I've not read this whole thread so maybe it was explained in it..don't really care...but I bought the game in the store..I have the DVD disc..yet when I go to install it is installing through STEAM and is downloading it..WTF?? This will take a bit. I have the dvd..wth.

They use steam for the DRM. it's on the box but not that obvious.  You have to have steam and steam authenticates your copy every time you start the game. Not sure if there is an offline mode or not. I wonder if this method has been cracked. Probably because afaik there is no foolproof drm.

Will this work on Vista 64 bit? Amazon has it for $10.84. I had a lot of interest in this when it was released but all the reported bugs scared me off.
604  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: March 22, 2010, 02:41:51 PM
I don't know, I'm a bit underwhelmed so far. Stalker had much more atmosphere imho. I still kinda feel like a visitor watching stuff. However, I'm still early and finaly got to the first section where I'm by myself-on the surface. Hoping it grows on me. I don't dislike it, I'm just not as into it as I thought I would be.

Well that was a bit of cold water in the face icon_cry. Okay, time to wait for some reviews.

Oh Yeah baby! This is so Day one. I had a alot of fun with Desciples 2 gold and played it for a long time.
607  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: March 17, 2010, 02:40:59 PM
Crap! gogamer cancelled my preorder. Oh wait, that turns out to be good. How the hell do they have a preorder sale for $42.95 and then when the game hits the street it goes on sale for $35.42. That's nuts. Plus, I wanted to get Dead Space and now I can on the same order. No problem getting the imported edition of Dead Space, is there? In this case having my updated cc not matching the exp date they have on file will save me 7 bucks but I will have to wait a day longer. Please keep your reports on Metro coming and I will live vicareously until the mailman comes.

$60 for me = no buy. I'd be willing to try and live with the DRM. However, although I enjoyed the first game, I never got past the 9th mission(I think) where they send dozens of guards after you and you have to have the twitch skillz to kill them all icon_cry
610  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: March 10, 2010, 09:35:00 PM
Did they ever fix the Shale bug? Where the game decided to stop recognising all your DLC? I finished the game and never went back largely because of that issue.
611  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: March 05, 2010, 09:46:47 PM
I've been having a lot of fun with the latest STALKER game, so picking this up is a no brainer.

DRM or no, I'm not up for $60 a game.

Might want to start getting used to the idea as it seems some brand new AAA titles on the PC are launching at that price now a days.  Once we get conditioned to it it will be the norm.  At least PC games go on sale and drop in price fairly quickly.  Almost all consloe games laucnh at that price and see mto stay there for quite awhile.  At  les the good ones anyhow and anything with Call of Duty in the title.  Hell iwaited for price drop on COD:WAW for PC for what seemed like a year.

Well then this is apparently the price point that will break me. Outside of the rare occasional game that really hits my sweet spot I will just wait for the price drop. Once I get in the cycle there will be a steady flow of cheaper stuff that I haven't played yet. I never really liked $49.95 and would usually wait for those to drop as well.
613  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Ubisoft unveils new copy protection system: on: March 03, 2010, 03:58:23 PM
Well-cracked without saves is not exactly cracked. Most people won't play it straight through or leave it active on their rig til they finish. At least I don't think enough would to affect opening month sales. But I could easily be wrong.

Okay, since I'm a forum member they sent me a link. Very cool. Still, no hint of any game play or release date.
616  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: February 19, 2010, 05:27:37 PM
I may still get it, but unfortunately it is not save anywhere but checkpoint driven.Player may have to repeat hard areas a few times.
617  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Project Offset new video on: February 19, 2010, 05:24:26 PM
Darn, broken link. They have been working on this game for over 5 years and have started over twice I think, once for sure. As far as I know they have never even said what the game is about. I will be interested when/if it ever see's the light of day.
618  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Is Far Cry considered a hard game? on: February 19, 2010, 04:49:57 PM
Funny, I first thought of FC2 and I was thinkling,no, not too tough. Far Cry on the other hand, was rather hard for me. I did die and reload a lot. Then, when it takes a twist 2/3rds or so into the game, it gets really hard. Some people found the last big set piece darn near impossible. I must have gotten lucky because I got through it okay.

Damn you CeeKay! This game is right in my wheelhouse and now I have to wait a year or so to play it. Seriously, nice find. I guess The Witcher was kind of 3rd person middle ages but outside of that not a lot out there. Looks like a lot of fun.

Try checking some of your regular places where you sell stuff, or if you use containers either in Soldiers Peak or modded ones in the camp (which is pretty dangerous IMO)

nope, I definitely did not sell it or store it someplace since it was Stens main weapon (you cannot sell or store something that is equipped anyways) so I just used the Star Fang script, the rune script (to replace the 3 that were in the sword) and the enchantment script to get things back to normal.

Yeah it's a known bug. All of a sudden the game forgets the DLC stuff you did. I had Wardens Keep disappear from the map and then the guy that gives you the quest showed up with the quest again at my campsite. Also I could no longer talk to Shale as well. Rather irritating and still no official fix on the horizon.
621  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: December 25, 2009, 06:50:39 PM
I finished this yesterday. Not sure how I feel about it. I mean it was fun, but I guess I just keep getting "epic" thrown at me and I don't think it's that at all. Here's my +'s and -'s for what ever it's worth.
Spoiler for Hiden:
decent story and it's nice to see how some of your choices affected things. Cool to level up and get access to new powers, get strong enough to beat the revenants and things like that-although I have a caveat.  decent interface. Love the sound and music in the game. Okay, i did like the game and I am not really pickey, the object is just to have fun, but for some reason my -'s are longer. I played 80+ hrs and really feel like I did very little. 4 areas. No way is this an explore game. No grand vistas or creepy dungeons. Just little boxy rooms to fight in. Yes you make big decisions that change some things, but most of those are crammed in at the end. Not all, but most. Combat its's self. Even with pause, things happen so fast it's hard to appriciate your guys individual actions and powers. No way is this a loot game either. Very few cool weapons armor or runes to find. evrything I used I found by half way through or later. Buggy game for me. I got the Shale bug. Flemmith never showed up for me to do Morigans quest, even though I got the quest. And while not a bug, the fact that marking a quest as active put markers on your map for some quests but nothing for others was just annoying.  So I do really want to find out what the hell Morrigan wanted that baby for I'm not chomping at the bit for it to come out.
622  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 'Call of Pripyat' on: December 14, 2009, 10:15:02 PM
But is the ending.IE the last 15% of the game good or do we get another crappy ending? I loved the first two games, the creepy underground area of the first one more so, but both endings were disappointing, as has been well noted. Clear Sky after the hospital was pretty useless. I wish they would stop doing that. They do so much a great deal better than any body else.
623  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age Game Issues Thread on: December 07, 2009, 08:41:42 PM
So we aren't getting a Shale fix any time soon? Also part of the same problem where it decides after a while to stop recognozing wardens keep and gives you the quest again. The silence from EA/Bioware is deafening.
624  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Silent Hunter 5 on: December 05, 2009, 04:58:42 PM
Cool. I guess water is easier to do than fire. The fire looks kinda lame to me. Not that I care, just saying. Can't wait for this as SH3 cannot run on Vista 64 due to the old copy protection.
625  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age Game Issues Thread on: November 28, 2009, 02:27:59 PM
I got the Shale bug yesterday icon_frown Appparently no fix is available except going back to an earlier save and I just use quick save. Seems like wardens keep has reset as well. I enjoy Shale as a tank-and his quips- so I hope I don't miss too much not being able to talk to him.

Really wish I had a beefier PC as I ended up dialing graphics to low and textures to medium to make this the most playable it could be. The game just flat out doesn't look that great on those settings.

That's okay it doesn't look that great maxed out either. Tongue
Not that I'm not enjoying the game-I am. It just lloks kind of vanilla and washed out to me. And I played Risen right before it which I thought looked fantastic. Different type of game so not fair to compare-it's just the last one I played.

A question about Sten
Spoiler for Hiden:
Do you have to intimidate the reverend mother to get him freed? I tried every other dialog trick I could think of and kept going back to Sten to see if he would give me any info to work with. I did all the side quests and cleared the road in the town hoping the reverend mother would look more faverably on me. Nope. So I held my nose and demanded the key. I got it but felt bad doing it.
Spoiler for Hiden:
I got a (Persuade)(Lie) option where I told the Reverand Mother that I was going to take him into custody to return in to Quanari.
Spoiler for Hiden:
I'm pretty sure I got him without lying or intimidating as I've yet to intimidate a "good guy". Damned if I can remember the details, it's been about 20 hours of playtime since then.

I did it simply enough (assuming I remembered right):

Spoiler for Hiden:
I basically said that as a Grey Warder (I told her I was one even though there were people in town looking for Warders because we were 'evil') I requested his assistance in the battles ahead. She handed him right over.
That didn't work at all for me.
Spoiler for Hiden:
I told her right off I was Grey warden and she said she couldn't take a chance on helping me since Grey Wardens were on the wanted list.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds at least like there was nothing obvious was missed. Oh well, what's done is done. I'm sure it's not the last time I will say that in this game.

And most people on this board have way more time to play than I do. It allways cracks me up when I'm still in the opening stages and start reading "Finished!" posts. I'm such a plodder.

I respectfully disagree with the main points of that Eurogamer review. I think DA has a great deal of soul and heart and the game sucked me in pretty fast. Can't say if normal is too hard yet. I have had to repeat some fights, not many but it's early yet. I haven't tried easy. I will say the game is not for people who love exploring in these games as their favorite thing. It's laid out not completely but mostly pretty linear. But I can't see how you can say this game has no soul.

It's not in-game (this was my mistake, too).  You have to go to your Windows sound setup and configure the speakers from there.

Thank you! can't wait to get home and do this tonight. Why the heck isn't the option in game? I don't think it was in game in Risen either.

If this works with Vista 64 that would be way cool. This is one of the the very few games ever that I got completely stuck in and had to give up. Can't even begin to remember where and why that was. Then over the years I tossed my copy. Duh! Since then I've found many cites where people call it one of the best games ever. I would like to get a chance to try again.
634  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: October 27, 2009, 08:25:21 PM
I asked this on QT3 and got ignored. Wardens Keep is to be downloaded the day the game is released. Anybody wondering if the servers are going to get clogged up? Or is the DLC already on the disk and we just have to unlock it? I want to fire up this puppy as soon as I get it wioth everything in place. I don't really want to spend 2-3 hrs trying to hook up to a server.
635  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age: Where to buy? on: October 23, 2009, 09:03:48 PM
I wonder if steam will let people preload this. I already have a CE preorder at gamestop so it doesn't matter to me but I wonder how long it will take to pull this down from steam. I purchased Risen that way and they started the download about 6-7 hrs late with no explination. I would worry about servers getting flooded as well because DA is sure to be a lot more popular than Risen. Today Steam started preloads for Borderlands so maybe they will.
636  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: October 21, 2009, 03:39:08 PM

So, anyone got a short synopsis of what the point is in this game?  Are we eventually supposed to save the land from some Dragon or evil whoever?  Or is it more just a character-building rpg where the crux is to roam around and adventure here and there and build a badass character?

Just hoping it is not another World of Warcraft type of thing.  Oh, and I did not play through Baldur's Gate. Got bored about an hour in.

The videos I watched had some nice character interaction with npc's, but that is about all I could tell from them.

There is a Dark swarm overtaking the land and you join up with the grey wardens and try to defeat it. I think that is pretty much all that is known so far. Which is great because I don't want to know spoilers anyway. Did you just play BG1 or was it BG2 that bored you. BG1 was kinda vanilla but Bioware rpg's are pretty similar in play and if you didn't care for those you probably wouldn't be crazy about Dragon Age either.

Cool. I have to stop reading stuff. Still in Chapter one. I did all of the swamp qusts without reading any tips. I just got stuck on a couple small things in Harbor town and in trying to get unstuck discovered I had more to do with Patty. Then I got worried I had missed something.
Really enjoying the game. it's exciting trying to explore in a driving thunderstorm when sudden death may lurk around any corner. I'm enjoying all the quests as well. Can't believe some people have finished the game already.
639  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Risen from Pirhana Bytes on: October 13, 2009, 05:23:55 PM
A quest question.
Spoiler for Hiden:
I have gotten Patty outside harbor town and I know there is a further quest line with her but I haven't triggered been able to trigger it yet. Is it chapter dependent? I heard you get it from the Don's area. Is it from Finnegan? I taalked to him but nothing triggered.
640  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Risen from Pirhana Bytes on: October 07, 2009, 04:25:28 PM
Risen is 4th on the Steam best sellers list and first on Direct to Drive. I really hope it does great because I want PB to keep making games.
