In some  funny news of the day :

"Xbox 360 Kinect owners had some trouble today watching Microsoft's Xbox One reveal due to device's response to "Xbox" commands spoken during the livestream."

 icon_lol

Yep, I read that and burst out laughing.

Imagine on the Xbox One, since the Kinect is required to be connected at all times, if someone yells out over a mic while you are playing call of duty, "XBOX, SHUT DOWN".

Oh the hilarity that will ensue over Xbox Live over this whole Kinect requirement thing....

Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.

Harrison: Correct.

Also in that same article, you need to activate every game over the internet before you can play it.

Here's how the system works: when you buy an Xbox One game, you'll get a unique code that you enter when you install that game. You'll have to connect to the Internet in order to authorize that code, and the code can only be used once. Once you use it, that game will then be linked to your Xbox Live account. "It sits on your harddrive and you have permission to play that game as long as you’d like," Harrison said.

Thanks for giving me permission to play a game I just purchased, Mr. Harrison! Though, if my internet is down....I guess I am SOL. Oh well....

This whole thing just sounds worse and worse.

I just hope they keep that BS away from the PC... oh, wait, welcome console players! biggrin

lol...yeah that is true....but here is something I saw on NeoGaf:

PC vs Xbox 1

 Xbox1
 _________
 Have to install all games.
You can play with friends on live for a fee.
You can't sell your games that you activated, though you may get partial credit for the game by deactivating it on your system and "trading" it into Microsoft
You can't upgrade your console's performance.

 PC
 _____
 Have to install all games.
You can play with friends on Steam, Games For Windows Live, Origin, the internets for free.
You can't sell your games that you activated, but you may install it on maybe 3 different systems depending on drm. hmm
You can totally pimp out your PC.

But what if you want to bring a game disc to a friend's house and play there? You'll have to pay a fee—and not just some sort of activation fee, but the actual price of that game—in order to use a game's code on a friend's account. Think of it like a new game, Harrison says.

"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," he said. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."

"They would be paying the same price we paid, or less?" we asked.

"Let’s assume it’s a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price," Harrison said.

The fee is FULL RETAIL PRICE.  frown

Our man on the ground Tom Bramwell was able to speak to corporate vice president of Microsoft Phil Harrison about this hot-button issue and was able to confirm that a second user can install a game from a friend's disc for a fee, though it's unclear how much this will be. Harrison also confirmed that several users sharing a console can access the same game at no additional charge, and Microsoft has "a solution" for the resale market, though it's staying mum on those for now.

well at least that part is cleared up

There is an interview on the subject in that link with Phil Harrison

Well, that's good to know! Thanks for posting that.

I still really want to know what the "fee" is for installing a friends disc or used game/rental, since all games have to be installed. I assume it will be $5-$10 less than the full retail price of the game....since you are getting the full game by installing it.

So here is where I'm angry - Rock Band.   I and others on this forum have a plethora of Rock Band songs that we'd love to continue to play, but that's just not gonna happen without running two systems.  Similarly, anything you have on XBLA is now trash.  Those are purely digital - there is no reason they couldn't be ported.  Hell, give me an option to pay a fee to move it and I'm happy....but no.  Instead, locked out completely.

Oh god....I know. I have to keep my Xbox 360 now, just for the Rock Band stuff alone. I have way too much invested in that to just throw it all away, digitally. frown

So there is some info from Wired (I'd have to locate it) that there is some way to deactivate the game on the original system so the new person doesn't have to pay. We'll have to wait for details.

when buying a used game,i wonder how many people would've deactivated the game first before they sold it off

There was some talk about the person doing the installing deciding whether to deactivate or pay - so you could give to a friend for a low price or sell it off expecting that you will not be able to play it again. No idea, definitely need more info. MS is doing themselves no service by making it a mystery right now.

This is all really confusing. They need to come out now and say how it will work and how much it will cost....or else people will just jump to the worst case scenario. They need to get ahead of this story.

Seriously though, even hardcore Xbox fans have got to be a little upset with the new console. It just seems like Microsoft wants to be all things to all people....but will end up doing nothing well. The whole three operating systems thing, sounds like a complete disaster waiting to happen as well....given their track record with operating systems.

I am sure I will get one at some point....but I am just not psyched for it the way I was for the Xbox 360 or even the original Xbox.
11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New Xbox: Always online, no second-hand games, 50GB Blu-ray and new kinect(EDGE) on: May 21, 2013, 09:00:04 PM
Ok, so I haven't read this entire thread so apologies if this all has been said already.

I was left really not impressed with the whole conference.

First off, does this thing play games? You would be hard pressed to figure that out if you watched only the first 15-20 minutes of the conference. It was all about watching the Price Is Right and being able to go on Internet Explorer while watching TV (insert fake/MS employee applause here). Newsflash, I can do that already Microsoft, it's called an iPad.

Secondly, what the heck are they thinking with the name and design??? Xbox One?? Why? The design is just horrid. It's a huge black box. Looks like some old late 80's/early 90's cable box or VCR. The Kinect looks like Johnny 5 was beheaded and thrown on top my TV.  *cries*  Now, the PS4 hasn't been shown publicly yet, so that might also look horrendous, but my god man.

Add to all that, the no used games and no back compat..... frown

The controller though, I like it. It's a great upgrade from the current controller, without being radically changed.

I got the Xbox 360 right away last time, in fact I had it a week early. I won that contest they had going with Pepsi or whatever where they were giving one away every 15 min...but I also had it preordered at Gamestop and would have picked it on launch day anyway. This "One" though....I am really thinking I will pass on it until at least the first price drop....which really pains me, since I get all consoles at launch, at least until now.

I will get the PS4, as I was mightily impressed by their press event and love the whole Playstation Plus thing.

And the specs of the PS4 are out (very sorta):

http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/130221a_e.pdf

Or an AMD 8 core processor (so a 4 core with 'hyper-threading or whatever AMD calls it, unknown speed)
An ATI Radeon graphic card that can do 1.84 TFLOPS (exact one unknown)
8GB of GDDR5 RAM (so the stuff normally in graphic cards)
HD (of unknown size)
6x Blu-Ray drive, 8x DVD drive (read only on both)

The only thing that scares me a bit is going to be the price of this thing. The Geforce Titan will have 6GB of GDDR5 and cost $1000. That is only a graphics card! Either Sony will have to take a HUGE loss on this or it will be $600-$700. I just don't see any way it can be under $400 with these specs. If it is over $500....then I don't see any way that it will be that successful. The Vita obliterates the 3DS in features and power...but it is more expensive and the 3ds is killing it in sales. I fear the same thing may happen with the PS4. It's a beast of a machine...but it may price itself out of contention.

Is it going to be the new 3DO system???

he did say Partnered with SONY though,is that not what it means,or can they 'Partner' with Microsoft at the same time?

You know, I could see Diablo 3 being exclusive to the PS3/PS4 and World of Warcraft being exclusive to the Xbox. Fits with the new Xbox and their wanting to be the "entertainment" system and the PS4 being for the more "core" gamer.

Well, I'm sold. I love my PS3 and Vita. Can't wait to see what the PS4 has in store for me later this year! smile

Also, the ability to play ALL my PS4 games on the Vita via Remote Play?? This is what the PS3 should have done! Just killed the main advantage of the Wii U for me.  Seriously, how can the Wii U even hope to compete against the PS4 and the new Xbox? The online and community features the PS4 has (not to mention the graphics etc...but that goes without saying) and the new Xbox I am sure will have, just make the MiiVerse and Nintendo Online look really sad.

Hey gang,

As you may have seen in our recent announcement regarding the release of Rock Band Blitz tracks as singles, Rock Band DLC production has gradually slowed over the past 5 years. We’ve managed to maintain a consistent release schedule for a staggering 275 consecutive weeks, releasing over 4,000 songs for the Rock Band Platform, but in recent months we’ve scaled production down as we’ve transitioned resources onto other projects. With several new titles in development and developers needed to usher these new games along, April 2nd will be the last weekly DLC release for Rock Band.

While there is no content currently scheduled beyond April 2nd, we still have DLC releases lined up for the next few weeks, including the remaining tracks from RB Blitz, several Pro guitar upgrades, and a handful of artists who have not yet appeared in Rock Band. We’re incredibly proud of the DLC milestones we’ve set, especially producing the largest music library of any game available, and we wouldn’t have been able to release as much outstanding content without the support of our amazing community. As thanks to the community, we’re going to continue the ongoing DLC sale of 50% off over 1,100 songs so fans can continue to build their personal libraries from our back catalog.

We hope that you’ll all agree that this has been a tremendous run, and you should know it’s a ride that we at Harmonix have been thrilled to be a part of. We’re going to continue to support the forums and RockBand.com and hope to still see you rocking out online, in photos of Rock Band parties shared on Twitter and Facebook, or here on the forums. Whether you waited in line for a midnight release of Rock Band over 5 years ago, or you just joined the party with Rock Band Blitz… whether you’ve downloaded every single song we’ve ever released, or you’ve just played on disc songs until your neighbors moved away… whether you’re a metal shredder, or a bubblegum pop singer… thank you for being a part of our band.

Ok....so there is a bug of sorts when you try to add friends. If u go through the friend list app...u will send an invite but the other person will never see it. They will just have to know to add u manually. No notification or anything. In order to properly add someone u have to gothrough the miiverse app and "search users" then add them from there that way they will get the notification that u want to be friends.

Yeah, I realized that too. I don't think it's a bug, but rather a "feature." It's not perfect, but people tend to forget how crappy the Xbox 360 and PS3 were when they first launched. If Nintendo is smart, they'll work all this stuff out in the coming months.

Yeah, that is why I am giving them a *pass* on this issue/feature. Xbox Live and PSN have come a long way since they were introduced. I have no doubt that Nintendo will fix things up and improve on things. It just sucks that Nintendo didn't do this a long time ago. It's just kind of embarassing that they are just now getting a proper online service up and running. Anyway, the Miiverse stuff has a ton of potential. I am eager to see what they can do with it.

I just got mine this morning, been updating, playing with settings, messed with Mario and Nintendo Land. I'm impressed. The screen works very well, and it's cool to be able to play console games without even having to turn the TV on. Out of the promised TV functionality, the only video app available at the moment is Netflix, and it works really well. Switching between watching on TV and watching on the Gamepad is instantaneous, and when you're watching on TV, the Gamepad functions as a way to access different options like Closed Captioning, or manage where you are in the show/movie. Nice touches here.

Nintendo Land and Mario U both are tons of fun. Played them both with my girlfriend and I found myself enraptured with a Mario game for the first time since Mario Galaxy. Nintendo Land has lots of stuff to do, the minigames are pretty fleshed out, and most have a bunch of levels and options available, giving that one some actual lasting power. Granted, console launches are usually the worst time to buy a system, as anyone who got an Xbox 360 at launch can attest to. But once a few of the other games start hitting and developers stop porting and start getting real (by making games that actually take advantage of the system), I think this thing can be magical given a few months. I can't wait for Pikmin 3, that's for sure.

I'm planning on picking up Zombi U and COD: BLOPS 2 at Toys R Us today, as they're having a buy 1 get 1 40% sale on Wii U games. I hear good things about BLOPS 2, both in general and with the Wii U version, so I'm excited about that.

If anyone wants to friend me, my Nintendo ID is davidrobots. Add me and I'll add you back. Hope to see you guys in the Miiverse!

Added you as a friend! Anyone else get the Wii U today and has a Nintendo ID yet?

So I'm torn....part of me says "you have to buy it - product will arrive and you can't review it without the hardware" but recent hands-on time left me cold.  ZombiU turned out to be less fun than I thought, NintendoLand is essentially Wii Sports (minus the Luigi's Mansion portion which is a blast to play), The Wonderful 101 was amusing for a short while but got VERY repetitive after only 5 minutes, I don't sing so Wii U Sing is out, I beat Assassin's Creed III, Darksiders II, and Batman: Arkham City, I don't care about FIFA13, I already own CODBLOPS2, and I'm not interested in Skylanders Giants.

This leaves....
Scribblenauts Unlimited
New Super Mario Bros U
Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two

One of those I can pick up on another platform, Scribblenauts is a passing fancy, leaving only one game I'm interested in.  Granted, when I played it, it was fantastic. I will absolutely buy it when other titles fill out my interest range, but as this launch list stands, this is one console I can't honestly either recommend or justify to myself.  Just my 2 cents...

For what it is worth.....I hear that CODBOPS2 is very impressive on the WiiU. I held off getting it for the PS3 and Xbox because of what I was hearing and it seems to be well worth the week wait. I haven't played yet, but from people that have....they say it looks just as good as the 360 version, if not a bit better. You can also play entirely on the Gamepad screen, while someone else plays on the TV, for multiplayer over the internet. That alone, makes me really excited for this.

My understanding is that the developers got less than a year of development time on this title from Activision. There's no way you can deliver quality in that time, particularly not when you're developing for a new platform. Compare that with Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which apparently had nearly 3 years.

Yeah, I heard that they got a whole 5 months to work on the game....and it shows. I can't believe that they have the balls to charge $50 for this! I mean come on. It's absolute garbage. frown

Watched the Gametrailers live WiiU event yesterday and other than the moron host ("WiiU games are on Dual-Layer DVD!!!" Uhhh...no they are not. They are 25GB Blu-Ray like discs. Tekken Tag 2 is a 18GB download on the Nintendo Network, so how the heck would it fit on one disc, if it was a DVD!?!?) it was pretty cool. The controler is freaking awesome. I am really impressed with the off screen play thing.

I am really nervous though about the Day 1 system update  thing. Gametrailers revealed that it was supposed to be out on Wednesday, but it still isn't out yet. It enables all the online features like Miiverse, the e-Shop, Nintendo Network online play, etc....not exactly inspiring confidence.

I am really excited about being able to play Assassins Creed 3 directly on the Gamepad, while someone else is watching TV. I think that this is one of the coolest things about the WiiU gamepad. I know not every game supports it, but the ones that do are a pretty impressive list: Call of Duty: BO2, AC3, Arkham City, Darksiders 2, Super Mario Bros U...etc...

It basically makes the WiiU the most advanced portable system on the planet! smile

Anyway, in addition to the games I got....I will be picking up Mario and Black Ops 2 on Sunday. I also confirmed with the manager at Best Buy that my preorder is ready to go. They got the systems in yesterday and got enough to cover all preorders (all 7 of them) plus a bunch extra.

It sucks that this was delayed until Nov 13th for the Xbox/PS3/Wii and PC. frown

It did come out today for the Vita, DS and 3DS. I got the Vita version and it is pretty cool. It has the free-roam world just like the console/PC version. I don't know if the 3DS and DS versions have that though.

5.0 from IGN. Disappointing.

Dang....well I got it anyway, since I needed to get something to get up above the $100 for October to get $20 back on PSN.

So, this came out today for the Vita (as well as the DS and 3DS) and it seems like it is pretty much the same as the console versions. I got to Bree in the story mode, then fast-traveled back to the Shire. I could run around the Shire. From the shire I could walk to Bree through free-roam, but the distance was almost non-existent. Still, at least it does have free-roam like the consoles.

I don't know if it is the same as the 3DS and DS versions....but it seems the Vita version is pretty much the same as the PS3/Xbox versions! Of course, the console versions have been delayed until the middle of November for some reason....so I don't know if they are 100% the same.

Anyone else pick this up?
