True, you'll never win going straight retail, but once it's built and shipped, it's a sunk cost.  If you can find a good sale or clearance, you can get a better deal.

I went by Fry's today to see if anything could inspire an impulse purchase.  Almost all their display models were low end.  There were three units that, based on specs, should have made for a decent rig.  Not one of the three would boot to the desktop.  Way to inspire confidence guys.  My son liked the paint job on the ibuypower rig.  My wife thought it was too gaudy.  I mainly cared that it wouldn't boot.  First time I'd ever seen one and it didn't work.

They did have this ASUS in stock, but it wasn't on display.  Nothing about it (including the price) screamed buy me.  I went home empty handed.  I guess it's time to start research again.

We've all been there.  Doubling it is kind of crazy.  We had two families in our church.  One had quads, the other had quints about a year later.  Our church provided an exceptional amount of support including meals, diapers, baby sitting, shopping, money and some occasional overnight help.  They were still zombies for over a year.  It was cute seeing them show up on Sundays in their matching outfits, but we were all glad it was them and not us.  If it makes you feel any better, I'm up nights as well now.  I'm sure I'm getting a little more sleep than you though.

Our first was a preemie.  When he finally came home, he had an alarm monitor.  It gave out a piercing shriek every time his heart rate or breathing dropped below a set threshold.  There's nothing like the sheer terror of awaking thinking your baby is dying.  95% of the time he had just pulled off one of the leads.  The other five percent he was just breathing too shallow.  Those alarms nearly gave me a heart attack.  He's a big strong, healthy eight year old now.  I haven't had alarm nightmares for years.  Good luck.

Logically, I know that about AMD GPU's, but then I look at Scraper's post just near this one.  I think of all the times I've had problems with ATI drivers.  Then I end up getting another Nvidia card.  I normally like to keep my rig just below premium price tier.  Though I don't even have a name for the price tier the titan lives on.    If I can't get a pretty rock solid rig (case, mobo, cpu, cooling, gpu, SSD, HDD, memory) for $2000, I'll just stick with consoles for a while.  What's the thinking on sound cards these days?

The end of our long remodeling nightmare is almost here.  Since it appears they won't be grossly over budget, I can finally turn my attention to a new computer.  I've been looking around delll, alienware, falconnw, origin, ibuypower and cyberpower websites.  It appears most of my motherboard, chipset, component knowledge is outdated.   So here I am asking for recommendations.  Right now I'm leaning toward intel chip and nvidia video card.  I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise.  I want to keep it under $2000, ideally closer to $1500.  I like to keep my rigs a long time.  However, I've never done more than one chip upgrade per motherboard.  I'm much more comfortable upgrading memory and video cards.  With that in mind, what should I be looking for?  Oh, I'd also like to boot from a SSD and have a large mechanical drive for storage.  Thanks in advance for the help.

Eh, fuck it! I just purchased an additional ship myself, the MISC Freelancer. I already have the Origin 300i. This means I have one ship for scouting and dogfighting and another for trading, and both of them are safe and secure with lifetime insurance. I also wanted a somewhat larger ship to explore with the Oculus Rift. smile This kind of game (and racing games) is perhaps the genre that is best suited to the enhancements from the Oculus Rift as you're simulating sitting in a seat while sitting in a seat. Can't wait to try it.

I am somewhat ashamed to admit that I have not gotten a 300 series yet, but I am trying to leave at least a few ships to earn in game.   icon_razz

I do have a constellation, so will be looking for a few crew members every now and again.

Obviously I haven't done enough research on this game.  How much have you guys spent thus far?  And what does a hangar alpha entail?  Just glancing at the pledge pages, those ships seem expensive.

Obviously you've forgotten about Once Upon a Time in the West.  A fly gets more screen time than the bulk of the actors in the film.  Almost no one from the lengthy opening scene is seen again in the film.  Today the first fifteen minutes of the film would be reduced to less than 30 seconds of quick cuts.  I can't say it's the slowest movie ever since I've yet to make it through Cleopatra or the soviet version of War and Peace.

If you watched anything of the PS4's reveal, they showed off developer friendly PC-like architecture, all sorts of developer friendly programs and features, etc. The whole thing reeked of corporate style humility, which is not the same as real humility, but it's enough to show that they understand what went wrong.

They even talked openly about the mistakes they made with the PS3. It was the kind of humility that really restores one's faith in their ability to deliver. If they mess this up, they're done. Luckily it seems like they won't mess it up.

Well, they haven't announced pricing yet.  Let's avoid aspirational.

What I've noticed is that the more popular the phone is the more (and more timely) updates it will get.  I'm pretty sure the Galaxy S4 will prove more popular than the One.  I'm actually looking at the same phones.  Right now, I'm giving a slight edge to the S4.  It's mostly because I liking being able to expand storage with a memory card.  I also like the user replaceable battery.  It's hard to complain about a bigger screen in the same size form factor.  Do I need a thermostat, humidistat, and barometer in my phone?  Probably not.  I don't mind the plastic build since it will most likely be in a case.  I've resigned myself to the fact that no phone, no matter how cool, will make me look cool.

If you prefer the sturdier build and cooler look, I'm not going to argue with you.  They're both top end phones.

don't worry, Timegate is still around biggrin

Honestly, I'd trust Timegate with Homeworld more than their recent shooters.  The Kohan series was brilliant.
That was a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago.

It's more recent than Homeworld 2, and there really hasn't been a space RTS since HW2.  I guess you could count Sins of a Solar Empire even though that's more of a 4X game.  Ironclad is busy working on Sins of a Dark Age.  I don't think there's a natural home for Homeworld any more.  Is most of the Homeworld team still at Relic?  I know some of the Cataclysm team went on to form Ironclad and Kerberos (Sword of the Stars).

Anyway my point was mostly that Timegate's shooters have been mediocre at best while they were brilliant when they made RTS's.   Whereas I'd be excited for a new Timegate RTS, I wouldn't even pay attention to another shooter by them.  I think Kato liked Section 8 though.

DD:DA also comes with all DLC that was released for Dragon's Dogma.
