1  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Albion Online on: March 22, 2017, 11:53:01 PM
The way the game is setup actually forces you to focus more than you might be realizing.  Not sure how far you have played, but Tier 3 gets slow and Tier 4 is downright grind central.  If you get bored or disappointed in what you are playing, sure you can switch.  Now you have to do that same grind to get Tier 3 or 4 in that equipment.  Crafting is also a crazy grind.

The grind might not really be a bad thing since the game wants an economy that works and you probably have to have the item destruction for crafting to work and you probably need crafting to be a huge grind or everyone would do it.  Not sure the progression to bigger better weapons needs the same grind though since you are still limited by funds to buy gear or crafting to make it.

Have you bought your island, mount and started farming yet?  more grinds.

Need to get back to this.  Every time I see Hadron on I try to join him but for whatever reason he's the only person I can never join.

I played for a few days last week.  grind seems pretty massive and so do travel times.
4  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [Netflix] Iron Fist on: March 18, 2017, 09:47:39 AM
I liked JJ better than the others, followed by DD2, DD1, and Luke.  I'm enjoying Iron Fist well enough.  It's probably in last place regardless despite really liking the comic character in theory.  I don't personally have a problem with the whole 'he's white' thing.  Plotting feels a bit slower than it probably should be, but it's working in my favor since I can play a slow paced game while I watch slywink

I'm a fan of character progression/change in shows, whether forward or backward and this one does that so that's a plus.

edit:  I did forget to mention the fighting.  I'm with Kato on that.  Not only does the choreography feel worse than the previous, but I'm not sold from either of them that they are as skilled as they should be.  It also bugs me that the Chinese don't use Chinese swords, but that's a more minor peeve.  I do like the Iron Fist effect though.  I know a few people were talking bad about it, but I like it's subtleness.

6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS4, XB1, and PC] Mass Effect Andromeda Will Release In Q1 2017 on: March 16, 2017, 11:22:10 PM
I had a fair amount of fun with mp once I started figuring out tactics and having a stronger gun.  However the framerate felt very low and inconsistent and there was fairly frequent hitching.  On top of that positional audio doesn't just not work, it works very well in opposition of how it should.  End result is that you constantly hear things where nothing is and hear nothing where something is.  Some reports are that if you turn off surround and force stereo, then put your headset on backwards it works 'ok'.  lovely.

i still see the same potential for fun I had in ME3:MP, but it might be a rocky start.

I barely touched single player ME3, but played hundreds of hours of multiplayer.  I'm sure this one will be the same for me.  ninja

If you notice stuff warping around, you or the target might be de-synced.  If it's a single player and everyone sees them warping then having them leave and reconnect can fix it.  If you see npc stuff warping, it's probably you and you can do the same.  Otherwise it might be your connection.

Some details are sketchy, but Handling seems to affect ADS speeds and turn speeds relative to sensitivity as well.  Might affect reload times as well as movement speed in general but will need more testing.  The ADS difference is pretty high though.

Here's a clip of a mission a few of us did tonight that happened to go incredibly well for me.  Most of our missions tonight did not go so well...

I'm loving the game, especially coop.  However when playing coop it's pretty important to be on the same page as your friends with regards to playstyles.  Having someone not care about stealth and someone trying to be stealthy does not work well slywink

The game rewards sneaking so much, especially in the harder areas that I think it's almost always better to try not to be seen.  Also keep in mind that once alerted, it takes more shots to kill someone.  I guess it reflects the abstract dodging/cover use not portrayed slywink

Also keep in mind, just because you have a shot doesn't mean you should take it.  Had a mission where we kept failing because an enemy finds the body of another.  If you have multiple enemies and don't have a shot on all of them, just be patient and wait.  Takes less time to wait than to redo a mission

There is a ton of possibility for good coop.

So not much hope for bad coop?  icon_evil

I appreciate the "enemy in this area" cloud. It's less specific than the "he's right here!" marker in SE4, but still tells me I need to be careful. It would be less of a crutch if the cloud were bigger, but I'll take it and would sorely miss it if it were gone. I want to know if I am done or not.

I think I'd prefer if the cloud was quite large, then the longer you stayed in the area the more it shrank as you pinpoint them based on your character's skill (sound, smell, whatever).  As it is right now I know almost 100% that I'm in the clear, or 100% there is another guy I haven't spotted yet in that 5x5 area.

Video of my getting lucky

Got lucky and wanted to share the results.  Still firmly believe revenge gear is cancer to the game, but we'll see if they bring it down a notch.  For what it's worth I'm not using much of it in favor of other stuff.
17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands (from Tom Clancy's Ubisoft) on: February 24, 2017, 03:47:40 PM
finished all the beta content, still really enjoying the game.  There is a ton of possibility for good coop.  I do feel the 'enemy in this area' orange cloud is a bit much though and makes the game a bit too easy.  Thankfully you can crank up the difficulty to remove it mostly.

haven't seen the most recent episode, but we've been enjoying the season mostly.  We watch on Hulu fwiw, episodes go live just a few hours after they air and are on there for several weeks.

I'm on XB1, but I find matches almost instantly and it does fill in during a match as people quit.  My problem is after a match when people leave it doesn't fill in the slots.  It's baffling to me, but the end result is that most of the time you have to back out after a match and queue up again (which then works quickly).  It's just weird to me that the join in progress works so flawlessly except at a natural stopping point.

24  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: For Honor [PC/XB1/PS4] - Ubisoft melee battlefield game on: February 14, 2017, 02:50:26 PM
I enjoy the 2v2 and the 1v1 a bit more probably than the 4v4 modes.  Two of them have powerups which I'm not a huge fan of and the other is a lot of fun, but can involve a fair amount of time playing the objective and not fighting.  I don't mind that, but I assume a lot of people who play a game like this want to swing their sword slywink

In Dominion, often times sitting by yourself on a point is the proper play and it's not terribly exciting.
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: For Honor [PC/XB1/PS4] - Ubisoft melee battlefield game on: February 14, 2017, 12:21:37 AM
It's a lot higher skill level than shooters.  Quick reactions and knowing your moveset and your opponent's moveset are key.  It's more like a fighting game in that regard.

As far as I could tell the AI are completely invisible to the enemy until you engage without suppressor, are seen or tell them to open fire.  They were almost invisible to me in the sense that I rarely noticed them when I wasn't deliberately trying to take advantage of them.  Also unlike other games with AI squadmates that follow you, these guys actually kill stuff.

edit: oh yeah, and flying felt really bad
