band, if applicable) play the designated setlist and are competing on the specified criteria.  You do not play head-to-head with anyone at the time.  Your score is posted and the Friends tab will show you who has previously performed the battle, what their scores were, and where you rank once you've performed.  When you re-enter the BotB area, you will get a screen that will inform you how many places you've been bumped down on each active battle and the time remaining if you want to try it again.

Since I can't match up score-wise with some the savant-level players on OO/GT, I typically stick to streak/star battles.

I'd be interested in some MP when available.  Anything on for this evening?

Guitar: Hard, not top level
Drums: Medium
