I got bored of Rock Band a week after I bought it, worst $170 I ever spent.

Just curious if you were playing with a group of people or playing by yourself.

I've played more with a group than I have solo but I honestly have a better time playing alone. There's no advantage to playing with others in this game, it's not like the computer AI is dumb and fucks up the notes so having human players doesn't provide an advantage. Not only that but during play you are so locked into what's happening on your own screen that you hardly notice what the other person is doing. The Rock Band experience, in my opinion, is highly overrated and I wish I hadn't fallen for the novelty of it's gimmick mainly because the price of admission was so steep.

I have a much better time playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance with 2-3 friends than I do Rock Band and that game was about $110 cheaper.

Well, one advantage to playing with other humans is that they can save you when you fail.  Playing solo, if you fail, you're just done, whereas in multiplayer, someone can bring you back.  The stacking multipliers also lead to player interaction as everyone can save up their overdrive so that everyone can activate it together in order to get a full 8x multiplier.  When I play MP, I'm constantly watching how everyone else is doing.  If someone's having a hard time, I'll save my overdrive so that I can save them when they fail, or sometimes deploy it when they get into the red to bump them back up faster.  If everyone's doing fine, then I hold it until we can deploy it together and go for score.

It's certainly possible that you're simply more interested in action games than rhythm/music games.  If you and your friends all feel that way, then no, I wouldn't think that Rock Band is the game for you, and that's totally fine.  However, I do believe that you're definitely in the minority on finding it no fun and totally overrated.

Not just that, but playing with others allows you to have a real party experience.  If you are playing with other people and not having more fun than playing with yourself, you either need to find new people to play with or you have problems having fun slywink

I know there are a few alternative controller configurations in the options menu, but personally I despised the previous GTA controls so I definitely would not want to go back.

How exactly has this situation been handled?  All I have seen is a statement from a mod that the half hearted apology was accepted.  While Dark El is not a Moderator, he has admin priveledges and clearly crossed the line.  Actions like this can kill a community very quickly.

Arkon,

I have not heard anything yet from Ron - although I know he has been notified. That's all the info i have at this point.

I do take a little offense that you call my apology was 'half-hearted', because it wasn't. I did make a mistake. I thought what i did was okay at the time but once I realized that it wasn't - I gave an honest apology and have both made promises to never do it again and offered to remove myself from the situation.  So there's really nothing more I can do, but to insinuate that i'm being insincere is a bit much.

Obviously if Ron chooses to discipline me that's fine.

what made me have second thoughts about the apology was the fact that in the first apology you also included that you thought Grund was annoying.  Insulting someone while apologizing kinda ruins it for me.

Good question from a friend who I watched this with last night.  Plot Spoiler.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Plot line question.  Why was the terrorist going through all the trouble to have Stark piece together the new missile when he was buying from Stark Industries in the first place?  I realize he didnít originally know it was Stark he was supposed to kill, but it just seems like a lot of trouble for what would probably be an inferior product (being pieced together in a cave and all).  Is there a good explanation, or did they just need a reason for Stark to make a suit?

Spoiler for Hiden:
They didn't know that Stark was going to build a suit, however, the only reason that I can think of as to why they would have him build it instead of purchasing it would be to save money not having to buy it...?   icon_confused

BTW, the cameo by Tom Morello was awesome.  For anyone that missed it, he was the first terrorist to go in the cave after Tony Stark donned the Mark I suit.  Great stuff...  biggrin

Spoiler for Hiden:
I'm not sure the weapons were part of the deal originally.  Maybe he was just paying them cash to kill Stark.  When they found out who it was they were to kill, they tried to get weapons out of it on both ends.

Not only does it make the minimap larger, but it also brings up a player/team list in the top left.  I think that list tracks who is talking, so you can mute using that.

It shows who's on and what color they are, but it never lit up to show who is talking when I've seen it.

My complaints were based on SP.  In MP there is usually so much action I don't notice the graphics until I'm standing alone.

By the way, are there any ways to take out a helicopter besides ramming it with your own helicopter?  They seem move too fast to take out with bullet weapons (with lock-on disabled, at least) and since the RPG has no homing ability and is a bit slower moving than other video game rockets it's fairly impossible to use it on a heli that's not stationary or moving very very slowly.

Since helicopters are pretty useless at actually killing anything it's not that big of a deal slywink

Basically the only way for a heli to kill someone is to sit still enough to get killed.  So if you can't kill it, it probably can't kill you either.  When it can kill you, you have an equal chance of killing it.  Works out for me.

They aren't very useful imo, but I have so much fun flying them that I don't care.

If I had any decent weapons on it people would bitch.

just remember when shooting down a helo coming towards you that the thing still has momentum even as a charred hulk......

I had a burnt helo about to crash into me and broke it into two with a second shot of the RPG and the tail passed on my left and the fuselage on the right by mere feet.  Was wild.

ATB: <mutes mic>
rattatatatatatata whole team goes down (ATB disconnects after 5 straight losses and vows never to try that mode again without a team of people he knows)

This is one of the main reasons I don't play it either.

In addition, on some maps NOT taking a point is just as important as taking one.  Overgrown for example, you want to avoid taking B because you'll start spawning really far from A AND C.  This one has been trouble even in a team of all GT'ers though because people can't shake the thought of 'if the point is unguarded I should take it' which isn't always true.  One person takes point B and the whole team starts spawning a 20-30 second walk from the action and we lose.

I was considering writing an in-depth review about my initial impressions with both SP and MP but have been dealing with yet another nightmare of a day at work.

Even though it is greatly out of character for me, due to time constraints my thoughts on the game so far are:

This game is absolutely amazing.  I love the depth of characters, the dialogue, the storyline, the gameplay, the attention to detail, Niko, I love it all.  Just the 3rd-person next-gen action/adventure game I've been waiting for.  I liked The Godfather, but I think GTA IV surpasses it in every respect.  Niko is a complex, deeply-troubled character in a situation he cannot control but has to endure in order to make a better life for himself.  He may be forced to do things he may not approve of, but it is all in order to move on from his troubled past.

I love this game.

OMG!  Shortest PETE_POST ever!

The cover mechanic almost works...  In MP it's useless, since everyone still sees you on radar and with a colored dot over your head.  By the time you figure out how to take cover and leave cover to try and shoot at someone, they run up to you and cut your guts out or run behind you and kill you.  That's why, even with the cover mechanic, the shootouts are just people standing in the middle of the street, circling and emptying their guns.

It should work where people who are using cover disappear from radar and lose their ID dots.  Then using cover would be worth the risk of being stationary and fighting to shoot around stuff.

You can turn off the radar dots or make them only show for some things.  There are tons of options in MP that people seem to not know about.

A couple of hours in, I'm not enjoying it very much:

1)  The graphics look like crap to me.  Yeah yeah, I know it's all 'streamlined' and such... but it doesn't deserve a '10'.

2)  I try to get into a car whenever possible because the on-foot controls makes me think I'm controlling a tank.

3)  Push O to punch - no punch.  Push O to punch - no punch.  Push O to punch - oh yeah I punched!

4)  The on-foot controls are so shitty that I was killed by one person beating me up.  I'd punch him, seemingly go through him or I wasn't glitching through him enough to punch him, and he beat me up to the point of killing me.

5)  I played the original GTA3 but never played Vice City or San Andreas... and it STILL seems like all of the stupid weird glitches and weird running into people animations and stuff are in the game.

6)  Does everyone always tell me to "fuck off" if I run into them?  Wow... what an angry city.

Sure I'll keep on playing, but so far it's nothing special.

I agree with almost all of your points.  I played it on a 17 in monitor at 1280x1024 and it looked pretty good though, but on my 42" at 1920x1080 it looks like ass most of the time due to horrid bloom combined with the fuzz filter and jaggies.

On foot controls are slowly growing on me, however melee combat still blows imo.

Regarding point 6 though, not sure where you live, but most places I've been in real life if you bump into someone they really do tell you to fuck off or say 'what the fuck?'.

MP was fun.  I'm not sold on Cops and Crooks.  Didn't seem very fun to me when I played, but then that might have been lack of food or general irritation about not being able to hit/kill anyone with guns while they dropped me in half a second in the other modes.

The helicopter races were really neat to run and spectate.  Overall, the GTA race styles seemed to pretty much devolve into one person getting into the lead at the beginning, getting the grenades, and killing a couple of people while cruising on to the win.  This is probably due in great part to everyone being new to the game.  Of course getting restarted with a scooter if you are blown up also aggravates the jproblem of trying to catch up to the leaders.

The rampaging bus in one race was quite amusing.

Haven't tried many of the modes yet, so I'm looking forward to doing so

I found that you can disable the non-gun weapons for those races which should help.  If you lose your vehicle when there aren't explosions, you might deserve to slywink

I've hardly played anything online on the 360, but it seems really odd that they don't flash the speaker's name when they talk.  Aside from helping us know who it is that left the race to go to Honkers, it'd help us see who's responsible for the voice feedback (probably me).

it sounded like evryone was echoing, so it'd be kind of hard to narrow it down.

All the voices echo, but they are echoing because someone is re-transmitting them through their mic.  That person's name would show up on the echo.  This is how we identify the echo'er in COD4 and then mute and bitch slap em slywink

I was only in for a little bit around 8:30-9:00, while free mode was still being played.  Quit out because I had no clue what the controls were (just started the game), and because free mode was kind of boring, I thought.  Yeah, random chaos is fun in spurts, but I get really bored really quick without a goal.  I suspect that now that I know how to aim (the SP lock-on works in MP, right?), I'll enjoy all the other modes a lot more than what I saw tonight.

Also, was getting wicked echo on my headset.

Part of the fun of free mode is deciding what it is you want to do.  Give yourself an objective, don't wait for someone else to give you one.  Be a leader, not a follower!

Finally a game lets you go anywhere and do whatever you want, even in mp, and people are complaining that it's boring. slywink

BTW, all you have to do is vote to play a different mode and if enough people vote for the same mode it switches.  The host can't just change modes or I would've.  Problem is that people simply don't bother listening when they are running around killing so 2 people out of 12 actually voted for a new game mode.

To suggest a new mode, bring up your phone, choose Next Game and choose what mode you'd like to play.  Once a majority has picked a mode it changes.  We kept things mixed up for the most part and did races, a bit of cops and crooks, some coop (when we had under 4 people) and some Turf War.  We did do a lot of Free Mode, but really it's because that's the mode that has something for everyone.

Sorry it got rough at the end of the night last night.  Not sure why it started dropping people, but that combined with that insane echo someone was transmitting made me run screaming from the 360.

With the red dot on the M60, it's hard to put 2-3 rounds on the exact same small target at max range.  Your first round will probably hit since you have the red dot for aim, but then it drifts up.

With the grip on the RPD, the first 3 rounds pretty much hit within the same tiny target even at max range on the largest maps.  Since the RPD does 40 damage per round, even without a head shot it's a kill at max range with 3 out of your available 100 rounds in the mag.
