2322  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Splinter Cell Chaos Theory impressions on: April 01, 2005, 09:51:21 PM
I`ve been playing this on xbox, so I can`t comment on the pc version specifically, but I think the content is the same. I`ve very, very impressed by this game so far, in every way.

BTW, red storm has NOTHING to do with this or the other splinter cells. Or rainbow six xbox I believe. I think they made ghost recon 1 and 2 though.
And I wouldn`t let the gamespot review sway your opinion, this game is simply alot better than the other splinter cells.

That's not counter to the GS review- it says right in it that it has the best multiplayer and single player of all of the Splinter Cells.

I guess my point is that IMO gamespot isn`t giving this game the credit it deserves. I really don`t care what ratings are, I`m not here to bitch about that. But, when I see people say "I`m not getting this one now because of that gamespot review" I want to slap them, or someone  . It is seriously a GREAT game. I`m only on the 3rd mission and it is REALLY impressive.  The single player, co-op, and vs. all rock. I`m not sure since I haven`t beat it yet, but if it keeps going this way...this is going to easily be on of my favorites of all time. Great game.
2324  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Best PSP Launch Game? on: April 01, 2005, 09:43:49 PM

My honeymoon is still going strong even after a couple system exchanges (one due to my own pickyness, and the other due to a black piece of dust under the center of the screen).

Wipeout is pure gaming bliss on the run.   I can wip out a race in no time flat, and I LOVE the way the PSP just saves where you are when you power off.  I see the downloading potential here too!

I'm going to skip Tiger Woods in favor of Hot Shots when it comes in May.   I'm renting Lumines to find out what the hype is about, and also plan to rent Untold Legends.

The hardware seems very robust and sexy.   I don't mind at all playing it in public areas because it just looks so sophisticated.    My coworkers even turned their heads at Spider Man 2.

So for I have not an ounce of buyer's remorse, and I'm going to sell my DS to pay for more PSP 'stuff' purchases.   Even if it means putting the money aside for future purchases.

Not to be a prick  , but I wanted to let you know that if it "saves where you are" you are NOT tunring it off, just putting into sleep mode. I`m a huge fan of wipeout also!

After browsing the thread, I went ahead and opened up Wipeout.  It took me a while to get used to the floatiness, but now that I have a few races under my belt I'm enjoying it.  My only gripe is the lack of any sort of career mode - all there seems to be are single races or 4 track tournies... other than that, the graphics/sound/complete package are very impressive indeed.  I can't wait to try it out multiplayer!

Don't forget the zone mode.  That's quite fun in itself.  Sure, it's a "how many times in a row can I race around the same lap before having all of my energy depleted", but it's fun to start off real slow and easy . . . and by the end just FLY around the track.

For some reason people aren`t seeing that there are 8 races tournaments also. Good fun.

They don`t mention the crazy amounts of shitty systems out there right now(defects etc.). Sony=lots, Nintendo=lots less. I like both, but that`s the truth.

Arrgh.  Gretzky just corrupted all of its saved data on me with the exception of my options settings.

So my season is gone.  Rosters are gone.  Gretzky challenge progress is gone.  User statistics are gone.  I tried replacing the previous saved data, and when that didn't work, tried a new data save..again, no dice.

I have no idea why this happened or what triggered it.  I finished up a season game (winning 5-4, and getting my first hat trick), and it just wouldn't save.

But hey, at least it remembered how loud I like to have the menu music

I was worried that my whole memory stick went bad, but the data for the other games I have (Lumines, Wipeout) is still there and working fine.

Man, I'm so frustrated right now.

2333  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP - dead pixels? on: March 29, 2005, 08:08:41 PM
While I love this system, I don`t like sony much. Their quality assurance is really low or something. I`m glad I got the warranty or I would be pissed.
2334  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Short Take] Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - Xbox on: March 29, 2005, 08:02:56 PM
I`m also on the 2nd mission, and while I liked the 1st  2 games(yet understood what others didn`t like) this one is WAY better, and just lots of fun.
Very good graphics(probably best on a console), no kidding about the rain on sam`s suit  , crazy amounts of detail in pretty much everything this game has to offer.
The physics are alot better too, they behave realistically and are convincing.
I gave the co-op a quick run last night, but I only did the training since there`s so much other stuff in the game to check out.

Not sure about the pc version, but the xbox version(while lacking 480p support, I think) looks amazing. Best looking console game I have ever seen. There`s a demo for xbox out too if you want to check it out. What resolution were you running the demo at?

 Expensive games
 And HORRID quality assurance

It`s a great system, it just has some flaws.

Mine has 1 dead pixel and I'm exchanging it today.  Grr.

I`d watch out, you might get a worse one...

I exchanged mine at lunch for a flawless one.  I opened it up in-store to make sure that everything was copacetic.  I swapped out the memory card and the battery (since mine was fully charged) and away I went.  I picked up the extended warranty which I know is usually a rip-off, but I just wanted to be safe since this thing is so new.  The girl at Best Buy was really nice about it all (I did use my Masculine Wiles +3 on her).

You know, I had a shoddy deal when I bought mine.  You see, I bought one from a local store here (the "local" Gamestop/EB is about an hour and a half away) and when I asked if I could expect it before I bought it they said that they called Sony and Sony told them NOT to do that.  Which is wonky if you ask me.  But then I asked a local chain after that and they said the same thing - no opening and inspecting.  Weirdness!  I'm glad I got one (I think - from what I can spot) pixel-free.

You have no pixels!!!  I`m just kiddin`, I`m sleepy and hungry right now, don`t mind me  .

I`d say "this may be the best xbox game to date" is pretty enthusiastic  . I`m thinking I`ll love it. I really didn`t have many gripes with the last 2 games. I know lots of you will find that hard to believe, especially since I`m a huge thief fan  .

Here`s some stuff from the gamespy review.

 Pros
Jaw-dropping graphics; solo mode offers more in-mission choices than ever; excellent online co-op and versus multiplayer modes; great sound and score.
 Cons
Default difficulty may be too easy for veterans; graphics look too realistic sometimes.

"Now, Montreal is ready to show gamers what they've spent the last few years creating: one of the best Xbox games of all time." -gamespy

"However, the developers at Ubisoft wanted to ensure that there was more than one way to get through a level, and they've succeeded in crafting the video game version of a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book." -gamespy

"I normally wouldn't care about changing people's view of a franchise or a genre, but this game should be enjoyed by every type of gamer. You can play it however you'd like: stealthily or aggressively, smartly or stupidly, alone or with friends. It's worth checking out, even if you just want to see the most impressive graphics of this console generation. The team from Montreal has shown us that they can deliver the goods. They've also given us a glimpse into the future of gaming, and it's looking brighter than ever." -gamespy

There`s lots more where that came from too  . I`m certainly not trying to change anyones mind. But everything I`ve read on this game makes me really looking forward to playing it!
2343  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / SC:CT(XBOX) tonight I should have it, anyone else? on: March 28, 2005, 08:41:38 PM
They fixed ALOT in the single player from what I`ve read. The alarm system is alot better, same with the ai, and overall it`s alot more open ended and not as difficult from what I`ve read. Once I play, I`ll let you know.

Most stores tomarrow through thursday I think, but my EB should be getting them early. They said after 6pm or so tonight. Give `em a ring if you want  .

It looks like after dinner I`ll be running out to pick this one up. My EB say they should have it around 6pm. Anyone else getting early? I`m really looking forward to playing some online co-op goodness etc. All the reviews for it so far are great, and Ubisoft fixes all kinds of things with the series. I liked the others, I`ll love this one.

2348  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Does anyone here even have a DS? I have some ?? PSP too! on: March 28, 2005, 08:20:18 PM
I`m certainly NOT a kid and I LOVE both. I`ve played games for many years and I`ve played alot of "mature" games too over the years  . That doesn`t mean that the DS isn`t for me, does it? Warioware is freaking boat loads of fun, and last WAY more that 10 minutes. I have had it since day one, and I still play it. I just did on saturday, right after I played my psp... Warioware is just like the older warioware ones besides it uses the touch screen and microphone only. I guess if you only play warioware for ten minutes, you just don`t like good minigames. And for the people that say it`s too short...that`s like complaining about tetris being too short etc. Both are great systems and both will continue to get lots of play around here.
2349  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP warranties and such on: March 28, 2005, 07:42:10 AM
I`m on my first. I have 4 dead pixels and my sound sound gets weird on occasion. Well, only one so far. Hope it stays that way. The sound I just noticed and only once so far I think, and the pixels aren`t noticable unless you are on a black screen, and then still, it`s not very noticeable. I got the EB product replacement plan. Between now and in a year I`ll swap mine out and get a new one +1 more year of warranty. I`ll see as time goes as to when I`ll do the swap. I`ll at least wait until the next few batches etc come, maybe even 6 months or a year. I`m just going to keep an eye on this thing.
My point is, grab the warranty! If I didn`t I`d be pissed. But since I did, I`m enjoying the system instead of being all pissed off at sony. Great system, but poor quality in some regards. Manufactoring seems to one for sure. BUY THE WARRANTY!!! For me it`s like buying peace of mind.
2350  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Does anyone here even have a DS? I have some ?? PSP too! on: March 28, 2005, 07:35:18 AM
I also have both and have played both since I got the psp. Both are great different systems. So far the DS does seem to be a more solid  machine though. At least at launch. Less issues with it(for me at least), but the psp`s issiues(once more for me at least) aren`t dealbreakers and will hopefully stay that way. Both are great systems it seems. Just buy the warranties!

While the number of tracks in Wipeout is a bit disappointing to me (8 plus 4 "Classic" tracks that you can unlock), it really becomes a whole new game once you start working on the faster tournaments.  I put in probably 4 hours today and had a hard time stopping.

For a dramatic change in speed sensation change the camera to internal.

I agree every with everything you said. I`m really suprised how much I`m liking this game.

I played some more wipeout, and WOW!!! The further you get in the game the better it gets. Some of the visuals on this thing are unbelieveable. The fog effects, the lighting, the weather effects(water sticking to the screen etc) are all amazing to see on a handheld. The gameplay is so good, it`s almost impossible for me to put down. Two thumbs WAY up!

2358  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP - dead pixels? on: March 25, 2005, 07:31:39 AM
I don`t think I have any. I didn`t notice any earlier, but just now I saw 3 or 4 dots, dust or dead pixels etc. I did just put on a screen protector, so I think it just something on it. Even if they are dead pixels, it`s only shows on certain screens, not many at all so far, and it`s hardly noticeable. I`m just going to forget about it, and next year when my warranty is about to expire at EB, I`ll bring it in and get another psp+another year of warranty. If these are dead pixels, maybe by then they`ll manufactor the screens a bit differently and there wouldn`t be any, if there isn`t already...  Great frickin` system though. Wipeout is amazing. Same with the spiderman 2 movie. I can`t wait for mercury...
