They show that the Valk's are there and not there in the same scenes several times, I think it's obvious that they are figurative or at the least 'invisible'.

At this point I don't care if the movie sucks, that trailer kicked all kinds of ass and felt like the game brought to life.

One on one will always be apart of MMO's...........EVERYTHING can't be about the perfect group dynamic RvR..

You play a healer, I'll play a tank...2 months into the game lets do a dance...You game?

Sure, I like those odds!  Maybe just maybe a Melee DPS had a chance but not a tank.  They are tanks after all and can't dishout the damage to keep up with heals.  Even a dps spec tank doesn't have the utility skills that melee dps have (heal debuff, silence etc).  And I don't think they will change it in 2 months and probably not in 2 years.

Yeah, yeah.......you keep telling yourself that young un...........see ya soon.... icon_lol

My money is on Sky, having played all the classes at each tier I don't see how a tank is going to solo a healer... period.  I've taken out tanks +5 to me when I didn't even have most of my skills yet. It might take him a 10 minute fight, but it will be lopsided from the beginning.  ESPECIALLY if it's a melee healer

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed Dark Knight. So did I, really, and I believe it's a fine film in terms of entertainment. Does it belong where the hype originally placed it (No. 1 on IMDB)? No, and you all know it. I haven't checked the score, but I'm pretty sure it'll end up below top 10 - which is somewhat more realistic.

your original statements implied that anyone who thought the story in The Dark Knight had any depth was a 10 year old child.  Now you're simply saying it's not the best movie ever made.   Problem is, no one took issue with the idea that it wasn't the greatest film ever made.  You're just hoping to get SOMEONE to agree with you, it appears.

Try this statement next:  "It's got people in it!  And there's talking!".  You may get someone on board after that.   icon_lol

Some people simply can't be happy if they find themselves liking what 'everyone' likes and they subconsciously 'make' themselves like stuff that few people like so they feel different.  I had a friend who used to be like this until we spent a couple weeks pointing out all the little bits of proof.  He had a huge 'omfg' moment and realized that he didn't really like some of the things he thought he did. The mind is a powerful thing and sometimes people are so against comforming that they can't even enjoy things that are popular.

Am I wrong on this, or does it seem that WAR is the first MMO since WoW that the buzz on the game actually improved once the NDA was lifted?

Prior to the NDA being lifted, the general game buzz didn't seem to be very positive.  All I heard was regarding cut content, slow combat and other unpleasantries.  Now it seems that there's generally a positive, solid buzz surrounding the game.

I think it's because when a game is good, the only people that break the NDA are the ones that don't like it.  So you only see the negative until the drop.

Out of curiosity, which MMO allows you to level in a couple of weeks?

I know people that have levelled to the cap in WoW, DAOC and AoC each in under 2 weeks real time.  CoX doesn't take much longer than that either with powerlevelling.

I agree with what Dart said about sounds though, I wish there was a better indicator for when an ability triggers.  Short of ones that have flying fireballs or beams of light it's often hard for me to tell if I just used an ability if not for the cooldown icon animation.

Having said that, it's on the list of things they are looking into.

Actually during the preview this weekend the topic of the "dwarven" model was raised a number of times in various groups I was in. The question kept coming up why there seemed to be a serious lack of tanks for Order, especially in light of the hordes of Chosen and Black Orc's you seem to face in RvR. Quite a few folks expressed their distaste with the look of the dwarves and hence did not want to play an Ironbreaker. As to the Swordmaster a High Elf tank in what astetically look like robes just seemed pretty silly and alot of dissapointment was expressed over the removal of the Empire Knight.

Most of the people I know that have said they don't like the look of the dwarves (except Arclight obviously) don't like the look of dwarves in general.  It wasn't specific to the way WAR portrays them.  I think people just want a tank option on Order that isn't a tall skinny effeminate elf or a short stocky stout dwarf.

Looking to get into mate?
Sheesh, nothing like baiting me. shooo, go away.

Some people can't stand when someone has an opinion that doesn't jibe with theirs....I think its called insecurity.

Not baiting you at all, though you are getting awfully confrontational and defensive. (which shows insecurity, see two can play that game.)

I pointed out a reason why you might perceive things that way given your perceptions in other areas, and that your perceptions don't match the majority.  Neither of those is 'baiting'.  I'm not telling you your opinion is wrong, since it's an opinon and they can't be wrong.  I am telling you that it's not going to be that big of an issue because most people don't share that opinion.

Your comment about 5ft tall dwarves did remind me of the comedian who used to joke that his dad took him to the worse circus ever with things like 'World's tallest midget!' and 'The Bearded Man!'

According to Mythic, engineers are going to have a pretty big revamp in the next few days. The changes inlcude an instant "turret re-deploy" ability, which is - IMO - a much needed change. A lot of changes to the Tinkerer tree, including an Electromagnet ability that pulls all enemies in a certain radius to one spot. Land mines also sound cool. Especially combined with Electromagnet. smile

Mythic also said that they screwed pet pathing in the last push (although to be honest I thought that it always sucked smile) and that they are working on improving it.

That is good news. They need to up the cool factor on Dwarves somehow. At the risk of repeating myself, make Dwarves taller and less fat. More like a 5ft tall wrestler...
Armor would look better on them, and people wouldn't feel like they were playing an over weight midget from some small town circus.

Wouldn't be Warhammer if they changed the dwarves that much.

Separate Batman from it and it remains a rock solid detective thriller that is brilliantly told. So what lesson did the head of WB take from it?

"Make every DC character we have into a movie that's dark and brooding."

What was brilliant about the detective story?  It didn't have a clever twist like "The Usual Suspects", it didn't have a complex villain - really he wants to destroy that is it.  Heck if you put it out of comic book land you are just baffled by how the Joker pays for all this stuff.  How he manages to wire a whole hospital to blow up without anyone noticing!  It takes demolition teams weeks to properly setup charges to demolish a building with many workers running wire all over.  Somehow the Joker and crew managed to do all that with no one noticing?  Or loading drums of gas onto a ferry?  So it is a rock solid detective thriller because of how clever the criminal was.  He had unlimited staff, funds time, and skill!  Is it rocks solid because the hero did clever detective work?  Except for the bullet thing (which again makes no sense outside of comic book land) he didn't "detect" anything.

What people liked was the gritty violence.  The darkness.  They equate that to a solid detective story.  So I would say that WB learned well.

Hate to argue over a movie, but did you even watch the movie?  He'd been stealing millions from the mob leading up to (and in the intro of) the movie.

The two classes I've got most playtime with are the Witch Hunter and the Witch Elf - because that's the kind of class that typically appeals to me. They both get exactly the same kind of abilities at the same level.

And yet again you completely missed the point.  You just compared two classes on opposite sides.  None of us were claiming that classes on opposite sides are very different.

Ok since you won't give an example of two classes on the same side that belong to the same archetype yet play very differently, I'll do it.

Warrior Priest vs Arch Mage.  WP gains points as he melees, he can then use these points to cast healing spells.  He has good armor so can take a beating while meleeing in the front line.  AM is a more traditional healer.  He doesn't have good armor so he stays back.  He's got good offensive dots.  The more offensive spells he casts, the more powerful his heals become and vice versa.  You've got to be crazy to think that these two healers play alike.  BTW if you've played Vanguard, think Disciple and Blood Mage.  It's not exactly like that but I'm pretty sure Mythic has had scouts playing VG.

You pinpointed what was bothering me about his statement and I couldn't put my finger on it.  Comparing the Witch Hunter to the Witch Elf and then complaining they aren't different enough is like saying that an Alliance Mage isn't different enough from a Horde Mage in WoW.  That's just silly.
8514  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Warhammer Online headed to Open Beta on 9/7 on: August 21, 2008, 08:32:51 AM
Even if we assume all the classes are absolutely identical to their counterpart (which we've already shown is not the case...) there are 10 classes per side.  There are only 9 classes in WoW.  How can you possibly be saying that the 10 classes are not more varied in abilities than the 9 in WoW?  I'm really confused about this whole thing.  I do want to be clear that I'm not trying to push your buttons in any way, I'm genuinely curious as to how you think there is less variety in a game that has 20 unique classes compared to a game that has 9...  It seems completely bonkers to me personally.

Dart, it sounds like you might not have explored the masteries system either since you were mentioning one tree and each class has three mastery trees.  The renown bonuses are just that, bonuses that let you tweak your playstyle on top of the masteries.

I think playing to 15 should probably give you enough to see the difference.  Just boggles me that some people don't see it.  I guess people just see things differently somehow.  I don't see how you're doing any less in rvr in this game than you do in WoW or in DAOC.

I do think people (similar to what Arc just mentioned) are being overly harsh and are jaded from having put in so many hours in other games that they see anything that isn't revolutionarily (sp?) different as boring.

The game seems very deep to me, from abilities, to tactics, to morale abilities and usage to tactics used during combat.  The customization aspect of tactics combined with masteries and morale blow any of the other games out of the water for me with regards to customizing your character to your playstyle.
