I've been chipping away at Child of Light. While the combat can get a little tedious, I'm still enjoying it a great deal.

I also had a surprise play session today. My son (2) decided he wanted to play a game today, picking up my Xbox controller and pointing at the TV. I didn't really have anything installed but Guacamelee, which I had downloaded as the freebie this month and had never tried.

He had a BLAST just making the guy move and jump. Then my daughter, who is almost 5, came in and she started playing co-op with him. She could actually control it well enough to fight some of the more basic enemies, so they were going to town on it. I got so wrapped up in the fun they were having that when they got tired of it I wound up playing another hour or so myself. It really is a terrific game and I got hooked pretty hard!
More importantly, though, I saw a glimpse of my next-gen gaming buddies!

Awesome.

All this talk bout learnin makes me tired.

Ha, try doing it again, school is far more draining at my age than most of the jobs I have had over the years. Plus I don't even get the social element like I would if I was still 20. It's weird being around 20 year olds all day (and not being their supervisor), although everyone has been really cool to me. Just sucks when you are talking to a girl and then you remember you are twice her age! icon_frown I don't envy these kids though, a lot of them are working full time and going to school full time. I can't even imagine doing that.

I am intrigued by your degree Isgrimnur, I had never heard of it. I love computers, but I ruled out CS because of the math. I wonder if I should look more in that area? Although I do quite like accounting, I just don't know how far I am going with it since certification will take quite awhile (if I go that route).

Cool perspective. Keep up the good work! Just hands off the 20 yr old girls! Um, or not.

Going to try to finish up Wolfenstein - I'm only 1-2 hours from the end. After that on the console side it will be Child of Light, and on the PC The Wolf Among Us. Trying to knock out some quick wins before The Last of Us hits on the 29th.

I'm not quite as far, but I'm def enjoying it and clearing it off my backlog before TLOU.

I gave up on the concept of banning guns ages ago.  But I support reasonable applications of gun control.  One of the more reasonable applications would be allowing a business to tell you NOT to bring firearms into their establishment.

And before it comes up, that's NOT the same as allowing a business owner to refuse service to gays, blacks or jews.  Guns you can leave in the car.  Your color or sexual preference can't be.

Unless you have a detachable penis. Remember that 90's song? Anyone? paranoid

Another group is planning a lawsuit against the Chief Wahoo logo for the Cleveland Indians.  Unlike Snyder though, Cleveland was already in the process of phasing out the logo in favor of a red block letter C.   I think they realize it was coming and they most likely won't be making as big a stink about it.  Fans, maybe a bit though.  But that's to be expected.

I live in the Cleveland area and not a single person I've spoken too think this is a good idea. Crazy.

A little while ago I saw a lady playing what looked like a matching game on her iPad.  I've played many of these games but I don't think I've ever seen one quite like this.  Instead of a fixed screen like pretty much every one I've played, it seemed like she was scrolling around all over the place and just touching stuff to make it go away (so I don't think it was a swap type of match but I could be wrong).  I've searched through the store for "jewel" and "matching games" but haven't found anything that seemed right.

Anyone have any ideas, or maybe have a wife that plays a lot of these who might know?

Thanks!

It looked like a family game, right?  Maybe google "touching stuff family jewel wife swap" and see what turns up?

lmao!!!

Sounds like inadequate shielding to me. The control cavities should have copper tape or at least conductive paint shielding the controls. At least you know the ground wire is doing it's job.

Played for hours and hours and never heard it again. So only in one setup I've noticed it out of... Well numerous. Not concerned anymore. Loving it. My only problem now is, well the drummer alway wants to get louder and that no bueno.

So far I'm super happy w my new rig. Super clean sound to build on, and my effects sound great layered above that. To bad I get interference at our summer jam spot! Oh well , it's only when I'm NOT touching the strings . Any idea what that could be though? It's 50/50 and I really can't ask everyone to turn off their phones . It's only happened here that I know of so my concerns about my gear are minimal. Just curious .

You were asking effects chains, so I thought I'd chime in since I've got a sort of an interesting setup...

In -> TU-2 Tuner -> Earthquaker Devices Dispatch Master Delay/Reverb -> A/B Box ->
SIDE 1 of the A/B: MXR/Custom Audio Devices Boost/Line Driver -> normal channel on a handwired Vox AC30.
SIDE 2 of the A/B: Mojo Hand Rook Royale run EP boost side -> Rook side -> Way Huge Green Rhino -> Top Boost channel on the AC30 set pretty clean.

Right now I'm using a Big Shot ABY as my A/B, but I've got a custom Loop Master switch on order (they take months to get).

So... Side 1: I run the volume on the amp real low and the boost up pretty high (~+15db), and that sort of compresses it just a little and adds a tiny bit of dirt - that's my 'clean' channel.
Side 2: I run the Rook side of the Rook Royale always on as my basic dirt channel.  The pedal has a routing switch so that you can run one or the other side of it 'first' and then into the other side.  I have the EP boost side in 'front', so if I step on that, I get a more saturated fuzz like thing that is at basically the same volume as my regular dirt volume, since the volume control on the rook side is controlling overall volume of the pedal.  This is really useful for backing leads/harmony leads when I don't want to jump out on top of the mix.

Then I set the volume on the Green Rhino higher, and when I step on that, I get a really nice volume jump for leads I want to sit up on top of the mix.  I also, on one song, will turn off the Rook side and step on the Green Rhino for a clean loud lead tone, and then I switch from my clean channel to that pre-setup 'dirt' channel that is just a second louder clean channel for a twangy, loud lead on an unabashedly old school country song.

Because the Dispatch Master is in front of everything, I can add verb/delay to whichever channel I want, so I'll use it on the clean for a nice country slapbacky sort of thing, or on the dirt for what I think of as a Dan Auerbach sort of lead tone.

I have things laid out not in the order they are used, just so I can step on them where I want to step on them.

I'm really looking forward to getting the loop master because with the Big Shot I can sometimes accidentally hit the 'both' side, which is never really good. The Loop Master will just be strict A/B with different colored LEDs for whichever channel I'm on.

Nice setup! We just moved our practice spot to my buddies barn during the summer. Awesome thus far . We are playing a art studio opening in a few weeks. Oh, music , I love you. nod

Wattage for guitar amps always crack me up. My one guitarist has a 50watt Mesa boogie head and cab. Crazy nice and loud. 50 watts! Ha! Just funny how much more watts are needed to push all that air for bass.

Tubes distort but get louder as you crank it up. Transistors fail not much past the point of clipping. Say you have a 50 tube amp and a fifty watt transistor amp. At full volume, the tube amp is putting out roughly 100 watts of distorted power. A fifty watt transistor amp will start to distort at fifty and the power transistor will burn out at 60 watts.
It also takes more watts to drive the groove than it does for something in the vocal range.

I understand, just think it's silly when you hear someone talk about how "big" a 100 w guitar amp is! Tongue

I'm glad I didn't listen to all naysayers on this one. Starts off weak but then gets better every time  sit down w it. Not perfect, but a great set up for a franchise. If there wasn't so much hype about this game, which Ubisoft is clearly to blame for, I think this would have gotten more 8.5-9.5 range scores.
