Same here. Once I was able to fix the horrendous hitching problem with the framerate, the game has been very enjoyable. I can see how others may not enjoy it though. Its a very love it or hate it kind of game and things are not really explained at all to you. I can easily see people getting frustrated or bored within the first few hours. If you push through that though, there is quite an enjoyable open universe to explore!

So what did you have to do to get you FPS hitch fixed? Been on the fence with this one.

I was able to completely fix my hitching issues by going into the nvidia driver control panel and turning the Shader Cache to OFF on the No Mans Sky preset. Dont turn it off on the global default profile, only No Mans Sky. If you change it in the global preset, then every other game will have hitching problems. For some reason, there is a problem with the Shader Cache on No Mans Sky. Once I did this, it fixed everything and I am having no more issues at all.

This issue will be fixed in a patch early this week, but this is a work around to use until then.

Where the hell do you get "fail" from that?  I see Sterling's review again, and some Polygon grumbling, but everyone else is cautiously positive.
Currently sitting at a 70% on metacritic, which is generally considered pretty low.  For what its worth, I have enjoyed many games in the 70 percentile range but many people consider anything lower than 80 untouchable.

You need to unlearn this kind of thinking. We've been trained to accept it by over a decade of nothing but safe AAA games that were made to appeal to everyone, so review scores typically stayed within a set range. The last few years have seen a rise of less popular, niche genres that quite simply aren't meant for everyone, or even a majority, of players. No Man's Sky is such a game. Many reviewers and players will go into it expecting it to be for them, and will blame the game when they realize it isn't. What you need to do if you're looking for reviews is to look for the reviewers that have preferences that are similar to your own. The Metacritic score is worthless for niche games because of these factors.

As for myself, I've played the game for 12 hours since yesterday, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I get completely absorbed in it and spend a great lot of time on each planet I visit.

Its too bad that the PC version isnt looking like it will be funded, but I am quite happy with RB4 now. As has been mentioned, it was missing some stuff that should have been there at launch, but with the April update this week bringing back setlists, the majority of functionality that was in RB3 has now been put in Rb4.

They have really been impresive with updating the game and not just washing their hands of it, so it must still be making money for them, even if sales are not as impressive as they once were.
4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: EA Access - worth it? on: April 04, 2016, 06:14:44 PM
I think it is worth it, especially if you enjoy their sports games. I havent regretted being a member. I usually only purchase or play Madden, but I am able to play all their sports titles for "free" with it.

Very happy about having picked up a XB1. All my DLC was on the 360 and I am sure they wont allow cross platform DLC transfers.

I have been happily rocking out with RB3 with custom songs ever since the official DLC ended. I am really excited about RB4 as well. Wish they supported the keyboard, but I hear they may add it later on via a DLC expansion.

Errr while I use the XB1 pretty much daily as my entertainment hub central, I am curious what the UI improvements have been.  I honestly haven't noticed much difference since day one.  In fact now I have more trouble finding the Youtube app than I used to, even if I had just used it the night before.  I'm having more trouble getting it to respond to my voice, and more often than not the play/pause interface stuff will pop up out of the blue.

The biggest user impact for me since release was actually the multimedia remote, which is fairly decent but still ultimately a disappointment.  Why didn't they include provisions for the 4 color buttons?  Since some apps like Netflix use, for instance, the Y button to search, I actually have to grab the game controller for that.  Ugh!

The things that I actually have seen improved on the UI, since the launch: being able to rearrange your pins (a godsend and what the heck is taking Sony so long to let me do the same) friend online notifications, the Store is much easier to navigate, battery life indicator, showing how much you have left on the HDD, being able to uninstall parts of apps/games and lots of other smaller things. Granted, much should have been there at launch...but this is a much improved OS/UI than was shipped. Also, I can look forward to monthly updates to make it even the new snapping for Achievements. Pretty cool!

So, as some of you may know, I ended up purchasing an XB1 at launch and ended up returning it shortly after for a variety of reasons (primarily though due to the UI and Kinect nonsense). Fast forward a couple of months and I am able to score an XB1 w/Kinect and Titanfall for $429. At that price I figured I could stomach the Kinect.

Anyway, ever since then my XB1 has been constantly on and my PS4 has been silently crying under the TV. I was so wrong about the XB1. This thing is really incredible. I LOVE that they are doing monthly feature updates for the OS. Sony needs to get with the program here. The UI has gone from being an absolute mess, IMO, to being quite impressive. It's easy to find what you are looking for now. Well done, MS.

Now the games, my god the games. I have played more: Plants vs Zombies, Ryse, Titanfall and Dead Rising 3 then anything on the PS4, ever. I really have barely touched my PS4 in the last two months and never played it like this.

I guess what I am trying to say is: I'm sorry, MS for hating on the XB1 before launch. It really is something special. smile

Well said, while I think the XB1 has a more impressive exclusive lineup this year (Forza, Sunset Overdrive and Halo)...both consoles are going to do great! smile

Got in the Hardline Beta on the PS4. The gameplay shown during the ea conference looked fun!

As for the MS conference...they did a solid job. Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 2 looked incredible. Of course, the Halo collection is going to be huge as well. Fable Legends looked kind of blah and the rest were just CGI, multiplat, or far off. I loved Crackdown on the 360, so I do have high hopes for that.

The best thing to come out of the conference for me though was the Dead Rising 3 DLC being out today! That looks insanely fun. smile

The customer service rep at Best Buy was NOT happy about matching this though, so YMMV....his exact quote to me was "That's impossible! They don't have the XB1 for $429.99." Needless to say, I won that argument.

Is the problem with Kinetic that there aren't many games for it, or that's it's not a very good interface for the system (relative to the price)?

To me, as someone who owns an Xboxne, I would say it's both.  There are no really good games available (or even announced) for it yet, and from what is available it doesn't seem like a terribly huge improvement over the previous Kinect.  It still has lag issues, still has consistency issues, and overall is still slower, more cumbersome and more inaccurate than a button press would be.

There are times it's really cool, like when using voice with it to record something that just happened or pause a video, but as soon as I have to repeat something 3 times just to get it to work I'm going to mostly quit using it.  Basically, I expect consumer technology to work much better than even this improved Kinect does, especially after several years and a second iteration.

I agree with this. I owned an Xbox one and while I never bought their whole "this time the Kinect will be AMAZING" BS, I was pretty shocked at just how bad it was. It's only a marginal improvement over the first Kinect and is pretty worthless as a game control device.

The concept of the Kinect is WAY better than its execution.

Has microsoft released actual XboxOne80 sales numbers? I know they released consoles shipped, but I'm wondering just how far behind they are with actual consumer sales compared to the PS4. This seems like a rather large step to take so early on and my guess is they really needed to stop the bleeding. So just how bad is the bleeding?

No, they've only released shipped numbers in 2014, while Sony has released its sales numbers. This means the two numbers are impossible to compare properly. The shipped numbers from last month were worse than projected for Microsoft, but better than the last console generation at the same time, for what it's worth.

I have a feeling that the latest NPD figures that are due to be released shortly are going to be VERY VERY bad for the XB1....which is why they are getting this news out here, instead of waiting until E3. I think it's got to be the PS4 selling at least 2x the XB1 for MS to kill off the Kinect this quickly and letting the news out before E3.

That said.... I am SO GLAD the piece of shit that is the Kinect has been killed off. It was honestly no better than the 360 version when I used it and just seemed so forced and un-needed. They are really going to have to change the UI though, thank god. This is exactly what the XB1 needed. Looking forward to E3 and seeing what exclusives I am now going to be playing on the XB1.  icon_biggrin

Quote from: Purge on January 05, 2014, 04:40:34 PM

Bound by Flame is a action/role-playing game for PC, PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360®, that lets you play a mercenary possessed by a flame demon in an ambitious Dark Fantasy universe.

As a victim of this demonic influence, players will have to choose between the powers offered by this evil or to reject the demonic influence, developing heroic talents instead. Dangers, and enemies becoming more terrifying and fearsome in battle, will be temptations to acquire more power by giving up part of the hero’s soul to the demon. Progression of the demonic influence will be reflected by the transformation of the hero’s body.

Through its different chapters, Bound by Flame will offer many quests around a primary, epic adventure. Depending on the choices made by the player and the influence of the demon, some chapters will offer different scenarios and a different experience, adding important replayability to the game. Real-time battles are impressive and dynamic. If the player begins the game knowing only the basics of combat, fire magic, and assassination, he will be able to specialize by unlocking and improving many skills and powers, through 3 different skill trees.

Bound by Flame lets the players customize their character. During the creation of their hero, players will be able choose their gender and freely alter their facial characteristics. This will of course have an influence on the demon’s appearance. Bound by Flame also includes a crafting system, allowing them to create and improve equipment, including their armor and weapons. Several companions will join the player during his quest, and will, depending on the player’s actions, develop friendship, romance or rivalry.

Finally, the bestiary of Bound by Flame is rich and spectacular.

You will get to fight many other impressive creatures: shadow dragons, liches, undead, ice creatures… epic confrontations abound. Which path will the players take? Will they lust after the demon’s power and magic to annihilate their foes, or will they favor their combat skills and their bravery?

Bound by is targeted for release on PC, PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360® at the end of 2013.

PS4 was recently added. At this point I wouldn't count on this to be final. We're likely to see this on XB1, if for nothing but the fact that they're willing to put it on the 360.

Watching the trailer I got the "Phantagram" vibe. You know, cool game, but somehow awkward and clunky.

Yeah, it looks like there will be no Xb1 version, unfortunately. The official reason is they got their dev kits late and didn't want to hold up development of the game to get a xb1 version out. They also have been rather disparaging in their comments about the I don't see it in the cards for the system.

So, my wife now owns a slim Vita and I got the Borderlands 2 code. smile

The slim Vita is quite nice and the screen is pretty good. I still prefer the OLED screen, but the LCD screen on the slim is not bad at all.

As for Borderlands 2, it's awesome on the Vita. I was a little scared about how it would look, based on screenshots...but I am happy to report that it looks great on the Vitas screen. I can't tell the difference between the PS3 and vita versions do the game. The only thing you have to get used to is the controls which map things like melee to the back pad...which can mean there will be a lot of unintentional melee done by you when you are first starting out. After a little bit though you adjust and haven't had any problems since.

Man, the Vita is rocking for me this year. Lots of great games and remote play on the PS4 is fantastic.  icon_biggrin

I also suspect that there was turmoil over whether or not Nathan Drake would be the main character in U4.

Out of all the speculation, this one makes the most sense to me. My opinion is that Nathan Drake was not going to be the main character in U4, or maybe not be in it at all, and that did not sit well with Sony or the heads of ND. They view Nathan Drake as their golden goose and to not have him in the game would be taking a major risk and one they did not want to take.

Way, way too early in the generation to start predicting winners and losers, anyhow.

We don't have a complete picture until we get the 360 data. Why would Titanfall create a substantial demand for XB1s with a comparable 360 version around the corner? It doesn't make sense to me.

I agree, but I think MS was clearly hoping it would have a bigger impact on XB1 sales than it did. They even delayed the 360 version twice to ensure that it would have the maximum impact.

I believe that the only way Titanfall could have had the impact that MS was hoping for is if they made it a complete XB1 exclusive (no PC or 360 version) but there was no way EA would agree to it. They took enough heat and loss of sales with the decision to kill the PS3/PS4 versions of the game.

I'm genuinely surprised. I figured with the 'price cuts' and Titanfall this would have been the month the X1 surpassed the PS4 in units sold, at least in the US.

Same here. I was completely shocked that not only did the XB1 lose in March in the USA, they are getting beaten badly in the rest of the world. They have "sold-in" to retail 5mil vs the PS4's 7mil that were actually sold to customers. That is a big difference and a rather large problem, especially with "Yes, But OMG Have You Seen Titanfall?!?!?" not having anywhere near the kind of impact that Microsoft was clearly hoping it would have.

I am desperately hoping for a price cut for E3 and a Kinect-less SKU for Christmas so I can get back on board with the XB1.

PC version obviously looks better, but it's not a huge difference at all. I would assume the difference to be even less between the Xb1 version and 360 version....though I have not played the XB1 version.

Bluepoint has done an incredible job on this. Graphically it is not much worse than the other versions and it plays great.

Yep, again showing why there was a complete media blackout on the 360 version along with the delay. It was too good and MS was probably worried it would reflect poorly on the XB1, if launched at the same time. Smart business move, but not really fair to the consumer.

I wonder if Titanfall 2 will come to the PS4? Titanfall is practically the sole reason for the Xbone having sold any units. I wonder if Microsoft will give a blank check for it in order to get complete exclusivity? I'm guessing Respawn isn't a publicly traded company so they can't go hostile take over route but they could offer the guys in charge an insane amount of money.

At this point, it would take a major miracle to have Titanfall 2 as an Xbox exclusive. If MS was willing to spend the insane amount that EA would demand for it and take a major loss, then they would be better served cutting the price of the Xb1 to less than the PS4. That would sell way more units of the system than Titanfall 2 exclusivity ever would.

As the article linked above stated's not going to be exclusive anyway.

Those reviews are good enough for me. I didn't expect Game of the Year, I just want something to play besides Knack.  icon_biggrin

Exactly! smile

I was not expecting it to be the second coming....just a fun superhero type game that looks awesome. I loved the other games in the series (and so did my wife), so I am perfectly fine with it being similar to the others. What exactly were some reviewers expecting?

It's the same with Titanfall, which unfortunately seems to be what everyone is comparing it to, even though they are completely different. I went into TitanFall expecting a fun multiplayer shooter and I got that. I understand that MS wants people to think it is the second coming, but I wasn't expecting it to be, and I had fun.

Overall, I think people just need to stress less over reviews. They are just opinions and everyone just has to learn to relax and enjoy the games. smile

Early reports are that the game should take 10-12 hours per playthrough (assuming you want to play through once as good and once as evil). Full platinum ~30 hours.

I wish it was a little longer but I think it will still be worth the money seeing as it's the only thing I have to play on the PS4. smile

Dead Nation is fun in short bursts but honestly I'm a full AAA game kind of guy. These little indies just don't do anything for me.

I enjoy Dead Nation. You are right, it is fun in short bursts. I am a full AAA kind of guy as well, but then I got all the multiplat stuff on the I still have lots to play. I also love how lots of the indie stuff has been free for PS+. Don't starve, Outlast and Dead Nation are all great free games. smile
