Would you guys upgrade to this from a 9800PRO?  I'm thinking it might be worth it, especially since it won't cost much out of my pocket if I sell the 9800PRO on Ebay.

I give up.  You win.   My four points were strictly my opinion and nothing more.

LE, I love how you tell people that they are "wrong", as if you were the defining voice in computer gaming.

Those 4 points illustrated why "I" didn't like it.  Sorry, but someone's opinion can't be wrong.

It's because those who don't like it feel compelled to overreact in their dislike for it to be cool and edgy.  In addition, they fail to provide objective complaints about the game, or if they do, the complaints are irrelevant or flat out wrong.

Please do not group everyone that doesn't like HL2 into this characterization.  Lord knows I don't need to be "cool or edgy".

I didn't like it because:

1.  The game WAS on rails.  No open-endedness at all.
2.  The Combine AI WAS boring, uninspired, and predictable.  A true step down from HL1's Marines.
3.  The story just did not drive me forward like HL1, NOLF1, or even Tron 2.0.
4.  Steam sucked....not for everyone, but for a LOT of people that bought the game at retail and couldn't play the damn thing when they got home.

Do I think the game had great graphics, characters, and physics?  Hell yeah.  But they alone do not make a killer experience.

Honestly, this is just my opinion, but if you play games and don’t like Half Life 2, you should probably pick a new hobby.

This is probably one of the most absurd, elitist statements I've ever read, even if it is your opinion.  So the entire "hobby" of computer gaming is based on HL2?  A person's liking of HL2 is now the benchmark of keeping computer gaming as a hobby?  ALL the other games out there are now damned to hell and don't "count" towards an individual considering themselves a gaming hobbyist?  Ridiculous.
969  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / My 2004 pc gaming year in review on: December 10, 2004, 07:59:39 PM
I also thought HL2 was a disappointment.  It's high on his list of disappointments because the expectations were higher for it than say......Catwoman.  It doesn't mean those listed below were actually better.

If you haven't had the game for that long, perhaps you could try returning it to the store? Let me know you can't even play the game because it requires an internet connection which you don't have. Tell them you were mislead by the box.

Which would be a lie, as it clearly states on the box "Internet Connection Required".  Not "recommended", but "required".

I totally agree with you, but honestly....who the hell reads that anyway?

987  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [NBA] Pacers/Pistons Brawl on: November 22, 2004, 01:46:50 PM
SOMEbody in a suit clocked that guy on the ground.  Not sure if it was Reggie Mille though.  I don't think it was.
988  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [NBA] Pacers/Pistons Brawl on: November 21, 2004, 11:57:33 PM
Who was the Pacer in the suit that pummeled the Piston fan on the floor?  He hit him after Artest and before O'Neal came sliding in.  No suspension for him?
989  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [NBA] Pacers/Pistons Brawl on: November 21, 2004, 04:07:56 PM
That S. Carolina/Clemson fight was sweet.  Did you notice the cops only going after South Carolina players (the away team)?
990  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [NBA] Pacers/Pistons Brawl on: November 21, 2004, 05:44:48 AM
Just saw the video of the white hat dude.  Yep, he did it.  What an asshole.  He's toast for sure.

The black shirt guy is going to be rich $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
991  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [NBA] Pacers/Pistons Brawl on: November 21, 2004, 04:45:06 AM
First off...that dude in the black shirt that got pounded by Artest.....was he even the guy that threw the initial cup???  Artest wasn't even looking his way when the cup hit.  How in the world did he single him out when he wasn't looking in that direction? I'm thinking he had the wrong person.

Second, Artest and the Pacers threw ALL of the initial punches.  Especially when Artest was back on the floor and he pounded that guy in the Pistons jersey.

Third....where is the suspension for Indiana's Assistant Coach in the tan suit that was hitting the two guys in Pistons jerseys while they were on the floor (after getting pounded by Artest)?  Nice pussy action there pal, hitting a guy on the floor.  Same goes for you too O'Neal cause you slamdunked the same guy (on the floor) seconds after your Assistant Coach did.

Lastly for all you defending the Pacers.......using your logic.... the next time a NBA player dropkicks a basketball into the crowd, the crowd can pummel said player instantly on the court in the name of "defending themselves".  Bullshit.

Finally a decision that makes sense!!!  Wes was incompetent and needed some Viagra for his backbone.  Maria's middle name is Bitch, enough said.  I would have had a hard time restraining my backhand from her face if she talked to me like she did to Wes.

Good to see the Carolyn/Bill lapdog show is still in progress.

Of course when YOU walk in, 2 zombies are waiting for you.
996  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Half-Life 2 Impressions (Possible Spoilers) on: November 18, 2004, 12:59:24 AM
LOL @ Eco.......classic!

Doom3 has coagulated into the cheese between my testes and thigh.  And to think I paid the same price as HL2 for it.

I'm still not terribly overwhelmed with HL2.......yes I do like it and what it brings to the table.  But...I need a driving story (ala NOLF1 and even HL1).   Something that makes me play to the next level because I want to see the plot progress.  I'm just not feeling it yet in HL2.  (I'm getting my ass pummeled in the airboat right now.)

And I think the openended gameplay of FarCry was phenomenal and would have made HL2 even better than it is now.  HL2 is a hardcore rail rider.

999  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [hl2]New complaint - why do I need the cd in the drive?! on: November 17, 2004, 02:57:34 AM
Did anyone try just pre-loading the files from Steam and then entering your retail CD key?  In other words, do not install off of the CD's.

That's really fucked if it wants to do a CD check after the Steam authentication.
1000  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / HL2 Offline Mode -* First Post Edit *- on: November 17, 2004, 02:54:35 AM
Someone give Big Jake a cigar.   Cool

I unlocked around 8:30am and it went fine.  Steam hardly downloaded anything for the unlock and it seems like most of the time was spent decrypting/decompressing files.

I've been able to play at all times during the day.
