Thanks for checking in Eightball. Did not get a hammer in that battle. Will look once more for the woodcutter but I'm pretty good at crisscrossing. I so wish there was an english language walkthrough for this. Especially since it locks out an area when you are done with it. Still having fun. And allthough the story is nothing groundbreaking, I'm enjoying it. I'm sure Lizard boy is going to get it eventually.

Please help with this simple quest
Spoiler for Hiden:
Where is the missing woodcutter in the blood mountains? I've cleared the whole area.

Found a new very tough battle
Spoiler for Hiden:
In the blood mountains. Of all things trying to pick up the stupid frog for the witch. Not the guy you give a bracelet to that turns him into a frog, the other one sitting on a stump by the pond. When you come back there are 6 warriors and I kept getting sliced and diced. I had to try and lure them into the other toads as they would leave me and start attacking them but it still took me like 20 tries. Brutal.

Unrelated-double shot arrows is really nice!

Spoiler for Hiden:
Lol, you can talk your way out of that one...and actually, I found out later (because I did exactly what you did; i.e., I chopped them to pieces)...if you resolve it bloodlessly, you get a better reward!

Spoiler for Hiden:
HOW! The seargent made one comment and then I went straight into the pause before battle. Did I fail some sort of check? It took me forever to win that battle.

There was a point in the first section that I was getting zero for some rats I killed. But I never got a large amount for things like Harpys that were really hard for me to kill at level 4. Maybe it only adjusts downward? Still love the game and the artwork. The gloomy forrest really was dark and shadowy. I look forward to each new section of the map that I'm sent to. Still in the early part of the game too.

I have a question before I buy this game. Do any enemies respawn? This is always a game-killer for me. As soon as Thugs started respawning in NWN2, I lost interest. The same issue ruined Stalker for me, Sacred 2, and probably a few more games as well. There have been a few games that had well placed and rare respawns that were good, but most games seem to overdo it. Its like they put those in there to slow you down so they can advertise 60 hours of gameplay as if respawns were content.

I agree with you. Really hate repawns allthough I got through Far Cry 2 gritting my teeth because I liked the rest of the game so well. With regaurds to Drakensang, there is some mild respawning in some areas, no repawning in some areas and I have not noticed any respawning in quest "dungeon like areas" like the brewery rat quest. Plus the monsters that respawn appear on your map and are easily avoidable if so desired.

Yeah all the experience you get for killing things/completeing quests seems fixed. I must admit I do prefer when you get more experience when you tackle enimies situations above your level. It's no real deal breaker though.

I'm finding the marsh fairly tough as well. Not so much the skeletons, but those harpies were tough. Is it supposed to take forever to shoot a longbow or am I doing something wrong?

Longbows take longer to use, but do quite a bit more damage than the short bows.

You'll see when you're examining bow weapons, it has damage, and then something called CR.  The higher the CR, the slower it is to fire the bow.

Most of the short/elven bows have low damage, but a CR of zero.  The longbows have a CR of 2, which means they effectively shoot every other round (I think).

Thanks. I saw that and kinda figured that's what it meant, but it still seemed to take a really long time so I wasn't sure. I'm into the area after the marsh. Still loving the game.

In addition, there's a spell that removes poison that you may have access to at that point.  You can always head back to Ferdok and stack up on Golman tea btw.

I found a vendor with the Cure Poison spell in the Ducal keep section of Ferdok that opens up after you rescue the Archivist from those attackers in the pansy purple tights.  I think it was the Alchemist who gives you a quest to find out how to make a potion and say she will join you when you're finished (unfortunately reading the book she gave me crashes my game when I try and turn the page), or else it was a Devotee.

I'm finding my Charlatan party member goes down pretty quickly as well.  I'm under Ferdok right now, trying to find the soure of the rat problem, and whenever I get ambushed she goes down very quickly, usually within the first few seconds.  luckily I can now summon a wolf so I at least have an extra body when being swarmed by 10 or so of the tougher gray wolf rats.  I do like how they have one dwarven NPC who acts like a warp between the entrance to the brewery basement and the current level of the dungeon I'm in.
Spoiler

I have heard the end of this quest is very very tough. People have recommended holding off until you are level 8 or so. I have not finished it so I cannot say for sure.

Please do. I have been rather curious about this one and the few reviews out there haven't really helped me that much. I always do better on games I'm on the fence about just hearing from regular gamers in forums.

Yeah I don't have the spell or a character that has learned the recipe icon_cry I know I can head back but on my quick save I went out on the marsh and got trapped by some harpies that I cannot beat in my weakened state. That's part of the fun, learning this stuff in the game. Hate going back a save though.
693  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Drakensang english demo (win a copy!) on: March 06, 2009, 09:59:54 PM
posion is not your friend! What I usualy do in an area where enemy's can give you a damage that stays with you is not heal after each infliction because you have limited cures and the next group could be just around the corner. But posion can add up and it really cuts down your strength. I'm kinda stuck in the Marsh now and may have to go back to a bit earlier save.

Wow. I have to admit, I am one of those "what's so bad about DRM" kinda guys since I have never had an issue. But I sure would be quite pissed if this happened to me. It will be interesting to see what the DM does.

Did anyone else have trouble figuring out how to travel to Moonbridge Marsh or am I the only idiot? I kept thinking the exit had to be out of the town some where and had completely forgotten that you can scroll the world map. Only some vague random desperate clicking along the bottom of the world map got me going.

Still wprking my way through the opening area. Overall my impressions are fairly positive. Graphics are good. Nice big areas to explore. However I could do without the big question marks popping up on the map showing me where to go to complete the quest. Can't you just give me enough info to point me in the right direction so that I feel a bit of accomplishment when I find it? Battle is kind of on the slow side, but at least it gives you time to fire off your spells. It is scratching my rpg itch.

Interesting. The only 2 games on that list that I would have is Myst and Civ. Starcraft I never got to play as I was still all Mac then. Trade wars I have never even heard of and Doom is just so over rated imho. But that's what's so cool about gaming. So many different kinds out there.

Wow, it stood out to me like a big neon light when I went to the very first mission. It won't kill the game for me by any means, but it's really kinda lame.
701  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Far Cry 2 Impressions thread (now with FIRE!!!) [56K beware] on: January 23, 2009, 06:00:13 PM
I just got this and did the first two missions to get my first buddy. So I'm still feeling my way around quite a bit. One disapointment so far. Are they really going to put the way to your objective in freaking red on the signpost? I know about hand holding but the map is pretty easy to understand and follow. Seeing that big sign "Lumber Mill" in red really jerked me out of the game.
702  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Alan Wake....update 10/22/08 on: October 22, 2008, 09:36:11 PM
I've been interested in it since it was first announced. I get a fun creepy scary vibe from it where you can't be sure what is reality and what isn't. That said, it would be nice if Remedy moved faster than a glacier.
703  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Farcry 2 thread on: October 18, 2008, 06:19:51 PM
I'm trying to decide between FC2 and F3. I had pretty much decided on F3 first but I keep hearing such great things about FC2. The lack of rpg elements is not a deal breaker. I just think F3 will be longer so FC2 will be cheaper by the time I am done with F3, but now all I can think of is how cool FC2 looks and it's here a week earlier.
704  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Far Cry 2 DRM on: October 15, 2008, 04:57:57 PM

705  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Half Life 2: Episode 3.... 2 years out? on: October 14, 2008, 05:49:52 PM
Yeah 2010 is quite a bummer. I wonder what in the world takes them so long. They have the engine. They must have the over all story arc if not the script. So you have to buld and polish levels. granted when released these games are pretty ideal. Oh well, we have other stuff to play in the meantime.

I'm a one game at a time kinda guy, but if I'm in the middle of a game when this comes out, I'm dropping that and starting this. Unless it overlaps with Fallout 3 and F3 really has a hold on me.

That seems an unlikely scenario since Fallout 3 is pretty much locked in as a late October release while Dragon Age is 1Q 2009 date with typical Bioware history caveats.

 icon_wink

Well see, the reason I said that is because I have several things between now and F3. I actualy have a couple of old games at a good gogamer sale, by that time FC2 should be out. Hinterland will be in there someplace. Stalker clear sky, Rise of Flight-A WW1 flight sim, may make december, and I think there might be a couple I am forgetting. Plus F3 is a looks like a huge game that will take me some time to get through-I'm not the fastest player in the world. But you are also correct. With Bioware, Q1 2009 is just a possibility and who knows when the game gets here. I wish I had it now, I know that.

Pretty great looking videos. Sound is good as well. Picked up a couple of annoying things. Combat phrases are going to get old quickly. As in "right in the face" Which I heard 3 ti-4 times just in the clip. And "I need healing".  These are just quibbles though. Day 1 purchase for me. I'm a one game at a time kinda guy, but if I'm in the middle of a game when this comes out, I'm dropping that and starting this. Unless it overlaps with Fallout 3 and F3 really has a hold on me.

Recommended requirements:  All you got...

Recommended requirements:  If you have to ask...

I'll be shocked if it is playable on anything less than a Core 2 Duo and 8800GT.

Why would you say that when the listed spec clearly say something different? In the article that posted the specs they say they worked hard to optimize it so as many people as possible could play it. CeeKay brings up a great point though. Recommended spec should come with a given rez. Not that you would have to list specs for every rez, just pick one in the middle. People who are gamers can figure out the rest. The tough thing would be which rez to pick. Does Valve ask people what rez they play at along with everything else they ask? I have no idea what the "avg" rez would be. I know until a month ago I had a 4 yr old rig and I was playing a ton of games at 1024. some people said they would "never" play that low. Made me feel they thought it was "wire frame" or something Roll Eyes
I would guess it would be fluid at 1280X1024 but what the heck do I know.
712  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mass Effect..wheres that patch? on: July 25, 2008, 04:58:50 PM
That's interesting Daehawk. Right near the end I had a crash to desktop. Only issue I had with the entire game. I finally beat it. After about 10 tries I bumped the difficulty down to casual. Still took me about 10 tries. I did figure out a system that probably would have worked on normal but by then, what's the point. I thought the game was a tad short but that's only because I was enjoying it so much. So now I'm gameless. I have a couple oldies I missed coming from gogamer but that's with dirt cheap shipping so it will take a few more days. The shakes are starting.
713  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mass Effect..wheres that patch? on: July 25, 2008, 03:06:47 AM
Yeah, I know what I have to do. And I'm level 50 myself. But I'm just not great and the strafe and dodge stuff, so it's gonna take me several tries. Sigh....
714  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mass Effect..wheres that patch? on: July 25, 2008, 12:45:05 AM
Okay I have to take some marks off. I'm at what I believe to be the final boss battle. it's way tough and appears to consist of multiple stages with no way to save in between. Looks like many repeats. God I hate when devs do this.

Do they tell you how many quick saves you have used? I just pump F6 like a monkey. I'm getting near the end( I think) still having fun. I have done every side mission given but I don't think I have been to all the clusters. Any reason to go to them unasked? I will be bummed when this game is over.
717  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mass Effect..wheres that patch? on: July 21, 2008, 03:02:50 PM
I'm pretty far into the game. Not sure what level but I stopped getting 2 skill points per level and only get one. Anyway, outside of giving my team strong weapons that I find I don't manage them at all. So far I have done fine on normal setting. My character is pretty strong and can take care of just about everything as long as my sidekicks occupy the bad guys attention from time to time. Still my game of the year. Some people have complained the side missions are "samey" but I am enjoying them all.
718  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Farcry 2 thread on: July 20, 2008, 03:23:03 AM
I hope it winds up like neither. People hated the mutagens in Far Cry just as much as the Aliens in Crysis. Ubisoft has promised no mutagens or aliens. The guy at Tom's hardware played FC2 on a 360 at E3 and was underwhelmed. Still looks great to me.
719  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Farcry 2 thread on: July 19, 2008, 04:32:48 PM
Ummm Wow. It cracks me up that some people in other threads are dismissing this as a simple Far Cry sequel. I think only the name has anything to do with the origonal. This looks like a blast to play and is #1 on my list for fall.
