7961  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Area51 and other government lies on: December 04, 2008, 09:20:57 PM
My father was tied to a project out of Nellis AFB in the 80's.  The first we knew of it was when they declassified its existence of the result and read off his unit's designation on the nightly news.  I know more about that project from the History Channel than he has ever told me.

I know plenty of military personnel from various services and timeframes.  I listen to the stories they tell and respect them enough not to ask questions about things they obviously can not discuss.

They don't give security clearances to people who are likely to break them.  Even were you so inclined, the threat of imprisonment is very real and the government is more than willing to request, and then demand that whoever had the information passed to them be gagged or face imprisonment as well.  Not to mention being discredited.

7964  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / December Dallas-area lunch (Cross Posted) on: December 04, 2008, 06:47:58 PM
It's December, which means it's time for me to put together a Dallas-area lunch GTG.  I have organized one for the past two months at OO and been remiss in not including the GT brethren.

Initial thoughts are Monday, 12/15.  11:30 - 1:30 has been the standard up to this point.  Our last turnout was seven forum members

Urban Spoon has suggested to me that we do Bone Daddy's to change it up from our run of Mexican food.

All details are up for debate here and the other place.

Let's see one in Korea!  Initial invasion, Pusan perimeter, landing at Inchon, Saber vs. Mig-15, the possibilities have not been explored enough.

I did.  She asked me what I normally had done.  I usually had a #2 on the sides and back, which she stayed with.  I went to the place in the OP.  $19 for the cut which comes with a hot lather neck shave and a shoulder massage with one of those hand massagers.  She got a $5 tip.

With all these threads about spawning children, what are the costs associated with being a parent?  From this article, it appears that the formula option alone could (should) run ~$250 a month.

So to all of you parents, run the numbers for me, if you would, and how much does your bundle of joy suck out of your accounts every month for necessities.  Keep the Weeboks and Baby Gap out of the equation. slywink

On a related note to kid 3, Shinjin, I had tongue extension issues as a kid.  This led to a speech impediment with the 's' sound coming out of the sides of my mouth.  This took years of speech therapy to correct even after the surgery to clip back my frenulum under my tongue (don't search for this at work, as males have multiple...).

7981  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Help me find a hairstyle (and a stylist) on: December 03, 2008, 09:15:01 PM
I'm going to try and fake confidence and put myself into the meat market that is the Dallas dating scene.  I need a new hairstyle to go with it.  And I need to convince myself that the Pro-Cuts version isn't going to work.

My initial idea is to go here.  I need some input from some of the more experienced forum members as to the lay of the land, if I need to keep looking, and what type of style my tree-trunk-like hair would be best.  Too short in the back results in it sticking straight up.  Think fuzzy Alfalfa.

Below is the most recent picture I've got.

Arkon's head may explode but probably not for the intended reason. There is a median age with an even number of kids, it's the mean of the age of the middle two kids. I'm having a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around repeating fraction, I think you mean repeating decimal.  icon_twisted

If you're going to go with milk, at least go with milk worth of The Fabulous One.   Fabulous

Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon

Quote
Chateau du Lait Blanc, watch out!

One should not be intimidated by Tuscan Whole Milk. Nor should one prejudge, despite the fact that Tuscan is non-vintage and comes in such large containers. Do not be fooled: this is not a jug milk. I always find it important to taste milk using high-quality stemware -- this is milk deserving of something better than a Flintstones plastic tumbler. One should pour just a small dollop and swirl it in the glass -- note the coating and look for clots or discoloration. And the color -- it should be opaque, and very, very white. Now, immerse your nose in the glass and take a whiff. Tuscan transports you instantly to scenic hill towns in central Italy (is that Montepulciano I detect?) --- there is the loamy clay, the green grass of summer days, the towering cypress. And those gentle hints of Italian flowers -- wild orchids, sunflowers, poppies. Then, one takes in the thick liquid and lets it roll across and under the tongue -- what is that? perhaps a hint of a nutty Edam cheese? With Tuscan, you feel the love of every dairyperson involved -- from the somewhat sad and deranged farmhand shovelling steaming cowpies to the bored union milk maiden dreaming of leaving this soul crushing life behind for a job waiting tables for obnoxious American tourists in Siena. But not too fast -- sip gently, slowly, or one is in danger of not only missing the subtleties of the milk's texture and its terroir, but -- if chilled too long -- also of giving oneself a blinding ice cream headache. Nay, savor the goodness that only dairymen and dairywomen working at the apex of their craft can deliver. Tuscan is best drunk young -- no, no, don't cellar this gem -- I guarantee you'll be sorry if you do. I recommend pairing with freshly baked macadamia nut scones. Milk Expectorator gives this one a 92.

Going back to the store might also land you in the middle of a gang war. What if's are irrelevant.
'What if's are not irrelevant.  It's called Proximate cause or foreseeability.

Well then, why not say "If I return the game, maybe they'll give me a reward and I'll be a hero for the community and possibly get an endorsement deal' to justify going rather than finding an excuse not to return?

When I start a softball team, you get to play left field.  You already live out there.

There's nothing in your statement that remotely ties into (reasonable) foreseeability.  Tie that in with the eggshell skull rule, and returning the game could result in your being legally responsible for the agent getting fired, even if they were on a final warning for something else.

The case of Smith v. Leach Brain & Co., [1962] 2 QB 405, illustrated this rule. An employee in a factory was splashed with molten metal. The metal burned him on his lip, which happened to be premalignant tissue. He developed cancer and died. The defence argued that while the burn was foreseeable, the cancer was not. However, the judges dismissed this, holding that as long as the initial injury was foreseeable, the defendant was liable for all the harm.

But with an even number of kids, there is no median age.  With an odd number, there can sometimes be a repeating fraction for the mean age.

If Pete ever got into editing Wikipedia, he'd never come out the other side.  They would have to rename it Wiki-Pete-ia.  They'd find him slumped over his keyboard, empty bottle of bourbon at his elbow, three pages into an explanation over the finer points of the proper drinking glass as it effects the taste and experience of your finer beverages.
