what disease is that??

No idea. He told us, but this was a couple of years ago and I don't remember. It was something I had never heard of. He talked like it was pretty minor.

Chronic nephritis?

When I work again, maybe I will miss the structure, but unless something bad happens, that won't be happening for awhile. Just need to get this degree crap out of the way. I haven't been this broke since I was a two striper. Have my disability medical Wednesday, hopefully that will provide a little boost in pay in a few months (not getting my hopes up, but if I get something, great).

Disability doesn't provide a boost in pay.  If you receive a rating, the VA will pay a portion of your retirement pay (tax-free).  The government keeps the portion the VA is now paying.  You still make the same amount.

Lee,

All I'm really doing is finishing up at my local college so I can finally get a degree. Also working out twice a day just to get back into shape. But other than that, got nothing going on.

As for what I miss in the military, I think I miss the structure the most. I always had somewhere to go, somebody to train, something to do. Now? Not so much. Sure I will miss my military friends and will keep in touch but its not the same being on the outside.
Hindsight is 20/20 but I really should have prepared myself for this day a lot more. Feel a bit lost and useless.
Now I understand all the stories of career salty dogs dying a few years into retirement.

Anyways I'll get over it. Good luck with your upcoming retirement Lee and I hope nothing but the best for your future.

I retired in Sept 2012 after 22 years in the Air Force.  I feel your pain.  I STILL miss the structure.  Adjusting to life in corporate America has been difficult to say the least.  Most of the people I've met in civilian jobs have been less than trustworthy and lacking in even basic leadership skills...very frustrating to start at the bottom again.

The check every month is nice, though. smile

Dear Hivemind,

I retired from the Air Force in Sept 2012 after 22+years of service.  I was extremely fortunate to transition from active duty directly into a well-paying civilian position with a private corrections company three days after retirement.  I lasted a full year before they decided I was no longer a good fit for the company.

I've been out of work for almost a month now, and have submitted countless resumes, cover letters, and applications to a myriad of healthcare administration-related opening in the Las Vegas area.  I have not received a single nibble.  Not one.

I am beginning to wonder if listing that last position on my resume is hindering my opportunities.  Are potential employers looking at my resume and seeing only one year with a company, and then figuring that perhaps I'm damaged goods?  Should I remove that one year from my resume and tell people I took a year off after my retirement?

I just don't feel that's overly ethical, but after my year in the private sector, I'm finding ethics is a very muddied proposition in some companies...part of the reason I was let go.  They didn't like me questioning the ethics of my supervisor.

Opinions??
8  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: So what would ya say.....ya do here? on: April 03, 2013, 11:53:06 PM
I'm a Health Services Administrator for a private corrections company.  The prison I work at is in western Oklahoma and houses California inmates.  I did, however, apply for a transfer to a detention center (run by the same company) in Pahrump, NV (60 miles west of Las Vegas) and was offered the position today.  I start there on May 5th.  smile

Nobody should ever regret turning down Oklahoma.

Oklahoma's not that bad.  Couple of hours from Dallas-Ft Worth, reasonably low cost of living, minimal Obama-drones, and I'm pulling in six figures.  What's not to like?
11  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Retirement for Veterans on: February 17, 2013, 08:59:21 PM
I retired from the Air Force on 1 Sept 12, and was exceptionally lucky to transition directly to a civilian job in a medium-security prison on 4 Sept 12.  The best part is that the civilian position pays more than what I was making as an E-7.  Combine that with my retirement check, and I'm clearing very low six-figures gross pay.  I haven't looked back since.

Makes me and my girlfriend happy campers. smile

take Imodium AD, best OTC drug for the runs.

Yeah.  Great idea.   Roll Eyes

Let's stop the body's ability to purge the virus and instead let it fester in the bowel.

I rarely prescribed Imodium to my active duty patients, and when I did, it was for prolonged diarrhea and when the patient couldn't keep up with rehydration.

Only certain games have multi-packs for sale, generally ones that feature co-op play like Borderlands or Renegade Ops.
