I'm slowly starting to consider playing on the standard server just to play with all my friends.

Hopefully we can get enough pvp'rs to make it worthwhile.

other than where you spawn, what's really different about this and shadowbane?  both were ffa pvp.

A lot of things, they actually thought about PvP and consequences.  SB kept track of who killed you so you can get your revenge.  They actually put some thought into stealh, SB had classes that could hunt down stealthers.   There was a point to PK, i.e. you get loot.  Also outside of the city/mine fighting, there was also a point to fight for rune drops.  What are you fighting for in AoC?  PvP xp which currently has no effect.  Leveling up was super easy in SB so you couldn't really say that hardcore players have a huge advantage over you.  And with regards to that last point, I know you personally are pretty hardcore at these games and will likely shoot up to 80 very quickly on the FFA server (any vacation coming up? slywink).  For others who take a more casual approach, they are going to be left behind and have to deal with higher level pwning them as they try to catchup.  What you didn't experience in the FFA open beta event is level 80s coming in and pwning everyone at quest hubs.  Sure it might be fun to get revenge if you are of comparative level but that's only fun for those that have ground to 80.

Instance switching to hide from PKs seems like a bit of a hack.  In SB you had 360 degrees of movement but AoC is much more linear which means it's easy to control the entire zone by just watching some choke points.  This would be very hard to do in SB.  I suppose the ganker mentality people might actually consider these bottlenecks a good feature.

Anyway, I understand why you guys want to play in FFA, I'm just trying to explain why AoC implementation (or lack thereof) of FFA ruleset has no appeal to me personally.  The only positive aspect of FFA, i.e. the added element of danger in PvE is obviously not as important to me as it is to some of you guys.

I'll agree with a lot of these, but there are classes that can hunt down stealthers, just not with tracking.  Rangers get a flare that uncovers and ignites stealthers in an area.  Even without it, Kato was unstealthing people all day just by hearing their footsteps.  Instance switching is indeed pretty lame.

After putting that vote count together, he is definitely not Athena (as he came out and said).  But I think a cylon may vote that way.  And if I turn out to be wrong, well pr0ner makes a good Day 2 test.

That doesn't make him human, or correct. Just putting it out there. He may have wanted to be first off the boat so he's less likely to garner suspicion.

I really didn't want to be a part of killing starbuck and saving the cylons the work.  make them take him tonight, hope we get one today.

12 can seek out the other two at their whim, correct? so the 12 pairing with six/cavil are possible, but it's at 12's discretion (as I understand it).

As of right now I understand that balthar/six would not have paired cuz we'd have been notified, right? If that's the case then that leaves us with:

spec/spec

six/cavil
six/12
cavil/12

a cyclon who's got buy-in from a stupid person
or a cyclon who's latched onto a "decision maker" to let suspicion build on someone without outing themselves.

as I read it 12 can't talk to either of the other cylons until they try to kill him at night.  So the pairing would have to either assume they found 12 the first night instead of starbuck, or CR following remus' lead because CR (as 12) knows remus is a cylon even if remus doesn't know CR is.

I've been playing on the closed beta FFA server almost exclusively (almost level 30 now) but I just don't see the appeal.  Basically no thought is put into creating this mode, it's just a simple switch to turn PvP on in most areas.  If they design a game with FFA in mind then I am completely in favor of it (i.e. Shadowbane).  It's not the ganking that bothers me, I've had no problem dealing with it especially since stealth is the uber and I can even get away from level 80 characters.  Some say it adds to realism, is spawn camping that realistic?  I love PvP however so I'm hoping the standard server offers some good goal oriented PvP action.

other than where you spawn, what's really different about this and shadowbane?  both were ffa pvp.

spawn camping is a sad part of any ffa game and I wish they had some sort of timer of invuln.  They will probably add one eventually, but even as it is you can often stealth and get away.  All classes can stealth well enough to run away from a spawn.  you can also choose from multiple spawn points so you don't have to always spawn where it's camped.

Kato and I were never held back by spawn camping, never had a problem with doing a quest and had a great amount of extra fun watching over our shoulders while doing quests and while grinding.  Our time in the instance where nobody can sneak in and we didn't have to watch our backs (or couldn't sneak up on someone) was really boring, but good xp.

There is definitely the potential to be camped and ganked, and I would not recommend it for most people especially people who would have to solo.  (though I solo a lot, I'm a lot more masochistic than most slywink

I was just a bit surprised that people that loved SB didn't flock to it is all, the dynamics of xp'ing while keeping an eye out is very much the same and it's the first game in awhile that feels 'dangerous'.

I wish there was a stronger pvp death penalty though, as it is you lose nothing but time which means gankers don't risk much by trying.  Of course the other side of that coin means people that get ganked aren't really losing anything of value and when they die can just spawn somewhere else.

remus/cr  as cavil/12

Purge

(Geez guys if you had been on the ball we could have lynched Remus while he was away for the weekend...)

Throwaway comment meant to distract. Why are you voting for me? Nice work.

He hasn't responded yet. I then follow up commenting on Austin's accusation of CR saying it's plausible.

I get two baseless votes, it seems like partners trying to get people to buy in. I'm more suspicious of CR since you've at least provided an explanation, even if it didn't tie into me directly.

I'm concerned with all the pairings here though. I doubt we're going to see those specials come forward (like ravenvii's apparent specialist partner). It's too early in the game yet and people are going to keep their cards close to their chest.

The pairings greatly confuse me.  There should only be a couple possible pairings.  six/cavil  six/baltar specialist/specialist  and that's it until 12 is exposed in which case you have the 12/cavil 12/six options

We have way more pairing going on than is possible by class roles, especially if raven is assumed to be a specialist.

remus/cr
austin/proner

those are the two most prominent pairings and the only 'Good' pairing would be ravenvii and someone else.

I deduct that one of these two sets of two is six/cavil

Since Athena would not be able to pair up with someone through pm, and austin and proner seem very much on the same page even with little public talk, I'd have to reassert that I think proner is faking athena and proner/austin is six/cavil

Austin seems to back up proner everytime, but if proner was athena then they can't pm.

The only way I can see that proner can be so sure I'm what he wants gone AND austin can be sure is if they are the two cylons.

Remus, I do see what you're saying about raven now, and I agree that odds are high he's a specialist then.

I'll come right out and say it though, I'm just a citizen.  I have no data one way or the other, but obviously proner does.

Remus, why would you take Ravens word over mine? He was the one slipping into the voting with no reason, so you're basically defending that behaviour. Why does he have passive ability, because he sounded angry even though HIS schedule apparently conflicts with the game and WE need to hold him in higher regard for it?

Everything you said exonerates ravenvii; it in no way condemns me. Because I level an accusation at someone for odd behaviour makes me guilty of the accusation? It's like you're triggercutting by proxy.

Do you have pm conversations with Raven? is there something we're missing, Six?

I hate to agree that I don't know how to take Raven's absence.  It's a planned absence in a game that had people waiting on the sidelines.  Seems odd.  Not odd enough for him to be the first to be lynched, but odd enough that I'm keeping him on my short list.

Of course, if I get a few more votes my list might be mighty short indeed.

Knowing that I'm not a cylon, and seeing just how adamant proner is that I am and how willing he is to play that card, I have to think he's faking Athena.

I'd say it appears that proner and austin are the two cylons and are in cohoots with each other.

Thanks for the defense Remus, though I'm not sure what you saw either.  The more this day drags on the more clues I seem to be missing and apparently I'm the one posting them.  retard

The Purge vote just seems to be a nudge away from Hark, I dunno.  Almost like, they just want him to have one more night.

Hark - Six
Remus/CR - Cavil/12

Not sure by any stretch but it smells like Remus wants Hark alive for at least one more night and CR jumped to agreement so quickly.  Both with votes to distract from the Harkwagon without actually defending Hark.

Agreed, it is weird.  But Chaos is better than that.  Why would he be so obvious?  Not saying it is not how you described it.

And this happened once before: rickfc and Harkonis voting for ravenvii.  If rickfc really is Starbuck, why was he so trusting of Harkonis to switch so quickly?  And just how many sets of people do we have co-ordinating with each other???  Seems like we have too many people too trusting of others.

The tone of some of the posts is rather dismissive.

It's an interesting discussion, though, and makes me wonder:
Why haven't we seen a GTA feature film? I think having more movies that are based
on game properties could go a long way toward creating more "legitimacy" in the minds
of many people.

Because Uwe Boll's track record scared away most of the decent directors from game movies.

I'd also like to add that I work at a place where exactly zero of my 50+ co-workers are gamers, but I was perfectly fine with taking a week off to play WoW TCG at the pro level and tell them what I was doing and I'm taking time off when Warhammer comes out and they know that as well.

I don't run around yelling 'games are great, if you don't like them you're not!' but I'm not going to hide what I do in my spare time, or lie to my employers.  If I got passed over for a promotion I obviously should have, I shouldn't be working there and would look elsewhere.  I wouldn't dwell on whether they hate my gaming or not.

I'm not a conformist though and I'm pretty jaded about professional environments anyway since they are mostly about posturing and pointing fingers while covering your ass instead of actually communicating, dividing up work and getting shit down efficiently.

Sorry man but that's just a fancy way of saying you are insecure. If the situation were that you would actually be fired or demoted due to the fact that your boss or co-workers know you play video games then I fully understand. But if you're afraid of what they'll think of you on a personal level for playing video games then you are insecure about it. I think that, if anything, GTA4 will go a long way to show that video games aren't all about skinny men who look like women and wield huge swords or a fat plummers who saves princesses.

I think you'll find that what people think of you on a personal level has a very real effect on your job evaluation.  That may not be how it should be, but that's certainly how it is in a lot of industries.

I value my own self image enough that I'd rather make less and be myself than put up a front to make more.  If you can't be yourself at your workplace and have to hide one of your primary hobbies, that's pretty hard for me to grasp.  Personally that would drive me crazy.

I'd really like to play with you guys and miss playing with all of you, but after playing the OB in both pve and pvp modes, the pve was quite boring to me.

We've got a group of 3 so far for PVP-RP, please let me know if anyone is interested in either pvp server with an alt, or would rather do pvp than pve.

I'm surprised after the excitement that was the Wanderers in Shadowbane that more people didn't want to do the pvp thing.  When OB turned to FFA PvP the game played just like it.

I'll probably have an alt on the pve server just to see you guys, but my time will mostly be on the PvP-RP server.
