601  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age: Where to buy? on: October 23, 2009, 09:03:48 PM
I wonder if steam will let people preload this. I already have a CE preorder at gamestop so it doesn't matter to me but I wonder how long it will take to pull this down from steam. I purchased Risen that way and they started the download about 6-7 hrs late with no explination. I would worry about servers getting flooded as well because DA is sure to be a lot more popular than Risen. Today Steam started preloads for Borderlands so maybe they will.

I have heard on QT3 that the Eurogamer review has some spoilers in it. Just a friendly warning.

So, anyone got a short synopsis of what the point is in this game?  Are we eventually supposed to save the land from some Dragon or evil whoever?  Or is it more just a character-building rpg where the crux is to roam around and adventure here and there and build a badass character?

Just hoping it is not another World of Warcraft type of thing.  Oh, and I did not play through Baldur's Gate. Got bored about an hour in.

The videos I watched had some nice character interaction with npc's, but that is about all I could tell from them.

There is a Dark swarm overtaking the land and you join up with the grey wardens and try to defeat it. I think that is pretty much all that is known so far. Which is great because I don't want to know spoilers anyway. Did you just play BG1 or was it BG2 that bored you. BG1 was kinda vanilla but Bioware rpg's are pretty similar in play and if you didn't care for those you probably wouldn't be crazy about Dragon Age either.

Cool. I have to stop reading stuff. Still in Chapter one. I did all of the swamp qusts without reading any tips. I just got stuck on a couple small things in Harbor town and in trying to get unstuck discovered I had more to do with Patty. Then I got worried I had missed something.
Really enjoying the game. it's exciting trying to explore in a driving thunderstorm when sudden death may lurk around any corner. I'm enjoying all the quests as well. Can't believe some people have finished the game already.
605  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Risen from Pirhana Bytes on: October 13, 2009, 05:23:55 PM
A quest question.
Spoiler for Hiden:
I have gotten Patty outside harbor town and I know there is a further quest line with her but I haven't triggered been able to trigger it yet. Is it chapter dependent? I heard you get it from the Don's area. Is it from Finnegan? I taalked to him but nothing triggered.
606  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Risen from Pirhana Bytes on: October 07, 2009, 04:25:28 PM
Risen is 4th on the Steam best sellers list and first on Direct to Drive. I really hope it does great because I want PB to keep making games.

I ran into a graphic glitch last night where that guy had no head.  it was bizarre, but when I alt tabbed to get FRAPS up and running it came back.
[/quote]

I had this glitch on a character in Harbor town. Just eyeballs and teeth. I was wondering for a second if he was a specter or something but figured it was a glitch pretty fast. It returned to normal on my next reload.

This game is kicking my ass in the begining. The quests are anything but easy and I'm to weak and unskilled to use brute force. Good old PB. This is just the way I like it. I will be glad to get the hell out of Harbor town though.
608  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: October 03, 2009, 03:19:16 PM
Knightshade those are very promising words. Even if I wind up not thinking it's the best RPG ever It still sounds like a way better than average game. It is interesting that people who have just seen the trailors and promo stuff are doubtful but anyone who has gotten to play it for a decent amout of time come away quite impressed.
609  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Silent Hunter 3 on: October 02, 2009, 09:30:11 PM
Booner fwiw I heard SH4 took a large astep back in the series. They managed to lose a ton of atmosphere and dumbed some stuff down. Kronovan, I played the GWX full package on a core 2 duo 3gig and a 800gt and 2 gig ram and it ran smooth. Not that demanding in terms of todays hardware.
610  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Silent Hunter 3 on: October 02, 2009, 06:55:10 PM
This is a great game. Do yourself a favor and get the GWX mod package as well as sub commander. Really enhances the fun. I'm stuck because I have the origonal SH3 with Starforce and it plain will not work with Vista64. So I am waiting paitently for SHV in March.

A couple of things: The 360 port was done by an outside company and they did a pretty poor job that the PB crew is very unhappy about. The Eurogamer review has been dissected pretty well on QT3 and has so many proven inaccuracies that it seems pretty well useless.

613  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Risen from Pirhana Bytes on: September 26, 2009, 10:48:31 PM
Yup, they do have stores here in Illinois. I orderd from steam. 5 bucks off and no tax, plus I should get it on day one, unless a million people are doing the same thing. Tongue
614  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Risen from Pirhana Bytes on: September 26, 2009, 03:38:38 PM
Yes Gamestop preorder for 39.99 is a sale price. Of course then you don't get to play it on release day because it only ships on the second. I think for ten bucks off I can wait a few days to play it. The reviews make it sound just like Gothic 1 and 2, and none of them have mentioned bugs. I am so all over this.

So gamestop charges tax for internet orders now? icon_cry Between that and any shipping increase over the minimum means I'm not saving much even with the sale. I think I will go B&M and be washing up on that island Friday night.

DX10 vs DX11 comparisons.  maybe it's too early in the morning, but the only difference I can see is the DX11 ones look a bit brighter.
I could barely see any difference in 9 vs 10 except for some of the large explosions, and I can't see a difference here at all. Certainly no need to get a new card.
616  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 'Call of Pripyat' on: September 23, 2009, 04:42:01 PM
Maybe they are redoing the ending icon_confused. Naw, because the Russian version seems to be not delayed. I would be bummed about this but I have Risen and Dragon Age coming out so I am game set for a while.
617  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 'Call of Pripyat' on: September 21, 2009, 09:32:41 PM

Looks like they really improved the graphics, wasn't expecting that.

that they seem to be really good at.  Clear Sky was much better graphicswise than the first game, and they bring it up a notch again this time.

of course the real question is, while making it prettier, did they do a better job optimizing it this time....

(oh, and make the ending level(s) not suck.  they have yet to stick the landing on this IMO)
I guess I need to pick up a video card faster than my 8800gt to get good rates in Clear Skies. It seems to chug something fierce. I can only fear what this new one will do.

What rez are you trying to play at? I played CS on my 8800gt cranked with no issues. Can't remember for sure what I played at but I think it was 1880x1050. If not it was 1280. I hope they haven't boosted it to much. Optimisers these guys are not.

ding!  GOLDEN!  watching that playthrough got me a bit more excited.

You beat me to it! October 2nd! Although I never had any of the bugs that plagued the first three games it will be interesting to see if their supposed months of squashing will produce a cleaner release. Kudos to them for not holding up the pc release for the 360. I kinda wish Bioware had done that but if they had I would have been finished with DA and now I still have it to look forward to.
620  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 'Call of Pripyat' on: September 12, 2009, 04:34:46 PM
This trailer shows whats so great about these games. Best atmosphere of any game ever, imho. I guess there has been a ton of bugs. Although I played Clear Sky fully patched late after it came out, I played the first one through from day one with no problems. They had terrible endings to the first two. If they fix that, this could be up there with the greatest games ever.

id thumbs up from me, but then I love rpgs. I finished it and enjoyed it all the way through. They did do the common mistake of making the end a slog through one difficult foe after another but it wasn't as over the top difficult as some.

Yeah, I loved MM6, it was the first RPG games I ever played and opened the door to me for many great RPGs(and some not so good ones) since.

Making me feel old here-which I am. MM1 was the first RPG game I ever played and hooked me on computer gaming forever.

So people are going to know a lot about all the origin stories before the game comes out? Not for me, I like to discover this stuff in the game.G

I shall play a goodie goodie human of some type then turn right around and replay it as an evil dwarf..or maybe elf.

It's funny, but I'm one of those who just can't be evil in these games. Maybe I should try again in this one.
625  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: August 26, 2009, 09:27:04 PM
Okay, 720 hrs of gameplay then.

Looks kinda interesting. I love the romantic ideal of pirates but I have never tried a pirate game. They all have seemed kinda flawed so far.
627  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: August 26, 2009, 06:02:07 PM
How many origin stories are there? Like 7 or 8? So there is 900 hrs in this beast if you play through everybody? That would be pretty cool although I would never do them all. I spent about 120 hrs on Fallout 3 so I can believe this.
628  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: August 25, 2009, 08:03:56 PM
I stopped watching any of these previews as I have preordered the game and no longer want any spoilers. It does seem like I may be able to play through this more than once which will be the first time I have ever done that.

No save anywhere =epic fail for me. Unless everything else about the game is really compelling. This isn't.

Looking forward to this even though imho they are 0-2 on endings. If this is more like the first game with a real ending it will be great.
632  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Risen from Pirhana Bytes on: August 10, 2009, 05:00:47 PM
That's not going to help me much as my system is not near that. The one interesting thing was that rez didn't effect frame rate much. I'm sure I'll be able to run this. Looking way forward to it especially since Dragon Age just got pushed back 2 weeks. And the screen shots look like a typical gothic game. I have really liked all 3 of these so far. Don't see how it can miss.
633  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: August 08, 2009, 04:18:47 PM
2 weeks will not bother me in the least. Besides, Risen is out Oct 2nd and I know that will keep me occupied.
634  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Risen from Pirhana Bytes on: July 31, 2009, 05:12:29 PM
Interesting. Kinda modest specs. Weren't the first two games system pushers? I think this is a day one purchase for me.

637  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: July 16, 2009, 08:01:01 PM
Yeah it pisses me off as well. I bought the CE for Oblivion but never looked at the bonus disk. I just couldn't wait to start playing and then when I finished the game I was no longer interested.  However, I really want the quest, cloth map-god I love cloth maps, and the extra healing ring. I think I'm going to have to do this. I do commend them for coming up with decent CE content. I hate the fact that some of it is in game stuff.
638  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Chrome Engine 4 on: July 14, 2009, 06:24:40 PM
That looked very cool. Yet in the CoJ Bound in Blood threat they kept complaining that the games has you always running forward and really discourages exploration. Seems like a waste to me. To me, the Gothic worlds have always looked kinda like clip.
639  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: July 11, 2009, 01:50:24 PM
I don't know. Choice is always better. Suppose by chance you lose the chance to play a character that you really wanted. It would nice to be able to be able to change your mind. I can't see them doing this for every character, just some really special/unique ones. My point was that hands on sounded more encouraging for the game than a lot of other stuff that has come out recently.

A hands on review that sounds pretty cool. I really like the part where a character that could have joined your party and you wind up picking a fight and killing them instead. In this case you got shown a small cut scene showing you what you missed out on and how they could have helped you.
