Leaving the audience wanting more is a good thing. Most frequently I turn off a show when it's outstayed its welcome. And if you look at this past season of some shows, like the office (28 episodes long?) or some older shows like Star Trek (26 episodes long) - you get some pretty bad story ideas in there because they have to fill out the season. I'm pretty sure we'd never see things like an entire episode dedicated to Picard playing his flute;

Wil Wheaton is currently writing a book, Memories of the Future, about the first season's episodes of TNG.  He writes about, er, his writing on his blog.  Here in a post about some of his recent efforts regarding "Encounter at Farpoint."

It's not a private business, it's a franchise.

Orlando BizJournal

Seven Central Florida Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealerships are among 789 nationwide that Chrysler wants to drop as part of a bankruptcy restructuring plan.

The dealerships are: DeLand Dodge, DeLand; Courtesy Chrysler Jeep, Casselberry; Courtesy Chrysler Jeep, Sanford; Bob Dance Dodge, Sanford; Jimmie Vickers Jeep, Merritt Island; Osman Lincoln-Mercury-Jeep, Melbourne; and Sunshine Dodge, Melbourne.

Chrysler, which is restructuring under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, has asked a judge for permission to eliminate a quarter of its 3,200 dealerships across the country. The car manufacturer, which filed for bankruptcy protection April 30, said it needs to cut ties with the dealerships to save money.

And it doesn't look like the dealership is to be "taken away ... without compensation and given to another dealer at no cost to them."  And the dealers are already taking action against Chrysler.

I'm waiting for the site I usually get my tv info from to put together a nice graphical representation o f the schedule and then I'll post what I'm watching.  Much easier to look at than multiple lists.

You'll share, yes?

I will have an in-depth review later.  Every year, I do up a spreadsheet to lay out what I want to watch and have to make some decisions due to DVR 2-program limitations.  I may have to start a retrospective and show you what I was interested in at the start, what got cancelled out from under me, and what I dropped quickly.

I think one year, my TV spreadsheet had me listed at 40 hours a week.  That did not last long at all.

Thanks.  I felt kinda bad on being such a creampuff in our first few games... smile

Looking back through it, move 21 was a big blunder on my part.  I took a pawn with my bishop that immediately pinned that bishop to the queen, which lead to its loss without answer on your 22nd move.  That put you ahead on pieces and it was a long downhill slide after that.

Up looks fantastic and I will be at the theater to see it in short order after release.  My sister is all agog about it as well.

I went the chronological route, since the Tawny Man stuff is set and written after Liveship.  I seriously thought about skipping Liveship completely, but finally decided that Farseer was good enough that she got some goodwill before I went digging for the prize at the bottom of the box in going straight back to Fitz.

Assassin's Apprentice

A much different book than the title suggests.  It was free for the Kindle app for my iPhone.  It was an excellent read and kept me reading past my bedtime on several nights.  It's certainly not as bloodthirsty as the title suggests.  It certainly was a good enough read to sell me the second book through the same method for $6.39, 20% off the paperback price.

I have finished up the trilogy, all via iPhone Kindle app reading.  The others are Royal Assassin and Assassin's Quest.  An excellent series that I would highly recommend to fantasy readers.  I have moved on to her next trilogy with Ship of Magic, which is based in the same world, same time, but different geographic area and characters.  It's started slowly, but I'm starting to get into it a bit.  Although I may decide to stop by the library for the next two books rather than drop ~$13 on the next two in the series.

7473  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Miss California's Answer to Controversial Issue Sparks Controversy on: May 05, 2009, 06:58:21 PM
Thoughts do not equate to a bad person.  Actions do.

I am sure every one of us has had thoughts to ourselves that we would not voice, share, or act on because we realize them to be not in keeping with who we want to be.  I will admit that I occasionally fall prey to racist and elitist thinking.

I don't consider myself a bad person because I ensure that I do not allow those thoughts to impact my actions.  I take each person as they come.  I may not care for their company because of their actions, which may or may not fall into certain stereotypes, but I make the judgement on them based on how they interact with me and those around me.  I may feel bad when I'm surprised that they don't fit the stereotypes that they hold, but I will not feel bad for it because I didn't dismiss them out of hand because they belong to said stereotype group.

And even based on that, the stereotypes stamped into my head apply to not only race and gender, but other behavioral and background situations.

That's the exact modus operandi of all technology.  The endless upgrade/patch cycle rolls on.  New processor, new mobo, bigger HD, better graphics card, firmware updates, patches, Gold editions, and so forth.

The mindset that I've developed is to determine what feature set you are comfortable with, make the decision to purchase it, and then stop reading all the crap about the next model.  I have to re-learn the stuff about computer components every time I get a new system because I don't pay attention after I've bought it.  If the price drops 45 days after I bought the component, I don't want to know.  If the new model has heated cupholders, that wasn't on my requirement list.  It might be nice to have, but I'm not going to bemoan the fact that I bought the model that didn't have it.
