AC 3 Almost done with Captain Kids Treasure. Best part of the game so far. Still can't figure out the whole crafting and recipe thing to set up convoys. Even trying to read up on line. Annoyingly complex. At least I'm not forced to do it.
82  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Weekend Playlist -- 8/16/13 on: August 16, 2013, 03:59:25 PM
AC 3. Just started a mission with Paul Revere.
83  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What is the DLC sweet-spot price point for you? on: August 15, 2013, 08:55:04 PM
I know I'm way in the minority on this, but I've thought games have been way too expensive for what they are worth for a long time, when they climbed above $50 I think. Talking PC games here as I don't own or play consoles. Steam has been a godsend and I won't buy a game for more than $10. Since I also have no use for multiplayer, they all get to $10 eventually, so I just wait them out. As far as DLC goes, never had any use for different clothes or maps. Added content is another matter. Was tempted a bit for the Bioshock games but by the time they come out I have spent many hrs with the game and am on to something else. Dishonored has me somewhat intrigued. I have the game but haven't played it yet. If I really enjoy it as I expect to, I'll probably get the DLC on a Steam sale.

AC 3. Really starting the open part of the game now. Enjoying it quite a bit. Captain Kidd's treasure quest line is a blast.
85  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Have you ever beaten....an Ultima game? on: August 07, 2013, 03:41:26 PM
Sadly no. When these games were new I was gaming on a mac, enjoying MM. Last year I tried to play VII and IX from GOG. Could get past the graphics on VII, couldn't even tell what any of the object were. IX was a pretty bad game but I was slogging through. Then it broke and corrupted my save. Had to move on.

I'm playing AC3 now and have to say I'm enjoying it. The first set of naval battles was a blast. Can't wait for more of that and upgrading my ship. Also was a hoot taking part in the Boston Tea party. I still agree it was an odd setting choice for a climbing game and I like the middle east and Rome better. I also have a few glitches. But it still has a lot of AC magic for me, but then I'm a pretty forgiving gamer. As long as I'm having some kind of fun, that's fine.

And I thought it was Over Flanders Field.

Beat the first 4 and Conviction is sitting in my backlog pile.

Command and Conquer 1. Only one I played.
90  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Weekend Playlist -- 8/02/13 on: August 05, 2013, 03:33:59 PM
So I finally got to the point in AC3 where the game opens up. Had my first naval battle, invaded my first fort. So the game has it's hooks in me now, I'm liking it much better. Still nothing as cool as the tomb runs, which I really loved, but at least I'm having a good time.
91  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Weekend Playlist -- 8/02/13 on: August 02, 2013, 05:28:59 PM
I think there is quite a difference between climbing the old north church and the Roman colloseum!
92  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Weekend Playlist -- 8/02/13 on: August 02, 2013, 03:43:47 PM
AC3 As an AC fanboy, I have to admit this one isn't grabbing me quite like the others.  It's taking it's sweet time getting to the open world part, and climbing around Boston doesn't seem as natural as in the Middle East and Rome. But still, I'm just getting into it.

Risen 2. About 80% of the way through.

Risen 2. Enjoying it. Typical PB game, and while that's not for everyone, I love them!
95  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (07/15) on: July 15, 2013, 08:13:46 PM
Dishonored and Max Payne 3. Been a good sale so far. Got X-com last week. Don't think Bioshock Infinite is going to make my $10 limit. That's okay, it will at Christmas. Same for Far Cry 3.
96  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (07/08) on: July 12, 2013, 06:13:19 PM
My steam rule is $10 or less. Nothing for me on day 1, but got X-com today! Don't think Bioshock Infinite is gonna get there this go around, so I'll wait till Christmas.
97  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Weekend Playlist -- 7/12/13 on: July 12, 2013, 06:11:15 PM
Torchlight 2. Simple, but quite fun at what it does.

Shouldn't the steam sale start Thursday? Seems comparable to last year.

Don't get my hopes up, sir!

Torchlight 2 and some Telltale Walking dead. Talk about completely different.

I just started this game. Wow. Has my attention early. Really well done so far. All I want to do is protect the little girl.

If the Steam sale starts Thursday I will probably buy something this week.

Spec Ops-The Line. First FPS I've played in a long time and while well done, it reminds me that I'm pretty bored with FPS's. Don't think I'll play another anytime soon.

actually you still haven't played an FPS in a long time, since that one is a third person shooter slywink Tongue

I suppose. But I spend so much time in cover just staring at the crosshairs it still feels like a FPS to me.

I do wonder when developers will realize that the results are in, and people do suck online. Without any type of constraint, chances are high that this will turn onto a major gankfest.

Agreed big time. I got excited when I read Stalker because I love everything Stalker, but there are just too many griefers on line.

My rig is back up and purring!!  So I'm slogging it out in Venetica. Due to my hard drive crash I lost my saves. So I'm grinding away to get back to where I was. Just have one area left to get there.
107  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/360/PS3] Dark Souls on: June 17, 2013, 12:40:47 PM
I hope you fare better than I did Zinfan. I got about half way through and had to quit due to difficulty. They just keep making it harder and harder that at some point it stopped being fun for me. I know what they want me to be able to do, but I'm not good enough to do it.
108  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Weekend Playlist -- 6/14/13 on: June 14, 2013, 05:41:15 PM
Sob!!! My rig is down. Bad hard drive. No games for me this weekend. New drive and a reinstall. The opposite of fun.

Might be 2016 for me then. I don't buy a game till it gets to $10 on PC. It's fine. I still have plenty of fun stuff to play.

There's ways to improve it without resorting to arbitrarily locked animation systems. There's plenty of ways now to combine need for execution, without the clunky locked systems that those games employ.

You say clunky and I say brilliant.  Guess I am alone on wishing for a game that mixed Skyrim and Dark Souls.

You obviously got a good handle down on Dark Souls combat that gave you a fair amount of success. The game would be a blast if I could do that. There are other things they could do to help Skyrim and the other Elder scroll games. Get rid of the damn auto leveling. Get rid of the need to be able to go anywhere on the map from day one and have success. Have some very, very tough enemies that could only be defeated by high level characters having exotic equipment they either discovered through arduous quests or arcane difficult crafting. Bethesda, as has been said, are the only people who could make fighting a dragon routine and boring. But this would be a radical departure for the series and will never come close to happening. Also, they sell millions and millions of these games and print money so they have every right to tell me to shut up. Sounds like I hate the series but I don't. I play them through and complete all but the most obscure stuff. But each iteration has been a little less exciting than the last, and I do agree that combat could be a lot more exciting.

I'm recently replaying Skyrim (quit earlier due to bugs) and the world design is simply the best I have ever seen in any video game.  The combat system is lacking though (Bethesda just doesn't get it even after so many Elder Scrolls games).

Wouldn't it be awesome if Skyrim had Dark Souls combat? Or Dragon's Dogma combat, for that matter.

Not for us non twitch players it wouldn't. While I enjoyed most things about Dark souls I had to give up because I never got good enough at the combat.
115  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Official Review] Alan Wake on: May 31, 2013, 05:46:43 PM
Can't say about the motion sickness but I played the game last year and enjoyed it. It does use check points and a couple of areas can be frustrating but besides that I had a great time.
As to the price drop, it's mostly just old. Most games get cheap eventually.
116  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Playlist - 05/31/13 on: May 31, 2013, 04:33:22 PM
Had to give up on Dark Souls. To much twitch. I got the hang of it against run of the mill types, but they just keep upping the ante and it became not fun. So I went back to Game of Thrones. And back to fun, which is nice.

Dark Souls. Trying to find a way to beat the Black knights and the Gargoyle

Hey Glycerine, thanks for the reply. I guess Canuck just wanted to snark at me. While knowing my way around the computer a bit, I have to admit the DSfix directions had me a bit intimidated, so I'm trying to get along without it. Funny, what I thought was a bit of stuttering was the game trying to show me I was very slow as I was running around with 100 max of my weight-duh. Started a new character-bandit, and things are pretty smooth. I have never, ever touched a controller in my life, so starting now would be very awkward. I seem to be fareing okay with MK although I had to look up a lot of arcane controls. Thanks for the help.

120  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dark Souls Coming to the PC! on: May 20, 2013, 06:45:39 PM
Well be careful what you lust for, I guess. Waited for this to get under $10. People weren't kidding when they said this is hard. Man do I suck. And I am repeating a lot, just without the reloads. But I'm also hooked on the stupid thing and really can't stop playing. I don't think I have ever played a game this relentless.
The 30 fps cap is also annoying. Yes I have read up on the fix but it sounds kind of complicated and not without it's own problems. So I set mouse sensitivity to zero and got used to the rest of it. Don't know if I can hang with the whole thing, but I probably will. I let out cheers when I get through some of the nasty parts.
