So the new mini is identical to the ipad air except for size?  Hmm.  Tough choice.

The people I know who hire others put a lot of stock in personal recommendations.  I'd definitely focus on networking.  Volunteering may even help here.  Good luck.

BTW, PS4 supports head tracking with the PSeye as well.  PS4 Warthunder is going to be using it.

I read that as Wart Hunter.  I was wondering who would buy that game.  slywink

87  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: PS Vita Impressions! Price drop! Casual Edition! Vita TV! on: September 28, 2013, 04:56:21 AM
Well, my wife got me a Vita for our anniversary.  It certainly wowed me more than the PSP or the 3DS did.  Also, for the first time, my instant game collection feels like an instant game collection.  It's nice to game choices when just starting out with the system.  I apologize to anyone on my friends list getting spammed with announcements that I installed or started a new game.
88  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Joss Whedon's new tv show on: September 26, 2013, 02:20:26 AM
Was Tahiti some obscure comics reference that was supposed to clue us in on what happened to Coulson?  I know the Life Model Decoy theory has been bandied about.  Both Hill and Book were suitably vague.

Overall I enjoyed the show.  They really made it feel like they were building a team to parallel the Avengers, lots of talent, don't play well with others and having to form a cohesive unit.  It also felt like a Whedon show.  Good start.
89  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Steam Deals Thread: Pinball FX 2 + Gunpoint - Age of Empires 3 on: September 19, 2013, 05:41:25 AM
How odd.  I found Blade very average.  You can try out any table to see if you like it.  Here are my favorite Marvel tables

Wolverine
Fantastic Four
Captain America
Spiderman
World War Hulk
Avengers
Xmen

Pretty much in that order.  Pretty sad that the Plants vs. Zombies table hasn't made it to Steam yet.  I like that table.  Paranormal and Mars are worth checking out.

91  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Homeworld: Shipbreakers on: September 03, 2013, 10:05:04 PM
The original Homeworld manual described the planet Kharak as a mostly desert world fought over by the various clans of the Kushan.  After centuries of warfare, the Kushan are united by the discovery of a giant starship with advanced technology, the hyperspace core and a map to Hiigara, home.

I'd imagine this game would cover the last years of the clan warfare.  It might even include the discovery of the giant ship and the efforts at unification.  After all, even if history says they united, that doesn't mean that everyone agreed.  If a strong clan suddenly had access to more advanced technology and a new, powerful sense of purpose, they might well unite the warring factions, one way or another.

93  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: How are you feeling about your pre-orders now? on: September 02, 2013, 05:19:57 AM
That is nice.  I'm not sure I agree though.  For this generation I found the Xbox least family friendly.  Most of my titles are M rated.  I do have few Kinect titles the kids play, but they usually want to play the Playstation or the Wii.

For family games this gen in my house:

1. Wii
2. Playstation 3
3. Xbox 360

I don't expect much to change next generation.  I could be wrong.  There's a good chance I'll pick an Xbone before the WiiU.  I'm starting with the PS4.  I'm sure I'll end up with all three.

3D Mark scores aren't spectacular, but pretty good:

Ice Storm 158368
Cloud Gate 22543
Fire Strike  7100

that's a GTX 770 and i7 4770k.
95  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Buying a new gaming rig on: August 29, 2013, 01:50:58 AM
Thank you.  One day I'll get a Falcon NW rig, but not now.  Maybe after the baby's through with college.  Anyway, I did end up getting a Cyberpower rig similar to the last one I posted.  Perhaps I should have paid for the expedited build since I ended up waiting 8 business days for them to get to me in the queue.  It's pretty sweet though.  It's lighter, faster and quieter.

Right now I hate Windows 8, but that's only because it's different than what I'm used to.  I think it could grow on me.  The mere seconds to boot is nice though.   It will probably be even better after 8.1.

Are there any good USB 3.0 hubs out there?  Reviews seem to indicate a lot of disconnect problems with removable hard drives.

98  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [xbox 360]Games with Gold on: August 16, 2013, 09:37:32 PM
I appreciate the thought, but mature games just don't show up there with the family controls on.  I thought they'd show up behind my password wall, but they're completely blocked.

So thank you CK for the direct links.  I suppose I prefer too effective parental controls than ineffective ones.  There is a work around, so I'm ok.
99  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [xbox 360]Games with Gold on: August 09, 2013, 04:36:23 AM
Honestly, it's probably all the family setting hoops I had to jump through to make sure my kids wouldn't see anything they shouldn't when trying to play Fruit Ninja, Kinect Party or Once Upon a Monster.  Still, how hard is it to make sure Games with Gold is one of the featured blocks?

When time is the major limiting factor in my gaming, wasting my time with stuff that's not fun is the biggest gaming sin.  I did look by name (and in games) but it didn't show up.  When I next turn it on, I fully expect a huge banner for Games with Gold.

I remembered this right before dinner.  I thought I'd grab it quick, let it download over dinner and play after dinner.  I look all over the xbox UI.  I try to bing crackdown.  I look it up on games on demand.  There's no sign of the game or games with gold.  Thanks a lot Microsoft.  I have to log into the xbox.com website on my computer, search for games with gold and 'purchase' it.  I can't wait to see their one box to rule them all.  Are they trying to limit the number of people who get their free game, or are they just incompetent?

I thought this promotion was supposed to generate good will.

True, you'll never win going straight retail, but once it's built and shipped, it's a sunk cost.  If you can find a good sale or clearance, you can get a better deal.

I went by Fry's today to see if anything could inspire an impulse purchase.  Almost all their display models were low end.  There were three units that, based on specs, should have made for a decent rig.  Not one of the three would boot to the desktop.  Way to inspire confidence guys.  My son liked the paint job on the ibuypower rig.  My wife thought it was too gaudy.  I mainly cared that it wouldn't boot.  First time I'd ever seen one and it didn't work.

They did have this ASUS in stock, but it wasn't on display.  Nothing about it (including the price) screamed buy me.  I went home empty handed.  I guess it's time to start research again.

109  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: So we're having twins on: July 22, 2013, 04:13:15 PM
We've all been there.  Doubling it is kind of crazy.  We had two families in our church.  One had quads, the other had quints about a year later.  Our church provided an exceptional amount of support including meals, diapers, baby sitting, shopping, money and some occasional overnight help.  They were still zombies for over a year.  It was cute seeing them show up on Sundays in their matching outfits, but we were all glad it was them and not us.  If it makes you feel any better, I'm up nights as well now.  I'm sure I'm getting a little more sleep than you though.

Our first was a preemie.  When he finally came home, he had an alarm monitor.  It gave out a piercing shriek every time his heart rate or breathing dropped below a set threshold.  There's nothing like the sheer terror of awaking thinking your baby is dying.  95% of the time he had just pulled off one of the leads.  The other five percent he was just breathing too shallow.  Those alarms nearly gave me a heart attack.  He's a big strong, healthy eight year old now.  I haven't had alarm nightmares for years.  Good luck.

Logically, I know that about AMD GPU's, but then I look at Scraper's post just near this one.  I think of all the times I've had problems with ATI drivers.  Then I end up getting another Nvidia card.  I normally like to keep my rig just below premium price tier.  Though I don't even have a name for the price tier the titan lives on.    If I can't get a pretty rock solid rig (case, mobo, cpu, cooling, gpu, SSD, HDD, memory) for $2000, I'll just stick with consoles for a while.  What's the thinking on sound cards these days?
120  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Buying a new gaming rig on: July 04, 2013, 02:42:57 AM
The end of our long remodeling nightmare is almost here.  Since it appears they won't be grossly over budget, I can finally turn my attention to a new computer.  I've been looking around delll, alienware, falconnw, origin, ibuypower and cyberpower websites.  It appears most of my motherboard, chipset, component knowledge is outdated.   So here I am asking for recommendations.  Right now I'm leaning toward intel chip and nvidia video card.  I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise.  I want to keep it under $2000, ideally closer to $1500.  I like to keep my rigs a long time.  However, I've never done more than one chip upgrade per motherboard.  I'm much more comfortable upgrading memory and video cards.  With that in mind, what should I be looking for?  Oh, I'd also like to boot from a SSD and have a large mechanical drive for storage.  Thanks in advance for the help.
