I really like this game a lot.  They removed the stuff I didn't like about the burnout series (the intentionally driving through cars and the like) and the added the open world aspect which I've really grown to love.

There is still the same racing feel that you loved in the old games, you just have to start an event to get it.  Not sure why people are having an issue with that.

I played multiplayer for almost 3 hours yesterday and even on the smaller area of town provided and with only 4 people and not many actual objectives, we were all having an absolute blast.

The mug shot on the xbox live camera when you take someone down was funny as hell too.

I went through several original nintendos that either had the pins inside break or the spring loaded cartridge lift break through normal use.  The problems were different then, but there was still the dread with my nintendo on whether it would play my games even after I 'blew' them.  They fixed the issue with the second revision.

Domination tends to depend on your play-style and whether or not your team can get and hold 2 points for the majority of the match.  I can defend and get a good K/d ratio going without too much trouble.  Trying to push for a point can be painful, but usually if you are getting murdered over and over at a point, go around it, or approach it differently, or wait for a couple of people to back you up.

I came on late, hoping for some Halo 3, but everyone was playing CoD4, so I did that.

Was pretty fun, we ended up splitting between into two groups.  The group I was in (ATB and Fuzzyslug, couldn't invite more as we didn't have anyone on the friends list) ended up going up against a clan, and we ended up giving them a good game.

And I managed to claw my way back up to the top of my leaderboard in Accuracy.  Had 18.9% but then I played with the mini-uzi.  now I'm down to 18.87 or something like that. HA.

You can always invite anyone on your recently played list or your Friend's Friends list thanks to the new patch.

Pete, I didn't get the idea that ATB was trying to insult you there, he was trying to poke fun at the way things went down.  I'm rarely on ATB's side of anything, but I don't think he intended it to be malicious.  Can't speak for any H3 shenanigans though.

The ONLY difference between a cult and a religion is the number of followers.  That's not to say anything is wrong with either.

False.  A cult is typically differentiated by the members not being permitted to leave, being segregated from family and friends by force or intimidation, or the use of 'brainwashing' techniques to ensure loyalty and devotion to the cause.  Cults generally require unquestioning obedience to a specific cult leader, who tends to enjoy power and priveliges as a result, rather than to God or a supernatural being as is the case in normal religious belief.  Cults often require sacrifices from members far above and beyond normal religious gatherings, and consequences for not undertaking the sacrifices the cult leader demands tend to be severe; where as in a religion not following the demands of the religion simply means you're no longer a member of that religion.

There is a very wide difference between Cult and Organized Religion.

that's your perceived definition.  I agree that most people think a cult is exactly what you state.  The actual definition of cult does in fact apply to all religions though, regardless of how many different versions there are or how many followers or their level of freedom.

Scientology is a religion and a cult but most people I know think of it as a cult only.  Christianity is a religion and a cult, but most people I know think of it as a religion only.  It's all semantics, but the more religious someone is the more they get bent out of shape with semantics regarding their religion.

now obviously, there comes a point where the speed of other songs is too fast to only downpick.  like Creep for example, I find that a little too fast so I have to alt-pick that

hey, KepoW, do you use a pick?  I found that I keep messing up if I use my thumb to strum like most.  If I use a pick, I have no problems...

great question

personally, even though I play in real life, I usually use my thumb on the RB and GH guitars...it just feels strange using a real pick on the huge strum bars.  although the Les Paul GH3 guitar would probably be the best one to use a pick on

however, if I'm playing on Expert on a song that has gallops (triplets) like The Trooper or Raining Blood, etc, then you have to use a real pick to keep your chain going, if you're playing for score

but otherwise, I like using my thumb the vast majority of songs.  I know other really good RB and GH players that prefer using a pick though, so it's a personal thing

I can usually do those fast sections without a pick, I just lightly put my thumb on top of the bar and my index finger under and strum up and down.

yeah, but can you do that and keep the chain going throughout the entire song on Expert?  for songs like Raining Blood and The Trooper, those are just two off the top of my head that have the triplet gallops

I can pass those songs on Expert using my thumb and index finger exactly like you described...but if you're playing for Full Combo scores, there is no way in hell I can keep a chain going for a long period of time without a pick.  on those songs I mean

I can't do it reliably since I lack the skill, but I have done it once or twice with only missing a couple notes through the whole run so I know it can be done.

It's trickier on the new guitar for me since I have to retrain myself on the 'feel' of it all.

I'll preface this all by saying I'm not a big fan of HQ, Sabotage or Domination, especially since they tend to completely fubar my kill/death ratio and my fun.

Ground War is 9v9 with a mix of Domination and Team Deathmatch on the larger maps.  18 people is a few too many for most of the maps included in my opinion.  It ends up being quite chaotic and you will die very fast in most situations.  I far prefer the 6v6 games.

I like to stick with Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy and the hardcore variants of those since they allow me to control my deaths much better.   I find that in the more objective based games I tend to focus on the objective and die a lot more than I kill since many times the objective is to get somewhere and stay there instead of to kill the opposition.

Of course if we do private matches we can make the game anything we want.  My current favorite for private is to have the hardcore health levels, turn off the air support and leave the HUD and radar active per normal.  This was quite fun.
8741  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: [12/7/07] The Geezers Gone Wild Reunion Tour... on: December 06, 2007, 05:48:51 PM
If we do private parties COD4 allows for up to 18 people.

9 is the limit if we do Ground War against others

6 is the limit for the majority of modes.

It would be possible to form 2 parties of 6 though and through private chat sync them up against each other in a specific gametype.

I'd like either COD4 or R6.  I gave away my Gears of War because the game really just devolved into rolling around sticking grenades and trying to not get hit with a shotgun.  Host lag preference was huge in that game.

I'd prefer COD4 but am always up for R6 as well.  I returned my H3 though, I hated that game and just played to play with you guys smile

I do think they are doing you a favor by offering you a demo.  On one hand it is a form of advertising, but I've not bought many more games based on a demo than those I have bought.  That wasn't worded the best, but I think you see what I'm saying.

When you buy a 360 you are getting a console that plays games.  Without gold I really don't see why people should expect to get anything other than patches anyway.  Gold IS the online component imo.

I'm at 18.3 and climbing on accuracy.  Top of my list is TXJOE with over 25% though.

I did find last night that I simply can't play if drunk on wine.  I usually drink beer or whiskey but with the stupid blue laws I can't buy anything on Sunday.  My sister kept giving me wine and I tried to play with Fuzz and Jarrod and it was atrocious.  3-15 and I fear looking at my accuracy after those couple rounds.

I can play just fine on numerous beers, but something about the wine absolutely killed all ability for me to aim.

Next week, I'll have to make sure I stock up on beverages.  I was gone Fri and Sat and didn't think about Sun until it was too late.

Sorry for bailing Jarrod, it just wasn't going to get any better.

I got my replacement guitar yesterday.  I give Kudos to Harmonix and EA for making the replacement process quick and painless.  The  new guitar works GREAT!!!  The strum bar feels a lot more solid now.  I'm back to being able to get through songs on hard again, and the family and I can finally play the 4 instruments together smile

I actually got a faulty hub with my bundle so I call EA support this morning to get a replacement.  This is more or less how the conversation went:

Customer Service Rep (CSR): Thank you for calling Rock Band Support, my name is (name withheld to protect the innocent).  How can I help you?

Me: Hi, CSR.  My name is Rick.  I bought Rock Band for the 360 a few days ago, and it came with a faulty USB hub.  It doesn't get any power.  I think the connector is busted.

CSR:  OK, Rick.  The first thing that you should do, is turn off your console, unplug everything, give it a minute, plug everything in and try it again.  Usually, the USB hub will work again.

Me: But the hub isn't getting any power.  How is unplugging it and plugging it back in going to work?  I've tried plugging it in several times and to different outlets with the same result.

CSR: You really need to turn off your console, unplug everything, give it a minute, plug everything in and try it again.  Usually, the USB hub will work again.

Me:  OK, whatever.  Thanks for your help (plenty of sarcasm strewn throughout).

So 5 minutes later, I call back, and lo and behold, who picks up the phone?  SAME GIRL.  I told her that I tried her suggestion and no go.  She finally agreed to send me a new hub and a box to return the old one.  I hate customer service scripts.   mad

I loved the call I made to my DSL about the modem getting 80%+ packet loss when it's been on for about 20 minutes.  I was told to restart it, I did, then when I said that it works fine for 20 minutes after restarting he yelled at me 'why did you restart it then!'.  cracked me up.

Anyone who has a Gamertag will probably want to make and use their own dude since they get credit for whatever they do on it.  Barring that though, if nobody cares about using the defaults you only need one controller logged in and the rest can be random people.

you do realize you can just hit the guide button on the controller you don't want to use, sign out by hitting X, then hit the guide button on the desired controller to sign back in don't you?  you never have to unplug anything or power down the console.  it is a bit annoying considering that you never had to do anything of the sort for GH though

I have this problem as well.  Once i either turn off a second controller or switch to a new one (i.e. guitar to drums), the game won't allow me to log in with my gamertag unless I completely restart.

You can't just turn off the controller, you have to log out of your gamertag.  This is how it works on any game with info tied to a gamertag.  You bring up the guide, press X to sign out, choose yes, then you can sign on using any of the other controls.  You don't have to turn off anything, controllers or console.  You DO have to log out.  If you turn off the controller without logging out, your gamertag is still logged on that controller and the console is just waiting for the controller to come back on and will not free up your gamertag.

I grant my failure in this particular point (THANK YOU, TK-421.  I can't believe I didn't manage to figure that out on my own.).  Other people's previous comments about the over-slickness of the plastic, and lack of heft (and, of course, the failure to engage overdrive), still make this guitar t3h sux0r.

Claymores are very nice.  I personally tend to use Bomb Squad until I unlock Bandolier, then I use it on all but one kit which gets an RPG.  If I take claymores or grenade perks I spend too much time throwing and not enough actually shooting.  Once I'm done with prestige modes it'll change, but since the challenges rely on shooting, I find that focusing on shooting more is the fastest way for me to level up.

The thing I hate most about resetting each time is the loss of the Bandolier.  I hate finding an awesome spot that nobody can take me down from and running out of ammo.  Granted it's funny sniping people with the pistol from a roof, but it's not quite the same slywink
