7761  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What are the "must-watch/must-have" television series on DVD? on: January 22, 2009, 05:04:32 PM
Personally, I would have bought the Stargate: SG-1 series on the deal of the day if the packaging wasn't such a deal-breaker.  That, and I am still in need of picking up the complete run of Farscape.  Both quality series with quality acting, good effects, (and Ben Browder The Weghted Companion Cube will never threaten to stab you. )

Tonight's meal preparation will be chicken breasts dredged in flour seasoned with a peppery season mix (I can't recall the specifics at the moment), egg wash, then coated in a mixture of parmesan cheese and Italian bread crumbs.  Bake at 375 for about 40 minutes or until the thermo-meter tells me it's safe to eat.

Since I have a package of three of them, they will be made in bulk and feed me for a few days at least.

The seasoning is Morton Nature's Seasons, which is Salt, pepper, suagre (?) onion and garlic flavoring, celery seeds and calcium silicate.  1/2 cup of flour seasoned to desire.  1/4 cup each of parmesan and bread crumbs.  This will be sufficient to take care of 2 large chicken breasts.  The coating forms a cohesive shell which is quite tasty and will slide off in one piece when you cut the chicken,

After further review playing CoD earlier this week, it turns out that I don't invert on that game.  Maybe it's been that long since I've played a shooter that I "reset" during the interim.

I hedged my bets and bought both.  My initial purchase was going to be a PS3 before they pulled the backward compatible units at the end of '07.  As such, I was talked into getting the 360 first.  The main draw for me on the 360 is the social aspect of it.  If there's a game that has MP on it, I'm going to get it for the 360 if available.  I will be using my Gamefly and used purchases to explore some of the PS2 content that I missed out on, look for any PS3 exclusives that grab my attention, and watch my DVD and Blu-Ray rentals.  I may go a week or two before I turn on the PS3, but I certainly don't regret my purchase.

No problem.   I had seen your post, then a cephalopod had posted the new whitehouse.gov site, which linked me to a blog which stated that they were going to be published, and had a link that got me to that section of the site.

There's going to be the weekly video addresses, the blog, slideshows, proclamations, and the nominations and appointments.

My question with time travel becomes one of frame of reference.  The Earth does not sit in the same point in space as it did 3/6/12 months ago.  Does time travel keep you in the gravity well as you travel, or do you get spit out into interplanetary space?

The Advertising Standards Authority would disagree.

Quote
5.1 Marketing communications should contain nothing that is likely to cause serious or widespread offence. Particular care should be taken to avoid causing offence on the grounds of race, religion, sex, sexual orientation or disability. Compliance with the Code will be judged on the context, medium, audience, product and prevailing standards of decency.

Given the environment, I would imagine that the same rule applied to a U.S. audience would have that sign fall under the religion context of widespread offence.  From what I have been reading about the English populace, this just isn't the case here.
7782  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Atheists launch "There is no God" adverts on buses across Britain on: January 19, 2009, 05:56:51 PM
Being racist or misogynist is not protected speech.  Your religious beliefs are, at least by the government.  Remember, your "rights" are against the government, not your employer.  As one who was fired for exercising his "freedom of speech," I have a bit of experience in this area.  Another of my former employers would certainly discipline/fire you over exercising your freedom of speech to tell the customers that they hired you to serve that the competitor's product was better.  A lot of my minions had cell providers other than the one they worked for.  Aside from some good-natured ribbing, I never saw or heard any institutionalized repurcussions about it.

And honestly, who thinks that a bus driver endorses any and all products advertised on his/her bus?

Neither of them grab my attention and make me want them to win.  And if I can't back a horse in the race, I rapidly find something else to watch.

I did see Nadal take down Federer at Wimbledon, and was rooting for him, but mainly as an objection to Federer.  I just don't care for either of them.

I fail to see how you could accuse Brendan of being biased toward the Israelis, especially given the post at the top of this page.  Stating that they are committing war crimes is support?

Quote from: Brendan on January 06, 2009, 06:02:26 PM

Oh, please.  What the Israeli military is engaging in right now, as they kill even more civilians is collective punishment - forbidden by the Geneva Conventions as a war crime.  It doesn't matter whether Hamas leaders hide amongst civilians - it's still indefensible morally.  There is no question that Hamas engages in terrorist actions against civilian targets, and that it's indisputably wrong.  Again, as I mentioned earlier, it's also indisputably wrong that Israel is killing or wounding thousands of innocent Palestinians.
...
What you're going to see are more attacks on civilian targets in Israel, not fewer.  The Palestinians were displaced into an apartheid state, where they're crammed into horrible living conditions, their territory is constantly encroached upon by unrepetant settlers, and the Israeli military routinely blocks medical supplies and food  from entering the country.  They've created a powder keg of resentment, and we're expected to be suprised when it explodes?
...
Hamas' attacks on civilians are outrages, but so are Israel's.  Israel doesn't get a pass on morality because of the Holocaust or because of their war for independence against the arab nations.  Both sides need to have their behavior examined critically.

So yeah, your attack on his post seems trollish to me.

Only last September did the United States grant Israel's request to supply it with 1,000 bombs of a new type, the GBU-39. They arrived at the beginning of December, and inhabitants of Rafah have witnessed their use - without knowing what they were - since the first day of the aerial attacks on the tunnels there.
...
Gazans have noticed that there are bombs that produce mushroom clouds in various shades of red.  This sounds like they may be talking about the same weapon.  Here, Garlasco admits, "I can only speculate. It looks like Israel is maybe using a new weapon that it was not using before...

This sounds like they may be talking about the same type of weapon.  It sounds similar to what I have heard about the old BLU-107 Durendal, which was used to crater runways from underneath to maximize damage.  The reports I saw on it mentioned that it formed a white mushroom cloud when it detonated, more a function of the gasses escaping from a small hole than anything directly tied to the type of explosive.

cheeba, if you're waiting on people here to give you updates about all the developments in this war, then you are so looking in the wrong place.  Or did I miss your intent on your comment and it wasn't a blatant troll attack?

Based on Gamespy rankings, there were 4 "shooters" that came out in November:  CoD, L4D, Quantum of Solace, and GoW2.  Each one has its own fanbase to appeal to, but at the base concept, they fill the same genre.

If the genre as is 'shoot guns at _____' then yes.  I can't speak to QOS, but COD is nothing like L4D which is nothing like GOW2 which is nothing like COD.

That would be the definition of shooter, yes.  Which would certainly not fall under my definition of "nothing like," especially since I can have my WWII shooter and have my brains eaten, too.

And I never said that it wasn't selling well, just that I didn't think "crazy" was an apt modifier for third place in its genre.
