Dead Nation port coming to PS4 with plus next month.  What's really interesting though are the features to make streaming interactive where viewers can modify your game to some degree.

I'm excited for this! I'm loving that it's free as well for PS+ users!

Also, infamous is going to be great. Can't wait to play it!

As for Titanfall, if I get it, it will be on the PC.

I must be a nerd, I collect them and try to get badges. Don't spend money on them, other than the money I make by selling duplicates.

I was getting booster packs almost weekly for awhile, but it' been months since I last got one.

I'm level 18 and had not received a booster pack in months, until two days ago when I got one. I would really love to know what the base drop rate is on them. I know that they are randomly given out whenever someone crafts a badge, or so their FAQ says. It also says that for every ten levels you get a 20% bump in your chance for getting one.

Ugh. I'm pretty sure my f*&king console is defective. Half the time I don't get any sound after I boot up and it requires a reboot, and there have been multiple instances of the thing not connecting to the network. I also get these weird sound/video glitches during games. Anyone experience any of this?

One time I got no sound but a simple switch to tv and back to hdmi 2 fixed it. Just a receiver handshake quirk. No graphics or audio issues here like that. When did you get it?

It's a launch console. I've been hoping that the issues would be resolved in a firmware update but it hasn't happened yet and it's starting to become a major annoyance. I guess I'll contact Amazon first and then Sony, I hope I don't have to go weeks/months without it while they attempt to fix it.

I've had an audio issue as well (no sound at some random point during a game) and it can be annoying. Luckily, it doesn't happen often at all (mostly during NBA 2k14) and it can be fixed by going out to the system menu and just switching the audio to HDMI, then switching back to the digital out. The sound comes right back. Seems like a firmware issue.
46  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1] Peggle 2 on: December 10, 2013, 03:23:07 AM
I'm enjoying it. It's more of the same, but that is fine with me. I don't feel that it is light on content at all. Yes, there are fewer masters...but there are more levels than the first. Seems like a pretty good deal for $12, IMO.

As for the problems with it, well the graphics are not mind blowing and it could have been just as easily been on the 360...though there a couple nice effects, like the snow guys power. Also, this game really abuses the Game clip recording and posting on the Activity Feed. It seems like every other minute it is recording a clip and posting it. Come on, EA.

That sucks. I reported my defective (non Day One) controller on Wednesday with Amazon and they had a new one on my doorstep this afternoon.

Reading this page of the thread is there anyone here who hasn't had a hardware issue with the Xbone yet? Whether it's the controller or the disc drive?

Jeebus Microsoft lose that sharpening filter!

also, WiiU version inferior to PS360, that's kind of sad.

Yeah, I was honestly horrified when I booted up Assassins Creed on the XB1. I wanted to see how it looked on there compared to the PS4. It was like night and day with the PS4 version. The shimmering was god awful. How can a console that produced Ryse, puke out that? If they are going to be upscaling games on the XB1, then they need to lose that Sharpening Filter. It is garbage.

I have high hopes for the XB1, there are some awesome games on it and some great ideas for the whole gaming experience....but whoever thought that it would be a good idea to over sharpen all the games that use the upscaler on the system, should be fired.

This article pretty much sums up my problems with the UI of the XB1.

Quote
This shambling, zomboid clunkiness permeates the entire interface. You have to go into the Games & Apps list to view downloads. Missed game invitations arenít stored, but lost forever. You canít view or manage storage, a spectacularly poor decision given that the 500GB hard drive will be approaching capacity by March. The overall sense is of a design handed over to the team behind the similarly unloved Windows 8 interface, rather than anybody who has used an Xbox 360 regularly or had any familiarity with its strengths.

All in all very happy with the Xbone's overall feature set, capabilities and potential, though slightly disappointed at the kind of "beta" state of things.

That's the exact thought i was getting with a lot of people's impressions

Yeah, I honestly think they were rushed to market to compete with the PS4 launch. I believe that they were originally targeting a Spring 2014 launch, but had to move that up....hence the sort of beta state of the OS. It will get better (it has too) and the games themselves are very good. Ryse looks better than anything on either console. I mean, it's incredible and the only game on either system to make me say "this is true next gen". I don't know how they did it, but MS needs to let all the 3rd parties know what that team did to make it look so good on the XB1.

Congrats. smile

Dead Rising 3 and Ryse are both great. Ryse takes some getting used to, but I am loving it now. It took me awhile to stop playing it like God of War and more strategically. Having that mindset really helped out with my enjoyment of the combat system.

The interface is a bit bewildering, but there feels like there's more next gen stuff on this box.  The voice commands have worked extremely well for us.   My wife is in love with this feature because she can just say Xbox On and the whole damned system comes up without her having to wrestle with turning them on.  At night she's laying in bed tired and just says Xbox turn off, and boom...everything including the TV and Cable box turns off.

Agreed. I feel the XB1 UI has a huge upside to it. It just kind of feels half-baked to me right now. It has the potential to be incredible and does feel much more "next gen" than the PS4 interface. I do love the voice commands as well, when they work....which is about 80-90% of the time. Of course, YMMV on that...

I am sure MS will refine the interface over the course of the next few years. I mean the 360 interface changed pretty drastically (not all for the better, but that's a different story...) from the original shipping interface, so there is room for quite a bit of optimism on that front.

54  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: November 27, 2013, 06:59:40 PM
Well, here are some more impressions of the system after a lot more time with it and the games.

It's a very good, but not great system. As before, my main complaint is the UI. It's needlessly complicated and complex. It really shouldn't be this hard to get around on the system. Also, why is EVERYTHING an app?? I mean come on, settings are an APP? Ugh. I do like the Activity Feed though. It's much better than the "What's New" menu on the PS4.

The exclusive games though, are very good. Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct and Ryse are awesome. I really love Dead Rising 3. It's pretty much worth owning the system for, IMO. The sheer number of Zombies on screen is incredible. I don't like the microtransaction system in Ryse though, or the one that I have heard about in Forza. Come on, I just spend $60 bucks for the game, don't nickel and dime me MS!!!

As for the multiplats, I'm sticking with the PS4 for those. They look better on there and most of my friends are now on the PS4. Still, the XB1 has nothing to be ashamed about on that front. All the games look good, just not quite as good as the PS4 versions look.

Luckily, both my PS4 and XB1 have not had any hardware problems. Thank goodness.

Anyway, I'm happy I got a XB1. Dead Rising 3 makes it all worth it. smile

Maybe I'm cynical, but I don't read anything into both consoles' massive start other than both MS and Sony manufactured more than they ever had previously for their respective launches.

The true health of console gaming in this new generation will be determined by looking at game and console sales over the entire life of the consoles.

On another note, I'll bet Nintendo didn't send out any laudatory messages to either Sony or Microsoft. How many Wii U's have sold after a year? 4 million? Sony and MS got 25% there in 24 hours.

Yep, thing that is kind of lost in all this MS vs Sony fighting, is just how bad Nintendo's future looks. The Wii U continues to have virtually no 3rd party support and is going to look worse and worse visually compared to both the Xb1 and PS4. Add to that the absolutely laughable online and account situation (you sell your system and you lose all your digital games, since they are DRM'd directly to the hardware, not the account)....you see a very bleak and sad future shaping up for Nintendo....but they brought this on themselves by refusing to change with the times and adopt a modern online gaming network and account system.

Agreed. That is the kicker though....once the kinks are ironed out....and right now there are a fair number of kinks, unfortunately. I really see the potential here though and I do admire them for trying to do something new. One day, this system is going to be incredible. I just don't know if that day is going to be a couple months from now....or a couple years.

Hetz... have you figure out how to turn the TV back off after starting it?    I went home but the TV was still playing in the little window (with the TV sound coming through).

Took me awhile to figure out. You highlight the window, then push the button that used to be the start button.....one of the options that comes up is Quit Application. Push that and it will stop.

I think I've figured out that when you install a game, it factors into the % left to install any patches that are needed for it.   So you see 1%, but what you are really not seeing is the patch download that is taking place.

Does that make sense?   Dead Rising stayed at 1% for a while, but then once it got past 5% it not only said it could start playing but also it sped up big time.

Yeah, I get what you are saying and that is probably correct. It kind of goes back to what I was saying though about the UI being rather confusing. If there is any big knock on it, it's that nothing is really explained all that well and there is no way to really see what is going on "behind the scenes", like you could on the 360. I think this will be corrected in time, but right now its kind of annoying me.

How are install times on the Xbox One? There's been some debate over this at NeoGAF today, with some people claiming install times for Ryse well over an hour (seemingly partly because of mandatory software updates that are downloaded before the installation begins) before they were even allowed to start the game, while others claim much shorter install times. I was expecting it to work similarly to the PS4, which I've heard is very fast at least. Hetz, msduncan, you've tried both systems, right?

I just put in Ryse and there is a 1158mb patch that needs to be downloaded for it. I don't know if it downloads that first or installs the game first, I'm honestly not sure how to tell....all I know is that it is installing now. It's at 1% after about 3 minutes.....

It did take quite awhile for Dead Rising 3 to install, but I didn't time it. If I had to guess, I believe it took around 20 minutes. The PS4 seems much faster in this area.

*edit* There was a patch for Dead Rising 3 as well, I believe it was around 500MB.

*edit 2* The Xbox just popped up while I was watching TV with a notification that Ryse was "Ready To Start". It's not done installing....but I can start it after about 10 minutes or so.

Mine just arrived, has been unboxed, and is now patching.

Fit and finish:

1.  The Day One boxing was great.   black, sexy, with a lot of girth
2.  The console itself is smaller than I had built it up to be in my mind.   I love the modern, simple, elegant looks.
3.  I love love love the controller.   It is the old familiar and mostly perfect 360 style controller.    No surprises.
4.  It's patching fast.   In the time it took me to type this, the update went from 0 to 20%

Yeah, I was expecting a meltdown of the servers. This is one big thing that MS did right over Sony. It was a flawless install and Live works. None of the PSN problems that Sony had.

Kudos to Microsoft!  thumbsup

I've got a Hetz impression:

Sony! Sony! Sony! Awesome! Sony!

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

 icon_lol

Seriously though, I've been holding off on my impressions...since I have yet to play a game on it. I will do that later this afternoon.

I can however give my impressions of the interface/UI. It is both awesome and confusing at the same time. The potential is there, no question about it. The concept is incredible and it mostly works. As I expected, Kinect is not flawless or even a massive improvement this time around. I'd call it more Kinect 1.5, rather than Kinect 2.0. Does it work better than the original, yes....most of the time. It is able to ID me much better than the old Kinect. The old Kinect used to think I was merged with a chair or part of someone else that was playing much of the time. No such problems this time. It can track me fairly well and not get confused when others are in the room. The voice control however, is hit and miss. Even when talking slow and when nobody else is talking. It works most of the time....but when it fails, it does so epically. It will open the wrong app or snap something to the side when I never even mentioned anything about snap.

My main issue with the UI is this....it is confusing as hell. There is so much going on that you really have to dig to find what it is you are looking for sometimes. I am sure I will get better at it, but as of right now....I like the PS4 UI better. Sure, it is not as complex or maybe even complete as the UI on the XB1, but I know right where everything is and can access it right away. It took me about 5 minutes to figure out everything on it. I am still figuring out stuff on the XB1, which can be good as there is a LOT of stuff in it....but also bad cause it's still quite daunting. I like to think I am pretty seasoned in electronics/computing etc...I shudder to think what some parent that purchased this for their children for Christmas will think. Hopefully they can make things a little more clear as the UI progresses.

I do like the "Challenges" thing. They are basically 0pt achievements that can be earned for pretty much all the apps and games. You can win Avatar items or in game items by completing these timed challenges....like killing 5,000 zombies in Dead Rising 3 in the next 6 days. Pretty awesome.

Anyway, those are my first quick thoughts on it....all in all....I like it. It's new and different. I am looking forward to seeing what the games are like later today.

Just brought Killer Instinct and Xbox Fitness since they are free.  Should be ready to download to my XB1 tomorrow

 thumbsup

I supposedly am getting Killer Instinct with all the characters unlocked for free from MS.

I am sooooo tempted to pick this up tonight. It LOOKS incredible. I would love to play it just for the sheer spectacle of it.

Ugh....I love the setting and I love the graphics. I know when I see it there I will cave....

Xbox Live experiencing sporadic interruption.  Some are speculation that it's affecting all of MS Xbox sites .. DNS errors and such and it might be a DDoS attack

Yeah, I read that as well. Hope things get sorted out by Midnight!

If you guys don't think MS is worried about RRoD v.2 then you can see this article about what's inside the XB1

Btw, looks like you can change the drive, but you'll be voiding your warranty if you do

yeah, that looks like it would be fairly simple.  of course, getting the OSs and not getting banned from XBL would be two concerns.

Yeah, that would be a major concern for me. I wouldn't want to chance that.

Also let's not confuse DLC with boosts, payed bypasses, and pay gates.  Horse armor was silly but also wasn't any of those things.  It does sound like some of these titles feature these F2P style micro transactions,  EA started doing this late last gen too.

Yeah, in Ryse you can pay gold (which you can buy with real money) to fully upgrade your character. It's not the same as horse armor or DLC. It's just like EA does with their "time saver" stuff.
