That's my understanding of Family Guy as a whole.  Let's do a joke that's funny for five seconds ... and draw it out for thirty seconds or more.

Franziskaner FTMFW!

Quote
The name of Franziskaner can be traced back to the oldest privately-owned brewery in Munich. It was founded in 1363 in the heart of town by a brewer named Seidel Vaterstetter. Being located next to a Franciscan monastery, it took on the name by which it is known today: Franziskaner.

Quote
All of Franziskaner's weiss beer products - Hefe-Weisse Hell and Hefe-Weisse Dunkel - are top-fermentation beers noted for their agreeable carbonation levels and zesty wheat flavour. The consistently high quality of our products makes Franziskaner weiss beers a refreshing taste sensation of a special sort. All Franziskaner weiss beers are brewed in strict adherence to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516.

The three slain officers were Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo III. Kelly had been on the force for 14 years, Mayhle and Sciullo for two years each. Another officer, Timothy McManaway, was shot in the hand and a fifth broke his leg on a fence.

"A Part of America Died"

Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect that shot him will stand in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.

It's not like this kind of gaffe is new.

It wasn't a bow, exactly. But Mr. Clinton came close. He inclined his head and shoulders forward, he pressed his hands together. It lasted no longer than a snapshot, but the image on the South Lawn was indelible: an obsequent President, and the Emperor of Japan.
...
There was that curtsy, during the Reagan years, when Lenore Annenberg, herself the chief of protocol, forgot herself entirely and did a little dip to greet a visiting Prince Charles. That prompted a stern warning from Miss Manners against those who might mock the effort that "was once put into freeing Americans from the necessity of bending their knees." Soon afterward, when Nancy Reagan greeted Queen Elizabeth II behind closed doors, her press secretary acknowledged that Mrs. Reagan had bowed her head but insisted, "It was definitely not a curtsy."
...
White House officials described Mr. Clinton's tilt as something of an improvisation. Because Emperor Akihito broke with tradition in turn to raise his glass at the state dinner, some even said Mr. Clinton had managed something of a breakthrough.

"Presidents don't bow, and Emperors don't toast," one official said. "So this was a little bit like the cultures meeting each other halfway."

PITTSBURGH - A man opened fire on officers during a domestic disturbance call Saturday morning, killing three of them, a police official said. Friends said he recently had been upset about losing his job and that he feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

Neighbors described how a quiet street in the city’s Stanton Heights neighborhood turned into a battlefield with hundreds of rounds cracking through the morning air and fallen police officers lying bleeding in the street, their colleagues unable to reach them.
...
Friends identified the suspect as Richard Poplawski, 23, but police would not immediately confirm his name. The gunman was arrested after a four-hour standoff, police said.
...
Edward Perkovic said Poplawski, his best friend, feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon.” Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said Poplawski feared that President Barack Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he “wasn’t violently against Obama.”

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 133 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2008, a 27 percent decrease from year before and the lowest annual total since 1960.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, there had been 30 deaths in the line of duty for U.S. officers so far this year, with this incident raising the total to 33.  The trends so far this year had been below last year's totals until the Oakland incident.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the police and all first responders for their service to us to keep the public safe.  No officer should be asked to surrender their lives in the line of duty.  Despite the stories about the bad apples that get way too much press, I know that the majority of you are in the job for the right reasons.  Be safe out there.

After the Braveheart line, I got the tone and decided to just roll with it.  Hence the Tongue in my overly-researched post.

Heck, the name was changed to Windsor because the Germans were bombing London with the Gotha bomber during WWI.  This helped maintain British loyalty and avoid the fate of George's cousins, Wilhelm II and Nicholas II.

From an atrocity standpoint, the Brits certainly don't have a monopoly on it.  It's just the one that we know the most about.

Didn't you watch Braveheart? smile

Edward I was a Plantagenet, which lost any association with the throne at the end of the War of the Roses (anyone up for a rousing game of Kingmaker?).  QEII is from the House of Windsor, issuing from the founding of the house by George V, formerly of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, cadet branch of the House of Wettin.

But given the atrocities committed by her family, and the history of our countries and that our nation should be anti-royalty, I would prefer my leaders and/or their wives to treat this so-called royalty just like any other citizen.

What atrocities would you attribute to her family in particular?

When a high-quality, full-length work print of X-Men Origins: Wolverine surfaced on Internet bittorrent sites last night, early speculation was that this was a doomsday scenario for Fox and the filmmakers behind the tentpole, which is not due to be released until May 1. The response today from competing producers and studio execs, however, has been more measured.
