I thought the talk was you weren't good at this game?

ah, see I didn't say I wasn't any good at the game, what I said was that I don't like the game at all.  which is still true.  I'll play almost any mp shooter if there are enough friends playing (graw was the exception, took it back in 3 days since it sucked Tongue )

I tried it this morning and the zombie modes they chose are really pretty lame imo, wasn't fun at all.

Now that PGR4 is out you can get a cheap used copy of PGR 3

If you like driving games at all, I'd suggest getting the steering wheel from Microsoft for Forza 2 and it comes with PGR3.

I'll be kicking it off early tonight and running late.  Probably start it up around 6pm EST and end around 3-4am EST.  Just join my game or send me a message for an invite.

We'll start off with some small private games to warm up then depending on turn-out might open up some slots to the public if needed for numbers.  Please make sure you have the red and black packs downloaded.

After all the Halo 3 playing and before COD4 comes out I'd like to organize some Rainbow Six Vegas play on Tues nights.  We use both the red and black packs and will play whatever game modes we have the players for and that people desire to play.

Post if you're interested and what time you might be able to make it.

I understand your animosity towards the mode, especially if you don't get into the zombie theme.  There is a goal however, the goal is to survive the time limit if human, and to make sure they don't survive if a zombie.  There is limited ammo also.

I was just happy to finally make a mode that feels like the classic Dawn of the Dead zombie survival rather than the amazingly fast hammer zombies.

I'm up for playing whatever since the next couple fridays are my last H3 fridays since COD4 will be out.
8853  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band Guitars NOT compatible! on: October 26, 2007, 05:47:07 PM
Everything that I had read prior to this news stated that RB guitars will work with GH2 and Rockband.  GH3 guitars will work with RB and GH2 and GH3.  They intentionally made RB work with GH3 guitars I thought, but GH3 makers are being selfish and greedy and won't allow RB guitars to work with GH3.  this right?

Make everyone move about 50% speed and zombies even slower, give people only shotguns and no shields and give the zombies some damage resistance and swords.  Then you have the true zombie-type battles from the classic films imo.
8855  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: [10/26/07] Halo 3 Geezers Gone Wild Episode IV: A New Hope on: October 26, 2007, 02:15:19 AM
I will not be playing Halo 3 once COD4 comes out, I will probably be returning it to Gamefly at that point.  I love playing with you guys and I try to always make the most of it, but I really dislike the gameplay in the end.

limited spawns combined with objectives isn't a great idea imo, but I definitely think limited lives with slayer gives it just the right amount of tension.  People stop being quite so ramboish when they know they have a limit.

I'll try to be there.  Oddly enough I'm finding out that the more I play the less I like the way the objective matches are and am prefering the slayer matches that I did not favor at the start.
8858  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: and the final song in GHIII is... on: October 23, 2007, 11:39:19 AM
Battle mode in the demo really ticked me off.  If you play on different difficulties it's way too easy for the lower skilled player to win.  They will finish the star sections a second or so before the higher skilled player and if they immediately send the powerup to you then you won't finish your star section and therefore can't get the powerup to nail them back.  Basically what ends up happening is they hit you with every powerup and you hit them with none.  Good balancing.... I read through the manual and it does leave alot of questions unanswered.

How does mana acquisition work?  Does the amount of mana you get increase each turn?  And does it carry over from turn to turn?  Given that you receive a mana point as your creature is eliminated I'm guessing that it does.

I'm a little skeptical about the way combat seems to be initiated.  It looks like creatures automatically attack adjacent squares as they are summoned.  I'm not sure I like that mechanic.

The summoning "lock" feature seems like a way to keep power creatures from getting out there too early.  Which is pretty interesting.  But it could leave you very bogged down if you get a bad draw early in the game.

Only 110 cards with 20 on them being "ultra rare" and and 25 being "rare" makes me wonder about card balancing.  41% of the set being rare and above seem really weird.  I think you will see alot of the same deck once people separate the power cards from the chaff.

It does look like an interesting concept.  I'm just not sure it's a concept based on a sound card game.

That percentage of rares isn't really that out of the ordinary compared to most of the popular ccg

The online MP numbers are fading fast overall and exceptionally fast among forum members.  I can't really say I'm displeased with that this time though slywink  I really don't care for the game much and wish we still played R6 and will be playing COD4 when it arrives.

I remember one of the Madden games was set up so that if a player was losing an online game, he could pause the game indefinitely until the other person would finally drop out and take a loss on his record.  One of the GameSpot editors -- I think it was Jeff Gerstmann -- said that he once waited for three days before finally turning the game off and giving up on random online matches altogether.

It seems like developers really need to think ahead and try to plan around whatever the most immature, puerile people are going to do.  icon_frown

I had this same problem on Street Fighter for XBLA when it came out.  Some guy refused to play me since I could beat him and he left it on the character select screen for days without picking a character.  Eventually he either quit or his 360 locked so I got the win but it was really lame.

Both versions on day one.
I know we have talked about this before but I just can't justify it. The plusses of playing on PC for me outweigh the slightly easier time finding MP games and the larger groups of friends. I just cannot justify playing compettive MP shooters on console when I have the PC that can handle it. A rental to play a few rounds with the GT folks sounds like fun though  icon_wink

I'm getting the PC for the eye candy and the fact that I don't plan on touching the MP portion at all.  I played CoD3's MP for all of 30 seconds before deciding it wasn't anything interesting but I've played the first 2 games SP over a few times.

I thought the MP beta on the 360 felt a lot more like a faster paced R6 than a new COD.  You'll be missed on 360 MP CK
8871  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Bungie.net/Halo3 Questions on: October 14, 2007, 11:06:45 PM
Then you'd have people getting put into a game that's already losing.  I know I'd probably want to quit if I got stuck on a losing team with 2 minutes to go.  That would make any stats completely irrelevant.

I think the way they handle it is the lesser of evils and there isn't a better way to do it without screwing over more people.
8872  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Rock Band - nearly at the peak of awesomeness! on: October 14, 2007, 11:05:05 PM
$170 is almost the price of only one console, and even then it's only 2/3 of the price not 'almost the whole thing'

It is a lot of money for just a game, but this isn't just a game it's a social experience.

My one complaint about halo MP is that when someone quits (even as early as the load screen) the match commences regardless of one team being down 1, 2 or even 3 players.

It'd be nice if the match reset or gave the team whose player dropped the option to quit without penalty.

I quit my first match ever today because it was such an exercise in frustration.

Oh and is there any policy on how often bungie updates their stats?

If it did this peopel would just have a team member quit whenever they were going to lose.  It is the way it is because of a lack of non-exploitable alternatives.

Yeah I was just playing on a server with a couple GT/OO people that had about 15-16 people on it.  2Fort seemed really really empty, and a short while later it the losing team pretty much left en masse.  8 man teams isn't even enough to have one of each class.  Still, HL2 on a big screen TV sounds great.

Very curious to see what kind of numbers the 360 version puts out.  Hopefully Valve will be nice and publish some Steam statistics for us as well.

I play HL2 on a big screen TV as it is, along with TF2 slywink  There are advantages to having the 42" monitor.

I'm not sure it's an IED since you don't see anything there pre-explosion and you can see a small black object fall into the frame from above prior to the explosion.  Looks like a missile or bomblet dropping to me.  Good evasive driving though.

Actually that black thing appears to be on the windshield as you can see briefly after he corrects his steering. A bomb would concuss (is that word) downward instead of raising the asphalt up like that.

yep, you're right that the black dot is there twice so can't be anything.

BTW, even though this may be an IED, some bombs do infact direct their blast out and up.  They bury then blow up which could cause the same effect.  I'm guessing this particular explosive is actually buried while waiting for them to come by.

I also have a version of rocket race that is 4 teams of 4 all on prowlers on Sandtrap which is pretty wild.  One version is played with rockets and invulnerable vehicles like rocket race and the other is with plasma pistols and normal damage.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the rocket race in actuality though it's great in theory.  There are always just a few too many people doing nothing but standing around shooting mongooses

I think the insta kills makes a big difference since I'm usually pretty good at being the first to fire even in Halo.  I hate sneaking up on someone, opening up on them and getting killed.  Feels like I was cheated.

I played a bit with a guy who is skill level 44 and it was just the most demoralizing thing I've experienced since my Quake II fiasco.  (wherein I got tired of beating up friends with scores of 100 kills with zero deaths and decided I must be good so should join a ladder.  First game was against the current ladder champion and I only SAW him once the whole match.  frown )

Can't wait for COD4
