Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Skinny on Rich (and Gonegold somewhat) SEE 1ST POST EDIT

For what it's worth, before GG went down for good (maybe a year ago or so?), Rich posted a short letter on the site apologizing for the way that things went down. I don't remember the gist of it all, but I think it was all covered on OO, if someone wants to search the EBG archives over there. I wrote him a quick e-mail thinking him for all his work, and he replied very graciously and said he wanted to get back into playing computer games again. It kind of seemed like he'd had some really rough times but was finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Wherever he is and whatever he's doing, I hope he's happy and is gaming again.

My 2.5 year old daughter likes sitting on my lap and helping me pop balloons with Winnie the Pooh. I've got a couple toddler-oriented games for her, and she likes watching the action on the screen. I don't think she really understands that she can make things happen by playing with the mouse or keyboard yet, but I'll be teaching her that stuff. First things first, though. Get her potty trained, and then teach her to use a mouse. I'm sure she'll be beating me at Tiger Woods Golf by the time she's five.

Looking forward to the Chiefs/Bears game next week. After getting beaten badly by San Diego, the Bears need a week off.
Bonus points if anyone on the Chiefs manages to injure Rex Grossman or Cedric Benson. Not like, permanently or anything, but enough to knock them out for a few games and give someone else a shot.
Who is going to run the ball behind Benson? Your brilliant team traded the best running back it has had in 20 years to the Jets. Lawl? That would be Adrian Peterson, who also fumbled against San Diego but at least isn't a douchebag. So he's got that going for him over Benson. After Peterson, it's anyone's guess. I think Urlacher might be somewhere up there on the running back depth chart. The Thomas Jones trade was not well received in Chicago, as it was primarily done because the GM paid Benson far too much money to sit on the bench for another year, not because Benson had done anything to deserve being the starting running back.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [OOTP Baseball] 4OTP looking for owners
|
on: August 26, 2007, 04:33:32 AM
|
Hey guys, one of the OOTP 2007 online baseball leagues I'm in, the 4OTP, is a few owners down, and we're looking for some replacements. We've got at least 4 teams open, and possibly more if we don't hear back from a few people. It's a historical league that started in the 2006 season and just finished off its 3rd season. The open teams are the Marlins, Tigers, Dodgers and Giants. If you're interested, check out the home page and look around a little. The online web reports can let you check out the available teams, as well. If you're interested, send an e-mail to [email protected] along with the team you want. If it's still available, we'll get you set up quickly. Let me know if you've got any questions. GA

Not sure which is more badass, The Pirates of Royal Deathstorm or World of the Team Cats. Then again, The Fun Ninja has a lot going for it. You'll die smiling! As an aside, the The Swedish Fish Spire guild offers the best candy. Mmmm, Swedish fish.

68% Optimus Prime, which is odd because I was skewing heavily Decepticon for the entire quiz. Apparently that last question about killing spiders immediately redeemed me.

Michael Vick may take a plea deal.Of course, seeing as how one co-defendent took a plea deal and the other two may do the same, he really doesn't have a leg to stand on now. I think he was looking at a maximum 6-year sentence if convicted on all counts, so I wonder what the deal will be. Surely he'll have do serve some time as a result.

My college roommate had one of these. He brought it with him from college, and it served as the coffee table in our apartment for two years. It also saw some hellacious battles between his GI Joes and my Battletech toys.

Congratulations to Barry Bonds. However he did it, he did it, and it can't be taken away now.
I am rooting for Alex Rodriguez to break Bonds' record, whatever it ends up being. A-Rod may be a jackass too, but he's considerably less loathsome than Bonds is.

Someone before said not to do an exit interview because of 'risks' involved. Ive done then as an employee leaving a company, and now as a manager when an employee voluntarily quits. I guess I am curious what the risks to an employee doing one would be.
I would guess damaging relations with your former employer should you actually go and tell the truth about why you're quitting, but I fail to see why one would burn bridges like that. When I had my exit interview, I didn't mention stifling boredom and the vast salary/respect gap between sales and the rest of the employees. I did point out to HR how criminally understaffed my department was, and that there were a lot of good editors who were doing way more than their fair share of work. I don't know if it helped, but I believe they've added on an extra position since I left.

Great. Being near Atlanta, I can't avoid Falcons games if I try. Who's their starting quarterback now? Joey F'ing Harrington, that's who. That's who I'm going to be watching for a dozen or more games this season? Damn you, Vick.
I really wish I could watch more Bears games. Rex Grossman may not be that much better than Harrington, but his flashes of brilliance are so much fun to watch. Joey's flashes of competence aren't nearly as interesting.

That steroid drug addict needs to get beaned with a ball and taken out of the game for good before he breaks the record.
As big as his head is nowadays, you'd think it'd be a hard target to miss too. Oh well. It'll just make Alex Rodriguez's record-setting home run that much better.

Atlanta's summers are mostly in the 90s to 100s with high humidity and daily afternoon rain showers. Pretty brutal, but the winter (my first Atlanta winter after 30+ Chicago ones) was mostly in the 40s, with nary a flake of snow to be found. That more than made up for the burning death of summer.

ConPan > Sounds & Audio Devices > Sounds tab > scheme?
I fiddled with a few things, and that seems to have helped. Some stull is silent, but I can at least get audio with Web pages, which is a big plus. Thanks, javahead!

This is a bit of an odd problem. My computer no longer makes any sound in select applications. If I'm running a program (iTunes, a game, Windows media player), it plays sound. But the little startup and shutdown tunes are gone, there's no sound when I'm using an IM program (though I get sound when using my web cam), and no web sites make any sound (so YouTube videos are all silent movies, and myspace songs don't play). Anyone know why this would be happening, and are there some settings I could mess with that would fix this?

According to an article I read in the AJC, Vick bought the house that was used as a staging area for the dog fights just a couple months after the Falcons drafted him. I'll never understand why he'd get involved with something illegal when he had his entire football future ahead of him, but if he's convicted, I hope he spends every minute in jail thinking about how he pissed away his future on something so stupid.
Oh, and during the time he was on injured reserve with a broken leg in 2003, he still found time to go to South Carolina to enter a dog in a fight. That's a unique form of rehab, Mike.

I get up early to run or work out. While it has necessitated earlier bedtimes, I really don't miss the extra hour of video gaming or messing around online, and I find I actually have more energy the rest of the day when I start my morning off with a workout.
