I know the shield is overpowered, because I was the one using it. I went 1v3 twice with it when we turned off all explosives and was taking the entire other team down in a hall way with all three of them in front of me. When used properly the shield makes you nigh invisible in close quarters. Regarding the XM-26, I love the gun myself and would rather not ban it, but some people do think it is too easy to use in close quarters. It IS easy, but it has a flaw if you happen to miss five times. Not many people miss five times. The GPS is a bit different though in my opinion. I'll unrestrict it now that we've played a bit, and we can see how the game plays with nothing banned. I do feel a bit cheap with it though. Combining the GPS with the XM-26 you can sneak around, know where everyone is so you get in close quarters, and with the XM-26 on full auto I've taken down a room full solo. Edit: oh, forgot about the deathmatch bit. I agree that Team Survival all the time is boring and have mentioned I'd like to play the other modes. We haven't been playing deathmatch though, that's with respawns. Retrieval is an absolute blast but requires much more from each team member or it just doesn't work very smoothly. Attack and defend is much more lenient for beginners, but the bomb glitch means we either don't play bomb maps (which we could definitely do) or the attacker is going to win.

I had a great time with all of you last night. We had some really good matches and it seemed pretty well balanced out. ATB, you did great for your first time out. You certainly picked it up a heckuva lot quicker than I did. I got one Hammer of Dawn kill in (after destroying half the level with it) so I was satisfied. I think I have some friends coming over for some local multiplay stuff so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to play tonight. But perhaps I can convince them to rotate in. Don't forget you can play splitscreen and still join us for multiplayer. Just should make sure both people that are on one tv are on same team.

Calvin, a fair amount of this game is the incentive to always stay on the move, yet use cover and the grenades are how they enforce this. If you are standing (as opposed to crouching) and are near any corners, you can often get out of the way of a grenade that is thrown towards you as long as you see or hear it coming. Of course sometimes you don't see or hear it, but that's just part of the game. You really shouldn't ever be somewhere long enough for a second grenade thrown to get to you but people rarely move away once the first one is thrown.
I've found a decent tactic is to bait the enemy into 'nadeing you and counting the blasts so that you know when they've burnt their 'nades and incindiaries. All you really have to do is pop around the corner, fire once and withdrawn and you're pretty much guaranteed that a grenade is coming your way. Back up, cover that door from another angle and be ready to move around yet another corner. People are still trying to play this a bit too much like a regular shooter. A game where grenades are ridiculously overpowered would be America's Army, I think they are fine in this one plus you don't really get that many of them.
Without grenades, it's too easy to camp out a spot and pick people off as they come. Also as I mentioned above, without grenades shields become godlike. You really just have to learn that just because you are behind a wall or door does not mean you are safe.

Let me explain........
Doesn't necessarily have to be a shooter, but it seems to fit the bill nicely because running and gunning is always fun. This might be why you are having trouble with R6. It's very much not a run and gun shooter. Neither is Gears really, but you can certainly play Casual like it is and do pretty well. Of the games I've played I'd suggest Saint's Row for single player or Lego Star Wars II, both were very fun and pretty easy SP.

I'm waiting to run Attack and Defend until they fix the bomb disarm bug. (which hopefully will be Fri) I LOVE retrieval, but it gets frustrating when one team uses teamwork and the other doesn't at all.
As far as round time, if everyone only has one life, 10 minutes is usually irrelevant since most of the time everyone on one team is dead before 3 minutes goes by. We don't play with many true campers so it's very seldom it gets down to under 3 minutes to go. I had it at 5 minutes for a long time and we were occasionally having time run out just when the last two people found each other and they were getting frustrated.
I played quite a bit tonight with explosives disabled and though it was fun for a bit, the shield is way too overpowered without a way to blast through it explosively. I think the game is designed around the explosives and you just need to learn that if your first shots don't hit the guy, there is a grenade on the way. Shoot, then either throw a grenade and relocate, or just relocate. Staying put after the initial exchange gets most people killed. This game has very different tactics than most shooters, even most tactical shooters imo.
If we can get a decent number of people on the server we can run the objective maps more often, but with anything less than 4v4, retrieval and attack/defend are pretty lame to me.
I think the only thing I'll restrict is GPS, it's really the only thing that can truly unbalance everything about the game. True you can use the radar jammer, but it's a bit too situational. I've often used the GPS to obliterate the entire other team solo. That's why I had turned it off initially.
The XM-26 is pretty cheap, but it's still got some flaws, and I'll probably unban it.
If we can find some other steady hosts to join we could mix it up with some new blood once in awhile and that could be pretty fun. I could also open up a few public slots on my server to let new blood in and still have the option to kick idiots.
I enjoy playing all the game modes and think we should mix them all up from time to time. Even a full 14 man FFA with respawns can be fun once in a while. It's amazing how different the gameplay of each mode feels.
Ah well, enough rambling, time to get to bed.
Raging Bull out...

I really can't wait to play this game, and I'd love to pick it up on my way home from work today, but with Christmas coming up my wife has asked me to place a hold on any game purchases for now because many will find their way under the Christmas tree (including the collector's edition of Rainbow Six Vegas ), so I won't be joining all of you online until after the Christmas holiday. Vegas has been my most anticipated title ever since its announcement, but my wife has asked me to hold off so that relatives are able to get me something I actually want for Christmas. You're all not making it very easy to be patient. Unlike what happened with GRAW, I definitely think I'll be playing R6 for a long time as long as you guys are willing to play.

I've stopped playing attack and defend until they fix the bomb glitch. To get the achievement though you can make a two player game and have the other player do nothing. This is part of why achievements are overrated They are either too easy, too hard, or require you to play with a certain way. (like ranked matches which means I can't play with friends which is why I bought the game in the first place heh) Retrieval mode is more fun than Attack and Defend in my opinion because both teams get to attack and defend. It has quite a flow back and forth and with large enough teams you can get some real strategies.

As long as there are consoles people will figure out a way to pirate the games for them. My biggest worry is multiplayer cheating. I'm pretty sure the reason Microsoft has not, and never will put a browser on the 360 is due to online gaming being compromised. In my opinion online play on the PS3 could be ruined by map hacks, aimbots, etc. I stopped playing online on the PC because of some of that stuff. I don't want it on consoles too. I may be in the minority, but I want my console locked up tighter than Tom Thumb's azz. I don't agree with Microsoft on alot of things. But I do on that issue.
I agree with this 100%. I have been so irritated that every game I play on the PC has cheats in it online. Even PS2 games have online cheats with gameshark type things. I hope MS keeps those off the 360 as well.

This advice, also given by Purge, has helped me tremendously. I still have to say outloud the way I want to go on occasion, but the difficulty is fading.
Oh, one other thing; unlike Rainbow Six 3, this game doesn't support voice commands. Rainbow Six Vegas supports voice commands though, you're playing the wrong game

I was playing until 1:30am on a work night so that should say something I can't guarantee that the graphics are better than the demo but it sure seemed they were to me. At any rate it definitely didn't impeed my fun level in the slightest. The maps rock, the rank system is very fun. Love to give more detailed impressions but I have work to do. (Gotta get Sgt today AND do real work)

I don't even really think Nintendo was top of the hardware heap with the SNES, not in machine capabilities. (Turbo Grafx was still better to me, Genesis was also powerful) SNES was the better selling system by far, but it wasn't far and above the best technically.
The Gamecube was behind the PS2 and Xbox in capability in my eyes as well. So to me the Wii just continues the slip of Nintendo from technical forefront to niche market. I do think the Wii is a good thing even if I won't get one for a long time. I don't think it being lower res will kill it though.

I have 2 of the DOA arcade sticks for the 360, they work very very well. You can also custom order sticks if you really want one. I use the sticks for all the retro games and for SFII

I'm moving into my first house in about a month (YEAH!) and need something to replace a 12 year old 27" TV. lol Don't think I can wait another year.
I like LCD myself. Since I have concerns on lag, especially with Guitar Hero, anyone have suggestions for a 46"-50" TV that would do PS2, 360 and HDTV with little lag and no burn in?
